To fail would have been to ignore being sick & carrying on. This could have been dangerous. You made the right decision - not every walk in life will go to plan, but the mountains & trails will still be there for next time.
Mine too. I'd worked out a route to do in the Cairngorms but was dilly dallying like I do. Then I saw Gregor's video of the exact same route and it inspired me to actually go and do it. And it was awesome.
Loved the dramatic intro , the sunsets, the sunrises , the incredible views and the suspense at the end , great video pal . Hope you’re feeling better.
That was the best decision mate. The trail will be here when you're better, can't wait to see you go through the rest of the trail. Hope you feel better!
everyone before me has summed it up. Hope all goes well and we see you back fit and well. I wish you a very happy Christmas and thank you for all your videos.
Gregor thanks for another great video. I am surprised by all the hiking trails and number of mountains. Sorry that you fell ill, the trail will wait for another day. Happy Christmas to you and your family.
Dear Gregor, I am very sorry that you fell ill on your trip, I wish you that you are recovering and well. I greatly appreciate your videos, they are excellent, your country is beautiful, thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us. Take good care of yourself and may you always be full of blessings.
Oh Gregor! Such a shame that you had to stop your adventure but these things happen..what you shared was beautiful! I really hope you are feeling better and regaining your strength for another try after Christmas. i wish you a very happy Christmas my friend, and a very happy and prosperous New Year filled with love , excitement and excellent adventures! 🤗
Years ago I was in Scotland with my brothers, we visited some lodges and looked at the country and the people. It was great! Unfortunately some of the brothers were not good at walking, so I couldn't go hiking. But I'm thinking about going to the Highlands with my twin sons next year. Thank you for showing us such beautiful landscapes. I wish you and all other readers the best of health, a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year.
We tried the West Highland way back in 86 during this time of year. 4 of us, not one days experience between us except for one guy. It was the most miserable experience, we were washed out, the army who was doing it at the same time put us up at the church hall with them for somewhere to sleep and made us breakfast in the morning before we headed back to Glasgow, great times. The next year we did it during the summer and made it. We wanted a whole brass band as we walked into Fort William, never got it but again great experiences along the way
Ohh, so sorry you fell ill..Hope you are doing better now, and remember, you did not fail. Our Health must always come first, and you made a wise choice not to continue on the trail. There will be other days and other opportunities.Looking forward to part II.
No shame young man, as 18 year olds we only made it to Drymen from Milngavie before getting wrecked, spending all our money, two of the group getting injured fighting each other, and then making the journey back home to the capital in shame, 6 days early, now that's failure to complete the WHW 😄
I like the idea of the paetron membership. As this is such a wonderful TH-cam channel which deserves support. Your parents should be extremely proud of you you are a wonderful lovely person- thank you for these lovely videos
Hope you're feeling much, much better now Gregor. It's not nice when sickness suddenly catches you when you're not expecting it. Hopefully you got some R&R and you'll be able to pick up where you left off next time. Have a lovely Christmas and Hogmanay!
We went N to S summer of 22. I broke a Bone in my foot 3 days before the planned departure so I rented a folding bike, my hiking partner walked while I biked. It was phenomenal. No such thing as a failure, it's good decision making about the current situation. Congrats on taking responsibility for yourself and the current conditions, it speaks highly of your maturity and good sense.
Mate that's no failure, i had to give up when i got to the Crianlarinch hotel one year, the weather was absolutely atrocious so made the decision to call it a day and I'm glad i did because unfortunately someone got into trouble on the route and had to be rescued
Thank goodness you were so close to a Hotel to get help. I hope you get well for the Holidays. Just continue when you can, we'll be here waiting for you. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Jolly Good New Year 🕛🎊!!! The views and trip were spectacular.
I'm so sorry you were sick. That came on very quickly. I was worried you would try to continue on past Inversnaid, as it gets more remote and difficult and there is less availability for help to come to you. You made the wise choice. I look forward to seeing you return to the way and finish. Best of luck!
Although I’m really sorry for what is it that you went through and will be waiting for the next video, I think that calling for help was the most intelligent thing you could do. And it is never a fail when you recognise that the conditions aren’t optimal to continue. Continuing perhaps would have been a fail. Get well soon Gregor❤
