- I will compare the eminence copperhead 10 inch speaker against a stock fender speaker in in a Princeton reverb amp. I am using a vintage Princeton reverb but this test should help you no matter what amp you are using. I will be doing other reviews of Weber, Jensen and Celestion speakers in future videos. Lets find the best speaker for your Princeton.

Really nice that you looped to take the player out of the equation. Straight up I like the copperhead more. The Fender speaker was probably the better one back when it too was newer, but now it's just tired.
For sure. That’s speaker is as old as me!!! Pretty old lol
❤Excellent content! I got here looking for the sound of oxford and still left with a wave(Jobim) interpretation
Hahaah cheers!
1) Funk sound: Fender, 2) chord melody: Copperhead (the Fender speaker sounds good at the volume played, but it also sounds like it's running out of headroom), 3) amp overdrive: Fender, 4) pedal overdrive: Copperhead.
I think the Fender speaker has more character. If I were using my Princeton for recording or very quiet gigs only, I'd stick with the Fender. If your Princeton is your go-to amp and you're going to be gigging with it, then the headroom will be marginal at times, and you're likely to want a more efficient speaker.
Great observations and thanks for the input!!.. i appreciate it
Copperhead has very definite distinct clarity over the Fender cone ..call it dimensionality maybe …..
yeah i def agree with that statement
I felt like the fender had a more compressed sound overall - which was pleasing on some of the examples. to me, the copperhead had a more pronounced bass and sounded darker at lower gain levels but retained clarity when pushed with gain the fender exhibits a fuzzier tone that begins to 'flub' when pushed.
Good observations all around. Thanks for sharing
Frank I forgot to mention keep that a on a short leash 8 ohm load particle board cabinet all can be corrected Frank 8 ohm load thanks
Thanks for the info
From here, there were no points where the Fender speaker sounded warmer. The Eminence sounded like the response is more consistent, with some gradual (no doubt intentional) rolloff at the top. The Fender sounded like there were more dips and peaks in the response, with the top end sounding rather pronounced and pinched. This also does not accommodate the high end from overdriven sounds gracefully.
Nice demo, cause many players know the Fender models as a reference point.
Great observations. It can be hard to pick out the differences on TH-cam. Thanks for sharing
The Copperhead reminds me of a Vox roundy jangly tighter tone but that Fender speaker has more detail and a more colourfull tone, both excellent and would keep the Fender and put the Emmi in 1x12" cab as an alternative. I am biased towards those budget Fender blue label speakers because my ears are so used to their sound.
It funny that you would say that about the stock fender speaker. I am actually about to do a new video today! about the blue oxford speaker and how it unfairly gets a bad rap in my opinion
Very good playing and well done vid. Thanks Ive got the Ragin Cajun in my Champ II but looking for something different for my Rivera Super Champ
Thanks man. I’m still new at doing these types of vids so I appreciate the encouragement. U like the ragin?
@@FrankPersico Yes its very good but lacks a bit of clarity, compared to the best speaker make imo the G12h Heritage 55hz, but obviously that doesnt fit without a new cab at least for a Champ that comes with a 10"
@@shckltnebay ahhh ok. Makes sense.
The stock speaker did seem to be a bit darker, although still very similar. But can you be sure the looper doesn’t present it with a slightly different signal from your live playing? (I’ve never used a looper before.)
Yeah I know what you mean about the looper. I often wonder if it sounds different or if it’s in my mind. Lol
Beautiful playing Frank 👍🏻👍🏻 What were the two jazz tunes you played?
Thanks so much. It was “New York state of mind” followed by “wave”
My 76 Princeton reverb has a Rolla speaker with fender ID far different from Oxford right on
I do like the Oxfords in my vibrolux. They sound very clean and sweet when that’s the sound you want. I just don’t like how they sound when pushed. That’s why it’s great to have a few diff amps and speaker configurations
Very nice playing sir...
Thanks so much
10in JBL d110 f what's popular enjoy
Oooh I’d like to hear that. Do you have any vids?
Much more headroom through the copperhead
Totally. Fender speakers are nice but they give up sooner
@@FrankPersico Really? WOW Mine are shit
@@shckltnebay maybe it’s possible that yours had a rough life before you got the amp? These just happen to sound good to me. Go figure
