Acts 10:47-48 King James Version (KJV)
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

They are already saved, then commanded to be baptized. Read the next chapter, specifically Acts 11:15-17, where Peter never mentions his water baptism to the Jewish brethren. He mentions John the Baptist's water baptism, but then refers to what he remembers that the "word of the Lord "says about being "baptized in the Holy Spirit." Shalom...

We need to be careful of the message that we're sending to new converts, false converts, Catholics, and the like about this matter. If water baptism is not a big deal, why does the Lord emphasize it and set the example himself? To me it is a command, and we ought to obey it. Now I understand that there are people who may have difficulty complying with it. The Lord has already provided for this lack. In our capacity as teachers, let's proclaim the Gospel like it is, repentance, water baptism, and confession of the lordship of Jesus-Christ then the Lord himself will perform the baptism in the Holy spirit. Oftentimes, the elaborate discussion/analysis/reasoning/rationale around this issue as it relates to salvation creates too much confusion, and this could be harmful to many in the faith. Water baptism does not save, but it is an act of obedience/faith with profound spiritual significance and that should not be undermined. I'd encourage everybody who have the wherewithal to get baptized in water to do it without delay.

I like this comment. I think people on both sides of this issue within the church are making it more complicated than what it is. We need to believe, repent, and be baptized..period. I know we don’t need to be baptized to initiate or receive salvation, but Jesus did tell us to, and therefore it is important for us to be obedient to. I myself, and others I know were saved through belief and repentance before we were able to be baptized. God did a work in our hearts before we hit the water. We began to change our minds and actions in regards to sin and reverence to God. It’s like I would have to reject what God did in my heart/life to receive the opposite doctrine. I’m glad I understood what salvation was and the significance of baptism, before I was baptized.

The only issue I have with what you said is that how you stated this implies that we should repent, go through water baptism and confess the lordship of Christ THEN the Lord will perform the baptism in to the Holy Spirit. We are baptized into the Holy Spirit at the moment we truly believe THEN comes the water baptism. We should make every effort to be baptized in water AFTER we have put our trust in Christ's redemptive work, but it is not required to be saved.

The Book of Acts is Historical with the Emphasis on Jesus Christ the rejected Savior by the Jewish Generation that would perish at the Destruction of The Temple and Jerusalem in 70 AD. Matthew 23:34-36; Luke 19:41-44.
Peter tells the "House of Israel" to Repent (those who did) instantaneously were Born Again. Then comes Baptism. But read to verse 40 and you will see Peter then tells them to “Be saved from this perverse generation!” The new Believers, all from (the house of Israel) Acts 2:36, had to separate themselves from this generation that had crucified Jesus, in order to escape the coming judgement.

Where did you read anywhere in the Old Testament where they were promised heaven, only long life, death, wives, children, sheep, goats, kingdoms, kingdoms taken away etc.. The was not a permanent means of justification, no one could keep all of the commandments, breaking one made you guilty of them all. The remedy is God giving us a new heart not us changing ours. God giving us a new heart is how we are born from above (again) read Ezekiel 36:25-27 which is what Jesus was referring to when talking to Nicodemus

Interesting to say the least. For salvation today, water baptism is not required according to the word of God.
To be saved today, you only need to believe the "Gospel of Christ"
      Rom 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
What is the Gospel of Christ?
      1 Cor 15: 3-4
      3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Jesus died on the cross for your sins, buried and rose the 3rd day! That the gospel of Christ!!!
There is only one baptism in this dispensation of grace and it's perform by God Himself!
      Eph 4:5
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
This one baptism is done by the operation of God!
      Col 2: 12
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
So no stage, diploma or water needed.

Second, he argues that the Bible mentions several examples of people who were saved without being baptized, such as the thief on the cross. Third, he points out that Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12:13 that the identifying marker of every believer is the Holy Spirit, not baptism.
The speaker also addresses the argument that Jesus was baptized. He says that Jesus was baptized to fulfill all righteousness, and that his baptism was not the same as the baptism that is required for salvation.
In conclusion, the speaker argues that water baptism is not necessary for salvation. He says that faith in Jesus Christ is what saves a person, and that baptism is simply an outward expression of that faith.

