I use that pico scope at work for diagnosing power supply issues for hpcr diesel computers. The current software is every bit as good as what snapon offers in the vantage. The ability to capture your waveform is great for sending in for warranty claims. These computers shut down if they lose power for one millisecond and when you have power losses of just slightly over that time it causes all sorts of regen and drivability problems. Stuff so short even a Fluke can’t catch. The Pico is fantastic.
Great info, thanks for making a video on entry level scopes for non professionals. It gives a great starting point to be able to learn how to use them. 👍
This was an interesting video, I had a 1008c a few years ago, Purley because of its price. I had a Nissan X trail that wouldn't start, I needed a scope to sync a fuel injector with the relative compression, it proved the injectors were firing at the wrong time. That car had previously been around lots of other garages and an auto electrician. I was pleased with the scope, but eventually wanted something better, I made the mistake of buying a hantek 6204be that was not much different. Now I have finally ordered a picoscope, from what I have seen, it's ability to take a Picket fence image and zoom in to a single event, is something hantek can't do. Great video mate, I've been looking forward to this.
Mechanic Matt It was your early videos that influenced my decision to buy the 1008C. Even though I already had the 2204A. The 8 channels appealed to me at that price point. I owe you a debt of gratitude. Between you and Dave (and others) I have learned a great deal. So thank you Matt and Cheers
Thanks, I think we all are learning all the time from our own experiences, and because we share videos we all learn together. If that makes sense. I just didn't want people to get the slightly more expensive hantek when there is almost no difference to the cheaper one. Thanks Ian
"the venerable 1008c..." describes it well. It's been the beginner scope for many. Sure, they all progress to more expensive scopes later but it's where they got their start.
A bit late into the conversation. 45 years in the auto industry and looking at scopes now. You show a Pico Scope that is not normally used in the auto industry. I have been looking at their packages and wonder if it would be better buying into the package deal or learning with this basic scope and hoping I get the right attenuation and probes? The price difference looks like a couple hundred once all probes and accessories are bought. A scope like a micrometer if not used properly becomes worthless.
Things have moved on quite a bit since this video. There’s a lot of pretty decent scopes on the market for very reasonable money. Thx for watching. 🍀👍🍻

I was leaning towards the pico but was considering the Hantek because of it being 8 channeland thinking it might be handy if I get on well with scopes however I think I'll be going for the pico because if I do get on well enough to need 8 channels I'll probably want a more capable scope.

If your getting a scope you are giing to do this to make money and help with your diagnostic skills but i am lookimg to step up my game to get a scope but first i made sure i had a good base first. Thanks for taking the time and posting your video, I too have owned the Hantech for many years and think its a great budget scope and have been considering buying the budget Peco 2204a, do you think its worth it? The software maybe is better? also what version of Hantech software are you using in this video? Thanks
Hi....My Hantek 1008 runs on version 1.0.30. As far as the Pico 2204a is concerned the S/W (and H/W) is far better. If the limitation of only 2 channels is not an issue for you it’s a great scope. (cost of >2 channels is ridiculous IMO) If you have an android tablet check out “H Scope” app...cheap and you might dig it 👍 Cheers
great video, thanks for sharing! would you please share the amp clamp/probe make and model you used for the tests? I find great selection of clamps on Aliexpress but they are all only measuring AC current.
Thx for subscribing. Fuse loops can be purchased on line pretty cheap. Search fuse buddy...they are expensive but some “copies” are quite reasonable. Mine came from Princess Auto (Canada’s Harbour Freight). Cheers
What is the difference between Hantek 1008A, 1008B, 1008C? Only 1008A available now. Also why did you use CC65? Why not CC650? What's the upgrade version of Hantek 1008 in the Hantek family? Sorry too many questions. Thanks for the help!
I dont think there is any real difference in the A,B,C. Just the accessories that came in the kit. The CC65 is better suited for much lower current ranges. I don't believe Hantek has a new model low cost 8 channel scope, but they do produce some decent 4 channel versions ~$300. Cheers and thx for watching 👍
Hello. For automotive applications a couple of 20:1 attenuators are useful safeguards (HT201). More practical coax cables BNC/4mm are handy (HT30A). A set of back probes are useful. And a current clamp (CC-65) is super useful when your budget allows. Hantek Part numbers are provided (reasonable quality/price) but they can be had from many other sources. Cheers P.S: You Will of course need to download the applicable software to your laptop.