I had to bail at the half way point on the coast to coast with a shin splint, which I've never had before, it's gutting but you just have to suck it up and regroup, I'm going again in May. I'm sure you'll be back, and completing it will be all the sweeter the second time around.
Such a shame you fell ill Gregor but I hope you’re feeling better. The trail will be there for you to complete when you’re able. What fab shots you gave us and I loved the jokes!
A real Christmas treat is another stunning video from our dear Gregor. I have a suspicion that there will be a Happy Ending next week, fingers crossed!
Aww. Must have been something you ate, I guess. But these things happen - and you can get someone to drop you back at Inversnaid when you're better, so you can resume your walk - and you'll still have completed the whole WHW when you're done. I did a similar, 120-mile sponsored walk some years back - over the space of three weeks - because everything that could possibly go wrong - from the wrong type of underwear to falling and spraining my ankle - did go wrong! Yet, I still completed my intended route, it just took a bit longer than I'd anticipated, that's all! I hope it didn't last too long, and you're able to enjoy a good Christmas and New Year.
Good effort pal, it’s not nice feeling rotten on the trail. When I completed it in 2022 I was on top of the world - just remember that when you do finish it you’ll feel the same!
I think we’ve done the way at the same time! I’m currently in Glencoe! You did the right thing, especially since the weather has now turned quite bad, you’d be in an even worse position. The Way isn’t going anywhere, brilliant effort!
Aw mate, I feel for you. I could tell in the clip where you said you didn't feel great that you were definitely not well. I hope you're on the mend now, and you know you'll smash the rest of the WHW next time. Well done for such a great effort and get well soon
I'm so sorry to see you got such an unwelcome early Christmas present, especially after getting the trek off to a cracking start. Sunset camp over Loch Lomond, just sublime! Hope you're back to your usual 'fit as a flea' for Christmas day.😅
There will be more chances mate💯🙌🏻 Still love the video, awesome as usual🏆 Gregor hope you get well soon and hope you have a lovely Christmas buddy 🎄🎅🏻 Also I would be a paetron for you too
a hope you were ok might have been something you eat or water such a lovely walk from drymen to balmaha i walk it a few times my self and the view from conic hill is great you can see over to luss and beinn dubh the glen striddle horseshoe witch is a great hike .
That Loch Lomond section is extremely tough, it was beautiful but the ground is so uneven, lots of little ascents/descents definitely the most challenging part of the trail
Hi Gregor, such a shame mate, but the trail will always be there. It was probably for the better, you would not have not wanted to get sick whilst you were on the next tough rocky section by the loch shore. I’m doing the WHW in May, I’m so looking forward to y. All the best for Christmas and New Year mate. 😀⛰🥾🏕️🎅🏻🎄🏴🏴
I loved your video and the beautiful scenery and hope you recover soon. I noticed that you took water from a burn which may have contained pathogens , it is always safer to boil before drinking.
Sometimes we gotta appreciate the journey even if it didnt end completely ahaha, you still got to experience some beautiful views and hike for that long at least. Wise decision that, everything's always there for you to accomplish and experience if youre healthy Looking for forward to whats coming next
I did a little bit of the WHW last week but only from Milngavie to Mugdock as I wanted to look at the observatory they have opened up by the castle,or one of the castles as there seems to be 3 of them there!
Fantastic photography, Gregor, looking forward to when you resume the trail. Good decision to bail out where you did, as the next part is pretty tough even when you are on top form. May I please ask what you are filming this on?
Ah man gutted for you but what else could you do? Are you ok now? I love watching your adventures and look forward to you returning and making it. Speedy recovery and have a great Christmas and New Year 🎊
Well the WHW in winter, yes I like the sound of that, maybe I could manage it. Yes sorry to send you got sick, has happy me a couple of times while in Scotland and had to Finnish my route once. All the best Gregor and merry Christmas 🎄
What can I say, great wee Part 1, looking forward to Part 2 when you can introduce yourself to the wee baldy man in Fort William. Hope your feeling better now too.
I mean it is unfortunate that you got sick but you did the responsible thing. Imagine if you stuck with it then people had to organise a search and rescue operation as the weather was getting worse. You weren't selfish and that is absolutely the right call. the WHW will still be there for you to revisit when back on your feet
Awww man a stayed at sallochy campsite a few years back it was class , hired a fire pit n had a great wee night , shame it rained the whole time tho 😂😂😂👌
