As soon as I got near to one, my calm went and was replaced by a feeling of agitation, annoyance, and almost an angry feeling. @@homelander613 I have those orange/amber ones that block 99.9% of blue light and I know they do because when I look at my blue LED bulb, I can't see the light, it's invisible. The only problem with these glasses is that the world around you is literally orange in colour so you have to compromise between how much protection you want versus how much colour you want to see, so the yellow ones are the perfect sweet spot for me
Thank you for your video. I'm 70 and had lasic eye surgery 20 years ago. Ever since, I've been very sensitive to bright lights, either fluorescents, LEDs, and all screens. I've worn tinted reading glasses and blue blocker glasses when watching TV/movies. They help tremendously, but now looking at getting better quality glasses like Gunnar.
I bought my brother in law and myself one. He's going to the IT department being surrounded by computers and I'm a heavy gamer. The brand i bought was Gunnar and the percentage was 65 percent. So far so good. It actually helped me sleep and as my for my brother in law, he's not feeling the eye strain or fatigue.
I think it's also worth mentioning that for filtering blue light most operating systems now support controlling and setting schedules for filtering blue light. In Windows it's called "Night light" in your system settings. Pixel/Android phones have this feature as well.
@@Pfromm007 Hi there. Anything helps. It's a reduction of the side effects we want to prevent after all. On some devices, you can determine the intensity. So for example, if you're gaming or watch movies, you probably don't want to block all of the blue light, but when working in an office, you can go wild with it, because there isn't much your word, excel or whatever, is needing here.
Another thing to take into consideration is with the rise of people on the road with newer cars or vehicles LED lights are a standard and many people upgrade to LED headlights. the problem with that is the LED generates blue light. Bluelight can also cause headache or migranes. So you may want to get Anti-Bluelight glasses if you are driving a lot when it's dark.
the problem is actually much simpler: they are too bright. the blue has nothing to do with it. if blue light was meaningfully harmful to us, we would have quickly evolved to avoid seeing it, what with the entire sky being blue and all.
Very interesting. Many hours on my iPad following lessons on different subjects. However , I am now more sensitive to the LED lights on the streets at night (new light posts) and those coming from cars. Thank you for the great information. I will see my eye doctor next month and be requesting eye classes with blue light and anti reflection protection.
Thanks for saying this. This is what I was worried about most, mainly because blue light and blue light glasses is still being heavily researched and debated.
Integrated blue light filters in my regular glasses were a blessing and curse. It really helped with my eyes but i felt tired all the time because i wore the filter 24/7 but you need blue light to wake up in the morning.
Thank you ever so much for undertaking this research and offering your invaluable insights. I actually purchased one for my sister from Ocushield, and they have been brilliant, particularly in terms of quality. Not only that, she used to experience migraines and headaches previously. However, since she started using them, they have almost disappeared. I conversed with the customer service, and they also provided the test results and reports, which were fantastic. It all revolved around the light spectrum and the quantity of blue light that is presently blocked.
I bought some Gunnar glasses on sale and they actually work, I definitely look goofy with them on but my eyes feel better. things are a little yellowish but you get used to them after a few hours
@6:44 .... 'higher wavelength...' That may be a bit confusing. More properly, it could be said as 'LONGER wavelength'. In the electromagnetic spectrum, higher is usually used as in 'higher frequency', but higher frequency would be shorter wavelength.
My Blue Blokz with yellow tint also help with headlight glare at night. I love these things, They are presecription and the only down side is how my coloring looks in a mirror I am always looking for my blush 😜

On the other hand, I need to see colors clearly. I've just spent hours over several days with my usual online eyeglass vendor, Zenni, unsuccessfully trying to get this information. I loved and recommended them for years but they've outsourced customer service and it SUCKS. I literally save lives, and you have likely helped me save more.

I realize that majority of people that are interested in these type of lenses are people That are in front of their computer screen all day or use their phones a lot, But there's another segment you missed and that's people that drive and have sensitivity to glare associated with headlights, as well as blue light. I'm looking for the best solution for driving to sharpen my eyesight I have bad vision in one eye and I find it hard to drive at night sometimes because of glare and fatigue could you recommend something that would sharpen vision while driving I love those blublockers I'm thinking about getting them. Side note remember that blublockers commercial hahaha!
