Not Disney totally forgetting that Tangled has a whole ass kingdom called Corona, Tangleton made me gag a little bit as a fan of the movie and the show.
They do have the kingdom of Corona on the map, but I seriously have no idea what Tangleton is. Plus the map is kinda ridiculous and doesn't really make sense. (Though I doubt it was actually supposed to be looked over-)
can you imagine waking up after having died as a disney villain and it turns out they only resurrected you to put you on a *PRISON ISLAND* ?? And ALSO, any of your kids will be restricted to the prison island as well, like what the FUCK
Tbf, it's not like if those villains didn't deserve it. The kids on the other hand DID NOT. And I'm much more preocupied with stuff like imprisoning Monstro or, let's see what was it? Ah yes, the FRICKIN GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD!!!

@@madnessarcade7447 Even so, why is he not at all concerned about the fact that she is apparently willing to mind-control people into dating her. This should concern him lol
I don’t think that Evie’s plot line with Chad was about her being afraid to be smart because she thought it would intimidate boys. I think that it was more about her not having confidence in her intelligence because she was taught by her mother that being beautiful and finding a rich prince was all that mattered. She put all of her focus on being “a pretty face” and so she never really considered that she even *could* be smart. That’s why she felt the need to cheat on the first place; because she didn’t think that she was smart enough to get the right answers on her own. When Chad started giving her attention, she felt like she found her prince and would finally make her mother proud. She didn’t really care about *why* he was “interested” in her, (she even told him that she wasn’t that smart and that she used her magic mirror) and therefore she didn’t realize that he was only using her until it was too late. Then she lost her prince, along with what she felt like was her only means of passing her test, and her confidence was shot. So getting that B+ was her first indication that she was actually intelligent and could do this on her own.
I agree with you. This isn't my personal experience, but I definitely know girls who were subtly (and sometimes not-so-subtly) told by their parents that their looks were what mattered the most. Given that the Evil Queen not only prioritizes appearance to a fault, but probably also married into wealth and power on the basis of her looks, she definitely would teach her daughters that beauty is the most and only important thing. I've seen situations where a really beautiful but superficial mother has a daughter who is less beautiful and/or cares way less about her looks. It gets especially ugly (no pun intended) when the mother puts down her daughter's talents and interests because she thinks those things are less important, and can't fathom her daughter being genuinely interested in them.
Agreed, i loved their relationship. I also love the fan theory that Jay is actually Jasmine and Aladdin's son that Jafar stole and raised as a villian, which is why hes good at physical stuff, and not at magic like Jafar. Its like the.writers have NEVER seen Aladdin@starrsmith3810

@@juliusweaver3198 now that you mention it, yeah, it was such a missed opportunity. And also the most obvious route they could have gone, so no idea why they didn't
i never understood why they chose to go with belle and the beast for the king and queen + our love interest's parents. given that cinderella's castle is a icon of the disney brand, i feel like cinderella and prince charming should have been the go-to. plus, having beauty and the beast at the forefront of the mind just constantly reminds me of the lackluster worldbuilding regarding auradon. like, beauty and the beast takes place in france. belle and adam are french. in descendants itself, ben sings be our guest and mentions france in the lyrics. does france exist in the descendants canon?? did they rename france to auradon? you can hand wave it off with most of the other characters, because their settings are "vaugely european", but it felt strange to put emphasis on beauty and the beast (+ mulan, with lonnie bringing up her mother and "the war". does china exist in the descendants extended universe??) when it's one of the few disney princess movies with a setting based in the real world. edit: having thought about this, a much better film to center for the parents of the main love interest would have been either cinderella (castle is an icon of the disney brand, fairy godmother is important to the story), sleeping beauty (because mal is the daughter of maleficent, so her getting together with the son of sleeping beauty would create drama), or snow white (the first feature length disney film). batb may be my favorite, but one of those three would have made so much more sense.
@@sarah_serif upon checking the descendants wiki, it lists that lonnie's home region was "formed out of china" ???? no source on it, no clue where they're getting that from. could find nothing on the wiki about france...
Yeah + it is weird to me that of all people, they chose as rulers the ones who has a story about redemption. You'd think that someone who has been cursed for being selfish and then has to learn to not be selfish to find true love and break the curse... would recognize that people are not born evil and that everybody can be or become good, right? And won't base his entire politics on the idea thay it is not the case?
It might be to incorporate Ben's beast side as a dichotomy because he's a "monster". Did they ever explain why Adam's "beast" is genetically passed down to Ben, because Adam was born human and cursed into the beast???
@@summeryick5641 never asked it to myself but now I have a theory and that will be my headcanon. Ben was conceived when Adam was still a beast. And I will keep the joke that comes to my mind in case children are reading.
I didn't expect this rewatch to result in the realization that Mal ridded Auradon Prep of f*ck ass bobs ..... because that was definitely what Jane and Lonnie had

