It's only fitting, Voyager was part of that era as well as Deep Space 9 so this being a sort of send off to all three shows from the Next Gen era was cool even though Janeway should've been the one to give her the promotion in my view but it was still awesome to know Tuvok was still alive.

He's basically a jerk with a heart deep down that knew she had what it takes after working together before the season even started and Seven never quite realized this until Tuvok showed the message. It made a lot more sense now just why he kept her as his first officer and how they can actually work together when on the same page despite their arguments. If he truly resented her, Shaw would've longed kicked Seven out and get her transferred.

Now THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is how Star Trek absolutely annihilated Star Wars in one big aspect this season (among others): strong female characters. Star Wars touts themselves for diversity and inclusion, but nearly every time (in movies) it has been force-fed, shallow, and done with no legitimate purpose other than to check off a box. Star Trek, on the other hand, which has a good track record of this, once again accomplished this feat in S3 of Picard organically, logically, and with grace. Seven of Nine is arguably one of the most relevant characters of the last 25 years, well established, ever-evolving. The audience has been in her corner every step of the way and the audience legitimately let out a thunderous cheer for their old friend to not only make Captain, but be confirmed as the successor to the legacy of the starship Enterprise. Absolutely well-earned and deserved. THAT'S how you elevate someone. Nothing was handed to Seven. Even moments before her promotion, she had doubts about her place in starfleet, but stood tall and confident ready to justify every action she took. That's a Captain. She earned every inch of it. The same goes for Raffi. Two legitimately badass females leading the command crew of the Enterprise, who fought through hell to get to those positions, and are believable in the roles....what a revelation. Star Trek: Legacy, if Terry gets the green-light, will be a hell of a ride with Seven in the chair and Raffi as number 1 trying to keep a lid on Jack Crusher lawlz
The same applies to Jeri Ryan herself. As an actress that has been involved in the franchise for over 25 years now, she always respected the fans and the love they have for Star Trek. Her reaction to the promotion is clearly genuine and the culmination of all of her hard work and respect for what she did starting out working alongside the first female starship Captain in Kathryn Janeway. Having Tim Russ there as Tuvok to bestow the promotion gave it that little extra that would give anyone remotely familiar with Voyager tears. Now she gets to take it one step further and join Shatner and Stewart in an elite club of those who are bestowed the honor and responsibility of commanding the starship Enterprise. "The book she writes is going to be great".

I was there right up to the throwing away and rewriting of the book.
That reminded me this is a secret hideout production. They hate writing characters who stand by rules and regs…. But this is where they ultimately fail to understand what they writing for. They are writing for members of an institution that role every emergency service and scientific department into one machine called Starfleet. It need rules… and as Kirk once said, ‘We don’t send robots into space because rules are meant for perfect situations. But you won’t find perfect situations to apply the rules to. That’s why we go with our machines and computers. To make the situation fit the rules, or the other way around.’
Secret Hideouts infatuation with throwing the book away and rewriting it is the antithesis of respecting the last generation. Because the last generation was given a book too… and they added to and adapted it. They didn’t toss it away like garbage,

I've always loved Seven; Jeri Ryan is a brilliant actor. Seven's overwhelmed with by emotion, yet remains so understated and intense it's remarkable. Shaw of all people makes sure Seven finds her true place in Starfleet as a Captain. It starts out sounding like an insult yet is the highest of praise: "She's reckless, she's unrelenting, doesn't give a damn about protocol or procedure, however She is brave, and loyal, and the book that she writes it going to be great, and the rules that she breaks, maybe they were broken to begin with". Watching the recording Seven finally understands Shaw. She believed he selected her as First Officer to torture her as an ex-Borg; the truth is very different. People are complicated. Shaw has PTSD because of the Borg, yet he holds Seven in the highest regard. Seven's journey is remarkable; that entire journey has led her to this point. The last thing Seven would have ever imagined 20 years ago is leading a Starship in a massive battle and using what the Borg did to her against her will to combat and help defeat the Borg as all that remains of Starfleet. Seven thinks she's going to be told she's being thrown out of Starfleet for what she's done, but that the real reason she'll be thrown our is because of Who she is, and instead she's made the Captain of the Enterprise G based on her character, her heroics, and the recommendations of Shaw. That's some incredible storytelling. There is greatness here; I'm deeply grateful for the remarkable writing and acting. Todd Stashwick is a great actor and is amazing as Shaw; don't take my word for it, Jeri Ryan has repeatedly said it in interviews and the two have already become very close friends.

