    Honestly it seems like 90% of the videos i search for show up from your channel but they always end up being in a livestream and more often than not im not in the mood to dedicate hours of my time to sift through the live stream to find the 10 minutes of content i actually came for 🤣🤣 but clearly your making the right videos

    If you have an IC-705, don't forget that it has built in GPS, so with the right software you can sync your laptop's clock using the single USB cable connection to the 705. This eliminates the need to tie up another USB port with a separate GPS device which is awesome and results in less clutter when traveling light for POTA/SOTA or the like.

    Glad you discovered Win10 Debloat for the Evolve. Chris Titus Tech has another handy PowerShell script called: 'One Tool for Everything'. I use it on my Evolve III Maestro & the $99.00 ASUS also from Micro Center. There are add'l tweaks that can be applied with Task Scheduler, mostly DISABLING processes that don't need to be running, nor scheduled. Task Manager shows a somewhat steady 4% CPU under IDLE when optimized on these low spec laptops.

    ASUS BR1100CK 'KIDS' laptop is designed for rough use and spills, has two USB ports (one is USB 3) costs under 100 dollars, at Microcenter, same ram and memory, and deserves consideration as a ham field computer. 73 DE W8LV BILL

    • @w8lvradio
      @w8lvradio ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HamRadioCrashCourse Unfortunately, no, and it's here that things get flaky: Reading the back of the computer, the spec says "19V 2.37A / 15V 3A 45W USB type C"... I'm guessing that the latter part means for the charger itself? So far, I haven't been able to find a cigarette lighter cord buck converter to type C "ThingaMaBob Whatchamacallit Dohickee Adaptor" for it...Any suggestions?
      Other than the "12 bolt question", It should be pointed out that the ASUS BR1100CK 'KIDS' laptop is also built in a modular fashion, so that it can be easily disassembled and repaired. Even the case screws are made so that as you take the laptop apart, you won't lose them! This is a VERY THOUGHTFUL design by Asus and even at the low price point, Every replacement part of this computer is available from Asus, and I say that's good on them!.
      All the Best! 73 DE W8LV BILL

    25:45 Wait wait wait. I’ve been guessing at these settings (other than Baud) whenever I setup FT8 & JS8Call and you’re telling me that the info I needed was in the Device Manager the whole time?!
    I’ve watched probably 2 dozen different digital mode setup videos and they all basically just say “these are the settings that work for my setup, yours may be different.”🤦‍♂️
    Thank you so much, Josh!

      Yep. No secrets, it’s device manager. 🤣

  • @lyfandeth
    @lyfandeth ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Beware, Device Manager will assign the COM port numbers based on which physical usb socket the device is plugged into, and whatever the next port number is. So if you plug in the mouse before you plug in the gps, their port numbers may be reversed if you plug the gps in first. If you change anything, always recheck the device manager.

    Just bought one of these off Amazon and it came without the LTE/sim card slot and it charges through USB-C instead of 12v barrel jack, $104 from Amazon. I see that Micro Center has them for $40 but will not ship. I solved the 12v problem with a cigarette lighter to USB-C adapter. Still a reasonably good deal at $104, I think. Thanks for the tip on the debloat. Regards, Jim

    How do you setup your computer to recognize 2 com ports. Have a Surface pro with a USB extender. Using the (TR)uSDX. So have 2 usb cables, one going directly to the (TR)uSDX and the other going to the DIGIRIG Audio unit. Unable to get the computer to see these com ports when connected to the USB extender. The surface pro is a USB c to USB extender standard USB ports. Trying to get digital with the (TR)uSDX and to get the computer to see the 2 ports separately. Any help would be appreciated.

