It seems like there are simply too many mandatory battles. That, combined with Togepi's level-up group is what caused the major 'issues.' Still, it's strange that Togepi was doing so much damage. Like, in your Rattata run, it wasn't doing much at all by the Elite Four. I don't know. It just felt like Togepi was doing too much damage for its stats. Then again, these Pokemon are 1/2 to 2/3s your level and you are 3 shotting them. So, I dunno...
Love to see another video! I enjoy watching every one you’re putting out! Would love to see a Red/Blue Pinsir run! My favourite gen 1 and some decent stats for hopefully a good run!
Since you're banking for winning with 5turn rollout anyway, why not use Safeguard to prevent Sleep for 5 turns and use a Berry or an item to increase your attacking power or accuracy? Since the most dangerous part is Haunter using Rollout 1 and Curse ticking 25%, an ordinary Berry could have very well saved you
He has an odd number of health so no matter what, he gets 5 turns of curse before he dies. A berry heals for 10 hp, which is nowhere near the 21 health he would need to survive a 6th tick of curse.
Chuck got my Typhlosion with surf. He had swept the rest of my poorly trained team so I sent Togepi last, ready to accept my fate. Chuck's move misses, I go metronome and boom hyper beam and I win. Togepi goes up a bunch of levels and it evolves. One of the only battles I remember from my childhood lol
i have just started a play of that, i am loving it so far, nice to start with Houndour instead of waiting till beyond the halfway point, seriously, what the f**k was with adding NEW pokeomon, into the PREVIOUIS region? they clearly thought it was fine cos HG/SS KEPT IT!
.. I'm shocked for just how well Togepi did, but I guess it makes some sense considering just how versatile it's learnset can be, and partially because of how wonky Johto can be in terms of Levels. Would love to see a redo of this in gen 3 - I feel like Togepi would likely struggle in Emerald a bit more than FR/LG due to Brawly, Norman, Tate/Liza and hell, maybe even some of the E4 like Phoebe.

Ironically, during the anime Jesse and James managed to bring Togepi to Giovanni. He didn't want it. He may have changed his mind had he known how powerful it was! Love the content!! Keep up the amazing work!!! Have a great day!!!
GSC always feels like they originally intended the Elite Four to be challenged after having ALL SIXTEEN badges, given the weird experience curve. It would explain a bit about the Kanto gym levels and the difficulty in grinding to be on par with the Elite Four after just Johto.
Love this run. The first time I beat the elite 4 on crystal as a kid was because my last pokemon in my party, a level 9 Togepi, managed to get a damaging move with metronome on Lance's last Dragonite while he was recharging his hyperbeam. This was after killing my Feraligatr which had left him with what must have been 1 hp.
I mean, I would think for a more challenging Gen 2 solo run, just go for something that's very weak and can't learn Rollout. But yeah, this was awesome to behold. Saw the Fire Blast coming, too- I've taught that to Togepi on ingame teams in the past. Most recent time was in Gold when G/S came out for the 3DS Virtual Console. It let Togepi contribute heavily to my victory over Morty, after which it finally evolved into a Togetic. It was a cool moment.
have you ever considered trying out "crystal clear"? its a romhack of crystal that lets you start in any town (johto OR kanto), has level scaling gyms and gym rematches, trainers levels scale (wild pokemons do NOT), character customization, and even a built in nuzlocke mode if you felt inclined. tms arent infinite use, but theyre all still renewable (you have access to more tms at the dept stores as you get more badges) and theres a move relearner. theres also 3 tutors: one for kanto only tm moves (so any gen 1 mons can still learn their gen 1 tm moves), one for event-exclusive moves, and one known as the "battle tutor," which is basically "hey why doesnt X learn Y? here i made it so X can learn Y :)" oh and ofc all 251 mons are catchable. theres even a "tradeback guy" in the dept store who will let you do trade evos. i could go on and on and still not mention all the added features QoL stuff. but. yeah. id highly recommend taking a look!
The Pokemon randomizer I use allows you to increase the levels of all the trainers by up to 50% (so a level 40 Pokemon becomes level 60). It might be fun to try that on a gsc game and use like Mewtwo or something.
Jrose: No one: "Jrose, I'm super sus of your RNG." Legit if people question your integrity after *ALL* the challenges you've done, all the time you've wasted on many Magikarp runs, the time you're *going* to probably waste on Weedle, just, man.