The Beast was effectively imprisoned in his home as a child, and it was at least partly his parents' fault because they raised him. So for him to turn around and imprison a bunch of children on an island because their parents were bad is... very depressingly on brand. Cycle of abuse and all that. edit: fixed a typo edit 2: another typo
Maybe the king, made a deal. If they raise the kids themselves the kids can't leave but if they're given up to the king as babies, they can come and go once they're old enough. But the villains wanted servants to help them escape so they didn't release em But I'm just guessing
It’s weird that Audrey didn’t have her own character arc in Descendants 3, what with the hint in the beginning with her grandmother. It could’ve been a parallel to Mal’s where she realizes that she doesn’t have the same desires as her family.
EVERY TIME I talk about these movies to someone I have to bring up the canon necromancy bit because idk how to tell you this buddy but if you're raising the dead with unholy nature-defying dark arts just to throw them in a non-foolproof potentially escapable jail I think that should be an indicator its just not a good idea
And really, what was the point? At least most of these villains were dead so they couldn't do further harm but resurrecting them just to put them into a prison is a terrible idea and will just piss them off more. And when the barrier breaks (or drops), those villains will want revenge.
I always think about what you both said like why and my biggest question is who met who and decided all this and what was the price for it ESPECIALLY raising the dead Genie was specifically detailed about how it wasn’t pretty doing that and magically gave a gruesome example of it looked when laying down the rules to Aladdin…
@@juliusweaver3198especially with some of the more magically inclined villains. Shadow Man was dragged to hell, Horned King was completely eviscerated, Hades was dragged into the depths of the underworld, Evil Queen was destroyed by falling off a cliff due to lightning, and Gaston fell into a massive ravine. Who has the power to ressurect these villains, why would they, and how does puting them in an eternal purgatory fix anything???
I honestly feel like they were better off just retconning the villain’s deaths in these movies. like these movies already bend the canon of every movie featured in it, what’s stopping them from just saying the villains were only imprisoned or something
That’s what happens when you limit and half ass creativity 🤦🏾♂️ it could’ve been waaaaaaaaay better and more detailed and designed so much better with better explanations and plot but no
i feel like cruella is such an odd villain lore wise to trap on this prison island. like you have magical archmages who have tried to curse royalty and take over kingdoms and then you have some rich woman with unethical choices in clothing like the scale they have to choose whether someone is a villain and deserved to be resurrected and tossed onto a prison island is real wide ngl. like, do you think any prisoner of the kingdoms gets thrown on this island? you get cought shoplifting and all of a sudden you get sent to live in poverty with an evil mage who can turn into a dragon like whats the justice system of this country like
I'm pretty sure that question is literally why Aladdin isn't in the movies. Like, he is undeniably the hero in his story, but he's also doing something illegal (and illegal=bad since it's a children's series), so I think they just kind of sidestepped that issue by making Jafar's son embody Aladdin's bad traits (briefly) and just not mentioning the rest of the movie.
I had the same thoughts about the Wicked Stepsisters. Like sure the stepmother is guilty of child abuse but at most the stepsisters were just bad people. is being a bitch illegal? Cinderella's whole thing was being kind and humble what were her thoughts on the matter?
most of the other villains were in stories where the main character either is or becomes royalty, so im imagining its rich powerful people doing awful things to be petty but cruella makes no sense?? like who even told belle and the beast that she existed?? one of the dogs???

