I honestly have a soft spot for The Run. Maybe it's just the spectacle but I've always liked the "action blockbuster" angle of games. And while The Run certainly has issues, it has some appeal. At least to me.
I too have a certain love for The Run, the over-the-top action reminiscent of its time surely has some appeal in one way or another, too bad the PC port was awful, definitely deserves a second chance in the form of a remaster.
The online multiplayer was pretty fun imo.

It wasn’t an excellent game, I mean the game felt way too linear and short for a Need for Speed game and the customization was limited, but it makes up for that with just dumb popcorn movie fun
That’s the charm to The Run, it’s just dumb fun for its action sequences(while illogical at times) are pretty badass to look at
it's one of my favorite racing games, it's not the kind you play for long periods of time but it's the one you come back to every so often
The first nfs game i played was Hot Pursuit 2 , All the way to the newest game ( Nfs heat) But i really liked the run, it was really challenging and that made it fun for me. Not biased to the older games tho , i dont really have a favourite.
I like how they seemingly just forgot to give the cop cars flashing lights

I like how they just cut the 3Ds mini-games and didn't even TRY to add them to the wii version, really shows how much they cared.

The Run is one of the best NFS games ever made. You need to appreciate the track design, physics, visual presentation and see that it is a culmination of pretty much everything the NFS series was going for
Best NFS ever? Not even close. Enjoyable? Yes.
the run was mostly highways. very boring. and at no point did i ever feel like i was in a race. just a long time trial

I've got to agree there, I've played pretty much every main NFS title and the only one I ever keep coming back to is The Run.
Not to knock the other games, but I personally enjoy the straightforward linear story driven racing experience.

The 3ds version was better from a controls standpoint... the poor graphics also felt a little bit more at home on a handheld.

I honestly thought the Run looked really good on the Wii. The graphics could have used a little more contrast to make them sharper, but it was nice to see a racing game attempting a realistic look on the Wii rather than the cartoony graphics you'd normally get on the system.

They could get more work on the graphics, they could make higher poly cars or add more effects

To be fair though, NFS Hot pursuit 2010 also features very open long stretch of highways, with most of them flat out at top speed. At least you have to dodge cops, drift in bends, and the roads are narrower.
It's still not as bad as NFSMW for the PSP or... *Shudders* ... The DS version

@@r0b3rt_959 MW 5-1-0 is horrible. It can only be fun in really short bursts. It has infuriating and idoticly designed gameplay regarding the police. You cant destroy them and there is no point to bother with escaping them after races. Rubberband and handling are quite bad.
This video is fascinating to me, because it inspired me to buy the PC version of the Run and...I actually really damn like the game? Like it's really fun and has those old-school NFS vibes and you can mostly just eyeroll your way through the story. It's also hard as nails.

When Firebrand closed one of their offices (Either Glasgow or Edinburgh, I can’t remember. Actually, they might’ve just been clearing old stock as, but this was a while ago now) I was responsible for dealing with their old PCs and Devkits. We’re talking PS2, Wii, DS, 3DS, PSP, as well as various test consoles. It was awesome, I was basically allowed to mess around with their old equipment and dig around in them. I remember finding files for Fast and Furious Showdown on a hard drive, I wiped it. I mean, the games were all trash, but the hardware was cool to play with
should of kept it and sold it if you was able too.
0:22 that's kind of the point of the game. The NFS series couldn't just go on with their standard formula, it was sucked dry, so they had to experiment. Prostreet was a success, and it proved that "different" still could be good

tbh, the 3DS/Wii version of the game would have been dangerously close to be as good as the HD versions of the game if it had better level design and eased off on QTEs; the story was better than the HD versions IMO, the core driving mechanics are decent, the classic NFS remixes were bangers and the chases were damn fun.
I've spent way too much time on the 3DS version, and not in a good way. I was desperate for a portable Need for Speed game, and the 3DS version of the Run was all I had at the time. My only reason for going back to the game would be for nostalgic purposes, but even so, I would have to be EXTREMELY bored to even think about going back to it. Also, I actually really love Mick Gordon's remixes of the 90s Need for Speed songs, but I hate how they're exclusive to the lesser versions of Need for Speed: The Run. They should've been in the HD versions as well. (or better yet, should've been in a better Need for Speed game)
That NFS soundtrack remixes deserves to be in a better place tbh, like the 2010 reboot of Hot Pursuit
The fact that you cover wierd versions/ports of games makes your channel so good, keep it up!
I find it telling how the part about the development of this version and how Need for Speed games compared on different hardware was more interesting than when speaking about the game itself.
I'm amazed you haven't mentioned that remixed old NFS songs were made by Mick Gordon, hell you even put a screenshot of the YT video that has him in the name.
I really liked the line "Need for Speed: The Run for Wii gives me a whole lot of need because it underdelivers on the speed."

