    I have ENGLISH CAPTIONS turned on and as it's transcribing what you say in real time, TH-cam think that the moments when you're not talking and just revving up the motors in the background, sounds like "applause".
    That's what I hear too when we're about to fly FPV. bliss.

    You are the greatest. Following this video I just got my system set up with redundancy of 2 receivers and telemetry to play value and play track for low RxBt and RSSI after being overwhelmed for almost a year. It works great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have accidentally soldered off a capacitor or something off of my flight computer which for better or for worse, made it so that the OSD doesn't work anymore on my kwad. I'm so happy that I found this video.

    Hopefully this will save someone some time. JB calls it Vfas in the video I didn’t see that option. So I selected RxBt except it has a regular , + , and - . The + was the highest and the - was the lowest voltage it hit in the flight. So the regular one is the one you want. Everything else was the same, Great video JB!

    Josh you did the 0 volt thing the hard way. There is no need to add L07, all you had to do was on your L06 was add your AND condition ARM SW. Then it only gives volt info when armed. Silent otherwise.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +GenCode FPV that's not bad. Multiple ways to solve the problem. Ain't OpenTX grand.

    • @PaulHodgetts
      @PaulHodgetts 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When he chained it with the logical switch tied to RSSI, I think it could be: L07 = RSSI > 0 for 5 secs AND L04 (his logical arm switch), and then L06 = VFAS < 14.0 for 0.2 sec + 10 sec repeat delay AND L07. Would that work? If so, still does it with one less logical switch. I guess if we wanted to use RSSI > 0 for something else, it might make sense to give it its own logical switch. OpenTX is very cool!

    Since I'll be flying 6S but may occasionally run 4S, I modified your logical switches to work for both, but have to reboot the Tx if I change packs since it uses highest voltage ... not sure if there's a way to get around this but FWIW here's what I did...
    L04 a>x RxBt+ 22.8V --- --- ---
    L05 a>x 1RSS 0dB L04 --- 0.2

    Thanks for another useful video tutorial!
    I've been a hardcore logical switch creator/user on my Taranis since the first week of owning mine - going on 3+ years now and I've always required telemetry on my rigs for that reason. Many of my flying buddies choose not to mess with it because they feel it's too complex to learn - but now I can source this video to such folks so they'll no longer have an excuse IMO... ;-) not that there hasn't been other videos on the subject, but this one done the JB way, makes it soooo much simpler to understand for those that easily get overwhelmed by such. Thanks again! - videos like this will be forever useful to our ever-growing community of Taranis newbs.

  • @quadplay2591
    @quadplay2591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just use delay set to 5s, this means it ignores punch-out voltage drops and it solves the "zero volts" condition without the need the extra RSSI and VFAS logical switches. So when the voltage goes below my threshold for more that 5 seconds then it alarms. In Special Functions I set the sound and haptic warnings to repeat every 3 seconds, so once the logical switch becomes true I get repeat warnings...

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It feels to me like 5 seconds is too long unless you set the threshold to like 15.0. But whatever works for you!

    • @quadplay2591
      @quadplay2591 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed, the threshold needs to be adjusted to suit the flying style and lipo capacity etc, I use 14.5v and my lipos generally land at about 15v still in the tank. Cheers, Ray

    This and some of your other taranis videos got me thinking that it would be nice if there was a library of installable switches, etc. that could easily be added to our tarani. Being new to the hobby, I'm not sure if it is possible to download and install such things.
    Another thought, being as how I just watched your model match video, it would be nice to have telemetry be normalized to 1S regardless of what size battery being used. That way 4.2 volt is always fully charged, etc. All the alarms and such could be set based on that. Your argument for model match made a lot of sense, and if I spend a bunch of time really dialing in my model it would be nice to use it for as many quads as possible, even the 2" ones using 2S or 3S batteries.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Betaflight reports a "cell voltage" sensor which might could be used to do the 1S thing you're asking for. However it's just an average of all the cells, based on Betaflight's guess as to what voltage battery you're using.

    I fly VLOS pretty often, and I don't see this changing when I upgrade my quad and have a working VTx and OSD.
    When you're VLOS, you don't have an OSD, and when you're rippin' while VLOS you can't look down at your screen.
    Audible alerts are VERY useful for this use case as well!
    Also, thanks, now I've mapped my switches to announce flight modes.
    Personally, what I'd probably map is that it announces when you dip below, and if you *stay* below it'll sound a chime/siren/alarm noise for the duration that the switch is active.
    I haven't poked through my T16's sound library, but probably something that's not TOO obtrusive as to make me want to throw the thing, but gets my attention that something's wrong.
    Then reads again after, say, ten seconds.

