    Enrique, thanks for your training. I appreciate the info and how you present it. I have little experience in electronic devices and oscilloscopes but am willing to learn enough to troubleshoot car issues.
    Most affordable scopes are 2 channel. How often have you used more than 2 channels in troubleshooting ignition issues and alike and where in particular did you need 3 or more channels?
    The PicoScope 2204A (2 channel) for around $140 gets my foot in the door to a very good scope and very good software. However, the Hantek 1008C may be more appropriate given its 8 channels. Your thoughts?
    Thx!

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Generally 2 channels are enough. There are situations where you may want to look at more signals simultaneously but that would only be for convenience not necessity. As an example, a current and voltage waveform for a particular ignition coil will only need two channels, but if you wanted to also look at the controlling signal from the engine computer you would need a third channel. This has happened in some situations for me but it is not the norm. If you are just getting started and are intrigued about the possibilities of oscilloscopes, then I recommend the Pico. Not only is the software better with the Pico, the hardware is more robust and of better quality. Hope this helps. Any other questions feel free to ask.

      I do own a PICO and some other scopes and there is no doubt that the Hantek interface is the worst out there, but it is still usable. For a hobbyist or a tinkerer who just wants to see a signal and not spend a whole lot, the Hantek has a lot to offer.

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A current clamp is a must. The Hantek CC-65 will check low current parts such as injectors, ignition coils, blower motors and the like. The Hantek CC-650 is for higher current items such as starter motors. A 10x probe or a 20:1 attenuator will allow you to check items with high voltage spikes such as ignition coil primary coils and even inductive loads such as fuel injector waveforms which can have voltage spikes up to 100 volts.

    • @sailorbob74133
      @sailorbob74133 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So a kit like this www.aliexpress.com/item/Hantek-1008C-Automotive-Oscilloscope-USB-8-Channels-PC-Based-Digital-Multimeter-Osciloscopio-Logic-Analyzer-Diagnostic-tool/32645463134.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.EdSTKD plus and attenuator and the two clamps should be all I'll need? Do they have a 100 amp clamp? I'm mostly looking at 2L and smaller 4 bangers and they usually don't pull more than about 75 amps during cranking from what I've seen.

But you have shown me so far it works well. Ive been on the fence about that for along time. Im old school and i still beleive that you get what you pay for. • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you need something that simply works consistently and will not frustrate you, DO NOT buy the Hantek. I always tell people that the Hantek is a scope that you buy if you do not know if an oscilloscope is a tool that you will need. The Hantek is a stepping stone. From there you decide if this route is right for you. It seems that you are looking for a capable scope. If you need something mobile with a PC I recommend a used Pico off eBay.

      If you need something for a desktop workstation, a used Tektronix, Agilent or Rigol bench scope from eBay will work as well.

    which hantek device do you use? i would like to have a 6052be, but i don't know if it is worth it.
    What do you think?

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not know enough about the 6052be to make an informed opinion, but I use the Hantek 1008 for light projects and experiments. If I want to do some serious analysis or work, I use my PicoScope.
      I think it is best to try to figure out what you want a scope for and purchase something that is tailored to that. To be perfectly honest Hantek products are not the best. They are "starter" scopes where you can invest a relatively small amount of money to see if an oscilloscope is the right tool for you. Once that determination has been made you can move on to a more well known brand of scopes if the work that you deems it necessary.
      If you have questions about specific attributes of a scope, meaning you do not understand what the ratings or capabilities of a specific scope mean, let me know and I will try to help. Thank you for your question and thanks for watching!!!

  • @jago5300
    @jago5300 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been watching a few of these and find them interesting. I own six oscilloscopes now for my electronics. But an auto oscilloscope would help me down the road. The one thing I'm not sure about is to software, is it pre-installed or do you have to purchase software. But how much is the software

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The software is free, and will sometimes come with the oscilloscope on a disc. You can also go to the Hantek website and download the software. I have a video where you can go into my shared google drive to download the software and drivers and I explain how to install the software and drivers.
      If you own other scopes and want something with lots of functions DO NOT GET THIS SCOPE. Go for a PicoScope or something similar. You will only be frustrated by its glitches and its mediocre software. This scope is a cheap way to introduce yourself to the world of oscilloscopes to see if this type of tool is right for you.

    • @Enrique_Osorio

      I suggest getting a tablet that has a USB 3.0 port. The latest PicoScopes need a USB 3.0 connection USB 2.0 will NOT work. Also, make sure the processor on your tablet is up to the task. If it is a mobile processor and its quad core it should probably run at 2.0GHz or higher. If its a dual core then 2.5 GHz or higher is recommended. You can run it on slower processors but you may have some issues. I tried my pico on my older computer that I put a USB 3.0 card on and it did not have the response of my newer laptop. Also have had a blue screen with my hantek a few times :( strange..

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will not be able focus on TDC unless the voltage is significantly different than the rest of the signal. Using certain cam signals might help since they sometimes have a single voltage spike at TDC which you can trigger off of but other than that there is not much else you can do.

    good how does one differentiate between a square signal with positive and negative half cycle and one without on an oscilloscope

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is a positive and negative half cycle, meaning that the square wave goes below the 0 volt line the average DC voltage will be zero, which means that if you measure the DC voltage the voltage will be zero. Additionally the AC voltage will show the average AC voltage or the RMS depending on the type of multi meter you are using. If there is a DC offset, then it will be shown as a positive or negative voltage when measuring using the DC setting on a multi-meter.

