I totally get what you mean about video games marking our lives. It's one of the reasons I love physical copies because I can look at my shelf and it's like a timeline of everything that was happening in life at those times.
Cool hearing about the 4x XP and GIL options in Final Fantasy! That should really help w/ the grinding those games are notorious for…so I snagged a Play-Asia copy this morning. Thanks dude! 🤘
Thanks again for pressing those vinyls for the Metal Jesus theme song! So happy I picked it up, I was really pleasantly surprised by the peanut butter song! Really enjoyed it 😁
I had a similar response to your FFVI with FFX HD. I started playing it recently, and the opening scene with Auron, and Blitzball and the music....I got emotional because I was teleported back 20 years to when I first played it in my parents basement, senior in school...I had the whole image with smells included. Did not know something that nostalgic could do that.
Playing Xenogears for the first time. Such an amazing game and story! Loving everything about it so far. I think you can tell from all the passion that was put into this game by the creators. Wow!
Johnny, man, FF VI, damn. The opening music in that game brought me right back to 1994, I was 19. Haven’t played the game again in nearly 30 years, and it was like I never left. The nostalgia was a trip, f*ck, getting old is something else.

I'm sooooo glad I waited for the console versions of the Final Fantasy pixel remasters. I have been loving this collection so much and I'm playing through FFI right now.
Yup that's what great about being a gamer I know exactly where I was any day of any year just look up what games was out at the time and I know EXACTLY where I was and what I was doing where I was living, everything.
That’s so cool knowing your friend worked on the new design for Leon! Glad you’re enjoying the pixel remasters. I remember picking up final fantasy anthology on the PS1 I was so excited to play ff5 finally. I was glued to this game for weeks. Such an under rated game imo
Been playing AW 1+2 like crazy! Really hard to pull myself away to be a responsible husband/father, lol. It's so addicting! This will be a great way to pass the time the next 3 weeks until we get TotK.
I've been playing some old games lately. Replayed Portal 2. Just finished basically 100% Valkyria Chronicles 4, such an amazing game. Also played Inside for the first time, very interesting and bizarre game, although it was a bit of a slog in the middle. Just started Valfaris from my backlog on Switch. What a great game! Hard but when you push through feels great :)
Been blasting through the Pixel Remasters and been really enjoying the journey! The boosters are so nice because I wouldn’t be able to get through the games otherwise lol. Wrapping up 3 today and am excited to move on to the SNES entries.
Advance Wars 1 + 2 has been my weekend game, love revisiting these games and am having a blast with it just as I did when I first bought and played them during the GBA days
I'm currently playing through Valkyrie Elysium again. That game got passed over by a lot of people, but I thought it was really fun. I also spent to the last couple of months playing Metroid Prime Remastered, and no doubt I'll be going back to it again before long.
I’ve recently bought a snes for the first time ever alongside Super Mario All Stars. I’m excited to buy and play all these classic games that I couldn’t play due to my age. I’m currently 19 years old so I really only know the DS up to Switch.
I have watched/listened to a marathon of your reviews, and couldn't quite grasp why they're so good. Until I realized, unlike most reviewers, you treat each game like a piece of art. You don't just review whether it's good or bad, but the emotions it's strikes and the artistic achievements behind them. It's like watching someone review music records or movies. Thank you very much for that perspective and treating games for what it is: ART
Honestly mate what I have been playing from the beginning of this year is Ys on PC Ys I & II Chronicles+ Complete Ys: The Oath in Felghana Complete Ys: Memories of Celceta Complete And now I am playing Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim
I couldn't explain it before but the smooth lettering/font in the FF remasters puts me off too. It's great to know you can switch back to pixel letters!
Oh man I remember playing ff3/6 back in 94. I was a 7th grader in junior high. Funny that I played that before 2/4. I still consider it one of my favorite games of all time. It’s perfect. Looking forward to playing the pixel remaster of it and 4. Both amazing games!
