Please use painter's tape, you did good for freehand but nothing will beat the crispness of taping out details.

Nids, building can be a pain, and painting takes a while, but dang if they aren’t satisfying to paint, and they work so well with contrast to.
Yeah its a pretty intimidating project to undertake! With all their nooks and crannies they really do showcase how cool the contrast paints are
Models like these make me wanna play tyranids, then I remember that they are the second most expensive faction next to the guard, and have not gotten a model in a decade or rwo
Yeah my two main factions are guard and Tyranids.... It’s a rough life unless you buy stuff second hand from eBay or marketplace. But once they’re all painted and formed up it’s so worth it

For now tho i think Tyranids is actually quite eco, if your not a competitive player half the leviathan box + this year battleforce and you already have a sizable army

I am gonna be honest, I never knew you had to paint the war hammer tabletop figures. I just assumed they were already painted. Oh well, this seems like a good way to pass the time
You technically don’t have to paint them.... but that’s half the fun! It’s very therapeutic!
@@goodbigbadboy yeah, I am saving to get some figures. But I don’t know which faction I want to collect. I like the tyranids but the orks are also cool.
I plan on starting some orks soon! Be sure to pick a faction you absolutely love. It really helps to keep you inspired to paint everything!

What do you use for primer? I'm thinking I'll pick up a start collecting tyranids to give this color scheme a shot.
It’s citadel wraith bone! It’s a little pricey but it works well with the contrast paints. I think any off white primer would work though
Can't remember the last time I saw a strawberry that was white, but I take your word for it
I just wanna say thanks so much. This popped up out nowhere as Im getting into painting my first warhammer figures(just waiting for my primers to arrive), and I've been really interested in getting good results with contrast paints.
This really makes me wonder what I could achieve with some tyranid models and some creativity on my own. I wanna try deep red/exoskeleton and claws with boney white armour plating. Best part of 40k Canon being so inconsistent is how much room there is for creativity!

Looks great for a quick scheme. Just a suggestion. A light dry brush on the dark purple parts with a lighter purple would really make it pop. It’s kinda a flat purple without the edges getting highlighted
The Gene Stealers are my favorite Tyranid, my dad played Space Hulk a lot when I was a kid and I am surprised those things never gave me nightmares XD
Those are up next on my hobby desk! I plan on painting them in their classic blue and purple

I thought about leaving it that way but I’d already painted over 100 others with purple armor so I just kept going lol

It’s very different now, and has a lower barrier for entry since they now have ways to play with just one box of minis! I recommend checking it out again

My dad used to paint miniatures and sell them on E-Bay when I was a child. He let me paint a few and said he would sell them.
I was over at his house one day, his girlfriend was at work and he showed me his secret collection of the minis I had painted as a kid in his drawer. 'Parrently I was important enough to him to keep memories of.