  • @18DRS
    @18DRS 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One questions about measurement, what should I choose, to see a actual/"live" voltage on the channel?

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TLDR: Under 'Vertical Measurements' choose 'Mean' and set the time base to 20 ms/div. Longer explanation below.
      Remember what "live voltage" means in the context of a voltmeter. A voltmeter can not give live readings since the screen would have to update so quickly, the number would be a blur. Instead it gives something similar to an average over a period of time. This will differ depending on the multi-meter in question. On the Hantek, to get a reading similar to one that you would get on a multi-meter, you would choose the Vertical measurement 'Mean'.This will give you the average of the voltage over the chosen time base times the width of the screen. If the time base you choose is short it will update quickly and the opposite is true for a long time base. A good option is a time base of 20 ms/div (millisecond per division), this way you will get 5 updates a second. The reason you get 5 updates per second is that if each division represents 20 milliseconds, and if the screen is 10 divisions wide, the reading will update every 200 milliseconds.

    is they a way to graph frequency ,such as a digital MAF sensor

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not on this scope. The best you can do is use the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) which gives you a line that will peak at the frequency of the signal. If there is a frequency spike on a failing GM MAF you will see the peak of the line move smoothly toward the right and then will move to the far right and back to left where it was before. The chances that you will catch a small glitch is low so it is not the best tool for the job, but I thought I would mention it anyway. I have noticed that the scope picks up a lot of noise and the FFT function will show an erratic signal even when a pure sine wave is fed into it. Not the best feature of this scope.

    • @Enrique_Osorio

      I do not know why it lags on your computer. If you would like you can try to reinstall the software, that might work. As for your square wave problem, there are adjustments on some probes that help to mitigate that. Are you using the original Hantek probes. Have you tried other probes?

    how do you set up the voltage scale that would be on the left side of the scope to know what the waveform voltages are like on a pico or about any other scope

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer your question accurately could you clarify what you mean? I believe you are asking what voltage per division setting you use for a particular waveform. If that is your question then the scales that you would use would depend on what you are looking at. If you are looking at the waveform of an ignition coil primary then your scale would be 50 volts/division whereas if you are looking at the waveform of a digital camshaft position sensor, you may only need a scale of 2 volts/division.
      Some scopes do not use volts per division, rather they will have a setting for max and min voltage displayed. This means that you would be able to adjust the voltages displayed on the screen based on what is the maximum voltage you expect and what is the minimum voltage you expect.
      Hope this helps. If this is not the answer to your question please restate your question with specific information.

      There are dots that will let you reasonably read the voltage. You can also use a cursor which gives you the voltage difference between two points.
      The quality of the scope is OK. Its not the best and not the worst. I have used more expensive scopes that were not as good as the Hantek.
      You CAN NOT zoom in with this scope. It just does not work since if you use the zoom feature you do not get any higher quality data.

      I do not recommend the record feature. It does not work very well. If you want something that will record for a period of time that you can zoom into and look at the data, I recommend a different scope. This would not be the scope for you. I consider the Hantek 1008 a stepping stone. It is a scope that you would buy to see if an oscilloscope is a tool that you would use.

    Hello sir. do you know how to make interpolation works, I tried to do it but it's not let me to do it it's disabled.

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately interpolation is not available on this scope. If I had to guess, the reason it does not have it is to save on costs. Interpolation requires a lot of processing and I do not believe this scope is capable of that. Thank you for your question and thanks for watching!!!

      **COPY --> PASTE FROM OTHER COMMENT**
      If you need something that simply works consistently and will not frustrate you, DO NOT buy the Hantek. I always tell people that the Hantek is a scope that you buy if you do not know if an oscilloscope is a tool that you will need. The Hantek is a stepping stone. From there you decide if this route is right for you. It seems that you are looking for a capable scope. If you need something mobile with a PC I recommend a used Pico off eBay.

      If you need something for a desktop workstation, a used Tektronix, Agilent or Rigol bench scope from eBay will work as well.

      @Enrique_Osorio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not know. I do not think so but I will check and let you know. I usually use my PicoScope, or my schools Rigol scopes when analyzing digital signals. Its midterms week for me so it might be a few days before I get back to you. Thank you for your question and thanks for watching!!

      Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The Hantek 1008 does NOT have a way to view bus signals. Thank you for your question and thanks for watching!!

    How do you change the language because I have the Chinese language

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the language drop down menu has English grayed out, you probably have the incorrect drivers installed. Watch my video on installing the software and drivers.

      Go to the hantek folder. Find language and delete the chinese one.

    so far the only negative I hear about the hantek scope is that the provided leads are too short for engine work.

    • @Enrique_Osorio
      @Enrique_Osorio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with that, but I made it work until I was willing to buy new leads.

    I'm sure this is known by now, but... Actually the top of the rising edge would be the end of the square wave.

    • @Enrique_Osorio

      This is the Hantek 1008A. The only difference with the models are the accessories that come with them.

    How is it that Enrique has a function generator and an oscilloscope, yet is totally clueless about what one cycle is? For one cycle, he needs to mark the SAME LOCATION on consecutive waves! HELLOOOOOOO!!! The cursor should have been upper left corner to upper left corner! Also, Windows is pirated.