FF6 is still my favourite FF game 😊 I didn't play it on SNES, but on PSX as part of "Final Fantasy Collection". I didn't get far as it was in Japanese 😅 but I got to play it in English on an emulator not long after 🙂
Me too i am playing Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, i feel so nostalgic about this one. Back in the day i was always at my friend home to play Contra but one day he was playing Final Fantasy and i was like: dude can we play Contra because this game look boring. He replied NO, or you watch or you go back home, so i stayed, and i thank god i did. 2 week later he stopped the game because it was too hard for him so i ask him to borrow and that's when the love story began with Final Fantasy. So when a friend ask you stay and watch.... Do it you never know what might happen. So i played and finish my first FF with the very first one on the NES in 1990 i was 10yrs old. I was hooked very quickly. It was hard but i managed to get through the end. Then i saw FF II/IV at another friend home but i don't know why but i wasn't attracted to this one until later. Then FF III/VI came out and this one skyrocketed Final Fantasy to the top. I played this one so much that i know everything about it. I was the guy to call to know where to go or to do and when to get this or that, i was the living player's guide, i even receive call from guy i didn't even know ( a friend of a friend of a friend...) and 30 years later i am still friend with those guys : )
I also played Final Fantasy on the nes back when it came out. I loved this video, it’s exactly how I feel about these games. They also are like Mile markers in my life. Take care!
I finished octopath 2 and loved it, enjoyed it way more than the first one. Also started fire emblem engage finally, so far it's awesome.. one of my best experiences with the series :D
I like that they added quality of life changes to FF like faster walk speed and exp boost etc. I'm young enough that I grew up playing retro games on emulators with fast forward, save state etc. It really makes the games so much more enjoyable. So many games nowadays try to artificially extend the playing time.
Your memory isnt completely wrong I dont think. ALOT was changed as far as areas and segments that were either cut or added from the OG game. The truck scene was cut, the wrecking ball scene is completely different now and in an outside area, and other things were removed like the shipping container boss fight and running from the giant statue. Some cuts were for the better but some parts like the truck I wouldve liked to see kept in. Awesome remake overall. Worst part for me was the extended ashley puzzle segment. They decided to build on the shittiest scene of the OG game for some reason. They got rid of the block puzzle atleast, but some other irritating puzzles slowed the pace for me.
The first real FF experience I got was FF8... in 2012, on the PS Vita. but the one I really got into was FF3, on the Vita as well but not the original but the 3D remake. I played that one because i didn't had a 3DS and couldn't play Bravely Default 1.
Playing through FFVI for the first time! Man crazy how that game can still hold up. The music is fantastic! Also went with the original GBA Advance Wars, having a good time with that as well.
I actually got to finish up Portal 2 both the single player mode and the co-op mode with one of my friends this past weekend and glad to finally get a chance to complete it after leaving it on hold for years along with finishing up the more recent Tron Identity game on the Switch and currently reliving Final Fantasy 5 again through the pixel remaster since it will be awhile for the physical copy comes back in stock! :D
The three games I've been playing recently are: FF7 Crisis Core Reunion, Octopath Traveler 2 and finally, a weird one,......... Final Fantasy World Maxima on Switch. Which is actually a really really great game. I recommend all of these 100%
No joke, I just watched your "Best Game Night Ever" video this past Thursday, the day before my girlfriend was about to head out of town (similar to your story, I was about to have a Friday to myself). I've been meaning to do it after watching so many of your videos, this weekend I finally did it!! I downloaded Sega Ages Phantasy Star just like you did in your story, played it for the first time ever Saturday morning. Here we are in the early afternoon Sunday and I'm proud to say I beat it. What a lovely game, I'm so glad I took your word and gave it a chance. Before your channel I didn't even know there was anything besides Phantasy Star Online. - Dustin from Two Eyes Open PS: That magic gate that was holding nothing but a burger in one of the final dungeons was diabolical! You know the devs were laughing their asses off when they put that in there!
Thanks for brightening up my evening here! Currently re-starting Zelda: BotW, playing through Live a Live and absolutely loving Drainus on the Switch; which has been one of my favourite shooters for a very long time. Just feels SO good. Be sure to check it out if you love old school shmups!
Great video! I'm playing Cuphead and Re4 Remake and I'm loving it. RE4 is just amazing, even with some graphic problems on the ps4 version. I'm became a huge resident evil with time, and i got say: all these remakes are amazing, 7 and 8 are also great, but the remakes are special. A great time to be a RE fan or to become one.
