officers, certain specific job details such as liason and certain entertainers get their own rooms. You MAY get lucky if the ship is short staffed and could wind up with your own room for a finite period of time, but otherwise, no, you cannot request your own room.
I've been on a couple cruises with carnival cruise lines and they have this "behind the scenes" thing that's like $60 per person and it basically takes you on a tour of like the whole crew places that passengers don't get to go (food coolers, laundry room, how they fold sheets, crew outdoor and indoor break rooms, they also hand out things that say house many pounds of food are on board and all that)
The crew on the big freighters has much better accomodation. They have more than enough space for individual cabins for each crew member, with each having its own bathroom / shower.
Same here....Now I pity my boyfriend who's working on a cruise ship. He deserves a better room. I will make his vacation the best ever soon as he arrives home.
Ppl say this place is small and cluster In reality many ppl live like this This place is small but it has everything you need to live Personally I love pod hotel styles So I really don't mind living in small places And this place is really dope
does the cruise line give you grief for shooting these videos cause I'm sure they don't want the public to see how the crew lives thank you for showing us the other side
+Stanley Macneill they haven't said anything but I never disclose who I work with :) Some lines have youtube videos that show the same areas so I doubt they mind- so long as it's not a zone that poses a security threat
This looks fantastic to what I had in the US Navy. There were six of us in 'packs' and we had a locker and a coffin bunk (you could lift it up and put shit in it) In my particular berthing, I lived with 120 other full grown males. I was on an aircraft carrier.
Whenever someone gets luxury, you have to remember that anywhere from 5 to 25 people are suffering for the sake of providing that luxury. A King lives a glamorous life, only because his subjects suffer to provide it for him.
Hold on now..think about it.. I bet you the crew works very long hours...it's not a 8 to 5 job. They probably dont spend long amounts of time in their cabin..dont need a big cabin if they are going to sleep most of the time. They are not on a cruise.. the paying passengers are. also I would imagine they assign cabins based on work shifts...dont put two day shift people together..put a day shift and evening shift together...one works the other is off...more privacy.
That’s not always the case through they should assign roommates that way, I’ve worked on ships and steamboats where both employees have assigned rooms and their both scheduled to work mornings, so we’re on top of each other trying to hurry and get ready for work🤦🏽♀️😂
I wanted to work on a cruise so badly! Then I went to Bahamas, I only spend two night on the cruise and both nights I had panic attacks, I would go to sleep and wake up in the middle of the night dreaming that I was drowning inside that little windowless cabin. Never more!
I also work as a seafarer . . this space is quite reasonable for us. :) there are some more amenities for crews inside the ship . :) own bar, gaming room, dining room, library and computer room . . :)
Those bunk took me back to my Navy days. These ships should consider similar arrangements as far as bunks. We could lift them for more storage underneath.
I'm fine with the small space, the only problem for me is that the room is (obviously) windowless and deep into the boat which makes it feel far more claustrophobic.
@@MichelleTimrox that's an interesting point I hadn't thought about - that could certainly help folks a lot. I still stand by the claustrophobia though 😝

I worked for NCL in the 80s. The ship I worked on did a split week at 3 day cruise and 4 day cruise out of Miami to the Bahamas. We got a lot of singles. So on the first night our job required us to show up to a mixer and to drink and mix and chat with any single women. I kid u not. But I really wasn't a big drinker, so I might I've had just one drink for the hour or so. All cruise ships run on alcohol. There was a lot of fucking and sucking that went on. 90% of the single women were looking to get laid. One thing I found out about women living 15 years and the Caribbean and working on cruise ships was that they are seriously into casual sex as long as it's out of their hometown and preferably out of the country. It's perfect for them. They don't have anybody come sniffing around for more puss afterwards... And upsetting their boyfriend's or husbands in the process. LOL. I am not kidding. I am dead serious.
Now you need to invest in a Fart Machine. I gave one to a Panamanian crew member when I cruised the Norwegian Sun a few years back. He thanked me and said that since he and his roommates liked to prank each other, he knew exactly what he was going to do with it.
The crew cabins on these luxury cruisers are just like standard internal passenger cabins on Mediterranean crossing ferries. I've traveled many times that way and I like it. By the way the interior cabins sure don't have windows but there is much less roll.
Yeah, but you only stay on such a ferry for a maximum of two nights as a passenger, you won't have to share and live with a stranger in such a place for up to six months.
That's got to be worse than a dorm room, except you have your own bathroom that you share with one person. Either way, I've had dorm rooms bigger than this. I mean if it was just one person, that would probably be fine, but for two people, this would be too small IMO.

