    There's a TH-cam mechanic that says he charges $180/hour for any work done on/with a car. Just reading a check-engine code is $180. Even if the light is on because of a low battery, it's $180 just for him to tell you that. Comparing the cost of the tool to mechanics like that is no contest; tool wins. Makes me really appreciate all the information Scotty shares. Thanks Scotty.

      Auto Zone or any box auto parts store can check your auto CHECK ENGINE LIGHT for free. Take that $180 & buy a
      cheap scan tool, such as this one. You can even split the cost with relatives, saving them time & money, too.

    Scotty - you are credit to "honesty" and sadly you don't see that much in people anymore. I have a State-Registered Animal Care & Rescue (non-profit) using a 2000 Ford van with 275,000 miles, that I have to keep running and on the road safely. I can't tell you how many times I've been ripped off by mechanics in the past working on it, or shall I say, suspected I was ripped off by a mechanic for hundreds of dollars in what seems like such a simple repair. With the CRP123 scanner you recommended I can at least feel confident that I am paying for what the problem really was. Thanks for the "honesty" about how to identify and possibly fix an ABS problem. Keep up the great videos - I am recommending your stuff.

    Scotty, as someone who's just now starting to try to learn more about working on cars after 35+ years of complete ignorance, I've seriously learned a lot from your channel. Thanks for everything. I've been thinking about investing some hard-earned money in a good scan-tool so winning one you recommend would make my year!

    My wife has a 2008 prius that "chirps" when at a stoplight in Drive. I have read that bleeding the ABS/brake system may fix it but it is advised to use a Techstream to do it right. Would this ABS Scan tool work for this job?

    • @seanlacroix
      @seanlacroix 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get techstream on Ebay for like 30 bucks and it includes the connector. I use it all the time on my matrix. It reads every computer system in the car and even gives live data. Just hook the connector up to your laptop and run the software.

    • @jeffzabriskie5209
      @jeffzabriskie5209 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a bidirectional scan tool that bleeds the abs modulator--Scotty didn't mention whether this tool can perform an abs bleed, so you'd have to look it up. I bought an Autel MaxiCheck Pro to diagnose & repair the abs system on my Honda--it's about twice what this scanner costs, but like Scotty said in the video, it's MUCH cheaper than $5000 for a dealer-level tool.