I’m Playing Banjo & Kazooie on the original N64. And I’m waiting for my OLED TOTK edition Switch to come out of Friday and to play Legend of Zelda: TOTK when it’s released can’t wait to play this game.
I just bought a OLED Switch and I've been playing Ori and the Blind Forest right now. The graphics are stunning and the platforming is very challenging. I'm having a great time trying to get through the levels.
Definitely I will get the Pixel Remaster, also I´m very happy that you reached 300K subs I´ve been following the channel for a while, and seeing it grow is awesome. Greeting from Argentina!!! :)

Right now I'm playing Watch Dogs 2 on PS4, Pac Man World RE Pac on Switch, and the DLC for RE Village for PS5. Waiting for Tears of the Kingdom and Final Fantasy 16.
Spent a ton of time in the hospital in the early 2000’s and I played the crap out of the original 2 gba advance wars games. So thrilled to have these games on my switch.
Omg! Resident Evil 4 remake is an unbelievable game. Video game Crafting perfection in my eyes, Finished the game and immediately started game plus, never done this with any other game.

I was the guy to call to know where to go or to do and when to get this or that, i was the living player's guide, i even receive call from guy i didn't even know ( a friend of a friend of a friend...) and 30 years later i am still friend with those guys : )
It's funny how we used to dismiss RPGs back then because of the simplistic graphics. But the truth was, they had the most rewarding gameplay!
I also played Final Fantasy on the nes back when it came out. I loved this video, it’s exactly how I feel about these games. They also are like Mile markers in my life. Take care!
I just finished RE4 remake on ps5 about 10 minutes ago. What a great game! It was the first RE game I've ever played but it won't be the last.
I finished octopath 2 and loved it, enjoyed it way more than the first one. Also started fire emblem engage finally, so far it's awesome.. one of my best experiences with the series :D
Octopath 2 was an absolute masterpiece.
Engage was fun
Playing Wild Arms for the first time. It’s a great time, a little dated in some ways, but fun
The three games I've been playing recently are: FF7 Crisis Core Reunion, Octopath Traveler 2 and finally, a weird one,.........
Final Fantasy World Maxima on Switch. Which is actually a really really great game. I recommend all of these 100%
The merchant does say what are you buying from time to time
No joke, I just watched your "Best Game Night Ever" video this past Thursday, the day before my girlfriend was about to head out of town (similar to your story, I was about to have a Friday to myself).

PS: That magic gate that was holding nothing but a burger in one of the final dungeons was diabolical! You know the devs were laughing their asses off when they put that in there!
That is soo great to hear!!
My mate ordered me to buy this game. It was from his childhood… can understand why. Got all 3 of those titles and it’s gonna be a great year 😊
I just finished Beyond Oasis (The Story of Thor) for the first time this weekend. Been a long time coming!
Playing the exact same games at the moment, great video, what a year for video games 🎉
I felt it too man I've wanted a ff6 remake remake and wow it's hit home for me I feel spoiled! It really does bring out the past memories!! And yes original music is the best for me as well. And you talked me in advanced wars I'm gonna get it thanks again John!
The original merchant’s voice-our friends still reference it to this day!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that relates their lifetime in terms of video games were we playing 😅
I'm playing Final Fantasy I-VI for the first time! I got the Play-Asia physical copy for the Switch and I'm having a blast!
Omg! Resident Evil 4 remake is an unbelievable game. Video game Crafting perfection in my eyes, Finished the game and immediately started game plus, never done this with any other game.
I love your passion!! Never change that! Thank you. 😊
I just recently got the platinum in RE4 and now playing Horizon Call of the Mountain, finishing up the first Octopath Traveler, and Like a Dragon: Ishin!
I finished RE4 Remake not too long ago and now i've been hooked on playing Dead Island 2 and am gonna be checking out the Street Fighter 6 demo! Then next weekend is Star Wars! WHAT A YEAR MAN! Soooo many good games coming out so I feel you on this one man! haha. We having a good year for videogames that's for dang sure! and it's only gonna get better!!!
