no one understands it's harder for Supergirl to deal with her planet being gone than it is for Superman because he was a baby & she was a 13 year old girl, so she remembered more of Krypton than he did.
+Joe Cyr actually in ENGLISH it's an S.......on Earth there are a multitude of languages, such as Japanese and German....and not all of them are written the same, nor does every letter and every word correspond in the ENGLISH language.....soooooo it's more along those lines....ijs
I like the part where Hank Henshaw says "She's not strong enough!" when Kara is getting the shit kicked out of her by Baldy McAxeMurder, and her sister says "Why? Because she's a woman?" I love that line because it's possibly the stupidest thing that character could've said, and really highlights the pandering tone of the show. 1) Earlier in the episode, Alex rappelled from an attack helicopter to save Kara from the same villain, then ordered the chopper to chase him off. Henshaw (Alex's boss) obviously has no problems about placing women in combat situations. 2) Supergirl is not human. No one who knows about her powers would ever assume she was weaker than even the strongest man. 3) The bad guy is _literally_ stronger than Supergirl. She only beats him by begging for mercy to lure him close, then roasting his axe with heat vision.
Liesmith I know, for awhile I never watched past the pilot, the. I found out about the crossover with Flash, Arrow etc. So I'm struggling through all of it, sorry watching I uh meant watching.
The writing was always frustrating for me. I didn't continue watching when it moved networks, so maybe it's better now. As an outside observer, it just felt like the writers were trying to convey a certain story, but had Very Smart People In Suits telling them to shoehorn in certain things.
Wipeout325 I do not blame you in the slightest. I blitzed through it on Netflix because I had a Facebook friend telling me that some later episodes were ok. I later found out she meant _just_ the Flash crossover.
I wonder they made Vartox a baddy when he is the Superman of Valeron? By that I mean in the comics Vartox is exactly like Superman. Last of his kind living on earth, and looking like Sean Connery
spoilers in case anyone doesnt know what im about to talk about. i find it funny that they say hank henshaw is a good man even though he becomes a cyborg evil version of superman in the comics after the original supes was killed by doomsday.
Great reaction! Nice to see different faces, though your reactions are always amazing. Soooo Alice is Eric's wife ? Or Calvin's ? They both have a beard LOL
I like the shot where you see Superman opening the escape pod Supergirl is in but you don't see his face, just his silhouette. EPIC. He actually looks like a god (I know he practically is but still). Although I didn't see the full pilot episode the acting doesn't seem solid and a bit amateuristic at times. Also the special effects... Sorry but this pilot doesn't seem to do her character any justice. For 2015 the show seems to cheesy for my taste, especially if it's set in the Man of Steel universe. It would suit the Superman Returns mythos better if you'd ask me. Great reaction though!
+J.D. van Sprang 1. what gave you the imprssion it was set in the man of steel universe? 2. why would you even want in to be set in the man of steel universe?
NekoVira 1. An ScreenRant article from several months ago. Then again, I never set it took place in the MoS universe. I said IF it does. 2. I never said I wanted it to take place in that universe. I said if it was part of a shared cinematic universe I would've prefered it to be the Superman Returns universe. But like I also said, this pilot didn't appeal to me as much as I hoped. It was too stereotypically cheesy. Mind you from time to time I do like stereotypical drama and cheesiness but combined it can be a 'suicidal' mess if the right character/setting aren't applied to the story.
J.D. van Sprang I really don't get what everyone means by "Cheesey", I thought I understood the concept but I haven't seen "cheesey" being use to descride the flash or agents of sheild so I don't get what makes the super-family shows different.
NekoVira In advance sorry for the long response: At times I find The Flash cheesy as well but it makes up for it because of my fondness for the main character, his powers and how they are presented in the show (so yes I'm bias). I haven't seen Agents of Shield long enough to judge so I won't. Like I said in my initial comment, imo, from the pilot segments I saw I thought there was quite some overacting and certain lines didn't deliver the necessary punch to make them believable. To me it felt like people just acted dramatic, I didn't believe they felt the drama their characters were going through themselves. So overall performances felt amateuristic at times (the actress who played Kara when she was young seemed genuine in her feelings though, I can appreciated). Although it's still just a pilot I have a feeling it's meant for a certain audience, which unfortunately I'm not a part of. It's missing a serious/relatable tone I had hoped to see in the character of Supergirl. It seems the tone they're going for in this show I already saw in the 1984 Supergirl movie and obviously in the classic Christopher Reeve Superman saga. Those were fine for their time and even now they're admirable to a certain extent. It
8:34 "it would be all over my face" no if ur flying the gravity would be going forward not backward therefore keeping ur hair down unless u r flying backward
Melanie and Alice...very good to see you ladies! Represent Yall :D It's an okay show, this pilot is no better or worse than AoS, Arrow or the Flash's pilot episodes. As with each o those there were good and not so good elements that over the course of the first season and beyond.....they got smoothed out and found their rhythm. I got the Dean Cain Superman reference, but didn't realize Helen Hunt had played SuperGirl...great way to pay homage to the past. I wish they would change her uniform tho, it is really dated! I personally don't LIKE her nerdiness, nor did I like Felicity's, just my opinion, way too over the top....Actually NO ONE does NerdyGirl better than Simmons AoS! What I think the show needs or SuperGirl needs, is an entire season just learning how to fight, I think that would be interesting, she needs a Mistress Miagi....lastly Cat's lips are perfectly botoxed and pouty for the role, I think they fit perfectly with who and what her character is supposed to represent.....thank you both for the video hope to see more of you
Many references to the first Superman movie if you played close attention! For one, when she hears that high pitched sound, that no one else can hear, I will let you figure out the others!
Great to see your video on the first season.....was wondering , what program are you using to make this video...cheers..thank you Babam !! pretty good for a pilot .....a pilot episode !! LOL
The original Pilot trailer was removed off youtube because it had 30k likes and 76k dislikes, people were calling it a feminist show and watching it, you get that vibe. From how all the men are idiots "oh your a lesbian thats why you wont date me." to the "you wanna be helpful? go back to making coffee" lines from men to supergirl. And the after credit scene "of course he failed, his kind are weak" Its about female empowerment, if you look into th writer she has said on record that "i am a feminist and this is my chance to show the world that women are the superior sex" Avoiding that bit, i watched it again today and found the show bellow average, not surprised the guys didnt do a review on it. Its gonna bomb like Birds of Prey did back in 2001
Carl Klimaytys there was a male feminist at a feminist rally a few years back and this woman went ape shit at him, calling him every name under the sun. And he was like "i am all for female empowerment, im a feminist too, I donate all my money to Anita" I personally cannot stand feminism, im for equality. The whole men, or women, are better argument is stupid and sadly Supergirl is about a feminist thanks to the female writers, producer and directors involved.
BTW how old is Supergirl because she was 13 when Superman was a day old then like 20 to 28 years had pass when she got to earth but like then its a few years after that so shes like 30 something to like 40 something right?
+SupernaturalCupcake I'm not sure how that works either, then again I haven't actually seen the full pilot episode. But if the writers of this show specifically took inspiration from the Man of Steel universe, or if the two are connected, than she would've been been frozen for a while when initially landing on Earth. That means Superman would age in the meantime while Supergirl wouldn't because she's in cryo-sleep. Maybe I'm overthinking it. I don't know :P
J.D. van Sprang No she was never frozen like superman, she just ended up in a place in space on the way to earth that stoped her aging for 20 something years but when she got to earth Superman found her right away and i think it is in the same universe even tho there are lots of thing form the film in the episode that they don't use the same what is really dumb
+SupernaturalCupcake Okay then it would explain why she ends up being physically younger than Superman when she arrived on Earth. And it's possible Superman could detect her arrival on Earth immediately, nothing wrong with that.
J.D. van Sprang but why does she look 20 when shes like late 30s? I guess maybe her ageing is all messed up now or something but with that logic they should have just lefted her a 13 year old because that actor was much better then the one there using for her also then she really would be a "Super girl"
***** yeah guess your right. Also did you notice that in the flashback when she was introduced to her adoptive parents the guy who played the father (Dean Cain) also played Superman in the show from the 90s? And the mother (Helen Slater) is played by the Supergirl from the 1984 movie.
Why the hell were you even looking at that part of her in the first place? Also, consider that you are not the target audience. Also, CBS didn't make the Flash or Arrow, the CW did. Get your damn facts straight.
+JORGE GIMENEZ i can understand them, the plot is convoluted and the characters unnessessary contradictive, i felt as if lost braincells while watching it.
+JORGE GIMENEZ I've read the ratings show that, for teenagers, it got more views from teenage guys than teenage girls. It is a show for any gender. It is, however, big on women power, so I'd say the reviewers being two women is, indeed, more appropriate.
no one understands it's harder for Supergirl to deal with her planet being gone than it is for Superman because he was a baby & she was a 13 year old girl, so she remembered more of Krypton than he did.
I love Kara's reaction to seeing herself on the news.
I found it so cute
I know this is a comment from four years ago, but still
I guess it's quite off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream new movies online?
@Finnegan Dylan Flixportal =)
@Jace Kyle Thank you, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D Appreciate it!!
@Finnegan Dylan you are welcome :D
It isn't an S. It's the Kryptonian language for 'the house of El'.
But on earth, it's an S :P
+Kaiser it means hope