Nice filming. Shame you had to quit. I think you passed me + 1 on Monday 9 Dec just before Sallochy campsite as we were clearing some mud from the path and clearing ditches.(volunteering in the National Park) I said ‘Hi’ as you passed. It was a wee while later I realised I knew your face from TH-cam.
Just joining in with the rest of your fans to wish you a good recovery, which I’m hoping from the edited video must have happened already. Looking forward to the Patreon.
Always put your health first and listen to your body. The West Highland Way can be brutal. That hill you pointed out was Dumgoyne. The Glen Goyne whisky distillery is just below it.
I really loved the video Gregor, Loch Lomond in in its winter crunchy splendor, seeing the beautiful sunset and sun rise, i love to see the golden hour😊 so sorry you got ill, there's another TH-camr Black Crag that got ill eating pre packaged sandwiches he bought and got sick too,i think the dehydrated neals you add boiling water too would be a safer bet,i hope you are well and have a great Christmas and Happy Hogmanay and we are looking forward to the next installment in the adventure, wishing you all the best😊
You could have picked a stomach bug anywhere BUT I did notice you drank clean water from a tap straight from your filter bottle. A bottle that could have been contaminated. 😬 It’s so easy to do. We’ll probably never know, but it’ll be something that simple. Hope you’ve recovered. 🤞🏻
We heard you sniffling st the beginning.. and you were quite pale.. certainly coming down with something we were sure you were, lad.. We have three find lads.. and quick to spot when they be ailing we are.. so.. We were relieved to see that you made the decision to return home.. Especially in winter .. with so few hikers about.. quite dangerous would be for you to continue on.. especially with no one to be helping you.. Always your life is of prime importance, lad.. and an excellent example you set for the young lads and lasses who are watching.. Even though you could not finish this adventure.. still you provided us watching with splendid scenery of that magnificent area of Scotland.. Tomorrow is another day.. and you will return and finish your quest.. Admit we were worried about you.. so easy to become dehydrated.. especially in winter.. and hypothermia is another concern.. We wish for you a speedy recovery.. and thank you as always for having us along..💜💙🕊️ Slan mo charaid William and Jen
@ Always you are welcome, dear lad… Nollag Christel.. Bliadhna Mhath Ur.. Scottish Gaelic for Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year from William and Jen💜💙🕊️
That's bad luck Greggor. I'd imagine the trip took a lot of planning only for it to end early. Shitty water you picked up on the way perhaps? I couldn't see on the video when you were filling up, but perhaps invest in a water filter. Looking forward to the next time.
Never a failure a great experience for you you’ll be back stronger than ever we never appreciate that we feel great most days and are able to live our life’s until we are sick it’s a great lesson appreciate your life when you are healthy young man 👨 Look forward to your return 👍
Not a fail. Common sense is never a fail. A lot of people get sick on the stretch along the Loch. It is tough and some dodgy water sources. My first time on the way was when it first opened. I was 14. We got just past Balmaha on day 1 when a storm hit. That was it we bailed to a B&B and got the bus home as we were skint from the B&B😂 Hope you are feeling better now.
Gutted mate I did it in agustust and got just past loch lomond inversnaid is it ? And I had to do half of loch lomond from were u stoped spewing that was a hard day when I woke up still spewing the day day I called it quits and headed home also 😢
You didn't mention feeling unwell until right towards the end of the video. You were simply manning up! Correct call to make the sensible decision. So, these were the "bonny, bonny banks of Loch Lomond"? We were taught to sing this in Class Music on the southern tip of Africa, in Cape Town!
Wait until next year same time. Buy Turmac meals through the year so you’re stocked up. I ken they’re not cheap but you could live off one a day and it would weigh little. But a different take on the WHW so go for it again! 😉
To fail would have been to ignore being sick & carrying on. This could have been dangerous. You made the right decision - not every walk in life will go to plan, but the mountains & trails will still be there for next time.
Well said 👍
I feel sick
100% mate, a tough one to take but I’ll be back again to finish the trail. Have a great Christmas
Hope you recovered well and have a great Christmas break ❤
Unlucky mate! The trail is still there for when you’re better!
Get well soon and have a great Christmas 🎄🏴🤝
Thanks for the kind words, have a great Christmas
Been waiting for this all week, you're definitely my favorite channel right now!
Mine too.
I'd worked out a route to do in the Cairngorms but was dilly dallying like I do.
Then I saw Gregor's video of the exact same route and it inspired me to actually go and do it.
And it was awesome.
@MG-bs5mr Awesome!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoy the adventures 😊

