Most anticlimactic scene in Trek history. Seven reactivating the Borg should have become a nightmare horror movie scenario for the Romulans. They should have had to fight their way out, losing most of their forces in the process and the likelihood of their success should have been in serious doubt. Absolute waste.

I wonder if the problem is that the writers are not Star Trek fans. One of the qualifications for making decisions about story lines/writing should be that they are followers of the Trek universe.

While that would have been a better story to be sure. It is a little more realistic this way. Romulins are Methodical they would not have have started the salvage operation without a failsafe in place. the idea of a cube full of drones reawakening out of nowhere is a nightmare Scenario That would have made a sweet episode or two. But no one would have been willing to work on the cube unless there were a foolproof way to deal with the drones.

We know for a fact that borg can survive in the vacuum of space, we also know they have homing beacons and that the borg have transporters. Sevens reaction to them being sucked out should not have been anger or fear, it should have been a smirk, a tilt of her head and the simple utterance of "resistance is futile." as the borg activated and proceeded to begin being beamed back onboard all over the ship by the thousands.

They can survive in space and walk on the surface of ships, sure... But how are they supposed to counteract the momentum of getting sucked out into the vacuum of space after the Borg Cube gets depressurized? There's no air in space to help you push back and redirect your momentum. They're basically going to be alive and drifting into the void until their technological implants no longer have the capacity to function and their biological side dies from the lack of nutrients and support. It's a fate far worse than an immediate death.

Seven got re-assimilated, basically becoming the Queen of her own little Collective. This should have been a major character moment for her. She's risking her individuality and re-joining the Borg. She felt the Collective (her small one) again for the first time in decades. This event could lead to so many interesting stories. Though, I doubt it will be explored in the next season.

Additionally transporters are a thing, so if they're fine they would have been transported back aboard or tractor beamed. My point is, the entire Borg story-line went no where. The entire show was pointless. Artificial Intelligent Cthulhu Gods waiting for younger A.I.'s to call them to be saved... killing organics in the process? Why? Why not just stick around and kill the organics as they evolve? Why after being 'summoned' by the younger ones were they dismissed by the signal interruption instead of just popping through like "Here's Johnny!"? I propose that the Borg surviving and arriving would have shown the Cthulhu A.I. the ultimate expression of Organic and Synthetic merged into perfect unity. It makes for a better story than Picard's ending. Everything's fine because he made a call before the Romulans got there. Red Tape saved the day. Every major storypoint from the season was ripped off from better sources materials and canon was thrown out the window.
Data's entire positronic brain being recreated from a single neuron (OOOOKAY, I'll rebuilt my computer with just a CPU pin to start from), Soong having a never before mentioned or heard of human child, Romulans being able to reach high level rank without someone once ever testing to see if they're Romulan or Vulcan (transporting once would have been enough to be discovered), The super secret Intelligent/secret police being the front for an even secret-er police force, The Federation needing a slave race when they have massive industrial replicators for menial tasks, Hell even the concept of ship yards on Mars instead of an orbiting facility where ships can be built in a micro gravity environment makes more sense... especially since most Federation ships don't land on planets. All of these things make no sense. They shit the bed hardcore in writing. Nothing made any sense. And most of it had been done better elsewhere.

You can make an argument that those Drones in first contact were specially equipped for that. It would be very borg'ish to only equip Drones with neccesary implants. Why else has the Cube an atmosphere?
But you can call it bad writing aswell. As always it depends on your intentions. Do you want this series to work, or not?
Both is perfectly reasonable for me. I'd like it to work, because I actually enjoyed it. Even though it was far from perfect. As TNG and Voyager and DS9 and the movies ... Discovery actually sucked in my oppinion, so I understand the feeling of not wanting a scene to work.
To the Cthulhu AI God thing I'd just remind you of how the godlike Ori from another galaxy were unable to manifest their power in the Milky Way galaxy in Stargate, because the godlike ancients of the Milky Way didn't allow that. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a no interaction rule for super advanced species, similar to the first directive of Star Fleet. The Q continuum might want to have a word with them, if they wiped out organics actively. If lesser beings reached out to them and forcefully opened a gateway to this other dimention, leting them enter through some sort of backdoor it might be a different story.
It's the intention thing again, it can work, but it doesn't have to and granted it doesn't make perfect sense on it's own.

They go through this whole sequence of Seven wanting to fight back by making a micro collective to fight the Romulan presence on board but the writers decided that the entire plot point should be jobbed out seconds after it comes to fruition because one Romulan opened a window.
Shame Borg Drones couldn't function in a vacuum and without any gravity. If they could then in Star Trek: First Contact a handful of Borg Drones could have gone out on the ships hull to the Deflector Dish and built an Interplexing beacon to send a message to past Borg in the Delta Quadrant.

Why is Seven a lesbian, rather than writing in a new lesbian character...because it is more dramatic. Why did Seven murder a bunch of people, rather than ask Picard for his help to arrest the woman for her crimes...It's more dramatic. How did Riker, an acting captain, get the biggest, fastest and most powerful ship, plus an armada of starfleet ships...don't worry about it, it is more dramatic. I could go on, but you get the point. For nostalgic reasons, I love the fact that there was a Picard series, but, let's face it, it was basically the equivalent to a teenage garage band: The stories lacked consistency and continuity, the series was all over the place, and although it had great potential, it was never realised. S2 ended with this huge reveal (I won't say what to avoid spoilers!), but instead of continuing with the story they had set up in the series finale, S3 focuses on something entirely different and the reveal is never mentioned again.
This scene could have been spectacular and, as many others have commented, an interesting development for Seven in her journey, but it was totally missed. So many plotholes. Seven had taken control of the entire ship but couldn't prevent the Romulans from opening an airlock! Really? Not to mention the fact that we know Borg can survive in space so she could have just beamed them back on.

