I do have the ProGear Realo. Love it. Great writer; great that the window is in view when the pen is capped; fabulous nib. And, the size makes it a wonderful pocket pen . . . for safe work situations. I did get mine from Japan, and did save enough for buckets of ink. If you'll indulge the hyperbole. I haven't regretted getting the medium nib.

Like your pen reviews. However, as a "tea snob" I would like to know why you seem to like tea in tea-bags? Dont you like single origin black teas? Or Rooiboos? or good quality flovored teas like Earl Gray tea? Just asking. BTW, I have 4 of these Sailor 1911 Realos!!! It is a wonderful pen, a bit expensive, but a great pen. Thank you.
Late comment. Another way of seeing this upstroke feature is that ascenders are entry lines for the most part and if they ghost a bit that enhances the descenders. Write a capitol S and notice that the letter shape is in the descender and it looks good to my eye if the leading line is weak. For this to work visually you need to put the wiggle in the S body. I have a Realo, a Pro Gear. Nice pen, great nib.
I have my 1911 EF inked up with Sailor Nioi-Sumire so even though the script is quite fine, the vividness of the ink color makes a huge difference. Try the Realo with something like Sailor Shigure or Iroshizuku Yama-Budo.

I'm not a massive fan of Black and gold pens , however i do like the way they have framed the ink window, but the pen is really not my cup of tea and too much money really. It looks extremely fine as you mentioned. Thanks Kerry nice review as always

What bothers me about Sailor’s 21 kt nibs, is how terribly stiff they are, compared with other gold nibs. Second, and most importantly, you are a classy, smart AND beautiful woman! I believe the tines are just a bit too close together so on the upstroke they get pushed together a bit, choking the flow. My Sailor F, B, NM, and MS didn't have this issue but I've had other pens that did and I fixed them by opening up the tines a little.

I think that unless you really want a fine nib, a broad nib in Japanese pens is more like writing with a fountain pen with an M nib.However, that dry upstroke is in my H-M nib as well and I like it because it gives me ghost lines when I want them and they are on the side stroke for my side writing. For myself, it is the nib I buy Sailor pens for so if I didn't like the nibs so much I wouldn't buy Sailors. I am a handwriting student first and a pen fan second so that's my bias. Dead on review.

Sailor nibs are not intended to be smooth. They are meant to have a pencil like feel. You could have Michael Masuyama make that thing buttery smooth for you. 'The quick brown fox' is as you said a sentence that uses every letter. They are called pangrams. I did find your willingness to be punched in the face over and over by a tea quite humorous. However after watching this I now want a Chi Latte and I dont have any so I have to go out in the cold.

God the more I research this pen, the more I want it. I'd get it in extra fine though. Most extra fines aren't fine enough for me.

For me, I prefer black pens. Because I have to match the ink with the pen. Except for black pens. Black goes with everything.

When you review how a pen writes, wouldn't it be better if you use dark ink so that we can see the details much better?
I have this pen in broad nib and for me it feels like fine. I am not sure if I like the pen for the this reason.