This is great! Thanks for doing this. I started selling and recommending anti-bluelight glasses in 2015. I buy and try all and have found through the years that more and more "good" brands are standing by the claims of the "blocking ability" I've had 20 different brands tested by a military grade optics lab for Transmittance and Optical Density. The one's I sell are just $15.00 AND- I would like your comment on this: They are wrap types to Block the light that comes from the top and sides. For me, that's super important. Also- I can't stand the red color- I can't see in the dark(!) I found a Green color that's so incredibly pleasant and blocks 100% of 460- which the latest research is the most important wavelength and 99% of 400nm to 500nm. You're tips are great. Check out the newer research that's honing in on more benefits. Be Well! August
Have Gunnarr ones for good 8 years before the lenses developed fungus and can't be removed at all. But the build quality for it's price is stellar I should say. Sadly I can't find them anywhere again here in my country as I still need a replacement.

thanks for your video Dr. Without any responsibility Dr. I would like to ask you what brand of glasses for anti-reflection for both sides, transition, protection of blue light and I have correction in my simple or regular vision of 2.0 myopia. I pass in front of 3 monitors more than 8 hours a day. I would really appreciate his valuable recommendation under no responsibility. Thank you so much.
With A/R, transition, and blue-light protection with your prescription, you would do best at your local eye care clinic. Next would be a reputable online glasses, as long as you have a prescription.
So if I understand, when you get those with clear glasses, then you would pay a bit more to make sure they work, but when you need tinted glasses, then you can just choose what type you want? I have had clear glasses and I get more tired but I bought some yellow one, but it didn’t say anything about wavelength etc, but I guess they will work? I could buy from DoNotAge, but I chose some cheaper ones just to try out.
Hey Doctor! I’m looking for a pair of glasses to help with sleep. I don’t mind a tint, even a very extreme tint is fine as long as the lenses actually do their job in blocking large amounts of blue light-rather than claiming to block the blue light without any proof of doing so. Considering this, is there any glasses that come to mind? Thanks!
I have a rare problem: my eyes react strongly on both intense red and blue light from a computer or other sources. Are there any filter glasses for red light?
Are all variates of Gunnar glasses lenses made out of exactly the same material or similar, but with just one additional material that would change the color of lenses, in order words is the main base material the same? Also, based on the video I get the impression that wavelenghts that are higher that are higher than ~455nm do not effect your eyestrain, headaches, etc.
Dr Kruse neurosurgeon has weighed in on this and it affects more than sleep. The harmful effects of blue light are astounding. Im just trying to find out which ones I can use while driving at night.
Thanks for the video! Interested in these glasses for my son. My question is, if he gets a little screen time during the day when the sun is still up is their any benefit to him wearing blue light glasses at that time, in your opinion? Thanks!
Hey, are the Horus X glasses you recommended the best for sleep? I look at screens a lot and they feel healthy but my sleep is often an issue 😩 or do you perhaps know of any new glasses that might be even better now this video was 3 years ago 🤔 awesome video by the way, very informative 👍
Hi Doctor, can you recommend which one glasses in the market blocks out the most 455nm blue light while remaining tintless? Hopefully it comes with both front and back anti reflective coating as well. Thank you.
Tired of going to bed with dry eyes. Or waking up with very dry eyes that hurt to open. It's hard to wake up and takes a while before I can see clear again. But all the glasses I've worn are very tiny. They're either too tight of a fit, or the lens are just small. The ones I have gave me a serious headache Waking up as gotten so bad it hurt to move my eyes under my lids. My eyes watered themselves from the intense pain and solved it right away
@@DrEyeGuy Perhaps. I get dry eyes when I fall asleep and wake up. I know why it happens tho. Digital eye strain is something I need to start fixing. I was initially thinking of eye drops, but before I do that, I kinda wanna see how blue light glasses work alone and how long it takes before I no longer wake up with dry eyes. Or if it'll at least reduce the dry intensity I'm staring at a screen almost my entire waking life..
@@kelseyissastar I did! And I've been wearing them since February. I haven't gone a day without wearing these for at least 10h+ a day. At least my entire waking life. I haven't stared at a screen with my bare eyes in a very long time now They suck. One pair broke bcuz they're too tiny. Took them off and a handle snapped I'm wearing my backup pair now. They hurt the back of my ears. They're easily smudged. The glasses took about a month to adjust to and no longer hurt so much or squeezed my head I plan on buying a new pair soon. I'd go for Gunnar, but they're insanely overpriced. Not paying $100 for 98% bluelight blockers. $100 for some glasses? If I'm paying THAT much, I'd expect xray vision for clothes smh
Do you think Nike blue light glasses are good? They have blue light reducing anti-reflective a/r coating, they’re scratch and smudge resistant, and they have UV protection against sun and environmental light
I looked up those lenses. Because I can't speak Spanish, I'm not sure about the specifics of the lenses. I'm not sure if they have the number "400" because they block the lower wavelengths of blue light, which is ok, but you want to block higher wavelengths as wll.