The words πορευθέντες and βαπτίζοντες in this context, even though they are sort of participles, still constitute commands. To make it as plain as possible, Ιn Greek a participle can be used instead of a direct command as part of the sentence in context, ie Πορευθέντες αγοράστε φρούτα - "As you go buy fruit" but in reality "Go buy fruit". The direct command is the "buy" but πορευθέντες is also part of that command as it suggests that it's imperative one will go, a fact. Bαπτίζοντες has one more aspect to it as it is dependant on the μαθητεύσατε, ie its meaning is not "as you baptise" but plain "baptise" denoting to a repetitive action: "On the way baptise". The translation of plain "Go" instead of "As you go" is correct. Any Greek would consider the whole sentence a command including the "As you go" and "baptise" parts. However I agree with you that water baptism is not necessary for salvation.

Baptism is called the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit, for it signifies and actually brings about the birth of water and the Holy Spirit without which no one can enter the Kingdom of God. ( Titus 3:5. John 3:5 )
By Baptism all sins are forgiven, original sin and all personal sins as well as all punishment for sin,
After Baptism any sins committed have to be forgiven and absolved.
People who desire to be baptised, but through no fault of their own, are unable to be Then they are Baptised without being a Sacrament.

I don't understand how you can say that there is no command in the greek to be baptized.
Matthew 28:18-20 - "baptizing" is joined with the command to make disciples. It is conjugated in the plural. Biblically, it is Jesus (singular) that baptizes us in the Holy Ghost. The plural subject refers to the audience... the disciples. To assert that he is implying another plural subject is to read something into the text that is not there.
Acts 2:28 - "Repent and be baptized" Be baptized is passive because one does not baptize himself, however it is joined with the imperative "repent" and is to be treated as a command.
Acts 10:48 - "And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord" here we see that be baptized (passive) is paired with the command to do so.
Acts 22:16 - "arise, and be baptized" This form of "be baptized" is actually imperative in the greek.
You are correct in stating that salvation is not through water baptism, but some of your logic seems like you are trying to make distinctions that are not really there.

water baptism was commanded according to the scriptures. It IS IMPORTANT according to the scriptures. But it does not save you. It is a symbol of something significant just like communion and feet washing (which we were commanded to do, but not for receiving salvation). It is encouraged to obey God even though that’s not what initiates salvation, obeying God keeps you in right relationship with him. We do well to obey his word, and not downplay water baptism. That would be akin to downplaying communion. Is it needed for salvation if you can’t do it? No. But if you read and understand that Jesus is saying to do it, it would be dangerous for you to just reject the commandment of the Lord.

Hi Corey. I've been concerned about my salvation as one born as a Catholic and baptized close to my birth. I was worried that I wasn't saved as I hadn't done a water baptism on the day I repented of my sins. This has been a matter on my mind for a while, and I thought that baptism was necessary because of John 3:5, where Jesus says that we need to be born of water and the Spirit. Thus I thought that there needs to be both water and Spirit baptisms. Not to mention that Jesus' disciples baptized with water as well, and Philip baptized the eunuch as well. But I would be torn because of what John the Baptist said of Jesus, that He would baptize with the Spirit and with fire. Then I'd just get dizzy from the confusion...

Your argument doesn’t really dispute the Lutheran view of baptism. It is necessary to get baptized but not absolutely necessary… as in, you won’t go to hell if for some reason you couldn’t be baptized. 1 Cor 10:1-2 Paul is connecting Moses to baptism which doesn’t make sense if you are trying make a symbolic comparison to salvation considering Moses and his people were literally saved. They were not saved by anything they did, but rather because they were represented by God’s representative, Moses. Just like how Christians who are baptized are saved because our representative is Christ. There are also verses where baptism is connected to the LITERAL saving of Noah and his family from the flood.
As for 1 Peter 3:21 - yes, the washing of dirt does not make us clean from the water, but rather when our sin is forgiven and we are saved, we have a clean conscience. It makes no sense for Peter to say that “baptism now saves you” if he didn’t want to communicate that very point lol

