    We've owned several competitor EVs and while our experience may be different than many, Tesla is really coming in strong. The Tesla app is way ahead of anything other EV manufacturers are doing. Being able to drive wherever you like with reliable, quick and easily accessible public DC fast charging coupled with easy home charging makes Tesla vehicles a home run.

    I just picked up a ‘24 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD over the weekend. I don’t road trip much, so home charging (which Hyundai was throwing in, including installation) should be good for me 99% of the time. I got mine a little under MSRP. But, I know the EA free charging could definitely be a challenge when I do need it.

    Can tell he was really rooting for the Ioniq 5 and doesn't like how ubiquitous (popular) the Model Y has become. The Limited is the only trim species close to a Model Y. Good luck getting one anywhere near the price of a similar Model Y, especially after dealer markups and tax rebates.

    I am comparison shopping the Ioniq 5, Model Y, and Volvo XC40 Recharge. I think I will be going with the Model Y due to the Supercharger network. That, and the two Hyundai dealers I visited were so poorly run and the salespeople just left a bad impression on me. The XC40's backseat and rear cargo area were a joke, so that went out quickly.

      Good point. This is something Tesla needs to catch up on. I wouldn't be surprised if they add it to the Juniper version since they have it in the Cybertruck. I guess Tesla didn't want to have it compete with their batteries. One of the reasons I've held off on getting backup batteries, other than cost is I'm planning on eventually getting an I5, which I think will be adequate in an emergency. I keep looking at Tesla due to price mostly, but it has too many deal breaker issues for me. One of them is V2L.

    I wanted the Ioniq but ended up with Y. Hyundai was marking up cars like nobody's business, meanwhile Tesla dropped prices and no haggling. I was focused on having something different, but at the end of the day I prefer the sportier ride of the Y, the charging network, constant OTA updates that improve the car, the incredible performance, quiet cabin, amazing sound system and incredible route planning software. Also the Y's got darker roofs in 2021-ish that cuts 99% of UV radiation, and a new "comfort suspension" was introduced late 2022 that was likely not in the test car. I applaud Hyundai for creating a nice car, but after 1 year of ownership I'm fully in love with our Y.

    reasons i chose the MYLR over the Ioniq5 Limited (when i shopped): 1. dealer markup (every dealer wanted at least $1500 on top of the msrp) and the price of the MYLR was actually cheaper than the Ioniq5 Limited's msrp. 2. Cargo capacity is a LOT better in the Y. 3. I actually like the simplicity of the interior and lack of buttons. 4 (related to #3) i love the tech and ability to control features with the excellent Tesla App and the integration with Supercharging on trips.
    a side note: the rear doors on the Ioniq5 are HUGE (bad for those with kids old enough to get in and out themselves), no real frunk on the Ioniq5, and battery tech.

    Tesla's "minimalist" design just screams "we made this as cheap as we could then called it 'minimalist' to sound trendy." Why does it scream that? Because that's exactly what happened. It's not a master class in design, it's a master class in cost-cutting then hyping it up as something positive.

    • @QMaverick1
      @QMaverick1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @bobhope3940 lol, that's j ust marketing. They did it that way to save cost. The interiors of the 3 and Y are the same to cut cost. That ALSO makes manufacturing efficient, but it wasn't to pass the savings on to you. They had the highest margins in the industry until their sales started to dip. Now they're about on par with other auto manufacturers. That means, even with the massive, recent price cuts, they're STILL making around 8% profit per car. Which means, previously, they were using that "efficiency" to make bank.if

    • @QMaverick1
      @QMaverick1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jpslaym0936 lol, they compare this car (and against) to a BMW M3. Not exactly "economy." I'm not saying it's a BAD thing to cut cost or anything (though, in this case, Tesla used it to make unprecedented margins for a while), but it's what they did. It's not magic, just business. I personally don't like it because the interiors kinda suck, but that's my preference.

    This is MT trying to justify their pick for car of the year. I'm not saying the hyundia isn't good. I would agree with them completely if it was based on stat's. This is based on preferences and false biases. If you like the 8 bit graphic styling and button rich interior, than this is the car you will probably gravitate to. If you like a minimalist yet highly usable interior, better pricing( full tax incentive) and performance, than the model y is your car. Also the charging network is way better with tesla. If I was going to buy an ev other than tesla , I would choose a Kia ev6 gt , Ford mach e or even the hyundia ionic 6.
    Again I'm not saying this car is bad. It comes down to what the buyer wants for there money, and that is why the model y is the best selling CAR in the world this year.

    Side note: I think public charging in this country only sucks depending on what region you live in. I've driven from Ohio to Florida and back in my Mach-E with nary a problem. I've driven to NJ and back, Chicago and back, and it all went smoothly.
    In Cali, where you've got the oldest public charging network, I think it's probably hot garbage. The early stations were just plain bad, and you've got the oldest of the old out there. I'm only pointing this out because everyone seems to make this blanket statement of "public charging is bad," but I think it's now more nuanced than that. EVGO and EA both have newer gen stations that are pretty common (at least over here), and their uptime has been quite good in my experience. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    Side side note: the interior of every EV in this class is better than the Model Y's. :-) The only place it ever wins is in storage (which is, admittedly, quite impressive).

    I own both, a 2023 Model Y Long Range and 2023 Ioniq 5. Yes, the Ioniq 5 is more tuned for comfort, but all in all, the Model Y is the superior car, mainly because I don't have to deal with a Stealership, and secondly, amazing Tesla supercharger network. Also, the glass roof 100 percent blocks the sun, even on 100 degree F days. Not an issue at all

    It’s people like this that should not be doing reviews. I have the model
    3 performance and it’s very similar to the Y model. He didn’t mention that the IIHS tested the model 3 along with every other car out there including Volvo, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, VW, Honda, Toyota, Nissan and so on. The Model 3 was the safest car in the world that they have ever tested and the Model Y was not too far behind being so similar. Did he mention safety? No!! I wonder if anyone buying a car puts their families safety first before the buttons or the looks? He said that he doesn’t like the sunroof of the Tesla. There is always a solution to everything. You can buy 3M or other top notch tinted windows for the car and it would run $1,000 for all the windows and the roof from front to back using LLumar or 3M which is better than any other normal tinting that’s available. Ok don’t want tinted windows?? They sell covers for the moonroof from Tesla or from 3rd party vendors on Amazon. See when someone comes up with a problem and says yeah I’d rather go buy a Hyundai because of a few girly things to complain about then you know you have a buyer that is looking for things that are on their wish list instead of looking at the overall experience. Hyundai could have the same amount of charging stations or more even than Tesla but Tesla cars are better built. Honda and Toyota have been on the market for the longest time and it’s guys like this that come along and think that Hyundai has caught up and they are actually better. The new G series from Hyundai it Genesis same thing, they build better cars than the BMW 750Li because Hyundai got their act straight and everyone should know Hyundai is the king of all cars no matter who the competition may be. Yes that was a joke. Hyundai can copy and then put a few comfort features to please your average Joe but look at how many Hyundais are on the road and compare it to say Tesla or Toyota, or Honda. Hyundai will never be the car company that people go to. Koreans are not going to beat the Germans, the Japanese nor Elon Musk, not now, not ever!!

    Model Y is one of the UGLIEST cars I have ever seen. Glad the reviewer agrees. It is a well-engineered UGLY car and I will NEVER buy an ugly car no matter how well-engineered it is.