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it
That was the best decision mate. The trail will be here when you're better, can't wait to see you go through the rest of the trail. Hope you feel better!
everyone before me has summed it up. Hope all goes well and we see you back fit and well. I wish you a very happy Christmas and thank you for all your videos.
Failure does not lie in falling down, but lies in not getting back up. You are stronger than you know.
Couldn’t have said it better myself mate 😊
Gregor thanks for another great video. I am surprised by all the hiking trails and number of mountains. Sorry that you fell ill, the trail will wait for another day. Happy Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks for the support, it really is appreciated. Have a great Christmas😊
Intro was absolutely fantastic man! Your channel is brilliant!!!

Aw mate it was going so well, you could hear the joy in your voice at the sunset. Hopefully you recover soon. 💪🏻
The trail will be there for you again, don’t worry mate!
100% mate, I’ll be back. Have a great Christmas :)
@ You too mate and all the best for ‘25
You did the right thing kid. The walk will always be there. Have a great Christmas 🫶🏴

A friend of mine did it in October. Said the conditions were just right. Maybe attempt it in the future when things are more favourable.
I'm so sorry you were sick. That came on very quickly. As always great footage. I hate cliffhangers, so I will have to watch the next one. I hope you are well again. Stay safe!
I had to bail at the half way point on the coast to coast with a shin splint, which I've never had before, it's gutting but you just have to suck it up and regroup, I'm going again in May. I'm sure you'll be back, and completing it will be all the sweeter the second time around.

Thanks mate, I’ll be back to finish it for sure👍
Sensible. That's why we are with you 👍
Get well soon. The trail will welcome you back when you're ready. Happy Christmas and Hogmanay
Hope you are feeling better. Sorry that you got ill, but it is also not a fail!!! I enjoyed watching your hike and the views. Happy Winter Solstice!
I think we’ve done the way at the same time! I’m currently in Glencoe!
You did the right thing, especially since the weather has now turned quite bad, you’d be in an even worse position. The Way isn’t going anywhere, brilliant effort!
Attempted gregor,not failed 👍
I hope you're feeling better right now. I cannot wait for you to pick-up where you left off. The scenery is fantastic. Stay safe m80 👍
Not a fail, Gregor - you're young and have many excellent adventures ahead. It would be good for you to upload a brief video to say that you're fine
Aw mate, I feel for you. I could tell in the clip where you said you didn't feel great that you were definitely not well. I hope you're on the mend now, and you know you'll smash the rest of the WHW next time. Well done for such a great effort and get well soon
Well said mrs MacLean :)
Thanks for the kind words. I’ll definitely be back for another attempt👍
I'm so sorry to see you got such an unwelcome early Christmas present, especially after getting the trek off to a cracking start. Sunset camp over Loch Lomond, just sublime!
Hope you're back to your usual 'fit as a flea' for Christmas day.😅
That was fantastic. It wasn't a fail at all, just a lesson in wisdom, well done, good lad ! What was your pack weight please?
There will be more chances mate💯🙌🏻 Still love the video, awesome as usual🏆 Gregor hope you get well soon and hope you have a lovely Christmas buddy 🎄🎅🏻 Also I would be a paetron for you too
Same to you mate, have a great Christmas😊
No fail - looking after yourself in those conditions is the only call
a hope you were ok might have been something you eat or water such a lovely walk from drymen to balmaha i walk it a few times my self and the view from conic hill is great you can see over to luss and beinn dubh the glen striddle horseshoe witch is a great hike .
Hi Gregor another brilliant video, especially the monrow with the snow cover top. You can always do the hike again. 😊
Don’t beat yourself up about 🤢🤮🤒peace
Aww you really weren’t well at all, great video though as usual. Looking forward to the next instalment 🙂
Wow Gregor, the views around Loch Lomand were amazing! So sorry you became ill at the end. Hope all ok now. Cheers, John.
Get well soon, Gregor! I'm looking forward to the next adventure 👍
Yeh you’re 100% right mate, it was for the better to just end it and head home. Good luck in May, hopefully you don’t suffer the same fate as me😂😂
I loved your video and the beautiful scenery and hope you recover soon. I noticed that you took water from a burn which may have contained pathogens , it is always safer to boil before drinking.

