Its crazy how people deemed her unattractive!! She is soo stunning to me
Still one of the greatest endings of a musical. I cried my eyes out the first time I watched it and everytime I see it I get the chills. What an amazing performer is Miss Barbra. A true icon.
As the critics all agreed, "Streisand gave the performance of a lifetime." Music aside, which was fantastic, it was a great dramatic, comedic performance. Brava Barbra.
She made quite a statement, yes she can sing, but she sure as hell can act too and do both brilliantly. Legend.
@USVIBL EGOT with an asterisk. One of them she received as an Honorary award and didn't win it in a competitive category.
That exquisite moment alone won her the Oscar. An actress using the song to express her pain and loss. Her vulnerability was connected to something very real. You feel it with her, as her voice soars. No one recreating the role could ever match that. A truly iconic film moment!
how to be sad crying singing acting and beautiful at same time
This performance was meant to be mimed like all musicals but she insisted on doing it live ...god she was right. ..still gives me shivers. ..absolutely peerless ...
It’s half live sadly, really wish she had performed the second half live as the first half while she’s crying is so moving. I understand it would be hard to move into ‘pretty sounds’ after giving such a raw performance of crying, so understand why the second half is mimed to her pre-recording but we should be honest too and say it’s ‘half live’.
No matter how many times I watch Funny Girl, I still feel as if I watched it for the very first time ❤️
I watched it for the first time a month ago. Such a beautiful movie 🤩. Despite I'm quite young I love Mrs Streisand from the bottom of my heart
I feel the same way I never get tired of this movie. Chemistry between her and Omar Sharif is undeniable. Beautiful movie
That "all right" mark at 0:51 blows me away every time -- such a powerful voice!
1:57 almost sounds like auto tune, but I know it’s not, which is so incredible! Especially since she sang this live! I’d love to meet her ❤️
I totally agree with you. What a sublime and beautiful part of the magnificent vocals in this song.
This closing scene of the movie clinched her Oscar win. For all the other reasons the Academy loved it, the Academy has always prized an ability to cry actual tears, on camera. These days, it's almost a lost part of the art of acting.
You don't need to cry to prove or convey a top notch performance. Crying is plus but if you show your true emotion for what the scene is asking for; you've done the job, you've done the work!!
@@nylemi1068 Granted. But. The Academy, to say nothing of audiences, has always prized and rewarded the ability of actors who can shed real onscreen tears. Because, you know, the depiction of true emotion by way of shedding actual tears is the signal achievement of an actually accomplished actor.
@@nylemi1068 agreed. Barbra's tears seemed authentic. Demi Moore turned on the waterworks so much for Ghost it seemed like old news.
I always thought Don’t Rain On My Parade was the moment that made it well earned
I used to sing this song at the top of my voice when I was 14 years old, Barbra you are incredible love you I used to think you were my mother when I was young, I was adopted when I was 9 days old, I wished you were my mom . I love singing I still do. You were and will always be my idol. God Bless you Barbra you have the most unique voice I have ever heard my my life.. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There was nothing like seeing that face and the tears and those beautiful expressive hands up on a 40 ft screen with everything else blacked out. It was very effective and something that stayed with me forever. It was mesmerizing to watch . Those tears as she sang. Omg. I was 12 and have never forgotten my reaction.
I used to get goosebumps still as a kid watching this finale.Barbra still the greatest of them all xxx
It is scenes like this that demonstrate why Streisand is a legend. At the AFI Awards, she explained that she recorded the complete song a month or so before filming, same as virtually all Hollywood musicals, and everyone liked it……except HER! She felt that it needed to be done live for emotional effect. The first part is sung live, the second part is lipsynched to the tape from the movie-score sessions. It was definitely not taken from her older My Name is Barbra record! Her voice had matured somewhat in those three years, and she’s ahead of the beat in the earlier version, consistently on-the-beat in the movie version. Either way, it’s an extraordinary moment from a unique performer with a legendary voice.
The second part were the vocals taken from "my name is BARBRA recording sessions with new musical arrangements. They didn't need to try and recreate perfection. Go ask Barbra yourself if you don't believe me!
@@sobebenjSo now that you’ve read her memoirs, you’ll know that the second part was pre-recorded, with Walter Scharf (the film’s conductor) a month before filming began. They certainly did NOT use an older recording for the picture. I don’t know how the rumors get started.
