In terms of gameplay, depth, lore and conceptual design, GD. D4 is much newer from a AAA studio though so the graphical quality will be superior. GD is still my favorite arpg ever made though.
@@Arshay I agree that D4 is superior in the graphics department, however unforunately that all it has going for it at least atm. HOpefully it improves over time, at least we have Grim Dawn to play now
As someone with 5k hours in Grim Dawn, since Alpha/Beta, EA, Release; Yeah it does but not even targeting D4 itself, it's for me, the best ARPG to date, and is still getting love from Crate.
@@flexin85 Even browsing the DLC and the "support the developers LOYALIST PACK" tongue and cheek cosmetic addons got positive reviews. The surface level low effort battle arena "which is actually good once you try it and learn the way it works, it is actually a nice alternative progression and flavor mixup" Crucible mode has positive reviews. Everything just screams " play me." As someone who jumped aboard late after the kickstarter and didn't even find it till after launch it is kind of ahead of its time. OG D2 "modded with pluggy stash and always active runes" and Grim Dawn sit atop the pinnacle of ARPG games. I doubt anyone will create something of equal weigh in the coming decade, it is a rare passion project that delivers. It delivers so well in fact I quit POE to go back to it because I just couldn't get the live service taste out of my mouth.
@@WhatWillYouFind and do not forget...all of it's mechanics work perfectly! From the beginning back then they were fixing things and bugs non stop! That was a thing that amazed me with this game and the company.
I've got 700 hours in Grim Dawn and still even haven't beaten any celestial bosses... The game is AMAZING. My best buy ever. Once you start playing it u can't stop, it's just so addictive.. The other great news is that they are actually launching a NEW UPDATE with NEW CONTENT and NEW QUALITY OF LIFE features in the next few months!! So if you have never played that game and like the genre - BELIEVE ME - you will absolute LOVE it!!!!
I am very much looking forward to the new update coming to Grim Dawn, it is amazing that Crate even still updates this game with QoL of life features at all. I 100% agree with you if anyone is a fan of ARPGS Grim Dawn is fully worth checking out!
Yeah. The game is getting better and better all the time. They stopped the expansions and since then they improve anything! And they ask not a single cent. I wish for a third expansion. Ashes of Malmouth is the best expansion ever after immortal throne in Titan quest.
@@flexin85 Just to put it in perspective, Grim Internals was probably the second most popular QoL mod after Rainbow Filter. I say "was", because since about a year seems to be discontinued from the creator and now has compatibility issues. Crate will be integrating serveral QoL features from the mod into the game itself with a free patch. GD is a hidden gem in the genre, mostly because in made by a studio that seems being a hidden gem in the industry...
@@kollus3234 It is insane the amount of content and QoL features Crate gives Grim Dawn for free, they really do deserve alot more recognition. I guess when you are an independent developer that actually has passion for your projects they deliver amazing titles like GD.
GD is very underrated, I used to play this game so much when I was deployed on my off time. And make it crazier the devs just announced new content coming. For sure worth a buy
@@flexin85 Yup! getting to learn about it from that 2h reveal video right now. Also looks like you forgot to mention Grim Dawn 2 confirmed as well. Ha! What a year for gaming. Let's hope Crate doesn't opte for unity this time though. I'll bet on it, for even Zentai got the time to grow best Grim Beard of sort. So, Coffee + 2h GD video it is. I'm on it! And thanks for the head's up by the way. I don't know how I'd have done without you, all lost like I am between Jagged Alliance and Baldur's Gate savegames. I guess I got TWO focused for a while. Let's make it to FREE.
Grim Dawn is hands down one of my favorite playthroughs I've ever experienced. I have to say, the whole story makes you want to sit and listen. The game feels like you are in a book, a really really good book you want to keep going through. This game is a total gem, and will forever be one of the tops of my list for sure.
Oh the lore is truely amazing, I think it is something most people overlook. Simply because most of it is hidden out in the world. The lore notes and the enviroment tell a ton of great stories.
Also, the notes you find along the way add a nice touch to the game. For instance the notes of the mad scientist who created the slith (especially the last one, brrr...) and trip south...
Crate just announced yesterday that Grim Dawn is getting a THIRD expansion. 10th mastery Berserker that has some transformation skills, 2 more rogue-like dungeons, even more class combos, new gear (word is there MIGHT be a relic that has a transformation ability independent of Berserker mastery).
I am very excited about this new expansion! getting a shapshifting mastery that focuses on cold and bleed damage, is oging to be amazing. Plus even the 1.2 patch coming out soon looks like a great addition as well
For me, Grim Dawn is just better game than others, its made for replayability, the progression is rewarding and the steps are noticeable. For example, D4 is ok, but i don't feel like replaying it or messing with build (or paragon board). Any game is fun when you play it first time, and very few games you can replay many many times and have fun. For me its Grim Dawn and D2R.
I really found my home with Grim Dawn. An aspect that I absolutely adored was pairing one class (mastery) with another to get a considerably unique avenue to create a unique build. So many viable builds, and the skill and constellation thingy is just complex enough to enjoy experimentation, yet as a family man, I don't need to take a day off work just to research builds and fear wasted effort cause I can't respec my character. I am really excited for the DLC in 2024, although I wish they'd make a full on sequel.
