Actually, they will go through their teen years, of I know everything, mom and dad don't. And, the "why do I have to be home for Shabbat dinner., my friends are waiting at the movies " stage...At 17, 18, its the... I'm an adult it's my life stage. Except Sonya and Mr Prep will of course, not tolerate such blatant nonsense. At 19, 20....while in college, probably away from home....they'll start calling mom begging her to come home for Shabbat dinner. They'll start telling all their adult college friends, how their mom is the best cook, loving, and amazing....they will miss their mom and dad. Be home every holiday, after college graduation, entering real adult world....they'll finally understand, and appreciate their younger years. And, the traditions, Shabbat dinners, and moms amazing cooking skills will finally have them realize how much they will continue their own family traditions. That's why you enjoy their young, innocent, loving years now....because every moment with them will be a reminder of how they will want to continue the same traditions. At 25, thats when the girls will start calling mom for everything, because mom always knows, and she's always right. Every child, teen, almost early 20's adulthood....goes through these stages. Mr and Mrs. Prep will remain strong in their marriage and the fruits of their hard labor will not be in vein. We are 5 kids. We have so many traditions, faith, family gatherings and lots of food. Now all of us 30's and 40's have continued the traditions and appreciate our parents even more. After we lost our dad in March of this year, we became even closer. Kids never forget. And, they will appreciate and have such respect for their parents after they realize how blessed they were as kids.

    • @Marion1457L
      @Marion1457L ปีที่แล้ว

You should not be so self righteous. You can’t predict what five different children will do when they reach adolescence and college age-or how their parents will respond. There are lots of different ways to be good Jews. Sonya’s Prep is excellent at showing the way that works for her family.

Hi Sonya, I am not Jewish but I love to watch how you prepare for Shabbat and the holidays! Your eldest son really loves to cook, and he did a great job! I think it is so sweet that your children enjoy themselves together while building memories and a religious foundation. I get nervous with children near mixers, hot oil etc. - so I give you a lot of credit for being so brave! I cringed when they were putting the flour in the mixer. Additionally, you look so much like your mother! My goodness - I could tell you are her daughter! I also like how clean you are with how you handle everything in your kitchen...so nice. I would buy brownies at your bake sale anytime! Thank you for sharing the traditions of your faith.

What a wonderful helper Yehoshua is for you with making latkes. Such a very capable and clever boy, BAH. My son Ezra, who is now married with sons of his own, was my helper with latkes. I like to handgrate the potatoes, and chop onions, as the coooked texture appeals to me, and I add some cinnamon to the mix. Sometimes I serve the latkes with applesauce, sometimes just plain.

  • @ingridpear1882

Yehoshua's latkes look fabulous! He's so talented, cooking is a great skill to have, and you guys are doing wonderful.
    Chag sameach chanuka 🕎🌨️❄️🔯✡️ from🇨🇦❤️!
Would love to see a video of you(or anyone on utube who'd want to) trying different latke toppings suggested in the comments,or other places, and rating them on paper - scale of 1 - 10, or very good,to fair,ok,to poor. If you still have a chance to fit that in.
The suggestion for around the world flavor last year was catchy -
Mexican: avocado,guac,salsa/pico de gajo, hot sauce, chile peppers sour cream
    Italian: tomato sauce, parsley, pesto
    Greek:feta,olives,goat cheese,pickled eggplant
    Indian: yogurt,(spinach)curry sauce,cumin, coriander, turmeric,ginger,garam masala coconut cream,paneer
Chinese: plum sauce, sweet and sour, soy sauce -miso - rice vinegar
    -------
    Jap: kimchi
    Thai: paste
    Australian: ketchup
    African:plantain fritters, sauce,Berbere spice blend/paste
    Mid-east:pickled turnips, hummus,labne with oil za'atar
    Cen.euro twist: Sour cream,mixed with horseradish,dill/parsley/chives/garlic. Mushrooms (mushroom powder),smoked paprika,(kosher/vegan deli), sauerkraut, cabbage,carrot,placki & veggie sauce
    English:salt & vinegar
Canadian: 'poutine style' gravy/(chili/hollandaise, or other fatty sauce) with cheese curds. Smoked trout/fish dip, onion dip, bean dip, Leamington tomatoes
    American:lox & cream cheese,ranch, honey mustard
    ----------
Sufganiyot: called in ,Slovak - shishki, Czech- pampushki, Polish - punchki, Romanian- gogosh 😊 little fact info)
Canadian: native fry bread - Saskatoon berry sauce (if I remember the berry correctly),"beaver tails" - cinnamon sugar. Suggestion - maple mousse/ganache .
    Greek: honey balls
    Euro: Nutella,jam
English: suggestion - jam & clotted cream
    😉🙂🥔🍟🍩
My toppings of choice are extra sprinkle raw garlic, grated cheese, and tomato sauce ,or chopped pickles 😄.( Our potato pancakes made by my grandparents by the recipe from my pra-babicka seemed coarser, starchier, and stronger tasting - even off-putting,l do like onions garlic but the combo texture not to my liking. We experimented with friends back in my teens, putting herbs, and no flour, tried adding breadcrumbs at home, and eventually came a little closer to the American potato fritter - like version. I'm ok with it now. I wouldn't put applesauce with the Garlicky flavor for me though.
Does anyone know if the fritter like version is original to what great-grandmothers' made, and that's the difference between a latke and a potato pancake,or if the fritter is a modern version?

Late comment. I made a beautiful Chanukah party this year for 4 generations bh. I told everyone that but Bobby is upgrading the menu. I made your meat pizza recipe beautifully decorated it. My married granddaughter thought that I bought it. I said no, this. New idea came from Sonya on u tube. Thanks I am learning a lot from you.

OMG, everything looks so amazing. That was a very clever trick to use the parchment paper pieces and drop the entire thing into the hot oil. I've never seen that before.

I love this video from my favorite TH-cam family. Such love and such delicious food. Your son did an AMAZING job!! And those donuts, Sonya, decadent and delicious. ❤❤Would you like to adopt me even though I am grown? However, with the food that you make I would require a personal trainer every day of the week so I could fit into my clothes. Happy Chanukah to you, your family, and your subscribers. May you all be blessed!❤❤❤

The donuts remind me of Krapfen/Berliner, which are sold in German bakeries and are especially popular around carnival. I love how so many cultures made their fried dough with sweet fillings.

Nice video. I like that you put importance to enjoy simple things. There is a lot of assidic jews in my town and for some reason they don't talk outside the community and simply ignore us. Your videos are very important because it's a bridge between communities. I appreciate the effort you do to introduce us to your world. What you can do as a family activity is scrapbooking. It's very much like cooking together. I love doing this beside cooking. 🙂 ( The donuts are great)

I am on kidney dialysis and your sweet smile and gentle voice gas kept me company whenever I have to go. I can't wait to try some of your delicious recipes. Also, your husband seems so nice and your kiddos are so adorable and well mannered. Like them, I grew up in the kitchen with my mom and grandma as well. I feel this is a wonderful thing that they learn young not to be afraid of thw kitchen. Much love to you and yours❤

My son loves them with ketchup( gross) when he was at daycamp one of his camp mates would eat them with ketchup and ever since ,that is how he prefers them. Even though we’ve made them together ever since he was young as three. I truly believe in if you have children they should be in the kitchen with you learning, growing and developing an appreciation for food and how it is made.