Okay not the biggest issue by any means but, why would Lonnie’s mom, Mulan from Han Dynasty China, be baking chocolate chip cookies for her on a bad day. Correct me if I’m wrong, that just seems a bit out of place.
This is what I thought when I first watched the movie and I was literally EIGHT YEARS OLD and thinking “what?? why would she be doing that??” I took it serious 💀
Hades has a point about Audrey being forgiven but he was definitely the wrong person to tell them. It should have been Uma or someone who didn't try killing his nephew for power. Also I hate how Mal just forgave Hades for being an absent father. Yeah people forgive their parents for crazy things all the time but she made it very clear that him being absent was deeply traumatic for her. I think they should have had it so Maleficent forbid Hades from seeing Mal so she could mold her into her own image and we could have had an exchange like this instead: "You abandoned me when I was a baby!" "Your mom wouldn't let me be around you, I didn't have a choice"
Dude i think about this every time I've watched the 3rd movie. And not only that but they butchered his character too. The hades in descendents shares almost none of the same personality as the original and I feel like it consistently happened.
Dove Cameron having chemistry with basically everyone BUT Mitchell Hope is still so freaking hilarious to me. 🤣 Also the sapphic vibes of the Descendants franchise are *exquisite*.~
I have to say, it bothers me to no end that Mal’s hair has purple ends in the second movie. I think it’s supposed to be like she dyed her hair blonde and the purple is from it growing it out…but that is not how that works. Like at all. Her roots would be purple, not the tips.
is she meant to be naturally purple-haired? legit asking, idk. I assumed the implication was that Mal normally keeps her hair purple dyed, and so the ends are because she’s been growing out naturally blonde hair. I’ve thought too much about this now
@thatlycantomboy yes she is meant to be naturally purple, just like Evie is naturally blue. But to show that she's changed and to conform to the "princess way," she dyed it white and kept the tips purple to have a little part of who she was before Ben.
@@tealhiidi don't think she's meant to be naturally purple or evie is naturally blue though. in the second movie mal mentioned that dizzy was the one who initially dyed evies hair on the isle, and in the third movie they both have visible roots. im not 100% sure on this though if it was stated otherwise
Okay so I immediately got bad vibes from Beast “somehow” uniting multiple kingdoms under his realm, since historically that kinda stuff takes an extreme amount of violence. Everything managed to get somehow worse when they revealed he had absolute authority over the other states, and was immediately elected president (presumably for life) after “founding” the union meaning he wrote the constitution and can probably amend it will. The prison colony where children were imprisoned for being descendants of political opponents didn’t help either.
O.M.G Yes!!! You know he only crowned Ben at 16 because he was getting pushed to step down and he wanted to keep the power in the family and within arms reach.
I really think given all that, that the words "got himself elected king" were picked very carefully (the writing of these series is a complete mess, but I feel like at least the real world parallel and the way it's explained in story were intentional and thought out). No one elected this man, he elected himself fr
Didn't fully watch the series, but I suspected the kids staying on the island being the parents fault not so much the king. . Like the king probably asked if they wanted to release em but they would be raised by someone else but if they raise em themselves they can't leave
@@dandywaysofliving You just can’t leave newborns on a prison island though? Even if the parents say that it’s fine and cool, _your_ the king, you are in charge, leaving the children in an open air prison and then pushing back and getting nervous when they get introduced to society for the first time is being a bad ruler. Also, if they have behavior issues and commit crimes, that’s kind of partially your fault since you left them with no way of contacting the outside world and no other influence and authority figures then the criminals you deemed evil and enough of a problem to bring back to life and trap them in the worlds most secure prison with no guards from birth to experience lifelong abuse and extreme poverty and then expect them to come out of that with outstanding morals? He fully created the problems he and the rest of that kingdom are currently experiencing and left it for a sixteen year old who still answers to his parents to fix for an entire country.
Horrible belated realization is that Disney just took all the bullet points from Descendants and handed them to Yana Toboso to make Twisted Wonderland, and it actually worked.
There's two things that really piss me off with the franchise 1st how much of the astetic and characterization it's taken from the monster high concept (the wild hair colors, the "edgy" clothes, the characters having puny names that are based on their parents names) 2nd: how most people in Auradon seem like snooby jerk's by keeping so many inocent people in the island and treating them like shit when they're supposed to be the beloved Disney heroes we know so well, the worst example of this is Lonnie that despite been one of the nicest people in Auradon she acts really shallow and worry about her appearance in the frist movie
disney, of all companies, accidentaly creating a great allegory for how we treat native people in ex colonized countries (and minorities in our own countries) will never not be funny to me. because that's how it works right? speaking from my european prespective, we act all high and mighty, while actively harming the countries we say are third world. and those countries are that way now due to the way we fucked them up during the colonization times. we act like we're civilized and they're barbaric, when we're the ones using them for modern slavery, profiting off of child labour and exploiting all their resources. we do all this while portraying ourselves as the heroes who will eventually save those coutries, as long as they assimilate perfectly to our culture and leave anything related to their culture and ethnicity behind, of course.
Cameron Boyce’s death gets to me on a personal level. He died from the same thing I had when I was a kid, I knew him from Jessie and these movies, and he wasn’t that far from my age at the time. He died far too young. He was a talented kid.
