Fantastic. I’m putting In a tin ceiling cornice, I wanted more of a copper or gold to match my light fixture and door hardware. The tin panels are tin plated steel. So this should give the look I want and retain the metallic look better than paint would.
Thanks for the accolades. And I have restored a Santa Fe passenger set. You'll see it in the background on my other video titled "My Marx Train Layout"' I'm in the process of designing a mold to make reproductions of the scenic window for the vista dome car.
I have the entire set in the original box. The dummy locomotive has a busted coupler. Are those plastic couplers easy to replace? I just uploaded a video of my set running. every piece needs to be thoroughly washed and cleaned.
Hi Bob great video as always. Well guess what! My daughter bought me a train set for Christmas , marx of course. This engine is a 490 with chug chug sound in it. Not in the tender but in the engine. Theres Montgomery label on it, it as a 50 watt transformer with it but my daughter also bought me a 100 watt transformer marx for 3 dollars there is nothing wrong with ot what a Christmas. Merry Christmas Bob and happy new Year youre marxs friend bernie.
Your daughter has an excellent choice of trains! And by that, I mean not only being a Marx, but the 490 with the chugging option is very rare, and worth much to some collectors. Great find Bernie!
@@Marxmotorman I had no idea the Marx 490 with the chugging feature was rare! I have identical twin sets that I was pretty much given for free, headed up by 490s that have it! I only got around to fixing up one of em so far, been a while since I've taken it out for a spin.
Can't tell you where to get the spray can since I don't use them. And yes, it's the same stuff that's used in woodworking. Let me know how you make out. Good luck.
Great video, very handy tip to know! Did you purchase the decals or make them? If the former, from who? If the latter, what was your process/what materials did you use?
Marx guy here, outstanding finish on all pieces. You`re a true artist and craftsman.
Always good to hear from you Plunker. And thanks for the accolades.

Thanks Steve. Always good to hear from you.
Excellent video and results. Could you please tell us about your decal making process (or where you get them)? Thanks so much!!
Thank you. I'm not making decals - - - yet. The ones in the video I got from eBay.
You are a true artist, I love your work! The copper finish looks amazing. Have you restored a Marx Santa Fe passenger set? Frank

Yes, very easy., but the spring can be a little tricky. If you have a problem, I can make a short video showing the process.
That would be awesome. I’ll check eBay for a replacement coupler right now. Thank you!😊
Very nice!
Thank you.

I'm no expert, but I belong to a Marx forum, and it was mentioned that they were. I hope they're right.
Great video Bob I have one I need to do that copper finish to , if you don’t mind what is the Amber finish . Brand name if you would ? Thanks Rick
It's Minwax, but I'm sure any type of amber shellac will do. Good luck.
Awesome job! Were can you find the amber shellac in a spray can? Is it the same stuff you use in woodworking?

Thanks. I purchased the decals on Ebay.
Excellent Finnish thank you
