It's fascinating to compare this to her live 1975 TV performance of the song. You have to be amazed at her talent and discipline to be able to do this *four decades* later. The 1975 performance is Barbra at the peak of her ability, but here she brilliantly uses vocal phrasing in places she no longer can hit the difficult notes. Have nothing but respect for her. Also fascinating to see the hair, gown, and even the orchestration are very similar in style, nearly 40 years apart.
I thank Miss Marilyn Bergman for writing this amazing unforgettable classic "the way we were ' ive heard various covers of this song but nobody sang this song so perfectly sweet like Miss Barbara Streisand❤❤❤
Barbra Streisand's rendition of this beautiful song as a tribute for Marvin Hamlisch is extremely beautiful & touching .In a word SUBLIME.God Bless you Ms.Streisand.
This is a master class for all professional singers, or anyone considering singing professionally. If you preserve your gift early (especially opera singers or belters), it will preserve you in your twilight years. Barbra understood what Mariah, Aretha, Dionne and Whitney did not: their voices started showing wear & tear after 15-20 years. Aretha's wide range saved her, but by the 90's, the cigarettes had done their damage.
You're speak the true. Although Aretha is also a vocal master, I have to admit that cigarettes and alcohol have ruined her voice. Remember, what you do when you are young will affect your voice later on.
@@centerstagepops4046 Except for the last bit of instrumental under her very last held "were". That was a tip of the hat to his beautiful score for "Ice Castles."
She is so stunning and her presence just makes you not want to look away at her. Such a voice that can never be replicated. I admire her so much. Such an incredible all around talent.
I was so honored to meet Marvin Hamlish in 1994 just before Barbra's concert in Detroit. He was so kind to me and got Barbra to wave to me in the audience (I was so lucky to be in the 6th row main floor). He was so kind and down to earth. What a gifted and generous human. The world lost a giant when he left us!
Memories Light the corners of my mind Misty watercolor memories Of the way we were Scattered pictures Of the smiles we left behind Smiles we gave to one another For the way we were Can it be that it was all so simple then? Or has time re-written every line? If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me, would we? Could we? Memories May be beautiful and yet What's too painful to remember We simply to choose to forget So it's the laughter We will remember Whenever we remember The way we were The way we were
Beautiful dress. Barbra sounded so genuinely sad and grieving and hurt by her friend's passing so young. She sings with so much feeling, depth, sensitivity and passion. Each utterance strung together with such emotional range, urgency, and resonating impact. Nothing is wasted with Barbra. She gives her vocal expressions complete authority and power. What a treat. You feel like you have been touched by more than an artististic genius but someone who understands your pain and joy.
This is way I always choose to avoid knowing who’s gonna be performing for these things. This is one of my favourite songs ever and I didn’t know she was gonna perform it and perform it like this. From the moment she opened her mouth to the end she had me in tears. What a PHENOMENAL artist she is.
To me she's just The "G.O.A.T" I've been a Fan since the 70's unfortunately I never got the chance to see her Live I just couldn't afford a Ticket so all I have are Videos and I guess I'm OK with that so people say that Celine Dion has the best Voice and she's Great but to me Barbra Streisand will always be The Voice
Sweet tribute. Not Barbra at her best, to be sure, but heartfelt and poignant, and better than I remembered from when I first watched it. (I think that may be because she paled in comparison to Shirley Bassey that night, who blew the roof off the place with "Goldfinger".) Probably also the last time we're likely to hear Streisand sing at the Oscars.
She looked and sounded beautiful that night. I’m sure Marvin would have been very touched by his lifelong friend’s tribute.
The only person that is deserves to sing this song is the great Barbra. Its her song. She's everything
👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
Ladies and gentlemen the iconic ,talented, beautiful Barbara Streisand, what a woman
❤❤❤

So true, it's not about age. The vocal chords are a muscle, you have to train them daily.
The orchestration for this is really beautiful
Right! good ear!
This is the movie version

A beautiful spectacular tribute to your friend Barbra . You did Marvin proud and I truly believe he was listening . RIP dear Marvin .
Her voice doesn't have anymore the crystal clearness of youth but it's still legendary
I'll never forget how amazing she was on The Judy Garland Show... Wow. Man, that kid was a freaking prodigy.
Unbelievable that at her age she can hit those notes . Marvin deserved such a tribute from Barbra . He was so talented and understood Barbra
@2:42 Pure passion. Pure Barbra.

Suck Amazing Memories I get from listening to her sing
아름다운 노래입니다.
This sort of makes up for the fact that she chose not to sing it at the Oscars the year it won.
🙂
She was good as a singer but shes even better as a trump hater shes awesome

Blew the roof but sings everything the same.
Kind of a clanker at the end but it happens... Her prime was in the 80's.. wow... 👍👍
🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦❤️❤️❤️
Her voice aged as it should. She’s a real women, her voice sounds just like that now.
She messed her face up.
She's moving to Canada again, again if Trump wins again, again with Cher and Whoopi Goldberg again, again, what did Canada ever do to us.
too painful to remember