Good morning, i have a Ray-Ban FRANK Evolve with Blue Light filter. Is it ok to wash the lens regularly? I mean everyday. But I dont use soap. I wash it with water only.
@@DrEyeGuy I've looked into it a few times over the decade and your video has re-inspired me along those lines. Hey Man I hope you read but I want to get blue light glasses that help with sleep and has that thing where you have the A/R coating from front and back with 86% which one should I get
Thank you so much for putting this together. I've been looking for information about this everywhere. If you don't mind me asking, between Blublox and Gunnar, which one would you recommend if budget is not a restriction? I've been budgeting for this for long because I get a lot of headaches after spending at least 10 hours /day in front of a screen + having a issues with the circadian rhythm.
So what would u suggest for people with extensive head trauma history? Bright lights and white lights extremely hurt and make me dizzy. I used to blackout from exposure to white light. Ive luck filtering my lights to pink and amber. Amber safety glasses has helped but im looking for something to help further. Thanks in advance
Thanks for the video! Is it safe to assume the glasses you link have the desired level of 455 or higher? I was looking at the Gunnar Riot pair for example. Thanks again!
I bought some EBDBluelight 360 lenses. I’m not sure how much they will block. I don’t see anything online. Is there an independent organization testing several lenses?
I have only seen studies with some lab tested coatings. I haven't seen any independent studies testing different lenses over the counter... I'll keep looking though.
I'm not sure, I haven't tried any. I don't know if any proprietary technology that they have. If they are really clear, I would assume that they are blocking in the lower wavelength category, but I'm not sure.
Question: What happens when you get blue light blocking glasses and use apps that change the color of your screen at sunset? I have f.lux on my computer and there are settings on my iphone that also change the color of my screens at night. I'm thinking that a lower percentage blue blocking pair of glasses plus the programs could block a high percentage but not sure if all these solutions are additive when it comes to percentage of blue light blocked.
I tried finding research about this and couldn't find anything specific about it. I'm not sure how additive it would be. You would get the benefit of blocking other blue light from your room with the glasses.
As of a couple of years ago, jack Kruse, MD, neurosurgeon - who has lots of info on blue light, sunlight melatonin and health effects, said the Iris program/app was definitely superior to f.lux
You note blue light is blocked and is right by UV light on the spectrum. Do they block UV light as well? I work by a wall of windows and understand UVA penetrates them, should I be blocking for this also and do most blue light glasses also cover the UV spectrum?
Awesome question! I would assume that most would Blick UV light, but I would still worry about the really cheap glasses. The "blue light" tester that companies send with their glasses so you can see it work, actually has UV light coming out of it. So the glasses are actually blocking UV light.
Natural blue light from the sun is actually really good for you and you need it. (It triggers vitamin D and serotonin production.) It's only the artificial blue light that you need to worry about.
My eye doctor says my eyes show early signs of glaucoma. Can this be due to too much screen time? I did get lasik eye surgery done years ago so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Sometimes my eyes will be so dry and tired from working on my computer all day.
Hey buddy, you just gained a subscriber 👍🏽 sorry to be that guy but I’m a trader and I’m on screens all day long ! I need the 455nm glasses you were on about but which is the BEST one. As you can imagine I need super strength 😂 thanks in advance
I like them... just my opinion though. In the other video he demonstrated the blue light blocking on his monitor. If he wanted all of the blue color blocked, he would need the dark orange/red glasses. You will still get blue light through these glasses.
Thank you so much for the info! So I am on a budget (currency exchange is very high in my country) and I am thinking of making custom-made blue-blocking glasses for sleep. Do you think if I just buy regular red-tinted lens glasses and bring them to a shop to coat with a blue blocker filter, would that work? What I am trying to understand is that does the 'red' give an extra kick to block the light or is there science behind it like the material of lens that has been made? would love to hear your expert perspective on this!
Yes, a red-tinted lens will block out a large portion of blue light. The quality of the lens will depend on many different factors however. What type of material, if there is an anti-reflective coating or scratch resistant coating.
