Proponents of two-state solution must 'explain to Israel' how Palestinian state will ensure security

- The announcement by Ireland, Spain and Norway on the recognition of a Palestinian state is perceived by Israel as a major blow. Nomi Bar-Yaacov, international negotiator and Senior Research Fellow in the International Law Programme at Chatham House tells FRANCE 24's Mark Owen that the key missing element from their respective speeches in recognition of the Palestinian state is explaining to Israel how the existence of a Palestinian state will make Israel more secure.

Sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about
The analyst Nomi Bar-Yakoov does not seem to have listened to the statement of the Irish PM. He is saying precisely the things about Hamas and the hostages that she claims are not in the statement.
And, why does she expect that every actor on the world stage must coordinate every intended move with the Israelis first?
Its meant to keep the palestinians safe from you
Poor Israelis, they just need things explained to them and then they'll come around, believes this lady
She’s delusional
Countries do NOT need to explain anything! They're sovereign nations who can make their own decisions ffs. How about Israel and the US explain all their actions too? Maybe let some journalists into Gaza? Maybe show some of those "reports" they keep talking about so much? Yea, didn't think so.
Wow that woman was insufferable. The entitlement is crazy.

The Arabs declined a Palestinian state in 1948.
@@EchoBravo370 The Palestinians -- and their Arab neighbours -- resented the terms, which, according to just about every historian who's delved into the matter, were abysmal. You should have a go, too.

I consider the establishment of Palestinian rights and statehood as THE solution. Israel has had all the time in the world to come to a resolution but they have repeatedly shown that they are simply not interested. Quite the contrary. Their security is important but it cannot come at the expense of the perpetual oppression of Palestinians. Period. Congratulations to these European countries. Nomi is rather disingenuous if not naive. Does she really think that the war would end if the hostages were returned? If Nomi knows that this is helpful to Israel, why the emphasis on the explanation? Does she really think that the Israelis want to listen to anyone on anything? Pull the other one Nomi.
Yeah. If you're a Islamofascist lunatic or completely out of touch, then a Palestinian state seems great. Which are you?

This is an antisemitic statement, plenty of Israelis are already born there, you can’t shove six million Jews out of the region.
We are just offering Palestinians the same thing we offered Israel - state recognition. Literally every country on the planet has already either recognises Palestinian statehood, or supports it in principle as part of a two-state solution.
Hamas offered an all for all prisoner exchange on October 10th and have offered it multiple times since. Israel refused. Hamas recently agreed to a compromise deal that Israel refused. And Netanyahu has made clear that returning the hostages will not end the war.
Looks like the international negotiator is pro Israel not neutral 😂

This ladys argument is confused, its not for Norway an Ireland to explain the security arrangements, thats for Israel to sort out. Thats what the US has been telling Netanyahu that he has to have a plan for after the war. This lady seems to have not mentioned this until the end

So if these countries recognize Palestine, does that mean they also concede that Palestinians living there are no longer refugees, but citizens of their own country and any other Palestinians living outside of Palestine have the right of return to Palestine, not Israel?
Why is it the responsibility of these states to explain to Israe why they should leave the legally occupied territory? Enough with Israelis feelings. Its time gets tough.

There are 2 million Arabs living freely in Israel. While the world demands an Arab state, tell me what the Arabs would have done to the Jews if they had lost in 1948. What would make anyone thinks things have changed if they get their state from the savagery of Oct. 7
A Palestinian state, not an Arab state.
I suppose you mean an Arab Palestinian State.
@@anselmelerius4727 Recent studies have shown that Palestinian DNA has an 81% match with Bronze Age remains in that region meaning that Palestinians are indigenous for the last 3700 years. Just because they speak Arabic does not make them Arabs anymore than speaking English makes you English.

In 1948, the UN made Israel a state on PALESTINIAN land and ignored Palestinian statehood. Can't we see the 76-year error made by the UN?
With people like her, there will likely be no peace agreement. If Oct 7 was horrendous, then what happened to all the Palestinians jailed without trial. What about all the Palestinians living in an open air concentration camp. I would like to see Israelis live in such conditions for 3 months. if Israeli public is traumatized, what about the Palestinian public? US and Israel are not interested in two state solution or one state solution unless it is a Jewish state.
I do not agree with the statement that '' the new countries that had recognised the state of Palestine '' have the RESPONSIBILITY to explain to israel, how the process will/should be done ! Israel had enough time to decide, yet it didn't, what kind of statue as citizens the palestinians should have ! They failed so miserably, for the past 45 years, and now frustrated are throwing a tantrum for all the world to see them and solved their situation, simply because they can't accept any condition other than theirs !
"I think if the hostages were returned there wouldn't be a war in Gaza"- Wow I don't believe she thinks that at all. Netanyahu has said he plans to continue the war whether or not there is a hostage deal.