@@archaontheeverchosen539 I'm looking forward to Titan Quest 2 actually. Never played the first, but I'm too addicted right now to maxing out my Grim Dawn characters and organizing my loot.
I have over 800 hours in Grin Dawn and I keep coming back to it. It is often on sale on steam and should be a must try for any fan of the genre. Great video here and a fair comparison and break down,
I am in the same boat, GD is a game that always sucks me back in. It just offers so much content and build variety. Thank you watching the video and for the kind feedback!
I first discovered this game during the pandemic, the base game was on sale for 5 bucks. I got hooked. Such a great ARPG. Really surprises me that it isnt mentioned more often. Build variety is insane
GD, Torchlight 2 or PoE (Early Access) so many people would advertise other arpgs for people to try because the launch of D3 disappointed so many fans. One thing I will give the D4 developers at least they are not saying stupid stuff like "Deckard Cain was annoying" like the D3 devs did.
@@flexin85 blizzard hasn't respected any of their IP since the SC Remaster " which was moreso Samsung and the fury of Korea would be endless, I think they alone would sink their ship somehow." D3 disappointed me mostly because I did seasonal stuff on and off. Kanai cube was the best time I ever had because the launch period was so crappy and even with IRL friends I couldn't get over the RMAH. It was nonsense watching that graft. TL2 with mods is a good experience, but it has weird scaling issues without mods and a none existent end game imo. I actually liked TL3 but it left a sour taste to see the new owners just abandon it. I finished TL3 one time and had a blast, but one time was enough??????? POE has a couple of problems for me. 1, the real end game is just a numbers crunch and while the systems and ability to play with how things activate is nice . . . its just for numbers. Build Identity just didn't feel like it did in D2, Grim Dawn, Victor Vran, or similar ARPGs. POE is also a service, not a product with all those trappings but at least it is old blood fair akin to WF. Build diversity up until the most recent reworks basically amounted to MAJOR KEYSTONES and practically nothing else, the web itself is superficial in giving the opinion of choice but really it is just fluff with some major fillers throughout much like FF10 had with its own grid system. The new update however changes all of that with on the fly gear swapping so maybe I will check it out again because that fundamentally alters the implication of the grid. I still play D2 and Grim Dawn, I have little deserve for Live Service after a decade of rug pulls and cash grabs. I've been following POE for years and years, as a service it is probably the best in the bunch. I never really played meta builds, but I also just wasn't invested enough after the campaign to buy stash tabs or pursue anymore which is the opposite I felt with GD because of the IDENTITY classes and even individual item sets put forward? The D4 developers fireside chat with the most recent patch notes was full of gaslighting. How can a developer say we changed those systems to make things better when they actually do the opposite? DM Diablo 4 has done content videos on it, hes actually fairly level headed about it. His take though mirrors the sentiments of the backlash, it is just a bad patch and the develops really sounded like they have no clue what they're doing in the developer patch notes video. D4 will implode if it doesn't do a 180 before Poe2 drops and or people just explore the older catalog. Sadly, Kotik will still be paid for this mess he likely created dragging everything we've loved from the husk of Blizzard in the mud. I haven't played a Blizzard game since I launched SC Remaster and thankfully saw it was as advertised. The writing is on the wall with all these greedy corporations and so many indie games deserve my time and money. Hey if you like awesome indie games check out Starsector for a scifi space combat simulator or Melvor if you're wanting a traditional rpg wrapped around an idle shell. both are pretty stellar.
@@ZyklonBeast12 not going to lie you are the first person, I have seen refer to GD as cartoony. not saying you are wrong, just think that is an interesting take
I grew up playing D1 and D2 both timeless classics IMO. Have you tried the Reign of Terror mod, if not I would recommend checking it out since your a fan of D2 and Grim Dawn.
@@flexin85 I watched some videos on TH-cam. It's a good mod. I don't know how old you are but I'm 51 now. I prefer to play the games as they are these days. They zoomed out the camera again in GD which is awesome. I can see all my aoe now. I purchased d4 because I'm diablo fan and i quit it. Nothing compares to my pet build that i play now in GD. So much fun!
@@HermesAthena72 I like to play the game the first time as intended at least, and enjoy the modding scene afterwards. However some mods add so much QoL to the game, for instance if D4 supported mods officially and there was one to pull the camera out I would definately use that feature.
I also love the mods for Grim Dawn. I only use the quick level up one and the loot one. Cause after playing hundreds of hours, it's nice to just be able to level up and get rare loot faster so I can have fun experimenting with a new build. I also love the illusion system in the game that lets you make your gear look like other gear.
That's not even mentioning that during sales, Grim Dawn goes down to $5 to $10!!!!!! For a game that can give you thousands of hours of content, that is a super steal!
Mods add so much life to games, whenever a company does not support mods I think it is such a mistake and really does kill the life span of most games.
@@flexin85 my exact thoughts. Any game without mods looses so many opportunities to become better. Especially when devs work together with mod makers and implementing the most popular mods into core game... 🧑🍳🤌🤌

