It's crazy when you think that you're alone with your problem and then you TH-cam it and there's a guy giving a better tutorial than most of the training I've ever received at any of my employers. Thank you so much for what you do, I ran my old bowden tube through and about an eighth of an inch of crap came out, ran it through until clean, installed the new recommended bowden tube from Amazon and everything is running smoothly.
My only concern is I didn't replace the extruder tip itself, which I might need to end up doing, and I may have slightly undercut the amount of tube to cover the entire printing space, so just a heads up, probably better to cut more than less.
    Thanks again

I have spent the past week going through every part of my printer I bought second hand. The previous owner said his kid couldn’t get it print right. I’ve been making test prints and getting fails, e skips, and just an overall headache. I changed nozzles, recalibrated the extruded, and got the bed perfectly level. Then I saw your video, and an aaha moment when pushed a 1.5 inch long plug of solid filament with a groove that new filament was taking through it to reach the hot end. Got it all put back, and it prints like a dream! Thanks my man.

I ran the bowden tube down several times got some gray filament off. I waited 30 seconds or so, ran the tube down it again and got more junk, even some old red filament. I had a gap which will be fixed shortly. Thanks again, Tom!

Thank you so much. Printers like the ones from Creality are great, but require a lot of know-how and maintenance to consistently get good quality prints. Videos like yours make that possible. I was having both underextrusion and stringing issues, and going back and forth to try and solve for both. I didn't suspect a clog, and once I did, I wasn't sure of the "Ender way" to fix it. This walkthrough was a huge help.

Man, you're a genius. I replaced the boden tube and nozzle and was still having issues. Sure enough, when I followed your advice, a great chunk of semi solid pla came out the bottom of the hot end. One thing I did do differently was to not dismantle the hot end assemblym this shortened the procedure a lot. I just took the nozzle off and pushed the boden tube throudh as per your video. Thanks v much

Printer started underextruding when I put in a new nozzle. I have been into 3d printing like 3 years and never ever even heard of that issue before. crazy how you learn something new every day. Turns out the new nozzle is like 1mm shorter than the other, thats why the tube didn't reach it. Hotend was FULL of gunk. Can't thank you enough!!

Hey there, sir -- thank you so much for showing us this content!
I was looking through the top and bottom for way too long, yesterday. The obstruction looked like a mix of mess and erosion at first, so I thought that I was about to order a new hotend assembly. After seeing you run the tubing ALL the way through, that made so much more sense for how one can preserve a single hotend for much longer. Thank you, appreciate you, and I've subscribed. :)

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for your videos. Don't change a thing. Your Creality videos and "help" for things like the bowden tube and whatnot have helped me more than just about all the other 3d printer gurus channels. I have a Geetech which is a larger clone of a CR10 which is... a lot like an Ender 3. Which means same issues. My fitting on my hot end got loose within 20 hours of printing. I bought one of the 10 packs you list from Amazon and so far it's been a big difference on retract survivability. Also, I like your tabletop model printing channel. Even though I don't play tabletop games these days you have to know how these printers work inside and out to get good quality models printed. Way more practical than just printing a couple of test prints on a brand new printer and calling it good. We need to see what goes wrong and how to fix things after you've put 500 hours on a printer. :) Keep up the good work.

I decided to install a Capricorn tube on my CR10 today. I used your video as a guide and everything went perfect. Other TH-cam videos never mention the part where you advise to screw the nozzle on then back it off 3/4 turn. Push the PTFE tube in all the way then continue to tighten the nozzle. Most TH-cam videos tell people to tighten the nozzle first then tighten the bowden connection on the top end. Your explanation makes much better sense. Thanks!

Excellent 3D Printer 101 video. 110% agree with the method for ensuring a good seal between the nozzle and tube. I do that each time I switch nozzles and have had almost no problems with filament leaking.
I switched to Capricorn PTFE and have had no drag problems, nor problems with PTFE breaking down when I print PETG at 240C. I went ahead and bought the couplers they sell and they're easier to use when removing the tube (they don't jam nearly as much as the couplers that came with the printer or the same-style replacements).

My tube was a chore to remove. I wound up bending it a little to get it out and yes I was depressing the cap. It had a ton of sticky black adhesive coated on it and the inside of the coupler. I also didn't catch the comment on leave the "sock" and thought I could unwrap mine but nope so it's destroyed. Good news is I saw your link to the silicone cover and have ordered a set. Great stuff Tom. Many thanks. I had 2 minor issues during the replacement process. 1, the Bowden tube kept slipping out of my grip and 2, my Bowden tube was blocked with plastic crud. Luckily I had orded extra tubes along with the couplers.

dude thank you so much. the second you put the bowden tube in while the nozzle was loose i practically smacked myself in the forehead. seems so obvious in hindsight.

After replacing my extruder to an aluminium one, suddenly I was under extruding. I didn't understand. After a few days searching in that part I decided to start searching for other causes. I followed the instructions of this video and found some hard filament near my nozzle. Thank you sir for your great videos! After a week of struggeling I finally can print clean again!

I have the problem with it popping out at the extruder end. I ordered new ones but was wondering about a temp fix while I wait.
But, the brilliant idea was the zip-tie instead of the blue clip. I've had blue clips fall off in the past. That alone was worth watching the video! Will be checking out your other videos for tips like that!

Thanks for saving the day! And if anyone else is reading this, this didn't work for me at first, so I got mad and turned off my printer and a chunk (that I couldn't get out with the tube) came oozing out! So don't give up this will work.

.. I've had my Ender 3 for a month now and I've used it a lot in that time. And just last Friday it stopped printing a ticking sound was something I kept hearing and for during this last week I changed the extruder (was very much needed) , got new nozzles new bed and on the end.. The ticking stopped cause of the new extruder but...still nothing. Finally stumbled on this video and sure enough I had a huge clog in the bowden tube. Cleaned it and all is good now. I.. Was baffled that was it... Thank you!

OMG, man you are awesome. Learned how bowden tube works. Previously as a stupid i have cut down the bowden tube at nozzle to whole clogging situation, and always having problems with clogging frequently.thought it is normal. Now i understood why . I am gonna try that out. Thank You so so much. Love from India. BTW am youtuber from Hyderabad India.

Tom, this video was a life saver- well, it saved me from bashing my Ender 5 apart with a mace so I guess it saved the printer's life anyway... Thanks for the excellent advice! Amazon is out of some of the parts you linked :(
I'll get them when I can- but for now I just rebuilt my Ender 5 nozzle assembly and hope to see it back and running in a few minutes!

So, learning some new stuff from this. Having bowden tube problems (getting it replaced with capricorn, but that's neither here nor there). Anyway, I pulled out the old tubing and there's gunk *all over* the part that was in the hotend. I now know what it is. I'll be using clean parts of the tube to clean out my hot end now while waiting for replacement. Thank you for yet another very useful video (which I had missed before)

I find Bowden is not accurate at all when it comes to filament flow. Now I have a direct extruder on the carriage and I have much less flow issues now. I have a CR-10S4. The standard NEMA17 34mm stepper can handle the weight even at higher acceleration, but it does exacerbate ghosting in walls.. Working on a rigid printhead with everything bolted/screwed in as a whole, with dual extruder aswell. The extruder steppers will be NEMA17 20mm, assisted by two steppers located by the filament rolls to feed the filament so the forces are balanced as much as possible. That should reduce ghosting a lot.