Again, the thief was forgiven before Jesus died. And he died long before the Great Commission in which believers are required to be bsptized for the forgiveness of their sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mk. 16:15-16). You and I are under the Great Commission. The thief was not. Therefore baptism in the name of Jesus didnt apply to him or anyone else who died before Christ gave the Great Commission.
And Acts 2:38 is a command to submit to baptism not only because it is in the imperative, but because you dont baptize yourself. Somebody else is doing it (Mt. 28:18-20). Also , Acts 2:38 is water (cf, Acts 10:47-48).

we hear Paul's Gospel we believe it we recieve and are sealed with the holy spirit ! then the spirit baptizes us into the body of christ !
      1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
the one baptism for the body of christ is after we believe the spirit baptizes us into the body its not the Jewish water baptism , its not the outpouring.

Jesus said in Luke 24:47 " Remission of sins to be preached in my name would begin in Jerusalem.." and this happens in Acts 2. Peter preaches the first gospel sermon and in v37 they asked, " What must we do"? and Peter tells them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins....". We know this is water baptism by reading Acts 10:47-48 , Peter says, " Can any one forbid water for baptizing these people... v48 " and he COMMANDED them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ". So, baptism in the name of Jesus is water baptism and it is for the remission of sins. It goes on to say in Acts 2 that those who received the word and were baptized, that the Lord added them to the saved, v41 & v47. In Acts 2 only the apostles received the HS baptism, not the 3000 who were baptized in water.
In Acts 10:33 it says, " Now therefore we are all in the present in the sight of God, to hear all that you have BEEN COMMANDED BY THE LORD". And in v 48 it says, " AND HE COMMANDED THEM to be baptized in the name of Jesus...", so water baptism was commanded by the Lord. In Acts 8, Philip and the Eunuch, it says in v35 that Philip preached about the good new of Jesus....and as they went along ......the Eunuch said, " Here is water! what prevents me from being baptized....", so how did the Eunuch know about water baptism? when it says Philip preached Jesus to him? and also the Eunuch was not baptized in the HS.
In Acts 22:10 Paul ask " What shall I do Lord?" and the Lord said " Go into Damascus and there you will be told...." and Paul was told in v16 " Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name"....so, where was Paul baptized in the HS? In 1 Cor 1:12-13 we see that in order to BELONG TO CHRIST, you must be baptized in the name of Jesus. Paul says to them, " some say, I BELONG to Paul, or I belong to Apollos, or I belong to Cephas, or I belong to Christ. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were you baptized in the name of Paul? What about Cephas? Apollos? No, they were not crucified for you, nor were you baptized into their name, so YOU DO NOT BELONG TO THEM. But what about Jesus? Yes he was crucified for me and yes I WAS BAPTIZED IN HIS NAME, so I BELONG TO HIM. Baptism in his name is water baptism, Acts 10:47-48...so I must be baptized in his name to BELONG TO HIM. Lastly, water baptism is a command by the Lord and Jesus said, "if you love me you will keep my commandments.........

Heb 6:1-2 shows a list of the ‘foundational principles of the doctrine of Christ.’
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of THE DOCTRINE OF BAPTISMS, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
We clearly see baptism listed a one of the foundational principles of the doctrine of Christ. Notice that it is listed as plural, baptism(s).
In Ephesians we read that there is one baptism:
    Eph 4:5-6
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all
But taking the whole of scripture into account we also see that there are two aspects of this baptism. Water & Spirit.
    Jn 3:5
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
    Acts 10:47
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
and in exampled by “type and shadow” in
    1 Cor 10:1-2
    1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea
We also see that after the command to repent and be baptized(in water) was given, the church continued in the doctrine preached by the apostles.
    Acts 2:42
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Lastly Paul warns in 2 Tim 3:1-7
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
    4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 HAVING A FORM OF GODLINESS, BUT DENYING THE POWER THEREOF: FROM SUCH TURN AWAY.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 EVER LEARNING, AND NEVER ABLE TO COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH.
Beware of anyone teaching to forsake the foundational principles.