You control the market, dont buy d4. Do not buy games released by trash money milking companies and people. Only you can make the future games better by putting your money only in good games and developers
I'm glad you found Grim Dawn The New DLC Coming Soon! Grim Dawn is the most underrated Awesome game ever made. People who play this game became super fans and we made this a cult classic. im a Day 1 player im super geeked for the DLC I thought they would be working part 2 but heck ill take a DLC.
The new patch and expansion are looking great, can not wait to try out all the changes coming to the game. Plus a new mastery as well! As for a GD 2 I know Crate said they are working on a new engine, and that Grim Dawn 2 would be developed (if they decide to make it) on the new engine.
This video should get a double thumbs up!! Diablo 4 is not even in the same realm as Grim Dawn. Grim Dawn is just so much... MORE.. As well as being extremely FUN!
I think you forgot to mention how end-game items work in GD. There are hundreds of epics, rares, sets and monster infrequents that you can loot, look at the skill bonuses they have and think "Hmm this class combination with this item might actually be good." and then spend hours in GD database theorycrafting based on that item alone.
Titan Quest 2 is on the way, I am very excited to see how that turns out. While GD2 has not been offically announced Crate did say they are building a new engine, and if they do announced GD2 it will be built on that new engine.
Grim Dawn actually looks pretty good to me. Even on Series X at 1080p 120, it has a timeless aesthetic and runs nearly flawless. If they ever patch it to run at native 4K with a proper implementation of HDR, then I can see it being easy on the eyes for another decade. Hell, Titan Quest still looks sharp imo. Iron Lore Engine ftw.
I have not played the Xbox verison of Grim Dawn yet, but maybe it will be something I pick up on the future. I do agree the game looks really nice, and Titan Quest still looking amazing today. It is such a beautiful game.
@@flexin85 It's outstanding tbh. Mouse & keyboard support and the best controller translation I've ever seen for what's basically a 1-to-1, raw PC port.
It doesn't need all those things, Crate is working on a new engine for Grim Dawn 2, and that game will probably look on par with other more modern visually ARPGs like D4 or PoE 2.
@@flexin85 Same. Imagine Grim Dawn but improved in every aspect and with a modern engine. That'll be a nearly perfect ARPG, all i really wanted in GD, despite not being a visual gamer, is updated engine and some more content in it. We will 100% get it in GD 2. Can't wait for the first glimpses of in-game footage and i hope it will not be a few years until then. It's great that Farthest Frontier already sold a decent amount of copies even in early access though, it will surely help.
Grimm Dawn is my fav hack&slash. Last year's I played mostly online games like WoT, Fortnite, BF1 but 2023 become arpg year for me. I bought Diablo 3 +2 and played 3 for few weeks (including my 1st time ever hardcore characters - d3 campaign completed). Then I played shortly very innovative Inquisitor Martyr, now came back do D2 after 15 or so years. I got in mind to check after years PoE. But anyway Grim Dawn is my all time fav mostly because of the story and depressive grimm atmosphere, I especially
I agree the other games can be really fun, I do enjoy league start for PoE. It is always fun for about a month or so. Warhammer Inquisitor Martyr is another game I feel like is overlooked, as it can be fun blasting away hordes of enemies with a shotgun or flame thrower. However Grim Dawn just has so much content packed into it. Like you said the bosses, the world and the lore just feel amazing. Plus while it is deep in its mechanics, its presented in a way you dont need 10 tabs opened on the side like you do for PoE. GD is just something special 😀
yeah, i knew d4 would suck when they described how "pure" builds would receive diminishing returns and ultimately they were saying that there will be less variety in the game which means less builds. i mean after playing d4, there really is no such thing as a "pure build" theres just a bunch of chaotic crap. its just a bad game. people make videos about what the devs are doing next. idc what they are doing next, and will never care. the game is horribly mechanically designed. the concepts, the mechanics, the punishing progression on builds. THE NO TRADE it just all sucks... im a huge d2r fan. i may get into grim dawn. sounds like my kind of game.
Love grim dawn, and the way I challenge myself is, build a character that doesn't exist in build calc, at least there's some major variation to the nearest one, and complete SR75-76 on hardcore, that's when I consider my character "fully matured". It's very fun to play. D4 is no contest.....
The build options in GD seem endless it really lets people make extremely unique or whacky characters. D4 just simply needed more time in the Oven, it was definately rushed out...
@@flexin85 Really now, Grim dawn supports all the types of DMG so wonderfully! It's amazing! Aoe, pets, dots, everything! YOU GO NOWHERE WITHOUT RESISTANCES and this is one of the best things in the game!

