At the very least gross negligence which would at least be some prison time. The arrogance of the managers “we will do it ourselves” by which they mean they will get some worker who they couldn’t give a single solitary f**k about to risk his life to save them multiple tens of thousands of pounds then Chuck him a couple of hundred quid. Honestly, I’m my mind. I think they need at least 15 years inside and to be Permanently black listed from any position of authority ever again by HSE. Sadly even a shitty gross negligence charge likely resulting in a max 5-7year sentence is too much to ask for apparently.

Just Google: The Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire. Over a hundred women were burned to death because the employer didnt enforce safety regulations and locked the fire exit to prevent stealing which caused many to jump to their deaths from a burning building once a fire broke out.

I'm a survivor of this. I was sent on a three hour round trip haul to go pick up a pallet and a half of brick coping and pavers. I was told it wasn't that much and I was to take one of the company's F150's. Even the warehouse guy mentioned before I left that he thinks I should take an F250 but bossman disagreed and wanted me to take the smaller truck. How this saves money or makes any sense, I have no idea. So I get to the factory and head out to the yard, hand a worker my PO and he drives off in his forklift. He brings me the order and I quickly realize things are getting sketchy. I loaded it the safest way I could. Put most of the weight on the axel and spread out the rest as flat to the bed as I could. I hugged the right lane going 5 under on my way back. About halfway back my right-rear tire blew. I slowed down and tried to stop on the shoulder but the soulder was really small and ended in thick wet muddy grass. I was going about 65 when my tires dug into the ground, truck slid sideways and I rolled over a full rotation (luckily) and a couple bricks shot in the cab. Had a couple minor cuts on the back of my head but was fine. I was on the interstate again the next day.

Plus he’s got the extremely calm, cool and collected vibe we know he earned as a Navy Seal. He doesn’t go for fake emoting or overdramatization. The guy is a genius just by being himself but I’ve never detected a hint of ego or self importance. I’m happy he’s found TH-cam success.

that second story reminds me of a pool I used to work at as a lifeguard when I was a kid. I'd worked as a lifeguard at other pools for about 2 years at that point. This new pool I worked at was in a water park and had a giant filter that filtered water through giant holes (like, a kid or small adult could easily fit into it) in the very bottom of the pool (18 ft down) covered with grates. This hole was so dangerous that, even with the grates, we had a zone where people weren't allowed to swim under the water around them just to make sure no one got too close and got their hair stuck in it. So one day boss comes in and asks us to check the filter cover to make sure it's on right because some patrons have said it looked broken, and I'm like "sure, I'll go turn the filter off" and they were like "no, we'll have to shut the pool down for a bit if we turn the filter off, just check it while it's on and tie your hair back, that's what the grates are for"...you know, the grates, those things we're checking to make sure are still on right. So I'm like "not doing that..." cause if they are on right that's grate, but if they *are* broken I'm getting sucked into the filter hole and I'm tiny enough I'd get sucked down pretty far and definitely be in bad shape, if not very likely dead, by the time they got me out. So then my boss yells at me but like i don't care enough to die over it and then later I see her asking some kid to go do it and I run over and I'm like "this is how people die". So then she turned the filter off and we checked the grate. It was broken.

I've heard of people dying from wave pools for similar reasons. You were smart not to do that.
Usually though and terrifying enough, people can be sucked in and electrocuted, since the wiring that helps move the waves are behind the water system. I remember hearing about it as a child and still fear it to this day. Whenever I see people going past the point they're not allowed to, I have the image in my head of them being sucked down.
Seriously though, I'm not sure why people are stupid enough to risk that. I'm glad you used your head and didn't go (while also helping someone else).

I do this with my aquarium project intentionally to cut way down in post edit. Its easier to redo the recording than figure out where to stitch video. Effectively adding in text and titles take an hour about including audio screening for issues. Set to render and come back 30 minutes later and review the video, I mean watch the whole thing. Seems many don’t bother doing this important step.
Id believe you if I actually saw moving backgrounds and video from the events. That would take time. Sure there is researching stories. Its not all day every day efforts. At best I can see his script creation to have challenge. It certainly isn’t tied up in editing adding the time. If this is the case he needs to record each story in one take. Either way I see him putting out one video a week at this point. Again as far as I can tell he hasn’t noted this is his job but for fun. I think what makes the first story so horrifying is that it shows how fragile our lives can be and how unforgiving the world can be. Just a momentary error, one that would've been hard to see coming, ended with Thomas in free fall.
I think people like to criticize in cases like these because it helps us feel like it could never happen to us, but everyone makes unforeseen mistakes and has momentary lapses in one situation or another. That's why it's important not just to be careful, but kind as well.