I’m choosing to believe that jay and aziz were going to be romatic interests for eachother but bc it was 2015 they cut that concept and didn’t let it happen. Booboo Stewart is bi I believe and has done other MLM projects before so it makes a lot more sense than them just kinda being buddies
I’ve never seen these movies or read the books, so I might be biased based on the fact that I’ve only seen TH-cam analyses of them, but the whole premise of this seems horrifying. Like, imagine your entire life plot is about redemption and growing from a hateful person into someone changed by love, but then you bring dozens of villains back from the dead so you can torture them for things they’ve already DIED from, PLUS imprisoning and traumatizing their innocent CHILDREN for things their parents did. I think it doesn't make sense for Belle to be less inviting to villains, because the beast literally is a story of "don't judge a book by it's cover". This is literally the Disney version. She tolerated him until they fell in love. wtf
lol this franchise is really banking on its audience not understanding that "unification" is the whitewashed word for "conquering" that is exclusively used by the historians of the conquering nation. and hey, that seems like a safe bet to me
I love that the wicked stepsisters are on the isle and the implications that it brings. They weren't evil or anything just mean people. Did Auradon outlaw being a bitch? At what magnitude of bitchiness do you get imprisoned?
Well, in fairness, maybe they outlawed child abuse AND have a "Punish-The-Family- For-One-Persons-Crime" type thing? Seems on-brand given the whole prison island thing.
my personal relationship headcanon is that on the isle, harry and jay were kinda secretly hooking up, secretly because uma and mal were rivals since they were 10, that was established. and so they were together-ish you know, as much as you can be in a place where love is frowned upon, so you know, like they were hanging out but not labeling it. anyway, when jay left for the isle, they had a fight and broke up. then in movie 3, because they're forced to team up, they have to talk, which leads to them making up and are ongood terms again. and jay meets gil, and they bond and decide to travel together, and during that year of traveling they fall in love, and it's adorable
Auradon functions 100% on Late Roman Republic/Early Roman Empire rules. that's how you get things like entire countries being redefined as something more like city-states or provinces, totally-legit "democratically" "elected" Kings passing on the throne to their children, citizenship being based on allegiance (which often turns into being based on usefulness to those in power), a deeply multicultural & diverse society that still has a (equally diverse) stratified underclass, etc etc. it's Rome. Auradon is if someone scooped all of Disney off of the tip of Florida and replaced it with Rome.
I didn't like the introduction of Celia, like her character was fine, but the had already introduced Freddy (her older sister, apparently) who was voiced by China Anne McClain in Wicked World. However China was playing Uma in the live action so they couldn't use her character. And they portrayed Dr. Faciliar soooo differently. It showed that he and Celia had a Father/Daughter relationship, when Freddy had implied that he was neglectful to her, a man obessed with his past, like he was just like the main 4's parents. I know it was all swept to the side, but that inconsistency drove me insane. Just like how they established characters in the books and substituted them for different ones in the movie. Like how many kids do Captain Hook, and Gaston have? Or like how may siblings does Mal have through Hades that she never acknowledged? It's just so frustrating how uncoordinated the end of the franchise was.
I def peeped that too ngl I was like is this the same voodoo doctor was Freddy told us about or did I misheard her…. What gets me is wicked world is canon between movies yet the other characters were never acknowledged or mentioned Freddy Jordan Zevon Ali Cj hook and Rapunzel daughter who hair was only shown briefly like twice
Rewatching this, i think the most fucked up thing in the entire series is the relationship between Chad/Cinderella and Dizzy. As in, there isnt one. The character *most* defined by knowing what its like to grow up abused, in seclusion, and neglected hy family just doesnt spare a thought for her niece living in squalor. Nor does her son care about his cousin.
I think they’re going to do something about it in the 5th movie. Rise of Red seemed to be bringing up themes about family. Cinderella’s daughter(Chad’s younger sister) goes back in time, and sees how her mom is treated by Lady Tremaine. I’m pretty sure we see a character who’s supposed to be Drisela in the background of one of the scenes.
It drives me crazy that Audrey, of her own volition, did almost all the same things that malificent did for just selfish reasons and gets off with an “I’m sorry.” She needs to be sent to the isle! It’s only right
Except she didn’t. All she did was steal the scepter and do some small things (turn mal into a hag, and turn people to stone, which was easily reversed). You’re forgetting that Mal stole her boyfriend, it’s only right to seek for revenge
i was always curious as to how much info the author was given before writing the books because a lot of book details are in the movies like you said, but you would never know it if you hadn't read them. also in book one, there was a very weird scene where carlos was able to break the barrier long enough for the tv to have channels other than the official auradon news channel, and i think canonly in the book they're saying that disney channel is a thing, because carlos was describing a tv show about twins that look exactly like mal but they're blond, and i was like okay to dove was already cast as mal, but why add this detail like it's so random, what do you mean they have disney channel?
one thing that i (as a brazilian) find funny is that Mal means “bad” or “evil” in portuguese, otherwise Bem (almost Ben) means “good”, so they’re literally the opposite of each other kinda of a yin-yang thing
i feel like some of the plotholes in descendants could’ve been solved if instead of everyone being disney character’s kids, some of them were grandkids. like it would at least solve the whole “why did all of these disney characters have kids at the same time” dilemma
sure, but in the storied Disney canon he’s an outright villain, however. Y’know, that’s the Hades hat soul-enslaves Meg, tries to merc Herc? …honestly pretty surprised that Disney recognized 1999’s Hercules at all in these movies