Ohhh... I just LOVE 7 of 9... This scene more than any before or since, proved one thing. That 7 of 9 was destined to be the new borg queen. And only for the few short seconds in this video was she actually the borg queen that could have been. The writers really fucked up when they teased us with this and then didn't follow through.
7 of 9 as the new borg queen would have been a terrible and a formidable opponent of starfleet because of her insider knowledge of exactly how starfleet worked and thought. This is because of her years of experience onboard the USS Voyager where she was freed and liberated from the borg collective.
In this scene she interfaced and merged with the queen's technology and she interfaced with the thousands of remaining borg crew members onboard the captured borg cube held by romulans. The cube that they referred to and called "The Artifact." In her brief encounter with the remaining crew members. 7 of 9 rejoined and created a whole new collective that could easily outgunned, out maneuvered and completely outpaced the romulans that held them captive. The only reason that the surviving borg cube crew members did NOT do so before, is because they had all been simultaneously been severed from the mind of the borg collective.
The writers really took a deep-dive into the shithole and really took a concentrated and constipated dump on this one. The things that could have been, and the things that could have carried this series into a new realm of possibilities, all lost and flushed with the shitty ending that completely negated this part of the series when Seven interfaced and became the new borg queen... I was so pissed off and sickened by that overdressed and super, sickening sweet ending to the picard series...

    • @alaskanfrogman
      @alaskanfrogman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@gigmond No... he did not. All he did was take the mess of all 3 seasons and quickly threw a fantasy ending together that didn't make any sense at all. They had a new borg queen when 7 interfaced with the cube. Then they ignored her again by taking the "Dr. Jarati Character and joined her with a borg queen from a different timeline.
7 of 9 had it all. She was filled with key insider information against and about "the mighty federation..." As a new borg queen, she could have gone in one of 2 different directions... 1, be an even MORE of a dangerous threat to the federation, or 2, be a powerful borg ally with them because she's not just a borg, she's the queen of that borg collective in the cube... but still the individual that was freed by captain janeway in the delta quadrant.
Instead, they came up with that shit-show ending with the borg queen that had somehow miraculously reassembled herself AFTER Captain Jean Luc Picard destroyed her biological components and killed her electronic components in the Star Trek: First Contact movie. From that point on, the borg collective was no more because the entire and whole of the collective was run and created by the only borg queen in existence when she traveled back in time and Picard chased her through the temporal wake when he followed her borg vessel. He KILLED the existing and ONLY borg queen onboard the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-E. By killing the queen, the borg ceased to exist because the only brain center that it had was for all intent and purpose, dead
But yet SOMEHOW, she managed to end up back on that borg super-cube where she cannibalized the crew and consumed them and reassembled herself. How the HELL did she get away from Picard when her only mechanical remains were still on the Enterprise-E? It was dead because Picard killed the still functioning electronic borg mechanics of the former queen cyborg. It was not able to function without its biological components because it had a humanoid brain that powered its intellect.
That writer created a fantasy that is impossible to exist and was pure bullshit. The writing completely fragmented the story line and plot and was so idiotic stupid that any 5th grade student could have done a far better job telling the story.
Where was Dr. Jarati/borg queen from the future? She swore to be their ally, but when the OLD borg queen somehow and miraculously reassembled herself from broken and dead parts, the NEW Dr. Jarati/Borg Queen was nowhere to be seen. They didn't even mention or bring her up. Her future borg tech could easily have wiped the floors of our solar system using the old borg queen and its entire cube. But instead, the "Dr. Jarati/Borg Queen" completely vanished, never to bee seen or heard from again in the entire series. I could give you detailed breakdowns of everything that was done and how it was screwed up and the show screwed over. But I think you get the idea from this...

The way this should have played out was, they blew them into space, and seven, with possibly a bit of a chuckle, said, you'll have to try better than that, and started transporting them back inside. Or a variation maybe that the guy says they are venting them into space, and she says, drones can survive in space, but the transporters are offline, the ships regeneration matrix will have them operational in 30 seconds, and then she beams them all back, and has a lot of new romulan drones.

and they don't make sense...how are they better than tactile interfaces? And why does a 20+ year old borg cube have them? Trek has had a lot of tech that makes soo much sense that it eventually became a reality but I don't ever see a future where we will use interfaces that we can't actually touch. The tech serves no purpose except to "look cool".

Putting her through rough training and education. A pity they booby-trapped the cube. That would have been the Romulan's doomsday right there.

The borg used to be a force to be reckoned with. I remember in TNG where the Borg were utterly unstoppable and had no single leader. It was truly a collective.
In Picard, they were a joke. You could remove the borg from the story and you would still have the same story. There was almost zero point to it.
What would have been cool is for Picard to commandeer the Borg cube and it would be his ship to command. This is something we’ve never seen before and we could further explore his fear for the borg. But no. Instead it just crashes uselessly on a planet...

These Borg may not be dead, and the Romulans releasing them into space might have simply slowed down what 7 of 9 was going to do. There are still borg on the planet who are probably still connected to the local network of the ship. I am sure they are more than capable of fixing their ship and fetching their fellow Borg. The androids probably wouldn't mind helping them.
