Hi Lucy, I was on the MV island Princess in 2012 as staff photographer - in our cabin the top bunk was the bunk to get - it had loads of room and you could sit up on it. So I had the bottom bunk for the first half of my contract then moved to the top bunk for the second half.
I laughed when you mentioned bringing your own hangars. Even though we are passengers and not crew, my wife makes me pack a bunch of plastic hangars so she can hang all the clothes she brings.
I've just started watching you and all your videos are so addicting!! I didn't even want to be a crew member, I was just interested because I love cruising, but now I want to be a crew member!! Haha 😄
Same here. My daughter and I just love to hear her talk ... wish she would tell funny stories about each port she stopped at. And tips for where to get yummy food at each port.
I enjoy these videos even though I never have been on a cruise and have no plans to work on a cruise ship. I used to watch The Love Boat when I was younger. 😆
I usually had bunk beds but most of the time I had a steward in training clean my cabin. The biggest advantage was the phone could make international calls for a$10 one hour phone card
Big time cruiser and completely enjoy your video. I am much too old to serve on a cruise ship but really enjoy hearing your experiences. One thing I thought I'd point out to you and your viewers. Today, nothing on a cruise ship is dumped into the ocean. Certainly no trash, food waste (unless treated) and certainly no water. All water is treated on board ship and is recirculated and/or stored for disposal upon arriving in port. I am sure your cleaning products are regulated so as not to counter the various water treatment and sewage treatment processes that are on board. Happy cruising!
Hi! Great tip with magnets for shower curtain. Those really drives me crazy :D And I take two soft bags in case my roomie has two hard cases. You can than easily store then under the bed :)
If you like your freedom and human rights and you want to live like a modern human being, do not accept a job on board...They have very weird hierarchy where only officers have single cabins....dine with guests etc. If your position do not include stripes, do not accept because this is a trap...They are like a kingdom with kings and slaves.
I never used the cleaning products that the ship provide, I am a mentaly ill when it comes to cleaning, so I was used to by the same products that I use at home (when the ship is doing my country itinerary), I also bring a broom to the ship, to sweep the cabin carpet every week and a dustpan. In the toilet I put that thing that oozes a good smell whenever you flush the toilet (I don't know the name in english).
As a muso we arrived and left the ship altogether, so no claiming of territory in the cabin needed. The cabin steward was in nearly every day, we came to an arrangement about tipping, maybe a dollar a day each if he didnt really have to do anything, just empty the bin or whatever. It was always customary for the disembarking trio to leave the cabin clean and tidy for the new joiners, with bedsheets removed and clean ones fetched etc. One contract me and the drummer arrived onboard, got in the cabin and it was disgraceful - used cans and bottles everywhere, dirty bedsheets in the corner, rubbish everywhere, ashtrays full etc. The previous band hadnt cleaned it or anything, just left it after an obvious last night party. So we had to do it all ourselves, however.... the whole place was scattered all over with loads of coins - pound coins, 50pees, American money, foreign money, all sorts of loose change from the UK and all over! all over the cabin, every corner like they had just scooped up handfuls and chucked it about. We picked it all up, there was about 30 or 40 quid. + all the foreign shrapnel...they must hve felt guilty about the mess they left in a hurry to get off the ship :-) . Dont know if they ever came back.
Good news on getting the spare change after the previous guys didn’t clean it for you! Always an unwritten rule that you leave the cabin ready for your relief. Even as Capt ( as I was on an oil tanker) we always stripped and made the bed for our relief, even though I had a cabin steward! Just common courtesy to a fellow professional
A phone card is a good idea. Write letters and on the the back write like 'open this when you miss home' or 'open this when you want to laugh'... Funky luggage tags, a disposable camera and a scrapbook to stick the pictures in. X
You can bring your own, but they take up a lot of room in the suitcase. Try getting more than 2 from housekeeeping, it's more than their jobs worth :-) .
is there any job roles where you get your own cabin as I am looking at becoming a musician on board also if I was a musician in a duo, would the duo share a cabin ?
Duo would normally share, they are usually husband and wife acts. It is possible to get your own cabin as a muso, Oriana did individual cabins when I was on there, but 9 times out of 10 no. Unless you've got a good agent or well known and go on as cabaret, passenger status (like Jayne MacDonald) or supernumerary, then you wouldnt have to do crew drills either, but you would have to be well known and respected by the company, they wouldnt give you it just starting out without a name or TV recognition whatever. Bear in mind, musicians on a ship need a massive amount of material, you cannot get by with just a couple of good 45s and an acoustic set - you need about 5x45mins of all different material per day, for maybe one or two weeks without repeating yourself. Yes, I know. I knew a Hungarian piano player had to do 8 spots a day on P&O Cruises. When he complained about it, the assistant Cruise director said, well, you know where the gangplank is.
I have an overactive bladder. Maybe that’s TMI lol. But I usually switch with people on planes so I can have the aisle seat. Otherwise I will constantly be waking someone up, whether it’s to get out of the middle or window seat on a plane, or by getting up and down a bunk bed a bunch of times throughout the night. Would this be something I try to just ask my roomie or should I talk to the hiring manager /HR OMGGG this is so embarrassing
You don't 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we would just leave the room so the other couple could have some alone time or some people would just accept the other person partner staying over!!! Crew life is WILD it's basically like Uni life!!!
ripping your bunkmates head off due to snoring is frowned upon and most juries wont accept "justifiable homicide" defence you have 2 choices ear plugs or acceptance ( worse is Both of you snore and keep waking each other up) so be careful you might wake up with someone trying to kill you (1st)😃😮💨😮💨😮💨
Whilst I've never been on a cruise (I don't think I can afford to!), I always enjoy watching your informative and entertaining videos! #cruisingascrew

