Another excellent “rehab” video! I recently acquired a Marx 666 train set, and the Loco shows signs of wanting to run, so I’ll use your video as my guide to return this fine train back to service. Thanks, Marx Man! 🚂😊
I like your service of your 500 Marx Army Supply locomotive. I think you explain well step by step process. Can you let me know specifically where you get your led bulb, like the voltage and item number. Thanks for sharing
I get the LED bulbs off of eBay. They are 12-16 volts. The other LEDs I use are mini lights from Evan Design. I use those when lighting items not previously lit. The LED bulbs from eBay have a frequent failure rate, when they work they’re great, but some of them fail almost immediately.
it is not necessary to pull the brush plate to clean the brushes, use a sewing needle to lift the brushes out of the wells, clean them and the armature and reinstall. ALSO THE BOTTOM SCREW ON THE BRUSH PLATE IS GROUND FOR THE BRUSHES, IF THAT SCREW IS LOOSE OR MISSING THE MOTOR WILL NOT RUN...
I’ve watched many of your videos, and learned a lot. How would I clean the commutator plate with the brush plate in place? (Some of my locomotives are filthy when I get them.)
I tested a Marx 1829 on a circle of 027 track. I have not done anything to it just wanted to see if it would run. I bought it on ebay over a decade ago. I tested it today and the 1829 ran briefly but only in reverse while looked like it may have been sparking from motor not sure. Then moment later it would not run at all just would sit on track and hum at even full throttle while the light works. Do you think this could be from a stuck e-unit? Has not been run much as there is only light wear on contact shoe.
E unit is probably the culprit. Try electronic cleaner sprayed into the unit, then shake the motor up and down ( you should hear the plugger hitting while you are shaking it). I have also used WD40, some people disagree with this, but I haven’t had any problems with it.
Marx guy here, in your last video, you displayed a Marx C/P that you sent to Canida to have refinished. Does that individual have a sight, for I would like to see other examples of his work? Thanks, and GOD BLESS.
@@OldFrailandDecrepit ,thought it was Zoltan. Thanks for the fiberglass pencil idea. I use a small 90 deg. pick to lift springs out of way on brush plate. Jesus is the way.

You are some of an artist/Pierre/Joliette/Quebec/Canada
Great video Dave. I never seen a fiberglass pencil, but it looks like it works well.
I got mine on Amazon.
@@OldFrailandDecrepit Thank you Dave
Informative video, but if you could make sure when you are showing something that you are in the camera frame. Thanks

okay thanks for the heads up so I should get led bulbs from Evan Design? Is that seller Evan Design not from ebay?
@@darius7760 No, search them on google.

Oh my god. The legend, idk
Where do you get the LED bulb?
eBay. I am not impressed with them, some quit working after a short time. I do like the ones from Evan Designs.
I couldn`t have done better. I have wondered, why are those Marx Army trains so popular? After all they`re just a C/P with a different paint job.
Slap a little “Olive Drab” on a train and call it Army, was a sure seller.

Thanks I will try that
Just buy a can of electrical cleaning fluid and soak the whole motor assembly in it for a few hours, let it dry then relube it.

On the Marx trains Facebook group, one of the members has put together an album of his customs. His name is Zoltan.

I resemble that phrase myself.