The Run wii wasn't really that bad. I liked the alternate reality between both stories and the classic NFS theme remixed by Mick Gordon (Yes the same guy who made the DOOM soundtracks)

heck i would like for NFS to go back to its original 1994-2002 roots of NFS again, i'm tired of bein stuck in tha city on every game from Underground and above give me my 2-lane country backroads with long straightaways again

Good video, I appreciated your deep but concise dive into the development. Interesting how the 3DS has programmable shader effects but these don’t carry over to the Wii which was fully capable of these.
Oh the nostalgia with the NFS Porsche Music...
Still can't get over the fact that the guy who remixed the classic NFS songs in this version of The Run (and did the stellar freeroam music from World) eventually went on to make the iconic soundtrack of Doom and Doom Eternal.

Firebrand Game was a big chunk of my childhood as I enjoyed thier DS version of Need For Speed Nitro, I later tried out thier wii games like Hot Wheels Track Attack, and I somehow enjoyed thier DS version of Undercover.
i had alot of fun playing this on the wii becuase my ps3 broke and couldnt play the original version
I vaguely remember receiving this game as a gift and playing it for what felt like 5 hours before deciding that it was fake. The box had the official cover art but the game consisted of me driving in a straight line on a highway escaping from black cars, which apparently were indestructible and and after a certain time passed they just crashed into you to make you lose and start over.

My parents bought a Wii for Christmas in 2011, it was the Wii version with MKWii. Anyway, months later my brother came and talk about this nfs the run on the Wii, but the thing is that my brother know that the Wii version was not the same. We decided to rent the Wii version in a blockbuster that was a couple of blocks of my house. And wtf we liked the game so much that we also bought the game after. So good memories. Then i discovered the other versions (incluiding the 3DS version). I literally was so young and I enjoyed so much this game.

I always felt warm when I heard NFS The Run. To me, that wii version was perfect because it was my childhood. The comic strips to replace cutscenes made summer cool nights felt comfortable. However, when I searched it up, I found out there was a pc version. This whole time I was like "There was a pc version???"

So the Wii was an upgraded gamecube. NFS Most Wanted and Carbon worked fine on the Gamecube. Theres no reason that EA couldnt have just made Wii/PS2 exclusive NFS games that looked good and released alongside the HD versions. Why not have a NFS Nitro 2 and 3, instead of a jank version of a jank NFS game.
I remember getting this game as a kid (I thought it was just a port of the PS3/360 version but with all the violence removed/censored becasue it was a 7 instead of an 18 lol) and found it pretty easy except for one time trial race in the challenge series. There was a 0.1 second difference between Bronze, Silver and Gold and I could barely get bronze with a Camaro, which is the best car in the class, why the devs decided to put it in the game I'll have no idea.
Those 90's remixes were the highlight of the game for me

I loved run. I played it on xbox 360 in 2012 and to this day it's still one of my favourite nfs games
This game was my childhood, used to grind the 3DS missions all the time. I remember constantly restarting the Las Vegas level to get a specific song to play. It's interesting knowing that this game was buggy, cause I played this game for what felt like 100s of hours without running into a single glitch, guess it must just be the Wii version.
I have both The Run for 3DS and Wii and the PS3. I really enjoy playing the 3DS version because it's handheld and you can bring it places and on road trips. The car's are also cool in the game too.
This feels like GTA San Andreas "remastered" ports. Instead of porting the completely normal PC version, they instead port the toned-down mobile version to consoles.