My first ARPG since Diablo 2. I played Demolitionist up to the Krieg Boss without noticing i had to assign my Skills to the Mouse buttons / Hotbar. So i played without them. And it still was fun!
Grim Dawn and Titan Quest are the only ARPGs in which I have finished every difficulty, one after the other, and actually ended up with loot compared to some of the bests builds made by other peoples, something I have never done in other ARPGs. This speaks volume of the games quality, and that they scratch that little itch to just go on, one more level
they offer something other ARPGs just do not, I love the setting and the dual class system in each of these games. Cannot wait to see they they do next with GD and TQ2
I started playing this game a month ago. Already 200 hrs on a warder primal strike build. Ive played damn near every arpg since the esrly 2000s, this is THE one. Hate that it was out for years before i ever tried it all that time wasted in subpar games.
thank you for spreading the word about this game. i think most ppl pass it up because they are more focused on the multiplayer and feel that grim dawns is "dead" to be honest i dont play multiplayer so i dont know about it
Absolutly I love GD and the more people that get to try it out the better. As for the MP I am sure a ton of people over look it because it lacks dedicated servers. However, not every game needs to be an online over title.
I'm a casual gamer but even so, yesterday I reached 1900+ hours in Grim Dawn. I've been trying several classes new to me but, my favorite still is the (according to people) boring soldier turned Warlord for hardcore I loved Diablo 3, I played hardcore solo for several years, and if it gets on Steam, I'll get it to play again so I decided to try Diablo 4. To be perfectly honest, I enjoyed what little hardcore I played (while the free pass lasted) but I skipped the story because it was boring for me, which is sad because the world looked good, and I replayed D3 story several times because all the secrets in the map, I'm still a staunched fan of the awesome Captain Haile Now I need to try Epoch, and PoE although for what I've read, the story don't matter there either Grim Dawn can be played offline which is just another plus
Grim Dawn really is a game that ends up sucking up so much of your time. So many build options to theory craft and secrets to discover in the world. As for D4 I will admit it has gotten alot better since I made this video, and S4 is actually not "terrible" but it still just feels lacking when compared to other games in the genre IMO. As for PoE it really is another amazing game, just be forward it has a very steep learning curve. Last Epoch is sort of in the middile of D4 and PoE, it is a complete blast to play and is one game that can be played offline just like Grim Dawn!
and now as of today they announced a 3rd expansion, after saying they were done with content updates in 2020. Just because they said they got an "itch". Been playing since 2015 and I am so happy its getting the attention it has always deserved.
Grim Dawn is one of those games with SO much variety (mostly achieved through builds and gearing), that I have played it for years, and always go back to it. It's an all-timer for me, up there with Warlords Battlecry and Total War: Warhammer.
@@flexin85 haha, thanks my guy! Been a gamer since I was 3, the all-timers stand out because I still return to them no matter what else comes out. Once that shiny new wears off, you miss that depth.
Grim Dawn is amazing! It's so creative and the the build potential is endless. The action is good enough and the visual feast of effects is amazing as your build starts to go online. Its deeper than D4 but not overwhelming like POE. Actually, as I grew bored of D4 i reinstalled Grim Dawn and had more fun than playing D4. It doesnt have the same peak heights as some parts of D4's campaign, but its general quality in the long run is superior.
I have Grim Dawn and play in it almost 2 years. That game become my favourite ever. Most than Half-Life 2, Medal of Honor, any of Wolfenstein series, Dishonored, and even Diablo. I play in it 4th time and still have great fun :-)
The way I see Grim Dawn vs Diablo 3/4 is like: Counter Strike vs Call of Duty, CS keeps it simple and fun, COD meanwhile keeps it bloated and boring...
I love Counter Strike, however I do admit I dont play it as much as I used too. As I get older my competitive gaming days seem further and further behind me. Though CS2 looks good, I might try it out.

