Grim Dawn is right in the pocket between D2 and PoE; lots of character customization, build defining gear sets, and just enough complexity to not be overwhelming. Every time I think I want to get into a different ARPG, I see Grim Dawn installed and realize it's the only one I need. Also with a new expansion coming and the continued support and updates, there's no question about Crate devotion to it's players.
Haven’t played d4 yet, probably won’t until it goes on sale…I bought grim dawn when the entire game was bundled with its expansions for about 32rm. Didn’t get into it at that time but after it sat in my library for about a year I put a few hours in and built up my character. Made something I felt was unique to my playstyle a dual pistol engineer with occult magic powers. Got to love the stat system flexibility
Yeah D4 could use a bit more time with updates and patches. I certainly didn't feel the rush to play D4 gave me an advantage, I mean not really that interested to play the seasonal stuff. It's ok but waiting till network issues stabilize. Grim Dawn at its current state just keeps giving with its variety of content and class.
Hey buddy, I have a pyromancer too, and I love GD, d4 is no contest. Love the freedom and depth that it offers, and you can really create something of your own (combined with the devotion). You need to max all your resistances man, even if that means you lose a bit of damage, it is still a lot better. Glass cannon just doesn't work in GD, especially the later stage. I think of it as 80% as standard, and if i only have 75% on one, I consider it +25% damage from enemy. I like the boss fights in GD, they have more mechanics than D4.
Thanks for the tip. I think i will try to look at ways to increase the resistances before progressing further. Im starting to feel the battles are becoming much more challenging.

Firstly, thank you for viewing this video :) Halfway through the production of this video, I sorta went into this Versus direction which I like and I think is relatively unique. While this video was more of a quick take, future Versus videos will be much more in-depth but not overwhelming to new players in the genre. It’s going to take a while to make these videos, but I’ve already got some ideas. I’ll stick to stuff I’m more knowledgeable about. More classic stuff, strategy etc. If you like this idea for a video series, it would be great if you can like the above video. Note on the quality or rather the color of this video. It’s not exactly how these games look like. VEGAS PRO has a problem rendering gameplay footage, making it more contrasty and darker. I’ve adjusted levels to the best of my abilities. I’ve also bit the bullet and subscribed to Premiere Pro, so I might take a bit longer than usual for the next video to be out as I get a handle on it. Cannot wait for titan quest 2 , early 2024. Diablo 4 uninstalled, all blizz app an games. Playing that betha d4 only for graphics not fun, never managed to get a toon to lvl 100.
LOL, the developer who made TQ is the same developer who made Grim Dawn. After THQ bought Titan Quest ,. Crate was the new company. The owner of both the engine for TQ anf GD runs Crate.
@@WanderAbroad I appreciate that detailed response. GD just doesn’t feel and look like POE. Which I just love the music and the graphics. I just switched it 1440p and it’s looks great. I’m sure GD has great music and graphics too. I didn’t stick with GD after starting. I kid of went to Starfield after getting it free with my new 6750 XT.
The Blizzard that made Diablo 2 doesn't exist anymore,it's ALL about money now, over quality! From ARPG genre, Grim dawn absolutely beats D4! Specially Reign of Terror mod! But since Divinity Original Sin 2, I prefer crpg style game now, where a lot of thinking and strategizing is involved, and then enters Baldur's Gate 3! Can't keep away from that game, my 3rd playthrough since release!
I'd say grim dawn's boss fights are far better than you are giving them credit for. Grim Dawn in the one game that actually has mechanics that are melee friendly. Like bosses have 1 or 2 additional mechanics that they do if you are out of melee range. Sure, when you encounter most of them early on or if you power up a lot later on, most can be ignored, though the super bosses (and league super bosses) require either perfect play, or an overpowered character. The new ultra difficulty setting (that you just toggle onto ultimate, not another play through) will make this clearer, like doing SR 90 bosses, but in the campaign.
if im not mistaken GD is 11 years old game. 5 EA Beta + 6 form release date) and developer still working on it (patch and new DLC). so please tell me how the fuck you can compare this two?
I plan to do more videos looking at the old and new, the sequel and the previous iteration, or two modern titles in the same genre. The idea is not an objective analysis of the two but a look at their design differences and ultimately the gameplay experience we get without considering graphics etc. Its also from my personal perspective sharing my personal preference. Hope to do more like these but better than this video, with more depth. Grateful if you would wanna stick around and check out my new ones later on. :)
Abysmal performance ?? From the looks of your video, your machine isn't that strong ?!? What are you running on, if you don't mind me asking? Also, I've had an absolute blast with season 1 running the Necromancer. I'm also a Grim Dawn player. Mostly from years ago, but it's also a great game. Although, it doesn't hold water next to diablo 4. We should talk about this. Give me a shout sometime.
It's not a PC problem. It's a network issue. The segment in the middle of this video was a mistake I did to have my video editing software in the background which made it worst. But the footage at the start of the video is really what I experienced. The open world lags whenever it needs to load anything that has to do with other players or even the mobs, even opening the menu. The only place where its smoother is in the instanced dungeons (where you dont have other players running around). I'm playing from Asia so my experience may not be the same as yours. It's Blizzards servers here that is not able to handle the increased player count. Interestingly this was also my experience with the launch of the game but they managed to make things smoother later on, so I had a good experience playing the campaign. Season 1 has been bad till now.

While I can appreciate your opinion on weather or not season 1 was good at launch or not, it is an objective one, because my experience with it has been pretty positive with both the new mechanic and the over all experience. There are lagging issues here in the states as well. Mainly rubber banding for me. Also, I wasn't in anyway indicating it was a "PC problem" at all. However, depending on what's under your hood, you could have a much better experience or a worse one. Well nice to chat and hope all is well my friend!
Apologies for the late reply. The video is darker because it was rendered using Vegas Pro. Its a known issue. Ive shifted to Premiere Pro now. I think the performance shoukd be better now... but i havent logged in back d4. I will still try to stay positive on d4 and hope sometime down the road i will find it enjoyable.
I played d2 for 16 years. I play GD from Day 1 till now. I let GD to play D4. I quit D4 and play GD. Grim dawn is the best game in genre after d2.
Absolutely agree! Grim Dawn is better than D4 from almost EVERY aspect - except the cut-scenes 😅

No contest. D4 has pretty much 1 effective build per class. GD has a motherload of classes, each with numerous effective builds.
Titan quest did the dual class system first, its not a inovation

11 years from now, Grim Dawn will still be miles better than D4
GD will stay there longer than d2 . Because has the D2 sense improved. And they continue to improve it.