I honestly love the run wii. I remember Christmas of 2011 running down to my wii and putting in the game that i just unwrapped. I didn't care that the game just kept crashing. When it did work, I played that game for maybe two days straight. It has a very special place in my heart.
I thought it was pretty funny that the video buffered for half a minute right before the quicktime hairpin stuff.
That entire segment before and after sounds so depressing, even for NFS standards.
NFS The Run isn't the only game to be ported from the 3DS to the Wii. Transformers Dark Of The Moon Stealth Force Edition was ported from 3DS to the Wii
Oh and The Amazing Spider Man
There are a couple of other games where the 3DS and Wii versions are the same that I can think of. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and the Sega Marvel games (Thor and Capt. America) were ports
5:04 this was my biggest problem with the game when i was a 10 year old. Graphics were fine, gameplay was overtly assisted.
For me this was a good purchase for $15 used on the 3DS. I appreciate you taking the time to play what’s essentially a barebones handheld/mobile game on a full home console for content haha

I waited so long for this video because I considered to buy this for my wii at the time. but the game looked like a alpha game when I looked up the gameplay.
Freaking loved the run for a short unique sprint experience. The cars handle really nicely imo and the speed is great. I played it on PS3 and really can't say it enough I love the run.

While they may of not been exsact ports Battleship and Amazing Spiderman were also the same game on Wii&3DS.
You should check out the Wii version of Driver San Francisco, that was also a crappy port

Only other game I can think of that was the exact same on a handheld as on the main console was a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game that came out for the original DS and the Wii. Now, the excuse was actually pretty cool if you ask me. The two platforms could play alongside each other both local by syncing DSs to a Wii copy, or over the internet. Since the games were identical, with just the Wii version being higher resolution, you could also transfer save data over to or from either version too. My friends and I used to play it a bunch back in the day.
This game just sucks though, so yeah.
the low point of NFS black box games? nah, Undercover is way, waaaay worse imo
i didn't have a ps3, xbox or a good pc at the time so The Run's wii version was all i had. didn't even know it was that bad and i genuinely enjoyed it.
So they made a game for a 8th generation handheld and then made a slightly enhanced port to a 7th gen home console. That is so unbelievably cursed. I would say it makes sense, but then again, relatively accurate 3DS conversions of Wiiu games also somehow exist, so I am just left confused at such a Nintendo hardware-moment.
I actually got The Run for Wii just because I didn't have a PS3 and still wanted to play it. I beat it, but haven't played it ever since...
As from Game engine perspective, NFS Run is beautiful.
God skate 3 is so fucking GOOD. Dammit that 2 second clip makes me wanna load it up now. I even know the area its that neat little concrete park in the industrial area.
Rodea the Sky Soldier is a game whose wii *u* and 3DS versions are the same, with the regular wii version being the odd one out (and also quite a bit better than the other two versions)

I remember almost getting the run on the wii instead of 360.
I was at gamestop a couple years after the game released. I loved how cool it looked in the trailers, and wanted it so badly. So I went to my local gamestop to look for it and they didn't have it. They did however, have it on the wii ready to ship. I thought about it and almost bought it. My dad eventually convinced me to. Prior to this, I never saw gameplay on the wii version til after this night. I had no idea how much worst it was on it. I asked a cashier to order it, but suddenly it wasn't there. Did the other employee lie? Did this dude fuck up the search bar for his xvideos search engine? Who knows, but I did eventually find the game on 360 months after at the same gamestopnin store. Still love this game

I personally enjoyed need for speed the run on my ps3 mainly because of the graphics and how accurate certain areas were. I just really liked racing outta my hometown and across the continent. The cars and environments looked nice and the driving felt pretty good and I also like some of the scenarios it put you in except for the final race which felt lack luster. Unfortunately, that’s all the good things I can say for it. I do also agree with the criticsms tho. However, I keep coming back to it pretty much.

I liked The Run. just needed to be longer. That level when they get the helicopter to chase you was so much fun.

Ya man I think you're opinion is extremely harsh, this game on the 360 was one of the best nfs games they made, I'd only put most wanted original and carbon above it but it's amazing. It's got amazing visuals for the time, remember when I got it my uncle thought it was a video not a game, that blew my mind back then. The cars genuinely control beautifully and physics are on par, way better then let's say, Rivals. The story is meh I admit but it's enjoyable. Police are so godamn fun to go against and honest just the race design and the set pieces are so tight because of the linear nature, they're so detailed and full of spectacular views and variety, I adore this game
I would like to swap the word Terrible with great please. I played this with my brother for ages but then again we didnt have to pay full price for it as we got it from a DVD rental website before it went bust so then we didnt have to send the disc back lol. I like this game though.
The Run one of my favorites. The graphics 10/10, sets 10/10, car design 10/10, simple appealing story that matches the point of the game.
The original Hot Pursuit 2 from 2003 is my all time favourite.