Still a jaw dropping performance. Those beautiful eyes, that voice. One of the best movies of all time!
One of the finest instruments ever, in the hands of a musical genius.
People like to sing Whitney songs. Yes, she had a beautiful voice. But,…. very few dare to attempt to sing Barbra’s songs because no on can do justice to them. She owns her hits!
There will never be such a perfect female vocalist like Barbra.......she's one special natural talented gal.
An incomparable performance....one to behold....she's crying through half of it....just stunning...rare
To this day nobody does it like her. Absolutely nobody. Barbra gives this song life.
I just saw Lea Michelle in the revival on Sat night..I could not believe that they kept this song out at the end..I was extremely disappointed. I'm not exactly sure why. It's the pinnacle of the movie and of course live.
@@pamelacolletti8553 My Man was not in the original Broadway version of Funny Girl., which is why the song isn’t in the current version of the Broadway musical.
The song was so personal to Fanny Brice, as it describes her love and devotion to her real life husband, Nick Arnstein. Since Fanny owned the song, Funny Girl producer Ray Stark (Fanny’s son-in-law) was not allowed to use the song while Fanny was alive, as Fanny simply would not allow the use of the song to anybody for any reason. It was only after Fanny Brice died that her daughter & heir, Frances Brice, allowed her husband to use My Man in the film version of Funny Girl.
@@pamelacolletti8553I’m sorry to hear that! After seeing Lea sing it on Glee, I can’t believe she had to sacrifice one thing for her dream role
Brilliant example of privacy in public. I don't feel like I'm watching a "performance", but a completely private moment I've happened to walk in on. Just chilling. Unrivaled.
This song was a totally private moment for Fanny Brice, as it described her love and devotion for her real life husband, Nick Arnstein. This song was Fanny’s signature song and was so personal to her that her son-in-law, producer Ray Stark wasn’t able to produce Funny Girl until Fanny Brice died because Fanny owned the song (or he would have had to make the film without this song if the film was made before Fanny’s death).
One of the greatest ending scenes - and musical scenes - in Film History.
Mrs. Streisand is the one. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🍾💫
OUR PRECIOUS BARBRA STREISAND
WITH ONE OF HER DIAMOND MASTERPIECES WHO BUILD THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES !!!
you deserved every moment of praise you got for this performance.
I was 23 when I first saw this film. It was 1968. I was, like everyone else, completely overwhelmed by her performance. No finer talent has ever been on the screen. This song made me cry. She was brilliant ! Thanks Barbra for years of joy ! Never again ! 💙
Best rendition of any song ever! She has done it again and again. Makes you "feel" every note and word.
No one will ever sing that song like Barbara
It should be illegal for one person to be so damn talented! Gives me goosebumps! Love Barbra!
She does the greatest version of
"One Less Bell/A House Is Not A Home", EVER!
I always thought Luther Vandross was the original signer. I heard Barbra sing it for the first time yesterday. You are correct, Barbra does the best version.
I totally agree! What about the song “Stoney End”! “memories like the corner of my mind” of Barbra Streisand songs’😏thank you for your blog canuckyukyuk!
The New York early albums are the greatest versions of the greatest versions. What a voice .
@@NicoleBest Barbra really takes you in her arms with this powerhouse hit .
Funny Girl is still her best movie 🎥 I still get goosebumps during Dont Rain On My Parade sequence! Of course, People, another great tune! Barbra is Fabulous and a Living Legend!
Brilliant performance actress singer comedian, the most beautiful strong gorgeous voice of Barbra Streisand God bless you . True gift. To the world. We love u bravo
Over fifty years ago, she had me at "I'm the Greatest Star". I've been one of her most loyal fans.
What an extraordinary performance. Her voice is elastic and just expands.
saw this as a teen in 68 and cried my eyes out and never forgot it. I love youtube for giving it to me again
I looked for this, I think I was seven when I saw it on tv, ...I remember looking over at my Mom and says wow! Really memorable, ...I think this songs about the dance couples do, sheesh the heart is so very tender and could physically break I wish people were kinder, I Love Barbara Streisand she's Beautiful!
One of my favorite moments in all of cinema history.
If ever a movie debut established an artist as a superstar overnight, it was this one.