Bev Hill-Garrett true.
Got is. So basically what you're saying is S lives in L. Why S and L? Oh god, SNL? Okay, let's take a step back here...

Liesmith it is painful to watch, I just watched the red kryptonite one, and I'm struggling to continue past some of the poor writing/plot holes.
Wipeout325 I do not blame you in the slightest. I blitzed through it on Netflix because I had a Facebook friend telling me that some later episodes were ok.
I later found out she meant _just_ the Flash crossover.
Oh my god, yes. So glad someone else said it. Thank you.
FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO LIKES IT!
I like the show. It was awkward early on, but it got better as it went on , when it got more sure of itself
Same, it's a really good show
I’m so glad I’m not the only person who likes this show

Superman was sort of never the only survivor. There are Kryptonians everywhere.

+Silent Gamer2015 really im all for female empowerment but making the men look bad to do so doesn't that in fact contradict itself.

It's literally the pilot, and it was a funny thing that Winn said, one. And yes, his kind, as in, ya know, a damn alien race from another galaxy.
Can't help thinking of he-man everytime they say "the most powerful man in the universe"
i k how it feels with the glasses happens all the time when throwing myself off tall building jkkkk

THe 'she was older than hm and sent to look after him" bit is actually a modern redo of it. Not part of the original. Just to be picky. :)
This episode was bad i hope the writing and acting gets better for the next one also did anyone see that camltoe
I agree, coming from the people that made the flash and arrow, I am very underwhelmed... Step up your game cbs!
It got worse lol

I had no idea Jor-El had 2 sisters.
Brandon Dodge well, sisters-in-law.
Jor-El didn't have sisters, just a brother, Zor-El, who is Kara's father. Alura and Astra's birth last name were In-Ze, they're from another house.
appreciate the reaction but would like that the guys also do a reaction, please
Would Kara be the younger cousin or older cousin?
probably both the Younger Older Cousin
Technically, I would say the older cousin but not really since the didn't age for 24 years
Melanie with them jokes
Melanie is in nova what?
my glasses do that 2
the guys didn't want to do this because is a show for girls??