Question about your quote of Acts 10:47, why would you quote that to try to prove your argument.. “Those who have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” They received the Holy Ghost preceding baptism.. Being Born of God, Born again is how we know we are saved.. 1 John 5:1.
What true christian would deny an ordinance or obedience to Christ? We aren’t saved by the water, we are saved by the Spirit. Baptism is a ceremony.. was Abraham saved because of circumcision? No, he was deemed righteous by faith, Genesis 15:6. True faith produces good works, sure, but you saved by your faith.
No one is arguing the importance of baptism, but to say it’s a requirement for salvation is teaching faith + something and you are teaching that the finished work the cross isn’t enough for you to be saved, taking away from what Christ did for all of us.

    • @BrandtRowland
      @BrandtRowland 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

We are saved by grace alone, faith alone, in Christ alone. Nothing more, nothing less.

    • @TheEmptyeye
      @TheEmptyeye 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@BrandtRowland Acts 10:47 shows the necessity of both. As confirmed in
      Acts 11:16-17
16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
To deny water would be to “withstand God”.
Water baptism is not an outward show for men but it is obedience and faith towards God.
      ----
There is only one place in scripture that says “faith” “alone” and that is James 2.
That ‘belief’ and “understanding” of faith alone is the continued fulfillment of what people have been doing with Paul’s writings since the Bible days. It’s actually frightening to witness.
      2 Pet 3:16
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
To take what Paul said about “saved by grace” in Ephesians, that was addressed to people that had already OBEYED the gospel by believing and being baptized(in water) and receiving the Holy Spirit(Acts 19) to say that any of those things were NOT necessary because he afterwards wrote “grace alone” is one of the clearest examples of “wresting/twisting” Paul’s letters to destructive ends.
      ----
Does faith in Christ mean to only believe who He is and what He did? Or is Faith in Him also believing and obeying what He said?
Jn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Do you believe what Jesus said?

    • @BrandtRowland
      @BrandtRowland 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I mean faith and obeying a command is faith + something and we are told in scripture we are justified by faith?
In the beginning of your message you stated the difference between the two, Water and Spirit. With that logic which one saves?
You completely rip John 3:5 out of context and fail to see its a reference to Ezekiel 35:25 where Spirit and water are tied together, as well as John 4:14 and countless other passages inferencing Spirit and Water as one thing, why would Jesus have rebuked Nicodemus for being a teacher of Israel and not knowing something that wasn’t even in play yet? That makes 0 sense, if you look at it with no preconceived notion is pretty obvious.. Nicodemus was a Jew, he knew the old testament and should have been expecting this to come to pass. To even say this is a reference to water baptism is mind boggling to me.
May I also add, why would a true professing Christian with true saving faith deny getting baptized? He wouldn’t.. he’s saved already prior to the ceremony.
Was Abraham counted righteous by faith or by circumcision? and if your argument is old testament why would Paul reference it?
How about 1 John 5:1 or 1 John 5:10? Seems to me being born again is from believing? Not from water baptism.
What about Romans 4:28, and Romans 4:5? Well is his faith counted for righteousness, or is it not?
What about 1 Corinthians 12:13? or Philippians 3:9?
I am not saying you shouldn’t be baptized.. but to say you are counted righteous when you get baptized in water is teaching contradictory the Word.. and if you say no it’s not, then why do so many verses contradict what you think?

    See also: - Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38, Acts 16:15
Mark 16:16 - Jesus says to the crowd, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved." But in reference to the same people, Jesus immediately follows with "He who does not believe will be condemned." This demonstrates that one can be baptized and still not be a believer. This disproves the Protestant argument that one must be a believer to be baptized. There is nothing in the Bible about a "believer's baptism."

early church father explain and understand there are ppl that may not have a lake or ocean nearby. they explain they can use sprinkling of water to baptize. my thing is if ur healthy, why not go ahead and get baptize. Jesus said if u love me, obey my commandment. i just think we make an excuse and have a lazy spirit making excuse why we cant get baptize. its like far left liberals thats talks the talk but have no action.

