EU-AU summit: Ghana's Akufo-Addo calls for 12-month transition in Mali • FRANCE 24 English

  • In a interview with FRANCE 24 at the EU-African Union summit in Brussels, #Ghana’s president Nana #AkufoAddo said the French-led troop withdrawal from #Mali required "new arrangements" in the regional fight against terrorism. Akufo-Addo, who is also the current chairman of West African bloc ECOWAS, demanded the departure of "foreign mercenaries" from the region and explained that negotiations are underway with the Malian junta on a timetable for elections. He called the junta's proposal of a four-year transition until civilian rule "clearly unacceptable" and said a 12-month transition period would be "an acceptable framework", although stressing that this was not official ECOWAS policy.

      On the contrary Mr Olivier, this matter is bigger than just the state of Mali. The security presence of France deters a lot of criminal and terror activities. If France just pack up and go just like that, without any proper transition measures, West Africa, would be open to all kinds of attacks. We look at the big picture to make decisions. Acting in hate and in haste only leads to more pain and regret. 🎙️🎤

    Excellent rebuttal Mr President. " we were all here to see what happened on January 6th in the United States ". Does that mean America is a failed state and has the contagion spread to Canada with the trucker protest and a state of emergency having to be implemented in Canada. Will Mexico be next to grapple with military rule. Just asking? . Notice how the interviewer brings his preconceptions into the discussion and tries to form a narrative of uncontrollable instability. I'm also very glad that the President pushed back on these naratives that would have ostensibly be a foundation to build a pretext for the necessity of foreign militaries to march into western Africa. The interviewer even tried to lay the ground work for intervention. Wow. Played his Trump card, " Russian mercenaries", expertly rebuffed. This age of Physiological warfare must not be allowed to manifest into actual warfare. It's like the script is clear, World powers fight each other in the African theater. Be very vigilant Africa!!!

What is really the force behind this. Is it only "protection" as they claimed or another point of interest because up till now majority Africans especially the youths are sick and tired or western military on African soil and yet no African military in theirs.

    With the Cameroun, the blame should go the Britts, when they were ready to leave Nigeria. That part of Cameroun should have been part of Nigeria, and that big nation of Nigeria should have been divided into 3. The Britts did not care how they left the nation of Nigeria.
    Britain & France are the 2 nations to be blamed for selecting parts of Africa in the 1894 Berlin Conference of slicing of the cake as far as Africa continent is concerned.
    France benefited & is still reaping a lot of it. The foreign reserves of the 14 french-speaking African states are still in the hands of France. Taxes, these nations pay every year is $500b. Why can't France stop doing this. France will slip into a third world country if not collecting this amount of money every year. Why is AU quiet about it? All because AU has a chairperson who is a puppet for France. And this Maki guy is making things bad for the Africa continent. And our leaders can't talk. They are muzzled because of some favors France gives them. We have cowards heading these African states. Africans are suffering because the playing fields are not equal. We can do better, folks.

    • @Ghanadiaries
      @Ghanadiaries 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      AU is quiet because citizens of those nations love France. How many people are agitating for change?
      Why should another country fight for them? Wait and see, soon these military guys will turn to France again.

  • @kwamesarpong1925

    It's so disturbing to hear such journalist act like he doee not know what France is doing in the French-speaking African states. Well, he is comfortable to sit in paris to ask those questions. What the ECOWAS is not doing is play fair. Why is Togo president still there after changing the constitution to suit him? And so is Ivory Coast. Yes, Cameroun is not one of us. Not part of the 15-member , Ecowas group. The Paul Biya guy has been there since 1986, all being protected by France troops. And look at the mistreatment of the "Anglophone" part of that same country. When will the people of Cameroun rise up to this inhumane treatment of section of the nation.
