There was a big push to get Andy Serkis nominated for an Oscar for the work he put into this character, but it didn't happen. I think they couldn't do to some kind of technicality, being that his part was CGI and some how they considered it more of a voice over than acting. This movie is amazing and the trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever made.
I wish that there would have been a way for Koba to see that it isn't every human that is bad, he is such a tragic character. Koba wasn't a chimpanzee, he was a bonobo. Bonobos are actually MUCH more peaceful and docile than chimpanzees in nature and domesticated. Once you know that, it is so tragic to mentally figure out the kind of torture that he was put through in the labs with humans.

I think a detail (that someone told me after watching it for the first time) that I like that is not talked enough. Koba ends up dying in a similar way to Jacob from the previous movie. Hanging from a high location, look up at Ceasar, asking for help, Ceasar rejects them and screaming as they fall down.
I also noticed last time I watched this movie. Koba hits a part of the construction and it wraps around him. He literally dies in a cage.