And so versatile with its classes and skills.
good call! BTW if you got the game on PC and still have that Diablo itch. There is mod called Reign of Terror, where someone completely remade Diablo 1 and 2 in Grim Dawn.
I agree, except its like Blizzard copied all the mistakes Diablo 3 and WoW made and just put them into D4. LIke did they not learn from those already? Grim Dawn on the other hand just feels all around amazing. So many build options with the content to enjoy playing your characters with.

I agree 100% the lore and backstory are incredible, esp for a brand new IP. It is insane how much story is packed into this game, if you take the time to really dive into the games story it is amazing.
Just finished the main story (act 4) (pretty sure there's 3 more acts with the DLC) as a warlord (oathkeeper + soldier) played it on veteran because higher difficulties seem to be locked behind finishing the campaign. Took about 25 hours. I can say that without guides and just listening to the stories and paying attention to the quests.. the maps operating how they do and being able to reset mobs by going to the main menu.. It's fantastic. I personally love that transmog is just build into the game. I love the different combat styles. ( i went with the shield throw thing and buffed it as much as possible then went for the 2 summon guys which i didn't get to until just before the final boss so they've been kind of obsolete but can see them becoming insanely powerful ) Havent tried the crucible yet. excited to try it. I highly suggest this game.
I like Grim Dawn more than POE, but honestly the moment to moment gameplay of D4 is still super engaging and I find myself having more fun during levels 1 - 50 in D4. Part of it is probably the setting, part of it is the history behind the franchise, and a big part of it is the modern game blizzard polish that makes combat just feel good.
The campaign in D4 was not bad but afterwards the game just falls flat IMO. I will say the lore and history of the game is amazing however that is mainly due to my love of D1/D2 Grim Dawn feels like a fresh start in a series that I hope grows even larger. Esp with Crate building a new engine for Grim Dawn 2.
D4 is fun for a campaign playthrough (levels 1-50) and the expansion campaigns will probably be fun too. But that's all it has going for it. There's no endgame to love, and the seasons are garbage. Who tf wants to spend the first 10-20 hours of the game clicking statues and unveiling the world map to get renown to just get skill points, paragons, and health pot slots EVERY season? Blizzard, if you're willing to put in a campaign skip, why not just go all the way and skip the renown grind too lmfao. It all feels like a massive chore. Like taking out the trash, doing dishes, or making your bed before you get to have fun. Meanwhile, compare it to GD, Titan Quest, D2, and even PoE. I jump right in, I kill mobs, I get gear and get to have fun. No clicking statues or walking around uncovering the map for 10 hours every season start. I jump in and kill mobs, and get gear to get stronger and kill mobs faster...you know, the point of games in this genre (which D4 somehow misses even though Diablo invented the genre lol)
Diablo 4 sux because it wasn't meant to be a GOOD game but to keep getting money while tricking people. Even the main campaign is boring after the intro and ending. The season 1 storyline was short and lame as well.
D4 is playing catch up at this point, the first season was really barebones. Hopefully future seasons add a ton more but until I actually see it happen I am not holding my breathe. IMO it is sad because Blizzard games used to be the gold standard and now they all feel so unfinished at release.
@@deez3913 I agree, the game is in an awful state. It really feels like the game is in beta, lacking so many basic features. The fact that a "search" function for the stash is a bullet point for season 2, really shows the poor condition the game launched in.
I played Grim Dawn a lot in the past but I think I need to follow a build so that I can learn how to optimize things. I did that recently with Path of Exile and it helped a lot. Any recommendations on an awesome character to play? Like and Subbed!
Honestly following a build guide really helped me enjoy PoE alot as well! As for Grim Dawn I would check out grimtools.com there is a ton of build guides on the website. You can even search by class, however the cool thing about GD is you can respec really at at any time for not much Iron. The only thing you can not change is the masterys you pick.
I can recommend looking up some of the theory crafting pages. It really really helps to understand how the damage calculation formulas work and which factors are considered before others, etc. One thing that isn't explained well in game is the difference between +dmg and +%dmg. Flat damage will only increase your auto attacks or spells that use auto attack dmg as a base. Percentage increases increase all damage of the type. So any caster skills and spells will usually not benefit from any +dmg on your weapons for example. It took me waaay too long to understand and incorporate this. The other unexplained things are how physical & pierce damage work, how shield or armor damage reduction works, etc. Some of it works as expected, other things just not quite so. But it is all out there.
I've been trying to tell everyone as well to play grim dawn 😁😜 game is AMAZING, I'm doing another playthrough ATM with a necromancer. And they're coming out with a big update soon with changes , I can't wait!! Good video btw man!
I am very excited about the new update coming, plus whatever the future brings to Grim Dawn or from Crate. Thank you for the feedback btw I really do appreciate it!
Not only is Grim Dawn better than Diablo 4, even Titan Quest is better than Diablo 4. In my opinion, the last good Diablo game was D2:LoD. Blizzard clearly lost sight of what made Diablo... well Diablo.
I have not played Titan Quest in a hot minute, I will have to do another play through soon to prepare for the upcoming sequal. I agree, Blizz just has lot sight on what makes a game great. Not just with Diablo but with pretty much all of their recent titles/updates.
i have always said that GD is the best arpg of them all. i play d4 right now only cause i need to play new game but GD is unbeaten. we want a GD2 plz !
Grim dawn is my favorite game. I have played 560 hours since the last year. The game has lot of interesting stuff: sets focused on one play of palying, equipment that changes the way to use yours abilities, allied and enemys factions that unlocking new equiment, missions and bosses, the celestial's bosses (the hardest bosses in the game), etc. Also exists mods that includes new areas and classes. For example, there are mods that incluide classes from diablo II and diablo III. So, the build possibility are huge.
I love the fact the game has pieces of gear and sets that can pretty much be build defining. For some reason so many newer games just lack itemization like this. Diablo has great combat and smooth controls but the loot is just so lackluster at least with D3 and D4. As for the mods, I have no idea why more companies do not fully support the modding community. Skyrim is a great exampe of this, without mods that game would not have the life span it has had.
Dawn of Masteries adds like 1400 class combos while Reign of Terror translated Diablo 1 & 2 into Grim Dawn's settings (sadly the dev(s) dropped putting out a version with only D2 classes and gear).
@@Rokabur I heard they stopped development for the Reign of Terror mod. Which sucks because I greatly enjoy the mod, after I love GD and I love D1/2. However I heard they working on their one game now so we have that to look forward too 😃
Yo, it's just the best ARPG by far, maybe only Titan Quest (basicly it's predecesor) comes close because it has just a much better thematic choice. But wait, there's more, because there's also mods for Grim Dawn. You thought 9 classes (soon 10) wasn't enough? What about an extra 20 classes through mods?
Have not played D4 but have about 8K hours in GD. The replayability is everything. So many ways to play. I've played more hardcore than regular, for an extra challenge. You can choose any class and by about level 20 - 25 you should find some great monster infrequent items to really augment and improve your skillset or cause you to change what skills you use.