My favourite thing about these movies was 100% the costume designs, specifically the costumes for the residents of the isle of the lost, they're just so vibrant and fun.
So evie being the daughter of evil queen makes her snow whites step sister, and evil queen wanting evie to marry a rich prince would mean that she could've just set snow white up with someone and became richer and forget about the whole beauty contest. Also, evie having a ship dynamic with dopys son, makes a really complicated family tree, considering she also probably goes to school with snow whites daughter and that make her essentially evies niece, and then snow white also is probably still close with the seven dwarves so then that makes things even more confusing. To summarize: evie dates her sister's friend's child

"I was informed very early on...by the head of Disney Channel, Gary Marsh, that the reason this project has taken so long was because Disney Corporate had to approve of somebody officially embellishing on the original stories, because that is what we're doing," Dove explained. "Anything else, like Once Upon a Time, hasn't actually been an official embellishment on the story," she continued, "We. Are. Canon." Descendants was actually the first time Disney was officially touching the classic tales of their movies. (By touching they mean continuing the continuity remakes don’t count) "That's why it took so long, because apparently, Disney corporate was like 'That's a terrible idea, we don't want to mess with the original stuff.' And so [Gary] told me that. He was like, 'This is the first time that this is ever going to happen.'" Dove adds, "Disney Channel is it's own thing, it's own beast, so to be told you're involved in the classics is like, there's nothing more delicious than that. I think that's why we're all so invested in the series and the franchise itself because it's the first time!" I love how they made a franchise about Disney Character's children, and there is no sign of Melody, Ariel's canonical daughter. Though the existence of Ariel's niece do at least imply that they'll acknowledge it by not acknowledging it and deliberately not giving Ariel any onscreen descendant for this, which is a weird attention to detail that the franchise usually lacks

