OMG....I came across your videos about a week ago and have discovered I am my worst enemy for my dry skin on my face and body. I had been using serums and moisturizers and frustrated with my dry irritated skin all year long. After watching your videos on moisturizers I discovered I have moisturizing completely WRONG! By changing applying the moisturizer on immediately after cleansing my face while still wet, my face is no longer dry and irritated. WOW, I am amazed at the difference in my face within a few days. I have also said good bye to “anti-aging” serums and hello CeraVe. Thank you for sharing your information in skin care.

In Germany Cetaphil has just been introduced as a brand...large displays everywhere ☺
I got the oil control moisturizer (spf30, fragrance free) and so far I'm really happy with it. Spf in moisturizer isn't really a big thing here...if at all, they only put it in products for dry/mature skin. There isn't a single drugstore moisturizer for oily/acne-prone skin with spf if you can believe it. And regular sunscreen feels very unpleasant on my skin.
This one is very light and doesn't leave a sticky/oily/unpleasant feeling. I'm sure I'll try more of their products in the future.
Cerave, unfortunately, isn't really available here. Some products are available on Amazon, but they cost like twice as much as in the U.S.
I looked for ceramides in locally available products, but so far haven't found anything promising....will keep looking though!
And as always: thanks for the great advice!

Mrs Senta Good to know. So far I've only looked at drugstore products...La Roche and Eucerin is usually pharmacy only here...and pretty pricy. And of course you get haunted by well meaning staff immediately...and I like to take my time and browse... well...for the face it might just be worth it...not getting younger after all 😎. It's a real double whammy...getting wrinkles and still having to deal with horribly oily skin. I need to moisturize or I'll look tired, but my skin still keeps producing obscene amounts of oil. I need to blot every hour or so. I guess I'll have to get one of those pharmacy grade Retin A products...maybe that helps.

Dr Dray Ultrasun is available in Europe and I'm using their face antipigmentation SPF50+ PA++++, which also includes infrared A protection, waiting to be judged by you though. Thanks to your educational videos which made me realized for the first time in my life how stupid I was not to taking sun protection seriously (as a 9-y cancer researcher and also worked on melanoma treatment not on humans though). Love to hear about your view on the Swiss brand Ultrasun.
Reviews on European brands are highly appreciated. Head to toe, the more the merrier. Now I'm going to hunt Eucerin moisturisers down, which is also available in the Netherlands. The more I watch your videos the more I regret that I didn't buy anything useful during my postdoc at Duke. Lucky to have found you now, never to late to learn. Thanks for making time generously to educate us.

I love Cerave Moisturizing Cream for the body, and my skin has gotten so much better since I put it in my tub and started putting it on as soon as I finish my shower. That advice helped a ton, so thank you. I can't use it on my face since it breaks me out, but I live in the desert and its done a great job on my body.
My skin is acne prone, and while medication to regulate my hormones got rid of the cystic acne I had when I was younger, I had to do a bit of work myself to get rid of the rest of the acne. I used cosdna as a guide. So I would try a product that broke me out and use cosdna to cross-reference it with other products that caused breakouts. Looking at the potential to cause acne, I was able to come up with a skincare regime that didn't break me out by pinpointing products that caused negative skin reactions. There are some very popular ingredients I need to stay away from -- no coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, polyglyceryl-3-diisostearate, cetearyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, ethylhexyl palmitate, carrageenan, vitamin a (except for tocopheryl acetate), etc. To minimize irritation, I don't use any products with perfume, denatured alcohol, and essential oils. However, that only works if I'm washing my face every morning and evening and keeping the rest of my skincare the same so I know what is causing the problem. I think for people who can't afford to see a dermatologist, sites like cosdna can help work as a guide.

it is unfortunate that access to medical care is a huge barrier...however, i disagree that internet sites that provide inaccurate information are a good resource for acne sufferers, as this is a disease that cannot be managed or controlled using a cook book approach

I did the wet skin moisturizer technique for the first time last night and it's such a game changer. The cream spread so much easier! I use Cetaphil and it's so thick that when I put it on dry skin I have to use a lot because I can't really spread it. So then I end up feeling so icky, especially that I live in a really hot and humid place. It also feels like the thick slab of cream is just sitting on top of my skin and it would be icky wearing clothes or sitting on surfaces or touching anything. I also went through the tub pretty quick since I couldn't spread it and I just keep putting too much on. It was so bad that I would often avoid moisturizer even with really dry eczema skin. I'm so glad to do it the Dr. Dray way now!

I started with that CeraVe cream on my face a week ago as I'm using adapalene every night now and felt like I needed some thick moisturizer to help me with the irritation, and it DID. But since then I've been breaking out. How long did it take for you to get over that phase?

I bought a tub of Aveeno Baby Eczema with my last 40% off coupon from CVS. It is truly good stuff. I also found Curel at Big Lots for about $3.95 a tube. I use the Curel Ultra Healing lotion on my hands at work, and it seems to help me out a lot. This time of year, my hands usually get really dry and the skin on my knuckles and near my fingernails will start to crack open and bleed, but the Curel lotion seems to be holding that at bay. It also contains ceramides.

