    Cool video Damo, such a teaser for the full trip video. Did you put any airbags in the rear springs to stop it sagging with your trailer weight? I just picked up our new camper trailer and it dropped the rear a shit load. I was thinking I might need some airbags.

    • @RoundTheFire
      @RoundTheFire  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G'Day Nath, No I haven't added bags to mine...from what I can work out its not really an option to bag the Raptors, due to the coil over shocks. What you can do for the Raptor is change the actual spring itself (works out a fair bit cheaper than bags too i think) My camper has a fairly low ball weight, but it still makes a big difference. Changing the spring rate is the next thing on my to do list.

I was surprised it got stuck until I saw the tyre pressure. That will get you every time. If you ever do any trips to w.a let me know i'm out in one place or another as often as I can be. I've got a little video i made up last year of some dunes on my channel. I'm interested in knowing what media you use for your recording like your drone and camera and stuff. I'd also be interested in your camping setup and gear you reccomend too if your intersted in making something like that. I did Perth to Darwin in 16 days last year but as it was just me and the other half I didn't need a trailer but now i'm looking into one. Subscribed today looking forward to more content

    Was it bc of the trailer? I never seen a Raptor get stuck in sand, Ive see them go through alot worse. Im assuming the drag and tongue weight has something to do with it. Was this expected of any truck in this area or is this a flaw int he Raptor? Im genuinely asking and curious. I own a 3.2l Everest 4x4 and that thing has climbed out of some really sketchy places.

    • @RoundTheFire
      @RoundTheFire  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One of the best things to have in any off-road truck is a good air pump or simply a Neutrogen filled bottle.
    Then you can drop the air pressure and then add air again depending on the conditions.
    Driving in sand is like driving in snow. If you deflate the tires, you both can traction and spread the weight of the vehicle over a larger conntact area ( = softer footprint of each wheel. If that makes scene )
    One of the issues with modern trucks is the size of there front brakes. So now you can't use smaller then 17" wheels instead of like 15" back in the day. So in return you have to accept lower profile tires that don't deflate as well (or as useful ) as the bigger profile tires. Bigger profile is always better when doing real off roading. Not Raptor rallying.
    I personally drive my Trooper that has 32" tire ( BF all terrain ) on a 15"wheel. With tire pressure between 12-15psi as standard everytime I drive off- road. ( also to causion the ride, because it's front suspension is not good dealing rough washboard like roads.)
    And if I have to deal with snow or soft sand I take it down to between 3-10 psi. The true magic is between 3-5 psi.

    • @RoundTheFire

    • @RoundTheFire
      @RoundTheFire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Antenna is a screw in on a fixed mount. It's short and flexible enough that you can bend it to sit flush under the roof rack if you need. Ive gone the opposite way and bent it to feed up and through the roof rack.

    Hey mate im assuming by the look of the tyres you didnt let down much or any tyre pressure ?? Should of gotten through that alot easier but then again hard to judge the sand in video. Dry soft sand can be a bloody nightmare.
    Im from w.a so had my fair share of it. Im looking to upgrade and was gonna get a y62 v8 patrol for power to pull a small off road camoer trailer just abit bigger than the one u got on. But was hoping with a few mods like exhaust intercooler egr delte airbox exhaust and dyno tune i could get a raptor and save a bunch in fuel economy
    Cant decide

    • @RoundTheFire
      @RoundTheFire  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right mate, I think from memory I was at about 22-24PSi could have gone way lower but it was only a very short section of sand on what was otherwise a solid stretch of track. Momentum was the key, I was only walking it through...you will definitely be able to tune up the Y62 for more pulling power than the Raptor and the Patrol will 💯% give you more cabin room depending on the size of your family needs? I’m very happy with the Raptor, my situation required me to transition from a wagon to a Ute because of my dog. Hard decision 🤔 If cabin space and bigger tow is needed Patrol is definitely the way to go. If you travel fairly light (under 5.5T combo) then have a good think about the Raptor 👍🏻

      I normally start at 18...by this stage we were about day 8 or 9 of the trip and I was getting a bit lazy to adjust the tyre pressure. If you are only pulling about a ton then no dramas with the Raptor. My trailer is 1.5T all I’ve done is add a DP chip to bump it up to 185Kw. Easily pulls along at 130ks sitting on 1600rpm using 13.5L/100, still plenty left to overtake road trains without a run at it.

      It would not be hard for Ford to add the power from the factory, but I’m sure they have their reasons?? 🤔 By adding a chip to your engine you will most likely void your warranty for the engine and drive line.