I started watching Poketubers with you and found many more thanks to you. This video was nuts because yeah togepi but its crazy how make mons I never thought could work, work. I started a Nuzlock because you managed to do one and it didnt seem so bad, so yeah thanks for starting a youtube page.

Jrose, you are truly one of the greatest content creators of all times. I watch each video a minimum of 2 times and I can't wait to see what all else comes from this channel.
I randomly found this video on my feed and it just makes me so happy that people still make content on the second gen pokemon games
Another thing that is wild watching this is realizing Gold and Silver really had their own set of sprites for each Pokémon.
Right? The amount of effort they put into this game alone is insane. It sucks to think about how much you hear about how game freak dev's are always over worked and spread super thin these days, yet their games feel like they have barely half the love and care that gen 2 had. Hopefully SV changes that
@@AS34N
Generation 2 was supposed to be the finalé to the series; that's why the final boss is _You_ from the previous game.
Once the GameBoy Advance was developed, Nintendo was instantly "oh we NEED a Pokémon game for this", and made _Creatures Inc._ start again; which, as nice as some of the other games can be, means none of them have as much care & dedication Generation 2 had.
G/S is my favorite generation, nothing will ever surpass it in my eyes.
And Crystal's sprites are much better
@@haroldhall1517 They used some of the better ones like Silver Gyarados but some of the worse ones like Gold Lugia. Gold in general had worse sprites I think
Thank you for all your videos!! I have been a fan for years! Glad you are back on a weekly basis!!
Now wonders where the move 'Egg Bomb' came from.
Love watching these challenge runs. Making me want to go back and play games I haven't touched in over a decade!
I just finished your nuzlocke video and now I see this, what a great night for some JRose content!
Wow pleasantly surprised by Togepi! Always love the videos, hope you're having a blast making them :)
This was an egg-cellent run! 🍳🥚
I thought about doing this run but I learned it is such a nightmare to grind a metronome run of this so I kinda stopped at ecruteak
I did learn about memento being a Gen 2 move that's fun to reset
Bruno has almost as many wins in this challenge as the entire red/blue solo series
"Miltank is confused, Im in love and cant attack,"
😂😂😂
Jrose my man, back with another absolute banger. Thank you for the endlessly fun videos and your cool personality. ^-^ Hope you're well!
Got to see the first bit of the run live; just wish I'd been able to stay awake to watch the whole thing!
Love the Jhoto content lately, you've been on a tear lately with the content!
I get so excited after I see you upload jrose, I gasped and went TOGEPI then clicked the video so fast 🤣🤣🤣
It's all from Return with SameTypeAttackBonus.
Return has 102 base power + STAB + Plain badge adding another +10%. It's a 167 base power move, insanely strong
I am not surprised you completed this, I am surprised just how well Togepi did though, nice video
Even when he isn't technically badge boost glitching he still finds a strategy to raise his stats. Bravo!
If you're looking for a more balanced and flexible gen 2 check out Crystal Clear. Would love to see you do a run on there. Great vid as always.
i have just started a play of that, i am loving it so far, nice to start with Houndour instead of waiting till beyond the halfway point, seriously, what the f**k was with adding NEW pokeomon, into the PREVIOUIS region?
they clearly thought it was fine cos HG/SS KEPT IT!
You're a good egg, Jrose!
Yeah any Pokémon with Return and Rollout easily beats this game. Also he was pretty overleveled the whole time.
My brother and I used to stomp the blue edition elite four with a metronome clefable in the old days
Early game metronome actually looks really fun
you actually got a standing ovation from me in front of my computer screen for this last battle! damn, that was well done! bravo, mr. jrose!
watching these are crazy for me. not only the memories this shit brings back but how the hell are you still doing these??? the content literally doesnt get old at all
Gen 2 was terrible and so are you
The content never gets old just like how starting over a new Pokemon game game never game never gets old.
Every new game is a the start of a new adventure, full of possibilities.
The anime order for the Kanto Gyms was a nice touch, excellent vid once again dude.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! I friggin love Togepi! Thank you for this :D I’m really enjoying these
Bruno Two-no, Rival Five-al... what's next, Giovanni Three-o-vanni?
