Karma: Bald guy causes accident in Cambridge after road rage

- On 30 August 2016 I was verbally assaulted by a bald aggressive driver (0:15) after I legally overtook him on my motorcycle (0:04) well bellow the speed limit.
He then blocked me from overtaking (0:30) while he was driving intentionally slow and later steered dangerously and in a threatening manner towards me (1:40).
Karma caught up with him and seconds later he caused an accident while trying to chase me.
Unfortunately he caused damage to another member of the public (around 2:05 the accident is not in camera view, it happened behind me, but you can see the damage to the Mercedes dragging its front bumper at 2:16). He fled the scene.
Police were informed and this entire footage was sent to them. Following further police enquiries, court proceeding were started against the driver. He was found guilty in court (CTC Cambridgeshire Police Ref 122392)

Before you ask, the accident is not in direct camera view, it happened at around 2:05 right *behind* me.
After I go around the roundabout, at about 2:15 you can see the damage caused to the Mercedes dragging its front bumper.
The Megane driver fled the scene. Police were informed and this footage was given as evidence.

Did you also inform them that you were riding like a complete dickhead, speeding in built-up areas, overtaking cars on chevrons and almost caused numerous collisons yourself?

Absolutely shocking display from both of you. You definitely antagonised the situation and made it worse. Chasing him down, trying to overtake on the nearside in a cycle lane and then you overtook on zig zag's through a pedestrian crossing, then for some reason you went round the roundabout and blasting back through the crossing again, once again overtaking. Why on earth you would want to upload this i dont know.
However, it looks like the driver was trying to provoke him to overtake. He slowed right down, so overtaking was the right thing to do. Someone obviously attempting cause problems.
Definitely... terrible display from both but even worse was the motorcyclist antagonising the car.

As someone who used to use motorbike a lot I would highly recommend to the guy on the bike to easy off, cool down. Regardless of who is wrong, right etc, you my friend are by far more vulnerable take care. That motorist has no good intentions. You do not want to be on the receiving end of his attitude.

Most motorists would just accept it, and let the motorcyclist just go in front, even though his overtaking at that point (as a motorcyclist myself) was in poor judgement. Of the point, I know this stretch of road very well. Near where my son lives in Cambriidge (Mill Road).

Well the motorcylist has commited at least 6 offences in that short clip , each offence would merit 3 penalty points each, so that would be him disqualified from the roads for a t least 2 years. The driver of the car did commit offences , and would incure penalty points also. But the motorcylist should understand that the car drivers bad driving , in no way mitigates his breaking of the law, The pair of them are muppets who should , for the safety of others be banned.

Correct, he would need to break the 30 limit to do that. I think people forget when overtaking, in theory, although highly unlikely, you can be done for speeding if you have to break the limit to pass them. What gets me is on a 50 limit road for example, Im doing 50 and someone flies past me to then sit behind the car in front of me who is also doing 50. Swapping places in the traffic doesn't knock any time of your journey but those sort of idiots dont seem to understand that.

The car has kids in the back and was driving normal to begin with, the bike is in such a rush he's overtaking in a 30 zone with pedestrians around and a red light ahead. He then starts driving like an ass at every pedestrian crossing after he finally passes the car

Totally agree and I did approach the situation in a calm and non-confrontational manner up until about the 0:30 mark where the driver intentionally drives slowly and prevents me from overtaking. Even then, all I want is to just get past and let him be.

I would never overtake on the approach to a red light. People get so stressed and brittle when behind the wheel and can take offence at the manoeuvre and the red mist descends and things can esculate badly. Just drive defensively at all times.
Try going to Hawes or Kirkby Lonsdale in the summer. Bikers rarely seem to do the speed limit on those roads, yet the limit still applies to them the same as for cars. They will argue that bikes can overtake quickly, but if it means breaking the limit to do so then they are bad riders. If I had a Ferrari and did the same I would get the effing and jeffing towards me but no, the bikers seem to be immune.
Biker filming this is overtaking needlessly, considering there are traffic lights, roundabouts and other cars ahead. Even if another road user does something unsafe or insulting, you won't fix it by reacting, you'll just make matters worse. Just take it easy and be patient. No driver or rider is perfect, so just relax and hone your own safe riding skills. You're always going to be tested by others, which is your opportunity to show restaint, calm and just go about your business - don't get involved. One day, you might mix it with the wrong person - there are some proper nutters out there.
If someome is doing something dangerous or threatening or careless to you or other road users, then record it by all means, but it's not going to help if you get involved by arguing with them, even less by judging them or trying to correct them.
Biker needs to brush up on his riding technique.
I recommend a course in defensive riding skills and sooner rather than later.
BTW it’s not compulsory to overtake everything in front of you.
I did get my DVSA enhanced rider certificate. Can't remember if it was before or after the incident...

When I rode about 15 years ago - I kept steel ball bearings on the bike and in my vest pocket plus a firearm in the saddlebag. Dropping ball bearings above 30mph will help them bounce and take out a windshield and motivate a cage driver to back off.

Biker was riding like an idiot and both ended up speeding, biker was trying to pass near crossings and in Diagonal stripes or chevrons which are painted on the road to help separate traffic lanes or vehicles turning right. When bordered by a solid white line, you shouldn't enter the area except in an emergency. If the line is broken, you shouldn't enter the area unless it's necessary and you can see that it's safe.
Don't do this on a bike. Too vulnerable. Stop. De escalate.

You then refused to de-escalate the situation, gave chase, broke numerous traffic laws and drove dangerously. All because your ego was a little hurt.

He left the scene, which is why I notified the police.
I gave a full statement to the police and supplied the footage.
A few months later I received a letter confirming they have prosecuted the driver, but no further details just ref no.

A060 VHM is not someone who should be allowed to drive. He clearly has anxieties about something - his masculinity, perhaps, when someone overtaking is enough to send him into a foul-mouthed rage. He is like a big toddler. He should be sent to anger management training, and also to retake his driving test. He is a fool.

The overtake may not have been illegal but was unnecessary when you came to a stop at a red light anyway literally right after. If the shoe was on the other foot, you'd be unhappy about how pointless it was too.

You need to read highway code re overtaking on zigzags. Basically it's three points if you overtake another vehicle.
No, you can overtake on zig zags, although not recommended

I got headache from watching these two fools racing. And on top of that .. on the wrong side of the road! I'm not going to watch UK dashcams from now on 😁
So the benefit scrounger tells you off for overtaking , then he starts speeding in his car and weaving all over the road to try not less you pass ! , its little man syndrome that cant accept people overtaking , just sad car drivers who are like kids who just cant let anyone pass and leave them behind .
Well yes M p, but sad drivers like this often carry knives and the like as they can't defend themselves any other way. Best just back off from them for everyone's sake and try to defuse the situation. Either that or finish up bleeding out on a road or kerbside somewhere.
it's extremely funny when I'm doing deliveries on my Honda Vision and overtake someone in a car rigidly doing 20 and then they wanna floor the gas and speed all of a sudden. Never works cos i wouldn't be overtaking them anyway if I didn't have a good length of road to safely do it. Always leaves their silly little ego burnt.The smaller the scoot the more their ego burns. My Vespa ET4 bruises a lot of ego's lol. Smallest 125 scoot accelerates faster than most 4x4's