I will say my favorite part of the whole series was the song "Queen of Mean." I would play it on a loop and just fell in love with the song. It's still iconic to me
She didn't even need fillers or anything. She was already incredibly beautiful. I remember seeing her in some snow sport movie long before Descendants and thought "Wow! She looks like an angel come to life!" I suppose it says a lot about the industry or humanity that even someone as naturally stunning as Dove has things they're insecure about. It's sad, really, when there's plenty of young girls and mtf's that would love to look like Dove and Dove would apparently rather look like Kylie Jenner. Everyone is beautiful in their own unique way, the inner beauty is what matters most of all, and we really need to stop trying to fix what isn't broken and stop comparing ourselves to others. Would a rainbow be as beautiful if every color were the same?
It's her body and her choice. And besides, what does it matter if someone is getting filler or plastic surgery if it's for their own happiness and not someone else's.
@@michaelinthebathroom7560 I think there's reason to doubt that a popular teen actress at Disney got lip filler completely unpressured and of her own desire. The industry is rough as hell on young women.
i’ve been obsessed with this trilogy of movies for so long. like i don’t even know why. i used to dedicate so much of my time to re-writing the janky plot and reworking the characters a little (just to personal taste) and i still find myself humming the songs and wanting to rewatch the movies. what a ridiculous set of movies. i can’t help but be so fond of it.
No one ever tried to trick/force me into doing their homework in High School. I was smart and cute, so the motive was there if you're a 40 year old screenwriter, but in real life the most I'd get is "can I copy that?" If I said 'no' that was it. Also, I didn't really have any guys create some elaborate methods to get me to go out with them. Either talking to a girl is like the scariest thing in the world, or they're just up front with their flirting. Honestly I can't believe that most teen show writers can't remember what it was like. Really, I think what it all comes down to is that most writers forget is that teenagers are more concerned about what's going on in their own lives to be bothered with anyone else. But that isn't interesting. Seeing a bunch of people either avoiding conversation or else trying to be the center of attention to the point of annoyance isn't good drama. So yeah, unless you're some uber prick no one is forcing people to do assignments for them. At best, you're assigned a group activity and now you have to do everything because your team mates are unreliable morons. If a bully is going to do anything, it's make fun of you or try to fight you. They ain't looking for an A in class. Also I think they did that long battle because that set is freaking amazing and probably expensive. So the director is like "we're using this mother f*cker."
uhmm im in highschool and i agree but also like no one wants to watch realistic teen shows they're fucking boring and we already know what that is like.
I will admit that I really like Mal's outfits in the third movie because all of them have some kind of dragonic element to them. Scale patterns, wings, dragon pendants etc. I'm a sucker for both cool outfits and dragons, and I thought this was a really nice touch. There was EFFORT put into these movies! Real, honest effort!
1:23:10 literally lmaooo at some point Beast needed to step in cos Aurodon is now at massive risk bcos of bringing down the barrier. and i HATE that they dont frame it as the kids parents want to change, it's the kids who reach out to these toxic, absive parents who up to this moment have shown literally no interest in changing or fostering healthy relationships w their kids. it's so upsetting and angering cos what does that teach the kids who loved these characters bcos of the underlying absive parents storyline. i still love descendants but as i've gotten older i realized the actual flaws
I was weirdly saddened by Cameron’s death. Like, i’d never had a strong fixation or anything, and i wasn’t a huge fan of anything he was in, but it sent me into a depressive spiral for 3 months. Anyone else get something like that? Not just for him, like I’ve heard it for robin Williams.
This is literally why everafter high was so much more clever about why all these different stories co-existing at the same time. Everyone must play a specific role or else there might be chaos within the kingdom. It acknowledges the balance of good and evil which is why children of villains and heroes go to the same school, but villains are still discriminated against despite not having a choice in the matter. I love ever after and i think its so much more compelling that monster high ever was. It sucks that it got screwed over the way it did.
Yes! Raven was the first to refuse to go along with things and didn't want to be evil. Apple White being upset that Raven didn't want to poison her was lowkey hilarious. C.A Cupid's own love problems were intriguing. So on and so forth. Even the "mean" characters were shown to have a soft side; Duchess Swan was actually heart-wrenching when she explained why she didn't want to go along with things, much like Briar Rose's reasons but different. I wanted to see how their stories unfolded, to see if Cupid ever finds love for herself, and even the narrator family...they were so cute. The world of EAH was brilliantly done and perfectly fairy tale while bringing a whole new twist to it all.
While I was hearing this video, I accidentally set my arms on fire with turpentine while cleaning pain from my arms. For a few seconds as I trashed around turning myself off, I could only hear the sound of my blood rushing through my ears and your voice explaining why Mal's friends got mad at her. It was one of the most traumatic experiences in my life, and now you will forever be a part of that memory. Anyways, I'm finishing the video as I dunk my arms on cold water.
I would also like to point out the tension between Uma and Mal - she lived in Uma‘s head rent free for so long that she dreamed about making her squirm?? The fics write themselves
i'm a fully grown adult but i think queen of mean slaps so hard. my single other thought is that this series would've been significantly better if the pairings were mal/evie, uma/audrey and ben/carlos for various reasons
Ben and Carlos would be really good! Carlos would fall in love with a "dog like" guy, which could've added more layers in their stories. Also, Carlos would've liked art and fashion and Ben would've been more into literature and stuff, to mirror their parents.
@11:20 Yes this does happen in real life. My Mom in high school once did a guy’s homework based on the promise (assumption) that he would become her homecoming date. It’s really sad cause she was SUPER pretty and shy in high school, but most teen boys are jerks who don’t recognize beauty and grace when it’s staring them in the face 🙄
another thing that exists under the umbrella of descendants is a musical designed for high school/middle school theater departments. it’s a mixture of songs from the movies and original songs, and the plot line is a mashup of all 3 movies. the plot makes no sense at all if you’ve never seen the movies.
I have the same relationship with these movies that I do with the high school musical movies. I am madly in love with how cheesy and frankly bad they are. I will watch them as much as I want and nobody will tell me that I cannot like something because it’s bad. Excellent video.
nightfall is such a slay as well as whats my name and queen of mean it's going down is also a bop fr audrey literally was robbed and i wonder how she would have turned out if she was raised by her mom/has her mum in her corner and not her grandmum whispering poison in her ears.
Sometimes love is baking cookies. Sometimes it's saving the last cookie for someone, or at least splitting it in half to share. Sometimes there are no cookies and that in itself is a reason to be sad. I'm sure your parents do love you and I hope you have some cookies to enjoy
i really hate that the kids are fine with seeing their parents again. in the books, this idea was much more prevalent, but at least the main vk's parents were insinuated to be abusive or neglectful. usually, that would make you want to cut ties with them or never want to see them again. i know this is a kids show, but having the main characters be so willing to forgive isn't the right thing to be teaching kids in my opinion
yes the popular guy hitting on a girl to get her to do his homework is real - I know because boys tried it with me and got mad when I said I won't let them copy or do their work but I could help them with it instead.
important to note though that was in middle school. i wasnt asked to do anyone's homework in high school but i also wasn't able to go to school often then and was only there for tests mainly so they couldnt really ask
I think Ben's parents didn't refuse his idea bc he was about to be crowned king soon anyways, so even if they no then he probably still would've done it once he was crowned (him being king at 16 is questionable but Disney movie logic)
Tbh him being king at 16 is like, the only believable part of this movie, because it's happened many times before. Some kings were even younger than that! But those are usually made king after the old king, y'know, dies, so still kinda weird
I loved movies 1-2 idc idc they were iconic. I sobbed my eyes out when Cameron Boyce died (I was 13 and deep in my Descendant's era) and when they barely gave him screentime in the 3rd movie I was devastated. So I hate the 3rd movie, but the first two are iconic af