To me my first real glimpse of that feeling was Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins
Just chills!!!! Noone can carry a note like Barbra and belt out a song so effortlessly the way she does!!! That's why her concerts were always sold out!! This is CLASS!!!! Beyond!!! Love her!!!❤
What a fantastic song. She is so beautiful in this scene. Live or dubbed, you know it's her. The emotion while belting it out.
My favorite part from the movie is when Barbra sings "funny girl" but "my man" is also incredible. Barbra is a true legend and the best vocalist in history (outside of the opera world). By the way, why isn't anyone talking about excellent video quality?
Barbra 💜💜💜
It is a lovely video. Which tune is called "funny girl?" I didnt know the movie had a title song
The greatest voice of all time! And the brooklyn accent enhances it! Love Barbra!
Her voice went beyond the heavens. This song brings tears to my eyes. Barbra belted it out in Funny Girl in My Man.
That's beauty.
I was so happy to see this on you Tube. I'm a black chick from Bed-Sty Brooklyn and she is it for me! Whenever this would come on tv I had to watch it and used to sing it to my ex boyfriend (now) trying to imitate her. She was me.... both from Brooklyn, both funny as hell, both sarcastic ,smart asses both went to Erasmus , both loved a handsome wild "cant be tamed guy."To this day when someone is slow or taking too long I say " Any day now,I'm aging over here!" My one regret was not being able to take my mom to see her....couldnt afford the texts and she has passed on but my mom had her albums and west side story . I know I sound a little crazy but "dont rain on my parade!" Love you Barbara
No, Denise, you don't sound crazy and I wouldn't think of 'raining on your parade'. Just remember, people who need people are the luckiest people in the world.
There is something about Brooklyn girls, my wife is from Brooklyn, too. I am from Queens so we have kind of an intermarriage. :) and a very happy one.
Barbra Streisand is just a one of a kind talent who transcends all cultures , genres and time periods. She truly is special!
I feel the same and I'm a white gay man from Canada but I feel the same for her and Whitney Houston. Talent and magic are colourless.
I'm crying, it always makes me cry, i love it so much 💖
I love her here takes me back. We were all crying in the movies. Just like her star 🌟 is born ending. Still #1
A brilliant and stellar moment in cinematic history. This will forever go down in history as one of the greatest moments ever in the cinema.
Her signature song; wonderful and flawless.
Still takes my breath away every time I hear her sing this song.
As a 12 year old girl I fell in love with Barbra Streisand while watching this movie in a theatre in a small town in Quebec, Canada in 1968. I adore her still.
First time I heard Streisand sing this song…. I got chills. What a voice.
I didn’t know what I was in for besides seeing her Hollywood debut
Nobody does it like Babs!! She's absolutely beautiful & her voice (as ALWAYS) is SIMPLY stunning!!! My mom who passed away few years ago LOVED her movies & she took me to see ALL of them!! Love you Barbra !!❤
No one compares to her with this song... totally mind-blowing!
Barbra's eyes...oh my....sooooooo gorgeous! THAT powerful voice too...
I have been a fan since I was 10 years old; 56 years and have watched Funny girl at least 30 x!
Absolutely love you! ❤
I am crying as I type this, Babs singing this song catapults me back to when I was TRULY in love! I'll never love like that again but when STREISAND belts out THIS SONG, I'm back in love again. Thank you, Barbra, thank you~
what a legend - just try singing this song like her - absolutely unique and astounding
I cannot even process the skill of this woman
My Man, great song sung by Barbra Streisand in her great movie Funny Girl 1968 William Wyler, my favorite Barbra Streisand movie along with another of her great musical movies Hello Dolly 1969 Gene Kelly, movies I would never get tired of watching.
This great song My Man is also sung in a Spanish adaptation by the actress and singer Sara Montiel in one of her best fiims La Violetera 1958.
I was 13 when I first saw this at the cinema, I couldn't believe what I was seeing (& hearing), electrifying & mesmerising - and very wonderful.
And my life was never the same.
Truly a voice from heaven. Nobody does it better.
Wow. Do you remember shaking with emotion, laughing in hysterics, and then crying in a movie theater? I do. It was this movie.
I like how more than half the song is fairly weak vocally but acted impeccably, because it shows the vulnerability through the weakness, but then come 1:27, the strength returns, as the vocals build and burst into assuring triumph of her feelings.