Hi Lucy, is there airconditioning in the cabins?? Going to the most exotic and warm places?! There must be airco right??
Of course, in each cabin) Crew cabins are underwater and without windows
@@EssentialSpb underwater? Ow my God🤣🤦🏻♀️. And staff members??

Hi Lucy, thank you for the information, is it okay for a crew to carry a laptop to a ship?

You should see berthing in a navy ship

Thank you for your videos Lucy! Question: What bed size should I get the fitted bed sheets?
A small single. Just type small single into google and they will come up. X
Thank you for all the good information!!
Could you please some photos of actual cabin.
Where in the UK is your home? Or more to the point, which regional dialect is yours?
Embarcarei em breve.
From a crew members point of view, what would be most appreciated as a gift for a crew steward, I was thinking phone card but what kind.

I think this is smth you can sort out with your roomie
Do the have safes in your cabin to put away your passport and critical documents for security?
The ship takes them from you and gives you a magnetic stripe card.
Amazing video. I laughed so much 🤣
So helpful! X
Are you allowed to mix after work with the paying passenger
Eh. In the navy you needed to get out of your bunk just to roll over. 😂
I am 189cm tall or 6ft2 roughly.. will i have a problem stretching out on the beds?????
Beds are 6'3" she said in another comment.
Why there is no wifi on cruise?
sorry, im no trying tobe unrespectful but youre gorgeous
What if you get into a relationship with another crew member. if you are sharing a cabin with someone, how do you get private time together?

What is the internal distance in inches for top bunk bed.
What is the most unique, interesting or unusual cruise you’ve worked.
Hi! Do you have any bar crew friends that you could do interview with? I feel like there is no vids like this on the whole youtube :D
Can you get air fresheners?
Yes you can x
Wich company you work?
How long after a seatime the company calls for rejoining
What is impact of curiste ship
How long are the beds on a cruise ship? I am interested in working and I am 6'3, would it be long enough for how tall i am?
190 cm which is 6'3 so it would be a squeeze.
Does the ship have a height requirement???
YOU NEED TO GET A LOT OF CONDOMS FIRST OF ALL !
It’s kind of like sharing a prison cell.
You take to much