You long for those moments.... And you wonder if they ever will happen and when they do happen..... It is profoundly moving.
7 had a weight on her shoulders that very few people can possibly as she worked her way into Starfleet.
Remember she was rejected by Starfleet at first. To finally win the the approval of a man who hated what she had been was the last hurdle she needed to clear.

Shaw, even with borg PTSD, shows how humanity in that Era has overcome the things Roddenberry said were a thing of the past. That shows the quality of the writing, they didn't have to EXPLAIN it, just show it and let the audience and characters react and relate.

As she and I have both aged, her sexiness has done nothing but grow. Is that even possible? Well, Seven/Jeri Ryan remove all doubt. Very well done. CBS/Paramount+ need to keep the momentum rolling. Shows take too long to debut. They need to step up and get the Capt. Seven era off the ground in 2024. She will be great, I have no doubt. I also believe Speleers will be great on the crew of Titan.

Seven's entire arc this seasons is textbook how you replace the old and bring up the new. If they had just dropped her in at Captain of the Enterprise on the first episode fans would of likely raged like crazy at it. But by giving her Shaw, a character she had to earn the respect of, and a character the fans could really love, they allowed her to grow into this position naturally through action and bravery. We loved the character already from Voyager, but that character wasn't ready to be a captain, and even through-out Picard she wasn't. Shaw's influence molded her for the captain's chair just like Janeway's influence restored her humanity. Now if they continue this with Star Trek Legacy, they can further grow her character, and her interactions alongside Jack will be interesting considering both of their Borg histories.

What makes this scene so powerful is while others supported and encouraged her, Shaw is the one who gives her what she always wanted.
    Recognition.
While others have looked at her with pride, respect and admiration, he saw her. This is a pure "I see you" moment

Jeri Ryan was, and remains, one of the most beautiful women in the world. ❤. IMHO of course.

Not just a Captain, Captain of that very ship, which then was Rechristened into the New Federation Flagship following the Enterprise-F’s Retirement to the Fleet-Museum.

Hopefully Kate Mulgrew saw this. From what we’ve heard she wasn’t exactly too professional towards Jeri Ryan back in the day. Knowing this was likely done with a tennis ball and someone reading the line off screen, Jeri Ryan did a remarkable job conveying all her emotions from embarrassment, sadness, respect and appreciation all without saying a word. This is “just a sci-fi show” and as such, will likely never get the respect of Hollywood award shows - even though Hollywood is littered with every stupid superhero movie imaginable right now. Jeri Ryan is the real deal. She is a legitimate actor. Well done.

Actually Todd read that play back to her so she saw him when she read it. I believe I also saw an interview that Jeri actually did cry during that scene. Editing is a wonderful thing.

Yeah. That said they buried the hatchet apparently. Kate Mulgrew agreed that she wasn't being remotely fair and while they may or may not be friends they're on good terms now.

UGHHH this scene beginning with Enterprise - D and Titan hits so much harder knowing Titan becomes Enterprise - G and seeing them side by side like that is UGHHHHHHH TERRY MATALAS so good

Good for Seven! Jeri Ryan took the role and ran with it. There is quite a character arc here that would not have been possible without Jeri's work to make the character more 3D. She could have just been the hot chick, but she made it more. Her being cast in this series is proof of that.

Her character is seriously one of the best aspects of Picard recently in addition to having the TNG staff there.... But that boldly going into a battle is what Star Trek needs far more of... That sense of danger and adventure

Shaw's death added gravitas to the series no doubt but it's too bad he's dead. He had an interesting personality. Had his weaknesses. Was an ass at times and arrogant but honest and direct. Had a good sense of humour, was resourceful, courageous, and took no crap from anyone. Why did it take them so long to give us a good new ST character.

I've never been in the military but I actually like following the rules except for when they are ridiculous or don't work for the situation, which is bound to happen sometimes. But in some cases someone has already figured out the best way to do things and there's a reason for the rule.

@@sarahberknerI’m a big rule follower myself to be honest but I will admit that some rules seem absurd or are absolute ball aches to comply with 😅

I so called it with the transporter being used to get rid of the Borg in the under-25 yr olds, and also weeding out the Changelings as well. And I love the face-to-face reunion of Seven and Tuvok, it's come full-circle.
