Courland (basically Latvia that was ruled by the small German elite and was subject to the P-L commonwealth) HAD COLONY ON TOBAGO from 1654 to 1659 and intermittently from 1660 to 1689.
"the Arawak population dwindled from contact with the Spanish" is such a weird way to say "the Spanish killed, infected with disease and worked the Arawaks to death". In real History and Anthropology writing these framing differences are very important, and used in propagandistic tellings, usually for apologia by the colonial interests themselves.
You hit the mark. I found it strange that he talked about it like that. In primary and secondary school, they told us exactly what happened to the Tainos and Kalinagos. I hope he only did that because of youtube monetization, but I highly doubt that. It could probably be for the intentions that you've laid out here...
Liked and subbed at the point you called it "Toe BAY go" instead of "Toe BAG go". It shows you were respectful enough to actually research the pronunciation of the country's name. I applaud your thoroughness.
for the fist time someone is interesting of Trinidad . Most of the people know other contrys not this one ... who agrees? i live in Trinidad and this is interesting.
Oh the 1970's protests, labeled by the local media as the (Black Power Movement) was a major part of T&T's history......BUT GREAT JOB in a nutshell. 👏 If you added more, this video would be much longer, thereby defeating its purpose LOL!!
Well this was very nice. Much appreciated and keep up the good work. I hope one day that something is done about the high level of crime in Trinidad 🇹🇹
Tobagonian Here, we often say Trinbago (Which is a combination of Trinidad & Tobago) and the reason for the Red House in Trinidad being red, from doing a bit of googling was to be in preparation to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Yes ik this vid is a month old
They are the largest demographic in Trinidad, followed closely by those of African descent....Douglas (Mix of Indian & African) Chinese, French, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Syrian/Lebanese are some of the other groups here in smaller numbers.
The country has three main groups that make up the majority of the population: Indians; Africans; and Mixed people (typically someone of Afro descent mixed with something else, but other mixes exist in abundance).
I love Trinidad especially the doubles I'm in my country we have no snow whatsoever we only have two seasons the dry season and the rainy season and we love the soca music we jump we danced and we move that dang we have more than three languages in our country and I am an independent child the red house is kind of like the White House did I say this already but I love my country❤ Here is the country flag 🇹🇹
It was, except the laborers would have to work in indentureship for another period of 5 years to get it Unfortunately for some who wanted to go back home, when they met their end of the deal, their ship sunk in the bocas Given what school taught us about how awful indentureship was, I'd say A LOT of people did not want to be put through that The way they even got workers to come could be likened to what the Emirates are doing to India now, promising good pay for a job and then trapping the people in the country
slavery wasnt fully abolshed in 1833 it was actually 1838 when the slaves were actually free and in 1845 the plantations finally had their replacements
What happened in 1797 is hardly what I'd call "conquering". If anything it demonstrated the ineptitude of the Spanish ability to hold on to the island. It was over in like a week and hardly any fighting happened at all. Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if Abercrombie left with more powder than he came with.
As someone who lives in Trinidad I found this interesting
Me too

Liked and subbed at the point you called it "Toe BAY go" instead of "Toe BAG go". It shows you were respectful enough to actually research the pronunciation of the country's name. I applaud your thoroughness.

Oh the 1970's protests, labeled by the local media as the (Black Power Movement) was a major part of T&T's history......BUT GREAT JOB in a nutshell. 👏 If you added more, this video would be much longer, thereby defeating its purpose LOL!!

Never knew a return trip to India was offered. You might be wrong on that one.
It was, except the laborers would have to work in indentureship for another period of 5 years to get it
Unfortunately for some who wanted to go back home, when they met their end of the deal, their ship sunk in the bocas
Given what school taught us about how awful indentureship was, I'd say A LOT of people did not want to be put through that
The way they even got workers to come could be likened to what the Emirates are doing to India now, promising good pay for a job and then trapping the people in the country
