  • In this video, I'll show you how to fix a GE washer that's making a scraping or screeching sound during operation. This is a common problem that can be easily fixed by bending the bottom plate back into position. For my current business ventures and newest content, please check it out here: www.thepocketwallets.com/
Remember to unplug your appliances from power and shut off any water before attempting any repairs. My videos are for entertainment purposes only and are not to be taken as repair advice. Please consult a certified appliance repair technician if you are uncomfortable doing DIY work on your appliances. Proceed at your own risk.
This issue is best fixed by taking a broom handle, or something similar and pressing the bottom plate downwards from inside, after removing the front panel. The bottom panel gets bend upwards from being moved with a dolly and then gets scraped by the moving parts on the bottom of the tub. Easy fix!
If you found this video valuable and saved you some time and cash, please consider donating to the cause! I’d love to be doing videos full time, bringing DIY info to as many people as possible, saving you all time, money, and the frustration of calling in a repair person or having to buy new appliances. Donations are always welcomed on my Venmo too @joshcobb4100 which all funds will go to making more, better videos! But really…I just hope this video helps someone out and saves them a headache!
Once I replace my income with video revenue I’ll donate the units I fix to the Veterans here in my area that could really use the help. It’s been a passion project for some time and now I’m working towards my goal of really helping not only my viewers but my local community.

Sir you are doing God’s work!!! Had to move my washing machine to the garage so I could paint the laundry room. After I moved it back it made that horrible scraping noise for 2 weeks until I ran across your video. Thank you so much 🎉

Amazing video. After removing the front cover, I realized it was the nut! It worked when I had it at home, then took it to the horse barn (for horse laundry) and it was making that horrible sound. Horses do not tolerate this noise. I had to transport it home and looked at everything. I cannot thank you enough for this useful video

Not to sound like a broken record but, thanks a bunch! I know my Whirlpools & their many offshoots but, this Hotpoint has driven me nuts and I always swore one day I'd get into it to figure it out. Glad I didn't have to waste a bunch of time on diagnosing it. Makes perfect sense! Those bottom panels are CHEAP!!!! Thanks again!

I just bought a home and was so happy to have this pretty new washing machine that came with it. But on the first wash, it sounded awful! I found your video, hit stop on the washer and fixed it just like you said and the rest of the wash was fine! So easy! Thanks a lot, this made my day!

OMG I can't tell you how much I needed this video. We moved a long time ago and I had my washer stored in the basement. Came time to use it and the scraping was so loud, we couldn't even talk in the house. (but it washed the clothes just fine).

Awesome hack. My used washer was delivered yesterday and I thought I got ripped off for a minute. Mine was scraping closer to the center so i put the machine on pause, pryed up on each side. Unpaused it and it was quiet after that. Thanks for your helpful video. One thing I’d add is when removing the front you have to push the clip up and in while pulling the front plate towards yourself. U struggled w that part for a good 5 or six tries before i got it right.

So what is the proper way to move it to avoid bending ?

    • @joshcobb4100

I would strap it to the dolly, that would keep the dolly from bending up the bottom.