    Josh, wouldn't you want to do a logical switch of VFas = Xvoltage (for a duration of Xtime)? During flight vltage spikes and crap can dip the voltage below your example of 14v and read out an audible alert. During the course of a freestyle flight the alarm will be going nuts. I've done this, tried it and it does go nuts. Rotorriot did a video on Taranis setup and covered this a while back.

    Hello sir, is there a way for the taranis to read out Low throttle warning, for example when m training new flyers, and they reduce the throttle mid flight to let say 20% or 15% the radio should warn either by saying low throttle, or stall, or whatever type of warning it has... thank you for your time...

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes definitely you can do this.
      The way I would suggest doing this is as follows.
      1. Logical switch for if "armed" or if "throttle cut" is disabled (to prevent false warnings when on the ground).
      2. Sticky logical switch that becomes true when "armed" and the 1st time throttle goes above 15%. Sticky switch trips back to false when "disarmed".
      3. Logical switch that is AND of the above combined with throttle position < 20%.
      If you would like more specific help, please email me joshuabardwell@gmail.com

      +Dennis Riessbeck it's the same method just use Fuel sensor. Also you don't need the delay 0.2 seconds because Fuel only goes up.

      I have tried more than once, I wouldn't ask if I did not try it. I use voltage warning since day one, I am not an opentx noob, but there is more in detail about the fuel sensor which I was not able to solve so far

    Joshua Bardwell your going to learn something today. You made this simple thing very complicated with all the extra logical switches for o.o volts warning issue… just add a “AND” value to the original logical volt read out line (L06) by only checking when armed by adding the value of your arm switch as the “AND” switch ie, SA-. Boom no zero read outs unless you have your drone armed with no battery!

    I prefer using A4 over VFAS for voltage reference, more interesting if you fly with 2S, 3S, 4S, etc on the same build or different builds...
    Have a great weekend and keep on flying!

    • @blackmennewstyle

      matt neale Hi Matt :)
      Yes you can, it gives you the average cells voltage of your LIPO which is more convinient than VFAS if you use different voltage ones (4S, 5S, etc...).
      Use the low voltage and critical values that you think important for you. Or simply translate the voltage use by Joshua in his video by divided the values by 4 since he is using 4S and you will have your values for A4. It will work for any kind of LIPOs since they all have same cell voltages reference :)

    Hey Josh....can I ask for your recommendation on how to configure this when flying a mixture of 2s/3s on a mini quad. Got it setup perfectly for 3s but do I just duplicate the logical switches further down for a second battery type or is it better going with voltage per cell when flying different battery types?

    • @FerralVideo
      @FerralVideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd go for voltage per cell personally. It sounds simpler to me, and gives you a consistent number that you don't have to convert when flying different packs.
      You just know that when you hear "Three point four five volts", no matter what you're flying, you need to be on the ground.

      +David Farris II FrSky runs opentx which can do anything. FrSky is way more cost effective once you add in the cost of receivers especially. FrSky supports advanced features like Lua scripts.

      Ok it's April 2020 and I have the same problem described by geoff here in that when I "play a value" I don't get the decimal place i.e. it says 3v instead of the real value of 3.5v. Has anyone got an answer for this? I've been searching far and wide for an solution which has led me to many dead ends like this 2 year old video. With the passage of time I'm hoping that either geoff or Joshua has the solution. If you do it would be much appreciated if you could post it here. Thanks!!

      You really ought to upgrade to 2.2.1. Your firmware version 2.1.6 is pretty dated. I'm not sure how to get it working right.

      @yonallb 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The evolution is fairly straight forward compared to opentx. There are some videos out there so just browse around. It will do audible beeps for rssi and vbat, they work pretty well. It can’t interface with your fc for voltages though so no osd support.

      You have to have telemetry working, such as SmartPort for FrSky, or Crossfire, before telemetry will show up there. If you are using a receiver that does not support telemetry, that option won't appear.

      When I turn the helli off Tx tells me , Telemetry lost. So must be reading something. Is it possible I've missed something in Tx setup. I'm not really using any other Telemetry features but though this would be of great value to me maintaining power. Hope you can help. Just found some of you tutorials. & subscribed.

    and another question ... is there a chance to read out the average cell voltage? ... this would help when switching from 4 to 5 cell aso ... I have seen some discussions about this for cleanflight ... FLVSS ... therefore it may work in BF too

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Betaflight can do this. I can't remember which sensor it is though. I think it might be A4. Check your sensors list and see which one looks like it is average cell voltage.