I always play Grimdawn while waiting for new leagues on POE in the past. Such a cool game. PS the quests are also reactive, some quest have different outcomes when you fulfill certain requirements.
I feel like hte lore/story get over looked because there are no cinematics. Which is really a shame because it is such an interesting world. BTW I do the same thing Grim Dawn is one of the games I play inbetween PoE leagues, both games are incredible.
So, the fact this game is getting another expansion kind of blows me away, considering just how old and big the game is already. It's on par with Titan Quest (which is even older) and is the spiritual successor to it. It's a truly great amount of good ARPG game for an extremely attractive price point, especially compared to D4's own.
Grim Dawn did it right, they took a working formula that was already good and built upon it. They took Titan Quest, gave it a new coat of paint, and polished it up. I backed GD in its very early Early Access days. Never regretted that one for a second.
I do not understand why Blizzard did not just built upon what was already working. They had a ton of examples of what works and does not work in the genre.
They had time, money, and people. They had the fundamentals already with the previous Diablo series. They had experience. All of this points towards one thing: it was intentional. It has to be. They never wanted to make a good Diablo game; they were making D4 just to earn an absurd amount of money. D4 will become a great game in a year or two, I'm sure of it. However then it will be too late. I'm a very picky gamer. Despite the fact that I've got hundreds of hours in D2 and PoE, I couldn't even spent 100 hours in D4. And the reason I played that much because it was a Diablo game, not because the game was great. I just wanted to give it a chance. Although I don't want to make a comment about Grim Dawn, more than 700 hours playtime on Steam should be enough to explain certain things.
IDk what happened with D4, honestly the game seems like it does not know what it wants to be. The game forces online, with no social features. There is a cash shop but it feels like buying cosemtics for a single player game? It is just insane to me that Blizzard has more content in Diablo Immortal then they do D4. I think you are correct, they just dont care enough to put a quality product anymore. In a year or two the game should be in a better state, after buying an expansion or two.
I love Grim Dawn. I have recently started playing it again and am looking forward to the announced expansion. The amount of character specialization is absolutely amazing. Last i checked, i had approximately over 3500 hours into it.
My first arpg was Diablo, enjoyed Diablo 2, tried D3, and it was ok-ish. But then I tried GD and immediately remembered Titan quest (a game I also used to play). GD is Titan quest on steroids. It's a hidden gem and you guys should give it a chance.
Diablo 1 and 2 where amazing, however after Blizzard North left you can tell the magic was just gone from the franchise. Luckly we have great games, like TQ and GD to fill the void. It actually feels like these games have a passionate team behind them.
Grim Dawn also has mods, and for Diablo Lovers - Reign of Terror is amazing. It is a complete remake of diablo 2. It is equally fun, if not more fun, than diablo 2 resurrected, because you get the dual class option, and mixing 2 of diablo's classes is obviously extremely fun. There is also another amazing mod called Dawn of Masteries. If you are someone who is all about making crazy builds, or you have "Alt-itis" like me, and always wanna try some new kinda class, Dawn of Masteries is it. It takes the character classes, and gearsets, from Grim Dawn, Titan Quest (another ARPG made by the same people who made Grim Dawn), Diablo 2, Diablo 3, and 2 other highly popular Grim Dawn Mods... Base Grim Dawn has 9 classes you can mix and match - Dawn of Masteries has 55! different classes to mix and match, the build options are truly limitless. There are Transmuters you can use as well, that change elemental damage types. For instance, you can convert all ice damage to fire, so are you a blizzard user? well now you're a fire blizzard user. you can even convert elemental to physical. No lie there are thousands of build options. Sorry for the novel but, anyone who is new to grim dawn NEEDS to try these mods, they are far superior to the base game. and the base game is already very good.
Grim Dawn is excellent. I strongly recommend it. Also new content is soon to be released. If you have not played Grim Dawn, quite frankly, you are robbing yourself of an excellent gaming experience. For some context: I have very nearly 3000 hours in-game and am still learning where hidden areas are, how the Celestial system works. Set items - Check! Loot Filter - Check! Dual specialities - Check! Hell of a lot of fun - Check!!! Hectic boss fights - Big check!! You can power through this game and still not kill the bosses - You have to be that good!!!
first of all hi,very good video, this should get more views.i really regret buying diablo 4 extremely boring game i barely reached level 70.I feel like my character is barely get stronger(in D4).. I've got over 600 hours in grim dawn and i'm still not bored of the game. if you're reading this don't buy diablo 4
Thank yo my for the feedback I really do appreciate it! Yes I think a lot of people regret buying D4 esp when it is crystal clear the game was not ready to be released. The game just needs more time in the oven. Grim Dawn on the other hand just feels overall amazing and has so much replay value.
Not to mention: Grim Dawn has its own SDK (offered by Crate Entertainment itself), so the community could mod the game itself beyond capabilities... 😍 With Diablo 4, well, good luck doing reverse engineering to the game 👍🏼🥑
Blizzard is very anti mod support these days. There is a reason they made it so they own any mods made in WarCraft Reforged, and why they dropped support of TCP/IP in D2R.
Grim dawn is great. I got like 1300hour in it. It has some flaws and old designs (small stasch, and 3 difficulties, you can skip them when you finishes the game for the first time with some elixier.), but its great game.
That is what i love aboug GD for most of the small flaws they at least offer work arounds. Overall it is just such a great game, I am really excited to see it is in active development again.
How do you guys think Grim Dawn compares to Diablo 4?
In terms of gameplay, depth, lore and conceptual design, GD. D4 is much newer from a AAA studio though so the graphical quality will be superior.
GD is still my favorite arpg ever made though.
If Grim Dawn had the same graphic fidelity as Diablo IV nobody would be playing Diablo IV

Crate truely have a love and a passion for their games. The fact that Grim Dawn to this day is getting QoL and balance updates speaks volumes

Are there raid bosses
Crate just announced yesterday that Grim Dawn is getting a THIRD expansion. 10th mastery Berserker that has some transformation skills, 2 more rogue-like dungeons, even more class combos, new gear (word is there MIGHT be a relic that has a transformation ability independent of Berserker mastery).