Return is so powerful in-game as it hits all but 3 types normally plus over 100 attack stat
Holy hell, did I can myself when you pulled out the Detect Curse combo. Such a troll moveset to use against two turn attacks. Excellent vid!
"We have a *NICE* amount of HP left" -- Trust me JRose, I noticed that too!
That subscribe animation is pretty frigging cool subtle, yet noticeable and also tasteful... well done.
This is a hood classic
I busted out laughing when togepi used self destruct lol
tOgePi. You can't spell Togepi without OP!
I'm excited to see Togepi go Super Saiyan and wreck Gen 2. LET'S DO IT!
This is top tier content right here. Each video just keeps getting better.
Metronome is just hilarious. It's like during the show Metalocalypse when the band gets some mail. Nathan Explosion is going through the mail and says "Naked lady fan mail. Could be awesome, could be horrible." Metronome really is the same. Could be awesome, could be horrible. But that's part of the fun.
This was way too entertaining 😂. I'm an old school gamer so gen 1 and 2 are very nostalgic for me. Now do a Missingno in the impossible series already! Lol
I wondered why you went for headbutt instead of double edge on poliwrath that one time. My only thought was Dynamic punch is going to ohko you either way lol
This run was egg-cellent! Apparently Togepi is eggs-tra good. It egg-ceeded my eggs-pectations.
I was literally actively looking for a good togepi run to watch like two days ago, out of what I found by far most exciting no disrespect to others, please do Togekiss in the future, I wanna see how good Serene Grace could be!?! (If you want anyhow :'> )
Another great video as always. Never stop making these
The sprites in this gen were on point
Bruh why did i get an hour long ad. It had the option to skip after 5 but wtf
Against Bugsy you maybe should have used Swift for last attack to guarantee killing the Scyther. Great vídeo as always!
Honestly an elite 4 Round 2 ala FRLG would’ve made a ton of sense.
Crystal Clear fixes that.
@@ShinyTillDawn I LOVED Crystal Clear
love the openness
Fun fact: in a nuzlocke with level caps, you do the ice gym before the Steel gym.
Another great run ;)
Can't wait for the scyther vs pinser rivalry to be settled 👌
Let's go team scyther 👌
Keep up the great work 😁
> Togepi used Self-destruct!
Like an egg in a microwave.
The RNG Gods have blessed our scrambled egg boi on this day
have you ever considered trying out "crystal clear"? its a romhack of crystal that lets you start in any town (johto OR kanto), has level scaling gyms and gym rematches, trainers levels scale (wild pokemons do NOT), character customization, and even a built in nuzlocke mode if you felt inclined.
tms arent infinite use, but theyre all still renewable (you have access to more tms at the dept stores as you get more badges) and theres a move relearner.
theres also 3 tutors: one for kanto only tm moves (so any gen 1 mons can still learn their gen 1 tm moves), one for event-exclusive moves, and one known as the "battle tutor," which is basically "hey why doesnt X learn Y? here i made it so X can learn Y :)"
oh and ofc all 251 mons are catchable. theres even a "tradeback guy" in the dept store who will let you do trade evos.
i could go on and on and still not mention all the added features QoL stuff. but. yeah. id highly recommend taking a look!
The Pokemon randomizer I use allows you to increase the levels of all the trainers by up to 50% (so a level 40 Pokemon becomes level 60). It might be fun to try that on a gsc game and use like Mewtwo or something.
That subscribe button interaction is amazing! Love the extra work!
Jrose:
No one: "Jrose, I'm super sus of your RNG."
Legit if people question your integrity after *ALL* the challenges you've done, all the time you've wasted on many Magikarp runs, the time you're *going* to probably waste on Weedle, just, man.
I started watching Poketubers with you and found many more thanks to you. This video was nuts because yeah togepi but its crazy how make mons I never thought could work, work. I started a Nuzlock because you managed to do one and it didnt seem so bad, so yeah thanks for starting a youtube page.
Same
Any Pokémon with a good move pool and level ups fast like Togepi will do well.
Kind of a shame you got rid of metronome so early, would have been fun to see it being used for longer
Jrose11 likes consistency.
Loved using Togetic in G/S. It was my favourite Pokemon for years cuz of how good it was.
This says less about togepi and more about gsc, tbh. Would love to see more adv runs, where Pokémon actually get moves
Super excited to see you pull this off jrose