She is the queen ❤️❤️ pure natural talent
This song and scene cuts right to the heart of me. Barbara is a goddess❤
Oh, my man I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright, all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees some day?
For whatever my man is
I am his forever more
It's cost me a lot
But there's one thing that I've got
It's my man
Cold and wet, tired you bet
But all that I soon forget
With my man
He's not much for looks
And no hero out of books
Is my man
Two or three girls has he
That he likes as well as me
But I love him!
Oh, my man I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright, all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees some day?
For what ever my man is
I am his forever more
What a brilliant singer!
This is the best vocal performance of any kind that I have ever heard. I get chills when she hits the not at 1:56 everytime I listen to this and I've heard it at least 100 times. I can still remember the first time in the theater in 1968 when I was 12.
there are no words for how great her performance is here
She's one of the greats.
This is by far Barbras greatest song ! She sings this song with such emotion! There will always be one man in your life who will by your man that you know you can love like no other !!!! This is by far her best song I can really relate too this song !!!!!🧔🌹❤️💋💞
What a beautiful and very talented woman
How to win an Oscar in under 3 minutes!!!!! Cinematic and vocal BRILLIANTNESS!!!
I always thought it was Don’t Rain On My Parade that sealed the deal
Amazing. I can watch it over and over and over again. I love her the most beautiful talented, strong amazing beautiful voice. A gift from God that's Beautiful barbara streisand
I have watched this movie so many times and this song still gets me every time ❤️😢❤️😢
Just fantastic. One of my favorite moments of your acting/singing career. Just absolutely piercing. Thank you for the reminder!
Love love love this song and performance!
LOTS of feeling in a single performance, I really love it ❤️ it always moves me to tears, you're just wonderful 💖
One of the greatest songs ever created in the history of music.
Such an amazing singer holy moly
The Voice of a Legend!! 💙💙
One of my all time favorite songs. So emotional. Loved these two movies of her doing Fanny Brice. GREAT!
Absolutely amazing song. She is the best.
Something about this performance just breaks my heart in the best way possible and I watch it all the time just to feel it
Funny Girl was my introduction your amazing voice & acting skill. I saw it 3 times that weekend! Thank you for all your hard work.
Still brings tears to my eyes😢 Barbie fantastic....she sings from her soul and you feel it!! What a gift!!❤️
I just loved this brilliant I loved her for many years she's amazing xx
When she hits that “alright” my soul left my body
There's something I particularly like about the way this scene is shot. Her dress is relatively simple and dark black, such that we can almost only see her head and her hands. There is no costume to this. It's just her. As she has grown as a star, she no longer needs to perform a character, but rather, showing the depths of her true self makes for her greatest performance of all.
Perfection♥️ The quality of the video. Barbra looks so beautiful.
This scene never fails to give me goosebumps and tears. I love Barbra so much.
Thank you for this very vivid and clear video! Awesome! I love this emotional song by Barbra!
WOW! your acting ability absolutely ...!!!and the voice that acts and feels. you are my favorite singer and you did capture the emotion!
Barbra will always be my all time favorite, from back in 1972 in Spanish House at Wilson College where we'd blast her rendition of Stoney End on my 2nd floor record player & synchronize it with another player on the 1st floor. Barbara still gives me goose bumps. Hands down the best vocalist ever! Love you Barbra.(And your politics!)
I’ve been watching Funny Girl again after many years. I saw it when I much younger and immediately fell in love.. She was GORGEOUS and I was captivated, and still am.. Love you during one of the greatest performances ever.. Barbra.
Iconic film, thank you for posting this.
Beautiful song and voice
My God she can sing. Babs is one of my favorite singers
did you know that Barbra specifically requested to sing this song live during filming so that she could properly caption the emotion? what a pro. what a sensational performer.
Just amazing 🏴👍
Barbra est vraiment extraordinaire, divine. Merci
I’m fairly certain it is only the beginning of the song. You can actually hear where it goes from the on set recording to a studio recording.
@@thephantomjedi3729 I thought that, too.
She recorded only the first part live. The chorus (for some strange reason) was taken from the previously recorded album "My name is Barbra" (1965). Compare the two chorus versions. They are identical, only that a richer orchestration was added in for the movie.
