    2:25 I'm not a boat engine guru by a long shot but, some of these oil plugs have a built in magnet. If you have one of these, it should go in the bottom hole. This attracts random bits of ferrous shavings that may be loose in the lower unit. Usually a pair of oil plugs will come with one magnetic(bottom) and one non-magnetic(top.)

    Ok, I'm new to outboard as I just bought my first boat. I come from the motorcycle/automotive world and it blows my mind that this entire motor only needs like 400ml of fluid. Like I was looking all over the motor for crank case oil fill/drain, but I guess the only fluid is the lower unit! Crazy.

    Excellent video! Nice warm outdoor weather you have for that job. It takes a little longer up here in Canada at the end of the season during November! The tubing is stiff, the oil is cold and thick, temperature around the freezing mark. But we still had fun because the summer was great!

    They are plugs not bolts. They are also different ,the lower one has a magic tip and the top one does not. Also raise up the engine a little bit to drain all the oil. If you don’t change the oil every 12 years you don’t care about that lower unit at all. Change and replace gaskets a min. Of every two years. A lower in cost a lot of money to replace.

    Do I have to mix oil and gas if I have an oil reservoir? New to boats but I have a reservoir with an oil cap, and a separate reservoir on the hull where I fill the gas up

    • @g4outdoors
      @g4outdoors  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If it a 2stroke motor with an oil reservoir and the oil injector pump is working correctly… No you don’t need to pre mix the gas with oil… but if your oil Pump is not working and you notice the reservoir is not getting lower and are needing to add more oil, then your oil pump may not be working at that point YES I would premix my fuel!
      If it’s a 2stroke it will consume oil
      If it a 4stroke it’s like a car the oil is contained and will need to be changed after how ever many hours of use, like a car

  • @brettwinstead
    @brettwinstead ปีที่แล้ว

    When I tried this, something weird happened. Eventually the oil just stopped flowing into the lower unit and started seeping out the edges of the pump where it screws in to the bottle. I could not get any more oil into the motor and it would not seep out of the top section like it's supposed to. I had plenty of oil left in the 32 oz container but it just kept seeping out of the pump itself. I'm kind of getting the feeling that my pump sort of exploded even though it was brand new. Should I just get a new pump and try again? Thank you.