Plus even the 1.2 patch coming out soon looks like a great addition as well
Grim Dawn is even better than Path of Exile.
Ya, I've never understood the need for "end game" content. Doing the campaign multiple times each character is all I need.
people enjoy games differently to each to own.
Take away the hype and the name recognition and it is really no contest between GD and D4 or even D3.

There's something fun about the item cards actually tweening to follow the location of a item on the ground. I've always loved that about Grim Dawn.

This was the game that I would spam " just play grim dawn" when the Diablo 3 dumpster fire was still in the public eye.
@@flexin85 blizzard hasn't respected any of their IP since the SC Remaster " which was moreso Samsung and the fury of Korea would be endless, I think they alone would sink their ship somehow."
D3 disappointed me mostly because I did seasonal stuff on and off.

I've been trying several classes new to me but, my favorite still is the (according to people) boring soldier turned Warlord for hardcore
I loved Diablo 3, I played hardcore solo for several years, and if it gets on Steam, I'll get it to play again so I decided to try Diablo 4. To be perfectly honest, I enjoyed what little hardcore I played (while the free pass lasted) but I skipped the story because it was boring for me, which is sad because the world looked good, and I replayed D3 story several times because all the secrets in the map, I'm still a staunched fan of the awesome Captain Haile
Now I need to try Epoch, and PoE although for what I've read, the story don't matter there either
Grim Dawn can be played offline which is just another plus
Grim Dawn really is a game that ends up sucking up so much of your time. So many build options to theory craft and secrets to discover in the world. As for D4 I will admit it has gotten alot better since I made this video, and S4 is actually not "terrible" but it still just feels lacking when compared to other games in the genre IMO.
As for PoE it really is another amazing game, just be forward it has a very steep learning curve. Last Epoch is sort of in the middile of D4 and PoE, it is a complete blast to play and is one game that can be played offline just like Grim Dawn!
The best game of all time in the arpg games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it truely is, and we even got more updates coming soon to it!
and now as of today they announced a 3rd expansion, after saying they were done with content updates in 2020. Just because they said they got an "itch". Been playing since 2015 and I am so happy its getting the attention it has always deserved.
I am really excited to see a new expansion coming. Can not wait to see how shapeshifting works in this game!
Excellent review, this game deserves more recognition as it still holds to this day.
it really does, I love to go back to Grim Dawn and get resucked into the game.
Grim Dawn is one of those games with SO much variety (mostly achieved through builds and gearing), that I have played it for years, and always go back to it. It's an all-timer for me, up there with Warlords Battlecry and Total War: Warhammer.
I am not going to lie... you seem to have great taste in games.
@@flexin85 haha, thanks my guy! Been a gamer since I was 3, the all-timers stand out because I still return to them no matter what else comes out. Once that shiny new wears off, you miss that depth.
Such a good game, I love the dual class of this and titan quest
The dual class system just opens the door for so many great builds.
I love Titan Quest as well, two amazing titles.
Grim dawn is amazing but the combat and sound effects just aren't enough for me.
Yeah I love the itemization and theory crafting in Grim Dawn. It is what keeps me coming back time and time again. It really is something special.
I have Grim Dawn and play in it almost 2 years. That game become my favourite ever. Most than Half-Life 2, Medal of Honor, any of Wolfenstein series, Dishonored, and even Diablo. I play in it 4th time and still have great fun :-)
I always come back to GD it is just so much fun to play and try new builds.
BTW you have amazing taste in games!
GD my favorite ARPG.
It definately is a top favorite of mine as well, I can not want to see what is next for this game.
@@flexin85 oh welcome to the club, I now got 2 kids and my vision/reaction time went to SHT lol, I still play casually but my CS and QUAKE competitive days are long gone, 2004-07 was my prime :P
@@kodemasterx Yeah it sucks, guess adult life just gets in the way of "gaming time" for all us at some point. I most likely will at least dabble in CS2, but I already know going in I am going to be completely casual at the game.
I got a Diablo itch a couple weeks back. But I thought D4 was too expensive. And the whole seasonal model with battlepass and in game store is really offputting to me with limited game time. But then I suddenly spotted Grim Dawn Definitive edition on sale for about 10£. I had somehow missed this game completely, but I bought it. So glad I did, it is really good. And so versatile with its classes and skills.
good call! BTW if you got the game on PC and still have that Diablo itch. There is mod called Reign of Terror, where someone completely remade Diablo 1 and 2 in Grim Dawn.
I have 1300+ hours in Grim Dawn, diablo 'bobby kottick give me money for crap copy paste game '' 4 - ZERO hours :D
I agree, except its like Blizzard copied all the mistakes Diablo 3 and WoW made and just put them into D4. LIke did they not learn from those already?
Grim Dawn on the other hand just feels all around amazing. So many build options with the content to enjoy playing your characters with.
@@flexin85 no question there, I have a lot of hours in d3, when I saw d4 all saw is the copy paste content without the QOL elements, how do you make next game without previous game fixes?
@@aoetje474 I have no idea, the game is a complete mess. The fact that people are excited for season 2 because Resistance should be fixed by then. Or haveing to wait for season 3 for the leaderboard.