@@mrsnatural2368because he already liked her also they were destined
The prequel books addressed it
I don’t think that Evie’s plot line with Chad was about her being afraid to be smart because she thought it would intimidate boys.
I just wish that Disney spent money on beautiful wigs for this character.

i never understood why they chose to go with belle and the beast for the king and queen + our love interest's parents. given that cinderella's castle is a icon of the disney brand, i feel like cinderella and prince charming should have been the go-to. plus, having beauty and the beast at the forefront of the mind just constantly reminds me of the lackluster worldbuilding regarding auradon. like, beauty and the beast takes place in france. belle and adam are french. in descendants itself, ben sings be our guest and mentions france in the lyrics. does france exist in the descendants canon?? did they rename france to auradon?
you can hand wave it off with most of the other characters, because their settings are "vaugely european", but it felt strange to put emphasis on beauty and the beast (+ mulan, with lonnie bringing up her mother and "the war". does china exist in the descendants extended universe??) when it's one of the few disney princess movies with a setting based in the real world.
edit: having thought about this, a much better film to center for the parents of the main love interest would have been either cinderella (castle is an icon of the disney brand, fairy godmother is important to the story), sleeping beauty (because mal is the daughter of maleficent, so her getting together with the son of sleeping beauty would create drama), or snow white (the first feature length disney film). batb may be my favorite, but one of those three would have made so much more sense.
Ikr I was going to joke like “what war, Lonnie? when exactly was this war? who were the opposing sides? you’re being awfully vague”

And won't base his entire politics on the idea thay it is not the case?

I read somewhere that they had to scrap a bunch of the ending because of Cameron's death. (Though I could be wrong.)

Hades has a point about Audrey being forgiven but he was definitely the wrong person to tell them. It should have been Uma or someone who didn't try killing his nephew for power.
Also I hate how Mal just forgave Hades for being an absent father. Yeah people forgive their parents for crazy things all the time but she made it very clear that him being absent was deeply traumatic for her. @thatlycantomboy yes she is meant to be naturally purple, just like Evie is naturally blue. But to show that she's changed and to conform to the "princess way," she dyed it white and kept the tips purple to have a little part of who she was before Ben.

Don't forget his son becoming king (not president) at 16. Who voted for that?
O.M.G Yes!!! You know he only crowned Ben at 16 because he was getting pushed to step down and he wanted to keep the power in the family and within arms reach.
I really think given all that, that the words "got himself elected king" were picked very carefully (the writing of these series is a complete mess, but I feel like at least the real world parallel and the way it's explained in story were intentional and thought out). You just can’t leave newborns on a prison island though?
He fully created the problems he and the rest of that kingdom are currently experiencing and left it for a sixteen year old who still answers to his parents to fix for an entire country.

disney, of all companies, accidentaly creating a great allegory for how we treat native people in ex colonized countries (and minorities in our own countries) will never not be funny to me. because that's how it works right? speaking from my european prespective, we act all high and mighty, while actively harming the countries we say are third world. and those countries are that way now due to the way we fucked them up during the colonization times. we act like we're civilized and they're barbaric, when we're the ones using them for modern slavery, profiting off of child labour and exploiting all their resources. we do all this while portraying ourselves as the heroes who will eventually save those coutries, as long as they assimilate perfectly to our culture and leave anything related to their culture and ethnicity behind, of course.

I’ve never seen these movies or read the books, so I might be biased based on the fact that I’ve only seen TH-cam analyses of them, but the whole premise of this seems horrifying. Like, imagine your entire life plot is about redemption and growing from a hateful person into someone changed by love, but then you bring dozens of villains back from the dead so you can torture them for things they’ve already DIED from, PLUS imprisoning and traumatizing their innocent CHILDREN for things their parents did. man, ever after high really is the only thing to ever do anything interesting with the concept of 'what if fairytales but shared universe relationship drama'. mostly because it actually engages with the concept of what a fairytale *is*, and even then it only managed it for one season.

I think it doesn't make sense for Belle to be less inviting to villains, because the beast literally is a story of "don't judge a book by it's cover". This is literally the Disney version. She tolerated him until they fell in love. wtf

Especially because Anastasia made up with Cinderella in one of the movies and married her ugly baker guy.
my personal relationship headcanon is that on the isle, harry and jay were kinda secretly hooking up, secretly because uma and mal were rivals since they were 10, that was established. and so they were together-ish you know, as much as you can be in a place where love is frowned upon, so you know, like they were hanging out but not labeling it. anyway, when jay left for the isle, they had a fight and broke up. then in movie 3, because they're forced to team up, they have to talk, which leads to them making up and are ongood terms again. and jay meets gil, and they bond and decide to travel together, and during that year of traveling they fall in love, and it's adorable
Jay and Gil's ship name is quite literally Gay, so therefore they are meant to be
I ship Gay so much and I'm not even invested in these movies
Speaking of which, how did they get Dr. Facilier back of all people? How weak do they think contractual voodoo magic is?
That’s fair, but was the supplementary material supposed to be cannon. Cause it seems like they were all worked on by different teams.
These movies are my guilty pleasure, like i know they are terrible but i be boping to the top with some of the songs