I'm working on detailed, colour illustrations on an iPad. Sometimes for 12 hours a day. Recently I've been getting bad headaches. I don't want glasses that affect the colours on the screen but I would like to reduce the blue & amber light as much as possible. What do you suggest?
It might be (at least partly) the microwaves coming off the ipad, especially at close-range - they are well-known to cause headaches for many people (of course big tech will claim total safety). Often the symptoms of microwave exposure are additive - like the exposure level you used to be able to handle eventually causes an obvious problem. Twelve hours a day is a long time. I have plenty of personal experience with headaches from microwave devices. Terrible headaches. I don't use them anymore. My computer is wired, no wireless, and 15 feet away. I am on an extended keyboard with a large monitor and mouse. A setup like this could easily be used to do art, but is not very portable (:

Hey, are the Horus X glasses you recommended the best for sleep? I look at screens a lot and they feel healthy but my sleep is often an issue 😩 or do you perhaps know of any new glasses that might be even better now this video was 3 years ago 🤔 awesome video by the way, very informative 👍
Which brand blue glasses is best sir
Hi Doctor, can you recommend which one glasses in the market blocks out the most 455nm blue light while remaining tintless? Hopefully it comes with both front and back anti reflective coating as well. Thank you.
BluBlox is really good. Gunnar also have some good clearer glasses.
Blublox eye glass that blocks 455nm from and back anti reflective coating, can you share the Amazon purchase Link?

Tired of going to bed with dry eyes. Or waking up with very dry eyes that hurt to open. It's hard to wake up and takes a while before I can see clear again. But all the glasses I've worn are very tiny. They're either too tight of a fit, or the lens are just small. The ones I have gave me a serious headache
Waking up as gotten so bad it hurt to move my eyes under my lids. My eyes watered themselves from the intense pain and solved it right away
You could check out my video about waking up with dry eyes, there are some tips in that video.
Or if it'll at least reduce the dry intensity
I'm staring at a screen almost my entire waking life..
@@cqllel5186 did you get your glasses sweetie? I got some yellow tinted ones and they saved my eyes
@@kelseyissastar I did! And I've been wearing them since February. I haven't gone a day without wearing these for at least 10h+ a day. At least my entire waking life. I haven't stared at a screen with my bare eyes in a very long time now
They suck. One pair broke bcuz they're too tiny. Took them off and a handle snapped
I'm wearing my backup pair now. They hurt the back of my ears. They're easily smudged. The glasses took about a month to adjust to and no longer hurt so much or squeezed my head
I plan on buying a new pair soon. I'd go for Gunnar, but they're insanely overpriced. Not paying $100 for 98% bluelight blockers. $100 for some glasses? If I'm paying THAT much, I'd expect xray vision for clothes smh
@cqllel have they helped with your eyes??
Great video, which pair do you recommend to improve sleep if I’m on my iPhone and iPad before bed? Thank you 😊
If you want to block out all blue light, and don't care about a color difference, than go foe the yellow, orange glasses, like the horus x
Do you think Nike blue light glasses are good? They have blue light reducing anti-reflective a/r coating, they’re scratch and smudge resistant, and they have UV protection against sun and environmental light
Thanks for the video from Ukraine. That`s really helpful for me. Is Horus X good choice to improve falling asleep rate?
Yes it is, worth a shot for sure.
Hola, soy de México, y me gustaría comprar estos lentes en amazon: Game Factor GG400, me los recomiendas?, crees que realmente protegen la vista?
I looked up those lenses. Because I can't speak Spanish, I'm not sure about the specifics of the lenses. I'm not sure if they have the number "400" because they block the lower wavelengths of blue light, which is ok, but you want to block higher wavelengths as wll.
I bought a 99 clip on, but I’m sleepy on day hours. Do you recommend 30 or 60% for working all day? Thanks!
Good morning, i have a Ray-Ban FRANK Evolve with Blue Light filter. Is it ok to wash the lens regularly? I mean everyday. But I dont use soap. I wash it with water only.
Ar coating can blocks glare from screen computer like polarized
It can block glare, but it is different and blocks differently than polarized sunglasses.
Excellent information, and thanks! Have you considered offering your own line of computer glasses?
Thank you! I haven't yet. That might be fun to look in to though.
@@DrEyeGuy I've looked into it a few times over the decade and your video has re-inspired me along those lines. I used to be a producer for large media network, have done some online marketing, where my group was involved in cross-marketing people and products. Having expertise and a platform can make that a lot more straight forward. If you have any interest in tossing some concepts around, I'd be happy to share whatever I can that might be helpful.
