    This will my next up cycle project - I found a skirt at a thrift shop that was way out of style and too long but was made from a great fabric. I ripped out the waistband and now have a big tube with side seams and hem already sewn. I can shorten it from the top and use the excess to create the waistband, following your directions. Thank you for the great tutorial!

    Thanks for this tutorial! I love the clear directions, and getting to watch you do each step as you describe it is really helpful. I just got some really cute fabric and don't want to make my usual skirt pattern with a zipper and fully interfaced waistband since I'm a teacher and spend a lot of time in awkward positions/on the floor. This elastic back waistband will still look formal enough for work and will give me a little more freedom of movement. Thanks again!

    You can also make a button hole on the inside of the front waist band, sew a button in there (Further from the back waist band than the button hole is) and have the elastic come out the button hole. Use button-hole elastic and make it longer than it needs to be. The elastic can then be buttoned onto the button and the size can be adjusted as the child grows (Or the adult fluctuates!) So you have it fit for longer.

    Excellent! Just thinking about doing this for a skirt-top combo I'm making, and I'm wondering how a sort of shirred look might be...For example, what if you made the waistband a bit wider and sectioned into three elastic channels, for three narrow strips of elastic? I'm doing the top-skirt combo for my son's super-casual, Vegas-chapel wedding.

    I love this! Super helpful! Do you mind sharing how long the fabric should be for both the front and back panel? I know it varies for adult/children, but could you give a rough guide? The back waste band is 1/2 the waste circumference plus 1, but how long should the fabric for each panel be? Thanks so much! Can’t wait to make this!

    I need things written out, in case anyone else does too:
    Front waist band: 1/2 waist measurement + 1"x 3 1/2 " (or however wide you want it to be)
    Back waist band: width of fabric for skirt x 3 1/2 ("")

    This video saved my life! I did one earlier with my own pattern and I cut elastic too short and didn’t leave back big enough to accommodate stretch of elastic so I literally cut a 9” elastic band on a 10” piece of fabric and it has NO stretch! Super fail 😂 Now I know, leave it much much bigger then front side 😂 THANK YOU

      Brittany J Jones Ok so I made this. My girl has a 20” waist. So I made a 20” front piece and a 20” back piece. I gathered front to 10” and elastic back to 10” with an 11” elastic (for seam allowance, it was WAY over gathered in back. I had to cut 6” off and have a 3rd seam line. Am i doing this correctly? 10” to gather seems like a lot

    • @brittanybeauty916
      @brittanybeauty916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ETA i cut 12” off (folded) and still could’ve cut 2 more off. It’s a cord that’s thicker so maybe that’s why? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @BusinessOwl
      @BusinessOwl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you gather the skirt fabric, only gather it to the same width as your front waistband. If the skirt fabric is too narrow now, just loosen some of the gathering until it matches the waistband.

    Please make a tutorial on a no zipper circle skirt to fit over wide hips or big booty using non-stretch fabric ...
    Your baby girl is too cute! I have teenagers are busting out every which way. They love twirly skater (circle) skirts that cover up only if they are made from lightweight cotton, rayon or chiffon prints, but naturally, not the easier to adjust stretch fabrics ...
    Thanks!