The plots are bad but so many of the songs are actually super catchy and fun.
it's camp and nobody can't change my mind. It makes me really happy
Omg I never thought about that
I think they’re going to do something about it in the 5th movie.
@@hrts4adinaI mean Mal didn’t even steal him. Ben dumped her and didn’t even look back. But cursing the king is probably treason.

i was always curious as to how much info the author was given before writing the books because a lot of book details are in the movies like you said, but you would never know it if you hadn't read them. also in book one, there was a very weird scene where carlos was able to break the barrier long enough for the tv to have channels other than the official auradon news channel, and i think canonly in the book they're saying that disney channel is a thing, because carlos was describing a tv show about twins that look exactly like mal but they're blond, and i was like okay to dove was already cast as mal, but why add this detail like it's so random, what do you mean they have disney channel?
Lol I didn’t know that the decendants universe canonically crossed into other Disney universes
Dose that mean that Disney fairytale movies are just history documentaries?
one thing that i (as a brazilian) find funny is that Mal means “bad” or “evil” in portuguese, otherwise Bem (almost Ben) means “good”, so they’re literally the opposite of each other kinda of a yin-yang thing
i feel like some of the plotholes in descendants could’ve been solved if instead of everyone being disney character’s kids, some of them were grandkids. like it would at least solve the whole “why did all of these disney characters have kids at the same time” dilemma
Ok but- hadies isn’t technically a villain anyway, he just guards the underworld
sure, but in the storied Disney canon he’s an outright villain, however. Y’know, that’s the Hades hat soul-enslaves Meg, tries to merc Herc? …honestly pretty surprised that Disney recognized 1999’s Hercules at all in these movies
@@thatlycantomboy well yeah lol I just find it interesting

I mean the Evil Queen died. So doesn’t that technically annul the marriage?

One of the most annoying things this first movie did is that Carlos is terrified of dogs has been scared of them from young age. Y’all are too blinded by your hate for descendants you can’t even see the truth
Also y’all don’t understand how ideas happen descendants was being planned way before ever after high was out or even a thing
Lmao do some research before making assumptions and also Disney didn’t even come up with the idea of descendants it was Melissa de la cruz
They didn’t even want to do it at first
Descendants was created by Melissa de La cruz and she pitched the idea to Disney
They didn’t even want to do descendants at first they had to be persuaded by Melissa de la cruz
*Descendants star Dove Cameron and author Melissa de la Cruz sat down for an in-depth interview about the series and explained just how everything works together.
Are. Canon."
Descendants was actually the first time Disney was officially touching the classic tales of their movies.
(By touching they mean continuing the continuity remakes don’t count)
"That's why it took so long, because apparently, Disney corporate was like 'That's a terrible idea, we don't want to mess with the original stuff.' And so [Gary] told me that. He was like, 'This is the first time that this is ever going to happen.'"
Dove adds, "Disney Channel is it's own thing, it's own beast, so to be told you're involved in the classics is like, there's nothing more delicious than that. I think that's why we're all so invested in the series and the franchise itself because it's the first time!"
"It's the deepest honor, so for me, it was less nerve-wracking and the most delicious opportunity."*

I love how they made a franchise about Disney Character's children, and there is no sign of Melody, Ariel's canonical daughter.

Wajtttt you’re a genius for Uma X Audrey
@11:20 Yes this does happen in real life. My Mom in high school once did a guy’s homework based on the promise (assumption) that he would become her homecoming date. another thing that exists under the umbrella of descendants is a musical designed for high school/middle school theater departments. it’s a mixture of songs from the movies and original songs, and the plot line is a mashup of all 3 movies. the plot makes no sense at all if you’ve never seen the movies.

i really hate that the kids are fine with seeing their parents again. in the books, this idea was much more prevalent, but at least the main vk's parents were insinuated to be abusive or neglectful. usually, that would make you want to cut ties with them or never want to see them again. i know this is a kids show, but having the main characters be so willing to forgive isn't the right thing to be teaching kids in my opinion
yes the popular guy hitting on a girl to get her to do his homework is real - I know because boys tried it with me and got mad when I said I won't let them copy or do their work but I could help them with it instead.
important to note though that was in middle school. i wasnt asked to do anyone's homework in high school but i also wasn't able to go to school often then and was only there for tests mainly so they couldnt really ask
But those are usually made king after the old king, y'know, dies, so still kinda weird
the way these movies had me in a chokehold in middle school lol. looking back it's so bad 😭😭