@@jackoneil3933 That would be awesome, I'll have to put your name down as a resource. I'll start thinking more about it... that could end up being very interesting.
I believe Blublox has more science backing it with the technology they have, so I would probably lean towards blublox.
Is anti-glare the same as anti-reflective that's what the clip on say they are thank you
So what would u suggest for people with extensive head trauma history? Bright lights and white lights extremely hurt and make me dizzy. I used to blackout from exposure to white light. Ive luck filtering my lights to pink and amber. Amber safety glasses has helped but im looking for something to help further. Thanks in advance
Thanks for the video! Is it safe to assume the glasses you link have the desired level of 455 or higher? I was looking at the Gunnar Riot pair for example. Thanks again!
And then at the enda which is the best? I only need one....the best
Is that true blue light glasses yellow much more blocking blue light than blue light glasses clear?
Yes, yellow, orange, red will usually Block more blue light.
@@DrEyeGuy thank you doc.
what about peripheral blue light? because some of the glasses don't cover all the eye. Thanks
What about raybands PREDATOR 2 BLUE-LIGHT CLEAR?
thanks for the information, wondering what you think of the Ray Ban blue light clear glasses? thanks
I'm not sure, I haven't tried any. I don't know if any proprietary technology that they have. If they are really clear, I would assume that they are blocking in the lower wavelength category, but I'm not sure.
Very helpful video. Would u please do a review on Dave Asprey's (of Bulletproof Coffee fame) TrueDark Blue Light blocking glasses? :)
Great video! What do you think about 0.2 magnification on perfect vision ?
Just dropped some money on Gunnar glasses, I've spent far too much time the past 2 years in front of 3 monitors, about time I look after myself.
Thanks for the comment. Let me know how you like them.
I've been wondering about this. Thanks for this info!
You're Welcome!
Which glasses block 100% blue light? Can you go to glasses usa and get zero prescription but with blue light blocking?
the dark orange glasses get close to 100%
which brand is good for dark orange glasses Horous X kr gunnar??
@@janhavi7576 Thanks for that info. I'll check it out.
Which exact glasses were you wearing??
You note blue light is blocked and is right by UV light on the spectrum. Do they block UV light as well? I work by a wall of windows and understand UVA penetrates them, should I be blocking for this also and do most blue light glasses also cover the UV spectrum?
Awesome question! I would assume that most would Blick UV light, but I would still worry about the really cheap glasses. The "blue light" tester that companies send with their glasses so you can see it work, actually has UV light coming out of it. So the glasses are actually blocking UV light.
@@DrEyeGuy Going with Gunnar so they will be decent quality I'm sure. Thanks for the info and great vid!
@@nfc14g Good pick! Thanks!
Epic video, helped a lot. Thank you!
Hi, do the clip on ones touch the glass of the prescription lens, basically does a clip on risk scratching my prescription glasses? Thanks.
How are £5 amber tinted glasses? They feel comfortable in the way that when I remove them, my eyes feel stressed from all the white lights in my hous
Are there any blue light readers that are proven to work under $20??
Hey buddy, you just gained a subscriber 👍🏽
sorry to be that guy but I’m a trader and I’m on screens all day long ! I need the 455nm glasses you were on about but which is the BEST one. As you can imagine I need super strength 😂 thanks in advance
the best video so far!
I wish eyeguy would recommend different outlets to buy glasses … I’ve bought cheap glasses and they sucked
Hi! Are you meaning where would be best to guy glasses online?
Yeah@@DrEyeGuy
Hey Dr EyeGuy do you turn on the Blue Light Filter on your monitor and phone?
Yep, that can help as well. That still won't block the blue light coming from the lights in your home though.
Are these horus -x any good ??? One dude sayed they are tash the other dude sayed they are good
I like them... just my opinion though. In the other video he demonstrated the blue light blocking on his monitor. If he wanted all of the blue color blocked, he would need the dark orange/red glasses. You will still get blue light through these glasses.
Thanks for sharing this video. I am searching for something useful regarding blue light from IPad. Appreciate your thoughts 😂
My blue light 👓 glasses and have 'circles ' in the center of each lense...what is your comment on this?
Does all orange-tinted glasses are blue blockers?
@@DrEyeGuy You are the best! I was looking for this answer whole month! I wish you a wonderful life and happiness, Thank you so much!

Ar coating can cut glare from computer screen ?
It can, it cuts down on reflections from the computer screen on your lenses.
