Our body tells us the way we should respond in any given situation...that is how I was able to execute effective attacks. I just don't think I just respond in the moment...

Great video. It would be very helpful to get a side view of moving gomaku forward in zankutsi dachi for a tski. In this video there was a great demonstration of moving gamaku to the side, as in Naihanchi kata, but hard to see forward movement when the strike comes directly at you . Also, Shihan demonstrated a tski with a very quick retraction back, a quick whipping movement by the arm and shoulder, not the hips. But the center of gravity cannot be supported by a whip, only by a stick. Our legs are not whips, but sticks, that is why we can stand and walk. Should not there be a kime, a final tensing of the arm at the point of impact to make it rigid like a stick, so the energy from moving the center of gravity forward be transferred to the target? If there is no rigid structural bridge from the hora to the striking surface, then the target is not gonna feel the impact of the center of gravity, it is like punching with the arm only. It can be very fast, but the bodyweight is not connected to the fist by a solid support structure and the power will be limited. It is easy to experience the difference while breaking boards. Even a slow punch with kime will break them through the transfer of the body weight. Boxers too go stone rigid at the moment of impact and do the candle focus drill just like the karateka. Hope that Shihan can elaborate on his own approach to kime.