No fun being sick. You held up well, given where you were and how you felt! Look forward to sharing more of your adventures in 2025.
Fantastic photography, Gregor, looking forward to when you resume the trail. Good decision to bail out where you did, as the next part is pretty tough even when you are on top form. May I please ask what you are filming this on?
All filmed on an IPhone 15👍
@ awesome, thanks. And Happy Christmas, hopefully you are feeling better now.
Ah man gutted for you but what else could you do? Are you ok now? I love watching your adventures and look forward to you returning and making it. Speedy recovery and have a great Christmas and New Year 🎊
Yeh I’m all better now which is good. Thanks for the support and have a great festive period 👍
Hope you are feeling better in time for Christmas celebrations. '25 will be our greatest year for hiking adventures.
100%, many adventures in the pipeline 👍
You did your very best... always next time .. :) thanks for all the great videos merry crimbo to you cant wait too see what you do in the new year

Yes sorry to send you got sick, has happy me a couple of times while in Scotland and had to Finnish my route once.

You didn't fail mate you were ill. Next time, its not going any where, but keep the dad jokes up...😂😂🍻👍

I hope you feel better fast.

Yeah it's a nice spot isn't it.
@MG-bs5mr aye it was good man, we even went a wee walk along eh beach in the rain 😂😂👌
@@assassinschris I hate to rub it in but I was a wee bit sun burnt 😬🤣
@MG-bs5mr I practically had trenchfoot from my visit there ,🤣🤣🤣
@@assassinschris 🤣👍
You didn’t fail! Not your fault you became ill. Food poisoning etc can be so random. The trail will still be there when you’re ready.

Chin up mate i failed twice due to blisters.I know use trail runners apart from winter conditions
Good effort, such a shame you got sick. Definitely the right choice though to stop.
Thinking of doing the Westhighland Way as my first long-distance hike! But I was cold just watching this...
100% give it a go, summers probably a better time to attempt it 😂😂

Nollag Christel.. Bliadhna Mhath Ur.. Scottish Gaelic for Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year from
William and Jen💜💙🕊️
oh no, i'm so sorry Gregor. :(
the West Highland Way will be ready for you next time.
That's bad luck Greggor. I'd imagine the trip took a lot of planning only for it to end early. Shitty water you picked up on the way perhaps? I couldn't see on the video when you were filling up, but perhaps invest in a water filter. Looking forward to the next time.
Think it was just a sickness bug and unfortunate timing tbh. I filter all my water but who knows. Thanks for the support😊
You did not fail buddy, you won, as you live to walk another day.
Oh no.... hope you feel better quick. Probably dodgy water in that little village. Stay rested. Get well😊
Next time. You did the right thing well done love your videos 😊
Never a failure a great experience for you you’ll be back stronger than ever we never appreciate that we feel great most days and are able to live our life’s until we are sick it’s a great lesson appreciate your life when you are healthy young man 👨 Look forward to your return 👍
Thanks mate, I’ll be back soon enough😊
Good decision..another time. Maybe something in the water? I avoid water courses near habitation or farmland even when using a filter.
Chin up lad...nxt time awaits..🏴
Not a fail. Common sense is never a fail.
A lot of people get sick on the stretch along the Loch. It is tough and some dodgy water sources. My first time on the way was when it first opened. I was 14. We got just past Balmaha on day 1 when a storm hit. That was it we bailed to a B&B and got the bus home as we were skint from the B&B😂
Hope you are feeling better now.
It happens to me best of us, the whw will still be there tomorrow, safety first
I just watched Rewilding Jude also from Scotland, he could help you out, I think he is kind much love and merry xmas from Alkmaar, The Netherlands ❤
Hope yer better..
Gutted mate I did it in agustust and got just past loch lomond inversnaid is it ? And I had to do half of loch lomond from were u stoped spewing that was a hard day when I woke up still spewing the day day I called it quits and headed home also 😢
Better to have tried and failed than never having ever tried.Well done young man
Well said mate, a great way to look at it👍
You didn't mention feeling unwell until right towards the end of the video. You were simply manning up! Correct call to make the sensible decision. So, these were the "bonny, bonny banks of Loch Lomond"? We were taught to sing this in Class Music on the southern tip of Africa, in Cape Town!
Never a fail mate. Atb
Wait until next year same time. Buy Turmac meals through the year so you’re stocked up. I ken they’re not cheap but you could live off one a day and it would weigh little.
But a different take on the WHW so go for it again! 😉