    • @narusasu7279

That's a rare but very insightful viewpoint you got there. I was previously on board with the people who were criticising the circumstances that led to the first unfortunate event before reading your comment. But you're completely right, we sometimes just do stupid things/commit mistakes because, we just do! We're not perfect ourselves so it's not fair for us to always criticise them. Thank you for putting that point out.

My ski's tied across the top of my backpack had arrested my fall, and when I turned around to see the crevasse.... you couldn't see it. I also worked on a deep sea semi-sub rig that had a bell and a chamber.... I was so totally shocked by the state of the bell and the chamber, I pitied anyone who would need it. The owners of the rig were against any new stuff being put into maintaining the rig, not even light bulbs (I was the Electrician), that I was sure they wanted it to sink.

Although I feel awful for everyone involved in these stories, the third one hit me the hardest and the worst. I couldn't imagine receiving a call stating that my husband has been in a slight accident basically but will be all right and will survive, only to know that he actually died. To sit there as those two divers, to think and hope in the highest degree, "Yes, we've been saved!!" Only to be let down..knowing that it's only going to be a matter of time before they both die has to be the saddest thing I've ever heard. I can only imagine what was going through their minds at the time that they were sitting at the bottom of the water knowing that they could do absolutely nothing to help save their own lives and that it was in the hands of others completely. My heart goes out to these two divers and their families. All they were trying to do was provide for their families and go back to them, but unfortunately, that never happened 😔😪🤧

That diving bell story involves my late father in law, he was a deep sea commercial diver on that rig and was in one of the Other bells. Word got to shore that they had a lost bell but no one initially knew which bell, so which divers were lost. It was an agonising wait for my late mother in law who was pregnant with my wife at the time and the other loved ones on shore. Ultimately it was luck of the draw it wasn’t but it was someone else’s husbands and dads who died. A hugely dangerous job with much better safety in the North Sea these days.

As of July 1st 2020 employers and bosses can be charged with manslaughter if a worker dies due to unsafe environments and/or instructions.
#2 deserved way more than fines for everyone in charge. I mean they never even checked the thermometer.... That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. What a horrible way to go out.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464

ESPECIALLY considering that EVERY recipe for bread I've ever had starts with an oven set to around 350 - 400 F...
The protocol is a 24 hour "cool down" before repairs... just to reach reasonably safe through the whole machine... That's anything at or about 100 F so there's no dubious hot surfaces or surprises in the middle... you know... the hottest part...
In theory, you could cut corner a little on that time schedule, but not by very much without some serious risk, and from the sounds of things, it was a 12 hour "cool off"... SO the easy math says it's going to be BAD.
BUT no... Let's just fine the company and management... like they're not going to just gouge a higher price out of their customers to cover it anyway.
      Yeah... THAT'S a good idea. ;o)

@@gnarthdarkanen7464 Should be jailtime for this.
If you break rules & regulations & get people killed, anything less than jailtime is just a crime in at of itself imo. Like what the fuck is a fine going to do? Nothing.
Even if they go out of business, you're hurting the workers more.

@@lockofmetal8894 Absolutely... At the risk of navel-gazing here... There ARE charges on the books like "involuntary manslaughter" and "reckless endangerment" and "criminal negligence" among many others that could be applied. I get that nobody intentionally tried to get someone killed, BUT someone put together the series of orders that directly resulted in killing someone...
THAT guy or gal should be accountable... period... AND for hiring them and not putting their ego in check, the COMPANY should then be pursued over their negligence. ;o)

I’ve just listened to about 12 hours worth of Mr. Ballen while doing rehab work on my house. It’s bedtime, and all I can think about is the poor people who made some horrible mistake and died slow, often lonely, painful deaths.
I’m also now hopefully inordinately afraid of the heated socks I just put on while climbing into bed. Wish me luck!

I went scuba diving in Brazil. We didn’t go that deep. I think it was only 40 feet at most. But the next day we had to take an 8 hour bus ride through the mountains to get back to the city. The dramatic change in atmospheric pressure caused my sinuses to practically explode. I was in agonizing pain for the whole 8 hours.