    I use a Chuwi Hi10X Windows Only not the Dual Boot Model and It came with Win. 10 Home and I put Win. 10 Pro on it and it works Great I won't use a "Windows S" OS or a Chromebook OS Tablet for ham Radio. My Chuwi Hi10X has inside intel N4120, 128G SSD and 6Gb of Ram Non Removeable that is the only down Side and it Works Great for ham Radio and I have a 265Gb Micro SD Card in it but I have a Home Sever and I can do Remote in and use my Workstation with 24 Core Xeon CPU 96Gb of Ram 24Tb total of Drive Space and with a old Nvdia K80 and a RTX 2080 Ti and I have a old Quadro M6000 24Gb laying around if I ever go back to Editing Video but the Nvdia K80 with the RTX 2080Ti works Great for my Everyday use at home and Remoting into with the Hi10X to run my Icom IC-7300 and my Icom IC-9700 and if you get a Chuwi Hi10X and have Problems with Running Videos off TH-cam the Screen Jumping around Go into the browser Settings and Shut off "use hardware acceleration when available" and this Totally Fixs the Screen Jumping around when playing TH-cam Videos it took me forever to Figure that out for no one could tell me why the the Screen was Jumping around when playing TH-cam Videos. Other then that the Battery in the Chuwi had to be Replaced after 3 years of use but that is Easy as can be your 8 year old can do that with the Right Tools and the Tools are Dirt Cheap all you need is a Cheap Set of Cell Phone Tools $10 USD just the Basics and you will need more then Likely to buy a After market Battery but Very Easy Simple Stuff and it Last on Battery for Days on one Charge with the Batteries it comes with and like I said the OEM Batteries Lasted 3 years and buy the Hi10x with the Keyboard and Pen and the Hi10x with the Intel N4120, 128Gb SSD, 6Gb Ram and it has Two Micro USB 3.0 one Charges the Tablet but you can use it if Data too and the other Micro USB 3.0 is only Data and the Keyboard don't use Bluetooth it use's a Dock with Very Strong Earth Magnets it won't Fall off you can hold it upside down by the Keyboard and the Tablet Stay Firmly together to the Keyboard and the Keyboard has Two Full Size USB A 2.0 Plugs and with ham Radio most of our things we Plug in is Full Size USB A 2.0 Stuff and it has a Mic + Headphone in one plug and a it has a Micro SD Reader Built in and as I said run a 256Gb Micro SD card in it but most of my Stuff is on my Home Network and the Hi10x it is Well Worth what there Going for today I got mine Brand New 3 years ago come Jan. 1st 2023 and I got it for $325.00 USD with Shipping and Tax with the Pen and Keyboard and today there much Cheaper and Don't buy with anything less then the 128Gb SSD with 6Gb Ram and now in Days Chuwi has So many better Tablets and Laptops to Choice from then the Hi10x only thing I don't like about the Hi10x is the SSD is Not M.2 and the SSD and Ram is Soldered in and you should buy one of there Newer Better Models that has Removeable M.2 SSD and Removeable Ram and I wouldn't waste my Time with the Dual Boot OS Models that have Windows and Android them ones that do Both don't do Both Great they Do Both somewhat Ok so if your a Android Person go with Android but if your like Me and ALL Windows then you know go with Windows but the Dual Boot on a Budget I just don't feel like they are there yet for Budget Models and I Don't Run Window 11 on Anything not they won't it's I won't for I know Windows 10 Pro Very Well and that is what I'm comfortable with and I know works Great with my Setups. and I have a Icom IC-7300, Icom IC-9700 Kenwood Th-D74A and a Bunch of Baofengs for Abusing and using without Fear of Braking and being out Lots of money. and I have ALL the Icom Programs the CS-9700, RS-BA1 V2 Control Software, HRD, UISS, NetLogger, Chirp, Fldigi, SSTV I have 4 Diff. Softwares for that, I have 4 Diff. Softwares for Ham Satellites Many Many Diff. SDR Softwares ALL the Free Softwares form Icom too for the IC-7300 and the IC-9700 and Winlink and many Many Many Others Like WSJT-X and JTAlert so Great out there and have Fun and you Don't have to Spend Big money on PC's or Radios to get on the Bands and many Things work you can go from very Cheap to Very expensive. Don't ask my Call Sign I do have a FCC Ham Lc. but this is my Undercover user on TH-cam

    "Jankopotomus" = EVOLVE III brand, "Meastro E-Book" model $60 12-volt fanless 11.6" with Celeron N3450 1.1GHz (4G LTE optional) supporting Windows 10, 11, or linux. I'm still looking for its idle and high load wattage levels for solar / battery use. But I had read the BIOS has an option to limit power to 9W which would be decent considering the included screen, etc. If I find tested power consumption stats, I'll add them here. Since many of us operate with solar / battery, I really wish there were more power comparisons of e-books, mini PCs, and single board computers (SBCs). CNX-Software has covered a lot of mini PCs but no e-books like this.

    I used a MS Surface Go on a SOTA activation to spot myself using 30m APRS. It was a pain in the ass wrangling the extra hardware while sitting on a rock on top of a hill. It didn't help that I was switching between making SSB contacts and spotting myself on the next frequency. There's gotta be a better way to do this stuff. (Incidentally, the APRS on 30m worked a treat. Will be very useful if I try to activate a summit in an area with no cell or VHF digipeater coverage. Got gated to internet by a station near Seattle from on top of a hill in Utah.)

      I had the same experience. ANY modern computer will run near 100 percent the first time you turn it on, some times for days. Especially if you link it to your Microsoft account and turn on any service connected to OneDrive. After that initial "setup" I can now turn on the Evolve III and with in a minute will be idling near Zero activity. I am sure debloat is a useful script for your typical Windows PC, but I am not convinced there is much bloat on the Evolve III since it was destined for the education market and it has little or no adware or "freeware" installed.
      Also I am VERY cautious to run any script or application that does not explicitly indicate WHAT it is removing or turning off. I quickly scanned the Git-Hub page and didn't see any documentation. So I'll pass for now.

    • @Jeff_AA8HF
