Great content as always Josh, I made the grand total of one successful connection with my g90, none on the x6100, hopefully changing the average with my ft710.
Very helpful Josh. I've been trying to connect on HF Winlink for some time. While connecting on 2m is very easy, I have yet to make a successful connection to an RMS via HF. So you had some tips in here that will hopefully help me out, things I haven't tried. Recently changed out my antenna from an 9:1 RW to a 40m Dipole. Sorry I missed the livestream! Thanks again!

I am up & running. Gotta say the software side of my setup was easy. The radio config with my 991a was my stumbling block, but finally got it. One menu setting out of many was wrong & held everything up. Highly advise find a io group for your specific radio or YT search your model & winlink setup. Don't give up! Great info Josh. 73 K0ATV
Sometimes the Yaesu menus to get setup on digital modes is a little weird.
Been working on this for a few days. IC705 works great wirelessly. Flex 3000 does not work that great. Old reliable TS-850 works also. Great video like all of them

Over the years I haven't (and still can't) get Vara to work with my setup, but Ardop does pretty easily and controls my Yaesu 450D. Any big differences or disadvantages?

I am trying to use my uBitx to access winlink but i belive is a bit off the frequency. How acurrate does the frequency have to be to access a station.

Winlink works great in wine, so yes that means both on Linux an Mac. I do __ALL__ my computing solely in Linux, and that includes all my radio stuff.
I have a 7610. I have followed your setup. Once I start a session my TX light on the 7610 goes red and stays red. I am not receiving anything. WJST-X works perfect. Any ideas??? My 705 with the surface works perfect.
Thank for the information. Our ARES uses Winlink to send information from Hurricane shelters to the EOC! I am having trouble seeing up Vara FM. We have the EOC's for the countys are all on the same Frequency to make it easy to hit one. From West Palm to Melbourne we can send just by changing the call sign for who we want to send to!. We have FEMA test sometimes. 73 W4DES
IC-7300: Were do you find the Icom adress were you have put 98? And USB og USB digital?

What is the FCC's stance on attaching a cryptographic signature to messages so that the sender's identity can be verified? Not encrypting the message, just attaching a 1 way cryptographic hash to it, such as we used to do with pgp and gpg.
That is not allowed
Josh is right but the FCC should change their minds.
Can you use a SIGNALINK with Win Link?
Yes, I use my Signalink with VARA on HF and VHF FM.
HELP, maybe someone can help me out here.
I try to get vara running with a Yaesu FT-950 an the SCU-17 sound card.
FT8 works great but VARA wont Key up the rig.
In the Vara Monitor screen i can se the TX light is flashing but the rig wont key up.
Where is my problem??
can anyone help me out. btw WJTX is working with omnitig, but i cant found any way to choose omnirig in the VARA setup-
Do you have USB AUDIO CODEC selected for Input and Output in the VARA Soundcard setup?

As a Linux guy, VARA makes me nervous. Wish they would port it.
I'd love a Mac native version and would happily pay for it.
Well all I got to say is winlink doesn't work for me I've tried everything I can think of and I just can't get a connection with anything other when it first starts.
I get a successful connection with vara tnc but that's it. So I think I'm done with it
I'm using a icom7300 with a dx commander classic there is no reason anyway that my two cents. KG5ZLO
Update got my winlink to work the setting on the CI-V BAUD Rate was set to19200 I changed it to 9600 and the laptop and radio started working together.
WInlink seems pretty cool but the setup is not working like Josh is explaining. Simply opening a session I do not get the same screen he has. It gives me a telnet winlink session. Should be simple to follow.
Interesting comment "who beside Emcomm Hams use Winlink VARA?" ALL of a sudden, Winlink + VARA become important to establish email service to Poland who is sheltering Ukrainian refugees. We live in a different world now.! How many copies of Winlink and VARA have been downloaded in the last 3 days?

A couple questions re Licensing (varac) is this what a licensed copy would look like, (I'm thinking you probably have to have one to do this ?) . As you can tell, I'm clueless. I have the demo so far. That said, I've seen various kits for 9/1 and 49/1 baluns available and most use far to small of toroids . Check better youtube channels and find out how to build a full size one and you'll do much better. One guy was using one of the kits and had a sideband transimission for the weather, and slowly but surely his signal faded , I'll bet his toroid from the kit was smoking !