Do you have vacuum your own carpet, or is that done specialized crew members who come around with a vacuum cleaner? Also, do you wash your own towels and sheets, or are they exchanged for clean ones at a central laundry?
Do any of the crew cabins have portholes? A ship I worked on had two and it was a huge cabin. But it was a freighter ship, so I would guess just more room in general. Do cabin sizes very ship to ship?
Les Wilkinson big time variance from ship to ship. it also depends on your position sometimes. as activity host I had this room, but then on a newer ship my roommate and I had side by side twin beds and a port hole. then I was back to this room again. ya get what you get- but USUALLY port holes are reserved for managers etc
Most work for 6 months (no days off), then have 2 full months off at home as a reward/break. The amount you'll be on the ship depends on your job. Crew have less time off as do Senior Officers (because they have a lot to do/ a lot they are responsible for). Staff usually have the better bargain. In casino or shop jobs, the facilities must close when the ship is in port- so they can't work! Entertainers- other than practices, just have their shows in busy periods (aka NOT when everyone is off the ship), so they can relax more as well..That sort of thing. Les Wilkinson not really no- people try because they like the itinerary on one more than the others ( ships going to dubaI etc)- but they'll place you where the need is. when you submit with a hiring partner what you can do is tell them which cruise LINE youre most interested in though- and they can look for vacancies with-at least- a certain brand
Well I wanted to work on a ship but I don't even think I could fit on that bed since Im 6 feet tall. Wow. I mean you did say you work on a 14-year old ship, so it might be different on others, but wow is hat small!
+Chelsea Wright this room is for pretty much everyone on my line- unless you're an officer/manager of some sort. They get a bit prettier the newer the ship.
Hey, Michelle! How's it going? I hope you read this. I'll be a staff member soon, yay! I noticed you have blow dryers in the cabin and was wondering if that's really allowed or if it depends on the ship, because a girl I know told me that she got in trouble for bringing one of those with her on her first contract. I'm worried because I can't live without mine. Cheers!
+Isadora Melo it may depend on the ship. Our room had a blow dryer and two straighteners- never an issue :) just be sure you have an adaptor incase the plugs are different so you can actually use it :)
Hi Michelle. I am working on a cargo ship. I think my captain would suspend my shore leave if he weekly inspected our cabin like yours. Normally our captain would not allow us to put anything on the table during his inspection. Well, I understand you have a tiny little cabin with 2 crew members. You would not have enough space to store all your staff. Does it any cabin inspection onboard your ship? Who would incharge of the cabin inspection?
Joe Catone I also have been working on hospitality my whole life and I'll give you an advise... don't! Just, forget about it. 20 years ago, maybe, but now?! It's not worth anymore. Hours, pay, conditions... no way!
The crew does :) Some ships you do your own laundry and some you drop it off but pay $1 per load. You clean your own room and it gets inspected periodically (vacuums, supplies etc are available to be picked up and used). The exception is senior officers- their laundry is picked up from their room and dropped back off when washed. Their rooms are cleaned by room stewards.
Idk what everyone is getting so butthurt about. That's more than enough room for me. That mini fridge is a bit small for two people but otherwise there is plenty of room. Though I will admit it would probably suck to live in that room with someone who is a messy person with too much shit

Les Wilkinson not really no- people try because they like the itinerary on one more than the others ( ships going to dubaI etc)- but they'll place you where the need is. when you submit with a hiring partner what you can do is tell them which cruise LINE youre most interested in though- and they can look for vacancies with-at least- a certain brand
omg, I had to stop watching this because I was getting sea sick from the jerky camera or maybe it was a rough day out there on the water.
What makes you stay there? I think it’s better to work on land
Well I wanted to work on a ship but I don't even think I could fit on that bed since Im 6 feet tall. Wow. I mean you did say you work on a 14-year old ship, so it might be different on others, but wow is hat small!
Is a standard room usually for cleaners or people who work in the kitchen or trainers?
+Chelsea Wright this room is for pretty much everyone on my line- unless you're an officer/manager of some sort. They get a bit prettier the newer the ship.
Do they still have the crew members walk the plank? And I have also heard rumors of the Black Pearl being spotted out at sea.
Hi. I will be working on a cruise ship soon. And itll be my first time. Do rooms have ac and do they have heater on showers? 😅
Yes and yes
HOLY SHIP!!!Thanks dudess!
Hey Michell what’s up!? :) Love your videos! What’s the bed you like the most, the top one or the bottom one?!! And why?? :))
Do you know if this true for a solo musician?
Most lines give them their own room
sure beats a 6 foot coffin locker in a 50 man berthing :)
This is so interesting!! Thanks for sharing :-)
Is there a day off working in the cruise ship
No. Only hours
What size bedding would you need if you wanted to bring your own bedding?
twin :)
I am looking into working on a cruise ship. Any advice? I have been in hospitality my whole life.
Joe Catone I also have been working on hospitality my whole life and I'll give you an advise... don't!
Just, forget about it. 20 years ago, maybe, but now?! It's not worth anymore. Hours, pay, conditions... no way!
couldn't do that at my old age that's a young man's game
I would say ,this is a clean room
Do you clean your own cabin? If the ship crew cleans it how often do you get service?
Who cleans the crew quarters, their laundry, etc.?
Also, are their any single cabins for any of the crew, or are they all doubles?
The crew does :) Some ships you do your own laundry and some you drop it off but pay $1 per load. You clean your own room and it gets inspected periodically (vacuums, supplies etc are available to be picked up and used). The exception is senior officers- their laundry is picked up from their room and dropped back off when washed. Their rooms are cleaned by room stewards.
Michelle Tim
Thanx for the info. It makes sense, and confirms what was in my mind.
Idk what everyone is getting so butthurt about. That's more than enough room for me. That mini fridge is a bit small for two people but otherwise there is plenty of room. Though I will admit it would probably suck to live in that room with someone who is a messy person with too much shit
