    長刀(なぎなた)研
    They are designed for Japanese and Chinese writing. Such nib can make Chinese characters very beautiful and a lot more like those written with brush pens.

    Loved the naginata demo at the end. These nibs take some study and practice but they certainly have a lot of fascination. Thanks for the review.

    Love the ending. I feel like this is just screaming for a shootout between the naginata togi and the zoom nib.

    Really enjoyed the pole arm display at the end. By the way, please consider another desk review. You did one some time ago and it was very interesting.

    Love this review. The Naginata Togi nib is intriguing, lots of wonderful variation. But the best part of the video is the last part. Your skills are impressive! Is that an actual naginata? Have a great weekend!

    Great review. The nib is frankly very left handed friendly. I went with a broad and it does use up the ink quickly.

      +Robert Maguire It shouldn't be... Times are changing, but Japanese is a language that was designed to be written with your right hand.

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +thebigitchy What? There's no such thing as a language designed to be written with the right hand. In the first place language isn't "designed", but just evolves through times to changing conventions of writing. The major difference between lefties and right handers is comfort when using certain styles of notebooks, smudging issues, writing angle, arm positioning and a couple of other things. Where did you get the idea that languages were "designed" for right handers? Btw, I understand and practice both Chinese and Japanese which extensively uses similar writing systems of kanji.

      I don't speak or write Japonese.....maybe there is??????!

    • @dtaggartofRTD
      @dtaggartofRTD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Maguire Japanese is often written top to bottom right to left. As a result it would work fairly well in either hand. The meaning of the kanji are often identical between the two languages. The Japanese use it for clarity since the spoken language is prone to homophones. some words may have more than a dozen.Written Japanese is quite different from Written Chinese. To tell the difference look for the two sets of Japanese kana that mark subjects and grammar.

    ooh so fancy! that nib is so fancy!!! haha, another great review Stephen, the nib looks really juicy when you wrote the writing sample, do you think the ink made the writing look more juicy than the nib is? or did the nib put down that much ink? loved the ending clip!! you seemed to swing that blade pretty well for a amateur, Jude

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is definitely possible that the ink influenced the pen's wetness.

    Hi buddy, I'm having a bit of trouble finding the 1911 Large Naginata. However I do find a Sailor 1911 EXECUTIVE Naginata. Would them be one and the same? I have the 1911 Classic and looking for a Large version with broad (our Medium) nib.
    Lovely review as usual.

      I have never seen a 1911 Executive, so I don't know, sorry.

    This nib is best used to write chinese and japanese caligraphy because of those beautiful corners it creates

  • @JohnAceti

    Steven - at normal writing angles what would you say is the line width equivalent to (Japanese fine, medium or bold)?

    • @billcrabtree8700
      @billcrabtree8700 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it's a Japanese broad at least at a 45 degree angle. Amazing pen, one of my favorites. Slightly toothy feel, quite wet.

      Yes, Japanese M-B.

    I'm a choral music fan so I enjoy your intro, but I've watched enough of your videos that I sometimes wake up with the chant in my head. Far better that than most pop music. : ) Ignore the dingbats.
    This nib might be a good choice for those which the Zoom may be a bit excessive and I like that the Naginata Togi offers some spring. Sadly many of us don't have the opportunity to try out specialty nibs outside of pen shows and experimentation by purchase isn't great for the budget.
    I've yet to buy a Sailor pen but am intrigued by the #9 nib on the Sailor King of Pen as demonstrated in Dan Smith's video review, yet its' size may be an issue for those of us with smaller hands. Might you recommend a Sailor nib with similar characteristics in a smaller pen such as this one if such exists? Thank you.

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there is the Zoom nib, which does something very similar and isn't that bad: I can definitely use that fir everyday writing. I'm also selling mine on a 1911, so if you're interested in picking one up, do contact me ("special price for you") :-).