I picked up some Cereve and I love it! I use it as a moisturizer AND shave cream. Still love Nubian Heritage lotions as they are thick, even though they come in a bottle, because they have a LOT of natural ingredients and their basic lotion is raw shea butter. My favorite scent is Patchouli & Buriti. The ingredients don’t bother my sensitive skin. ❤️ I DO not condone animal testing. Did you mention Cereve WAS cruelty free? I looked at the jar, but didn’t see anything. There’s something about plunging your fingers into a thick cream though. My hands appreciate it and my body loves it. Thank you for your channel! Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Hello! I’m curious to know what you think of the Honest Company’s line of moisturizers, specifically the “Purely Simple” (fragrance free) one. Here’s a list of the ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Olivate, Glycerin, Sorbitan Olivate, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract*, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil*, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol
Would this be good for face and body? I have mild seborrheic dermatitis around my nose.

I am in Europe. I live in Ireland but travel a lot, Cerave is found pretty widespread but not the full line of products unfortunately but a lot of them. Eucerin seems to have a bigger variety on the continent than here in Ireland and assumably the UK, Aveeno is pretty widespread regardless of location in Europe. I definitely can find most of the products you discuss if they are a big brand. I love your content! :-D

  • @blukatzen

Thanks for this! I was looking for some products now that it's getting cooler and dryer. I live in Chicago, and it gets windy besides the cold, and we need a lot of moisture. Aloe vera is very good on it's own, but not enough for the winter. Maybe a part of layering. I used one by Korean Company "The Face Shop" and it has a very gentle fragrance that I can handle. I am an asthmatic and have to watch fragrances, especially around the face. I am liking all the information on Curel, Eucerin, etc. These companies are sure putting more good things, like the Ceramides, into their balms. I think the term you might want to incorporate into the jargon here is looking at "Balms". Lotions, as you have said, are too runny for most outside of Summertime. (where you have to ease it up a bit.) Oils are oils, and ointments are oily concoctions that seem to be medicinal in our minds. Balms are soothing, heavier than lotions that slather onto our skin and leave (as you had mentioned in many vlogs) that protective hydro-barrier that keeps water in. I discovered this when I was getting ready once and didn't have enough time to dry off before putting on my skin lotion and voila! That taught ME! Not enough doctors tell their patients that. (well, dermatologists might, but GP's/Internalists should as well...and that's who we see first.) I had been using for a long time products by Palmers company, that use as their base, Coco butter, because a lot of it has a faint chocolate essence from the cocoa beans. (they are fair traded and responsibly sourced, I was quite impressed by their history.) They started out as an ethnic skincare/haircare company, and have some good products. I like using a lot of the tropical butters on my skin, if you would make a vlog about that sometime, it would be a good thing for those of us out there that like them. (the brazilian butters, african butters, asian butters). There is a woman here on youtube that sells these and has a small import company that brings them into the States. Her name is "Rainforest Chica" and please go look at her channel. As a horticulturist, I find these fascinating, but I AGREE with you wholeheartedly, yes, plants can be quite irritating to the skin. (I've seen it more than you think, I've had to take a kid who was working for me to the hospital, when she was deadheading marigolds, who knew she had a sensitivity to them and her hands swelled up.) She was ok but had to quit for safety purposes.

I’m one of those odd balls that dimethicone makes my pores clog. Anytime I try using products that contain it I get these weird bumps under my skin that don’t turn into pimples and when I pop them (which I shouldn’t) a lot of stuff comes out 😖

    • @DrDrayzday

I used to try and go sulfate-free and also CO-wash (conditioner wash), and my hair and scalp hated it *so much*. I have seborrheic dermatitis and it needs a good clean so I use sulfates (and also silicones) without any issues now. I also see nothing wrong with sulfates. To combat the dryness of the shampoo, I always condition twice (ears down). I have tailbone length hair, so yes my lengths get drier faster.

I use Vaseline on the face at night to trap in the water and jojoba oil I put on and it really really helped my acne.

Thanks for the great video Dr. Dray! As a heavy user of the Cerave Moisturizing Cream, I highly recommend the tub with a pump on amazon. We go through so many tubs every winter in our house and that pump makes it easy to get the cream out mess-free.

I tried to use CereVe Moisturizing lotion on my face because it feels lighter and more budget friendly but I did feel stinging when I put it on. I think I have allergy to parabens because it often strings when I tried to use some body lotion often time with parabens on my face. Have no problem with Cereve skin renewing night cream.

Isn't it funny that companies are marketing as a new concept "in shower moisturizers" when you can just use a great moisturizer on a wet body while standing on a dry Tshirt!!?? LOL. checked out The Shell Seekers today, looking forward to a great read! Have a wonderful day, Andrea! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!

in their defense...sometimes the marketing ploy at least helps guide people on a better way to actually use a product...wish it didn't come with a price uptick though