is it too late to start playing this game?
I wouldnt say so, its mainly a single player game. So always a good time to start.
@@flexin85 diablo 4 left a bitter taste in my mouth so I was looking for something old school.. I started playing grim dawn 2 days ago and I immediately liked the game so I bought all the dlc
@@Freedom-kl8rt nice! The DLC really adds so much content, you will get 100s of hours of play time out of this one.
Hopefully D4 gets bettter in the future, in the mean time enjoy Grim Dawn :)
Never is late for GD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!😊
Grim dawn is a million years ahead of d4.
I play 350 hr grim dawn and 2000hr path of exile still lot it fun
PoE is another great Arpg, looking forward to the Trail of the Ancestors league?
Grim Dawn's mechanic and dev team with Diablo IV graphics and esthetics would make for an aRPG of historical proportion
That would be incredible!
Probably won't ever play d4, but recently downloaded grim dawn and it's been fun. Got a purifier and a spellbinder I'm still leveling and going through the storyline
I am glad you’re enjoying the game, it really is an amazing title.
grim dawn also has a fascinating backstory you explore via letters/audiologs. chapter 1 is amazing
I agree 100% the lore and backstory are incredible, esp for a brand new IP. It is insane how much story is packed into this game, if you take the time to really dive into the games story it is amazing.
I liked the dialogue choices. Still remembered being upset, not being able to stop the man from burning his family to death on my first playthrough...
lets count how many times you say "grim daawn"
I actually rewatched the video and I say it over a dozen times.
Imagine if it was a drinking game lol
gotta add that extra flare at the end😆
@@dantefromdevilmaycry9857 Always gotta go out with a bang!
I will say the lore and history of the game is amazing however that is mainly due to my love of D1/D2
Grim Dawn feels like a fresh start in a series that I hope grows even larger.
Finally, I've found the VA of Buff from Borderlands 3. I also haven't bought the Forgotten Gods expansion yet 😅.
Def check out Forgotten Gods It is a great expansion, plus the oathbreaker class is amazing!
@@flexin85 well, maybe but it's laughable this is the best they could do compared to older games. Time Will tell
@@flexin85 Agreed!
Grim dawn- what D3 should've been. Necro+ arcanist is my favorite. The true spiritual succsesor of D2
Grim Dawn and PoE both feel more like what Diablo 3/4 should have been. Such amazing titles

i have always said that GD is the best arpg of them all. i play d4 right now only cause i need to play new game but GD is unbeaten. we want a GD2 plz !
I would love a grim dawn 2! How insane would it be if we get GD2 and a Titan quest 2 around the same time?
My only complaint about Grim Dawn is that there's not enough music in the game, because what's there is amazing.
it really does have an amazing sound track.
Same as TL2 WITH mods👍
Dawn of Masteries adds like 1400 class combos while Reign of Terror translated Diablo 1 & 2 into Grim Dawn's settings (sadly the dev(s) dropped putting out a version with only D2 classes and gear).
Over 20.000 total different maps in TL2 💪
@@Rokabur I heard they stopped development for the Reign of Terror mod. Which sucks because I greatly enjoy the mod, after I love GD and I love D1/2.
However I heard they working on their one game now so we have that to look forward too 😃
Great game with perfect atmosphere! I loved playing it.
It really does have an amazing vibe and lore to it.
Mark my words, everything that Diablo 4 is missing was designed that way for the purpose of future monetization.
Great game
It really is, coming from a smaller studio it is insane the amount of content and updates it gets to this day.
@@flexin85 I agree - I've only been playing for roughly a couple of weeks and I've already sunk over 70 hours into the game, and still am excited to play it. Superb game design from top to bottom

Still 4.7 hours into the game, it's a joy to play, even relaxing at times
cant wait for GD2 and POE2 😄
people said this is what d3 should of been. lmao
History repeats itself I guess lol
Grimdawn lore is so amazing, eventhough they dont have amazing cinematic animations, you'll get addicted finding pieces of readings because the lore is so unique.
It is amazing we are getting a new Grim Dawn expansion and a Titan Quest 2. Great time to be a fan of the ARPG genre!
Last i checked, i had approximately over 3500 hours into it.
fun fact, there is a dlc coming out, with a barbarian class! Which means you can play a barb, but also combine it with 9, 10 other classes!
Fangs of Asterkarn looks amazing, cannot wait to play the Berserker mastery! It is good to see shape shifting heading towards Grim Dawn!
@@flexin85 ohhh that sounds fun, haven't seen Anything yet. any idea on the date?
@@CyberBeep_kenshi I believe there is not exact date yet just that it is supposed to be sometime in 2024.
It actually feels like these games have a passionate team behind them.
id play more if it had a 4k screen resolution patch for xbox, 1080p is rough as on that platform.
it does need an Xbox Series S/X update
I've just got back into this game and also picked up the expansions on sale and I'm loving it
It really is good game.
I put the speech speed on 1.5x faster. Try it guys, it makes the video more energetic lol

With Diablo 4, well, good luck doing reverse engineering to the game 👍🏼🥑
Blizzard is very anti mod support these days. There is a reason they made it so they own any mods made in WarCraft Reforged, and why they dropped support of TCP/IP in D2R.
It even has a fantastic story as a cherry on top.