So explain Jesus Christ own words : ”Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.“

Cory the Bible in Matthew 28:19; did not say for his disciples to go into all nations and make disciples. Kjv: it says to go and teach all nations ; if they accept the teachings of the apostles and do them they will automatically be disciples. Cory you need to read from the Bible; you are reading from what’s called the Bible, but it’s not a Bible.revelation 22:18 -19 ; you can’t even change one word of the true scriptures! And the book you’re reading from has different words, from the actual scriptures thus rendering it not the true scriptures!!

So for all the “water immersion is unto salvation” people here
How do you explain the thief on the cross
What do you say of people who literally cannot be water baptized?
It is either you must be for all or for none because god is no respect of persons he doesn’t show favoritism or partiality.
And as a bonus you are misinterpreting Matthew born of water is literal actual birth out of your mothers womb and born of spirit is salvation which is why nicademus said “ I can’t go back into my mothers womb”
Why do people make salvation so difficult? What can wash away my sin nothing but the blood of Jesus! What can make me whole again NOTHING but the blood of Jesus
What was an atonement prior to the Christ? A slain lamb! His blood on the alter.
Baptism in water is not unto salvation.

Jesus is the Lord. He can command anyone to be saved at any time! He did that with the thief! that does not mean His commands in the great commission are not commands to be followed! you are "eisegiting" your own interpretation into the scriptures! you set yourself up with those first stories of people who are ill, who are in jail etc... The Apostles followed Jesus's command by Baptizing those who were being saved! What must we do to be saved asked one. Peter told him to repent and!! be baptized act 2:38-41 Why would Peter an Apostle tell them this if it were not important? Rom 6:3-4.
I do believe in those situations that make it impossible to be baptized Gods mercy will reign. Even so, for those of us Who can obey what Jesus Himself said to do and the Apostles and believers followed up and obeyed His imperative to Baptize believers! Jesus Himself was Baptized to "fulfill all righteousness" We as believers are to follow in His footsteps! Brother, you are terribly incorrect! What convinces me is the Great commission! Jesus Himself is commanding us in every part of that commission to do exactly as He says. No part of Jesus's words is a suggestion!

Again Cory I have to disagree with you. Baptism is a command from God. Besides which is more important to do what Jesus did which was he did get baptized not for the same reason as the rest of us but John did baptize Jesus. I rather not listen to a mere man telling me that water baptism is not necessary. Baptism is necessary to wash away sin. Sins that has to be forgiven by God. Jesus commanded the Apostles in Matthew 28:10, 20 to go out and and teach all nations and baptize in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 confirms that water baptism is very necessay.

Acts 8 ... and Evangelist Phillip and Eunuch
Acts 10 Apostle Peter said Can any man forbid water?
Acts 9 and 22 especially Apostle Paul his testimony he was to why wait arise be baptized for the remission of sins calling on the name of the Lord
Yes GOD knows those who are in particular situations like being locked up ect ...Apostle doctrine GOD Bless

Your analysis of these baptism passages is weighed in the balances and found wanting. Acts 2: 38 does not say "remission of your sins": check a KJV/interlinear. How do you know the thief on the cross was not ever baptized? Answer: you don't, just as I don't. If you think you do, give the passage. The thief on the cross was pronounced a saved man under the Old Covenant. You honestly sound more like a Baptist than a Christian.

What?????? How do we know he wasn’t water baptized? lol are you serious?
Oh I’m sure the guards took him down and let him get in the sea or perhaps they poured water in his head? You’re implying the lord left this unavoidable point out of the text! Really??
To counter your ridiculous argument; how could Jesus tell him today you will be with me in paradise in response to his confession of the messiah??!!
Give yourself a break he obviously wasn’t baptized which means you don’t need to be unto salvation.

NO NO wrong sir we see VERY clearly that Jesus was speaking ONLY to his disciples to carry on the work of establishing His church ! Only they were to recieve the baptizm of the Holy Spirit with it"s miraculous gifts O.K ? But when the last Apostle died so did the gifts they recieved of the Holy Spirit and cannot be applied to believers after that Water baptizm is NOT a work, but an act of OBEDIENCE , in order to recieve the remission of ones sins after having REPENTED !! Acts 2 38, 22 16 1Pet 3 21 Please STOP teaching this heresy and telling unbaptized people that they will be saved without REPENTING and getting Baptized because they will end up in Hell thnks to you !
