    This is great to hear, Dexcom changed my diabetes management for the better once I switched from the libre. The libre is a cost effective useful tool for people just needing to manage diabetes. However as someone who suffered from reactive hypoglycaemia due to diabetes, the Libre was horrible and unreliable at low numbers. Dexcom is always within 5 points of my blood reader after calibration. Great to hear the size is much smaller and on par with the libre , I’m hoping my insurance will cover it similar to the g6.

    I couldn’t put the Freestyle into my arm. It was too thick and it hurt too much. I don’t know if the new Freestyle is different.
    I’m a type 2 Diabetic and in the US most insurance companies won’t pay for CGMs for people with Type 2. I think it’s backwards because you’re preventing damage from not well-controlled glucose levels. I’m hoping Dexcom G7 will be inexpensive enough that they Wilber willing to cover it for Type 2 diabetics.

    Hopefully they will completely publish their API's (computer interfaces) so that it will be easy for diabetic developers, engineers and scientists can build their own open source solutions. Their are much more diabetics with programming and scientific knowledge than all of dexcom, medtronic, development teams together etc together. Moreover, unlike most engineers that work for these companies, we are living every day with these devices, so open source software really would be the fastest way forward to improved living with diabetes. the same off course not only applies to CGM's but to the whole diabetes management technology, including the algorithms on pumps.

    Whoa there... We peasanty Brits are still stuck at Libre 1. Edit: Libre 2 has just been released here but not free on prescription yet... it’s going through pharmacy formulary at the NHS trust I work at (GSTT) right now. We can only hope this kind of technology might be available to our Patients once it’s totally obsolete everywhere else and all other countries have already moved on.... I work for the nhs and before 2020 I loved Libre 1 (but personally I have moved on to D G6) That was then, this is now.

    Bundling transmitter and sensor together will likely make it impossible to extend the lifespan of the sensor. The main reason is likely commercial and regulatory. Previously, the sensor really had no ability to know how long he was in the body. Now that transmitter and sensor are bonded together, their life span can be enforced. Not re-using the electronics, battery and making this single use is a missed opportunity for reducing the plastic/electronic waste we are producing every day, mostly for commercial reasons.
    Since many years, it is knows that one can measure glucose levels optically, the problem is: this does not need any consumables: such devices could work possibly for 10 years, so there is absolutely no commercial interest to put such devices on the market as it would kill a multi-billion dollar industry until maybe Apple integrates this in their phones.

  • @BrianKushner
    @BrianKushner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I thought the Libre system you had to pass the receiver over the sensor to get a reading? That's not the same as dexcom?

    • @TypeOneTalks
      @TypeOneTalks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dexcom has the transmitter as part of the commercial Dexcom system. So unlike Libre there is no need for a third party add on with the Dexcom G6. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    Can you calibrate the G7? Every search result i find says "It doesn't require calibration". That's fine but that's not what I'm asking. I am asking if you CAN calibrate it, and nobody will answer this super simple question. Can you tell me?
    Also, my insurance took away my G6 and gave me the Libre 3, which not having a reader absolutely sucks. I hate the Android app it's 90% worthless without having the alarms that I got spoiled with on the reader. If you can help me address some of these questions that'd be great. I need some ammunition for when I talk to the case worker that my insurance company is assigning me to help back up my case for why I need the G7. I can't make any sense out of how a company as big as Abbot cannot make a good app. They need to make it so you can see your info from your locked screen. I used to look at my G6 reader 200 to 300 times a day, and the Libre 3 app is such a clunky pain in the butt that I probably look at it 30 times a day tops. And the fact that you can't adjust the time frame that your viewing the graph in is absurd. They must have saved 2 cents per unit by cutting corners on this feature. The graph is absolutely useless with how it crams 12+ hours into a tiny screen. It gives me the sideways "stable" arrow but the graph makes it look like I'm dropping 5 points per minute. My main gripe here is if you can give me some clear points to bring up when I talk to the case manager. I know why I like the Dexcom more but I want to be able to pitch my case in a way that my insurance will view as valid evidence for why I need the Dexcom.
    I REALLY hope you can calibrate the G7. I'm sure it makes the algorithm a little more complex, but it still needs to be a feature!

      I am not sure if I understand. I thought G6 does not need calibration... Wishing you a great day!

      @@TypeOneTalks well...
      It technically doesn’t..
      But it happens that it’s out of the 20% rule (difference between finger prick and Dexcom reading) and then you should calibrate to improve accuracy.
      Sometimes the system itself may ask for a calibration.
      It isn’t however *usually* needed.