DOUBLE STANDARD AT IT'S FINEST 🙄.
...I believe the mood of ordinary people in many countries towards the long and painful situation vis a vis Israel and Palestine has been permanently changed by what has occurred
Is all about zionists not Palestine
For 100 years the Palestinians have been offered a state of their own, a two state solution, accepted by Israel and the rest of the world; and for 100 years the Palestinians have rejected it. What right do any countries have to impose their will on either Israel or Palestine? Western powers drew the lines on the map of the Middle East 106 years ago to suit their own interests. Until the people of the Middle East are allowed to decide their own fates, this conflict will never end.
We Hope that both South Korea and Japan will follow suit to recognized Palestine as Independent and sovereign state
3 Brave countries that have balls of steel
Personally I can't see what Palestinian statehood has got to do with Israel, Palestine has been where it is for centuries. I don't know why the west keep asking the Israelis, the Americans or the British, it has nothing to do with them, it's about Palestine and Palestinians.
Make 2 state solution, go back to 1967 borders. Then build walls around the border.
2 state solution with division of territory according to population %
And when Hamas or Islamic Jihad launch rockets can Israel invade and expel them all?
Okay, now, we have to understand; we are talking about a country -- Israel -- that regularly thumbs its nose at international law. That because it has America under its thumb, treats the rest of the world's expectations with disgust. Why should any country trust a nation's goodwill that keeps still another people's land? This Israeli leadership is trying to ethnically cleanse Gaza! It's obvious what their long term intent is. It's not a two state solution! There is absolutely no reason, for any nation to delay giving the Palestinian nationality what it rightly deserves, recognition of their own state!
You believe or NOT the UN is establish the state of Iisrael in 1947. You believe or NOT palestinians are people and human beings the same way like israeli
Why its always about Israel security? Palestinian needs more security from Israeli military brutal occupation. Palestine has every legal right to defend themselves. I fully respect Ireland, Spain, and Norway for their courage to recognize Palestine. They have proved they are on the right side of history and International Law...
Nomi is a bit off the mark. European guilt is one of the reasons they keep meddling. I think little Israel is big enough now to stop whining and arrive at the solution,m. It just wants to be 'exceptional', like mentor America.
Again, it's the West dictating the life of Palestinians. Let them be! From what we have seen, Palestinians are intelligent, educated, and want peace., but they are fed-up of being bossed around: what to eat, when to go to school, etc. When the borders are fixed, they can help to organize elections and start to be a normal coubtry.
Recognising Palestinian state is the first step woman, next topic can be figuring out the “how”; appreciate the baby steps world leaders are taking. As mentioned it is a complicated and sensitive to lot of people so taking some steps to recognise Palestinian people and state is a must! That’s what some leaders with backbones did. Appreciate that and move on to next stage.

No, countries recognizing Palestine do NOT need to explain how this makes Israel more secure. These countries do not work for Israel.

Why is it these countries responsibility to fend for Israel’s security at the expense of their morality?
Maybe they see a grave injustice and decided that it needs to be remedied and recognition is a step in that direction? That is what they deem in *their* interest. Why should they subordinate their interests to Israel?
What your outlet needs to remember is that the Law Based World Order has not yet been replaced by the "Rules Based World Order".
International Law says that as an illegally occupied place the people of Gaza and Palestine have a right to armed resistance.
The occupiers have duties of care towards the occupied people which is not met by bombing and starving women and children. This is not self defense.
Genocide is not excused because your religious texts say it is. Humanity and civilisation are more important than organised religion.
It is not up to them. It is Israel land. Very disappointed that any country would accept terrorists hub as state.
Yeah Norway knows all about national security. Thank you Norway
Perhaps if Nomi bothered to actually listen to the statement made by the Irish Taoiseach, she would know that the hostages were very much indeed mentioned and it was stated that they need to be released.
The nations that will recognize Palestine will entitle them to legal, financial, reconstruction and human rights abilities for statehood, Europe has a powerful legal abilities that Palestinians can access on the world stage, the EU and Arab states will construct a mega Palestinian state as a symbol of world peace.

I remember when Kosovo was forcefully taken out of Yoguslavia without consultation same thing with the creation of Israel why do Palestinians have to secure permission from Israel to have a state?
If anyone cannot understand that a Palestinian state will bring security to both Palestinians and Israelis, it's because they refuse to, not because it's an issue that is too complicated.
Very good central point from mrs Bar-Yaacov...........it emphaises the irrationality of Nethanyahu's, Gvir's and Gallant's, et al, position with regard to the conflict in Palestine and it gives Israeli people an alternative narrative that preserves the State of Israel.
Israeli government doesn't have to explain what their "day after plan" entails, but countries that recognize Palestine HAVE to explain to Israel why they did...😅
I'm not one of those countries, but I can say this will make Israel more secure, because it will.
The night is darkest before the dawn and this night is very dark.
"The most important teacher, failure is." As exemplified perfectly by the trilogy of movies housing that line.
The root miatake was accepting belfour declaration. British should just accept jewish refugees in ww2 instead of putting them at palestine. But we all know why nobody want to take them as refugees
Isreal never even adhered to the Balfour agreement!
what a total lack of knowledge, the Brits put holocaust survivors in camps on Cyprus and REFUSED to allow them into Palestine, that's why the Jews were fighting the British.
Britain had a LEGAL mandate from the League of Nations to CREATE a home for the Jews in Palestine and failed.
Why the Establishment of Palestinian State should be dependent to Isreal security, do establishment of Ukrainian state is dependent on Russian security? It's an excuse to countinue the oppression and suffer no consequences.
“If the hostages were returned there wouldn’t be a war” said your distinguished guest. Let me remind her, as well as others, that the conditions suffered by the Palestinian population predate the hostage situation by decades, as well as by the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians.
Does she know WHY the Brigades went in to get hostages? Because that actually *matters.*
America recognizes Palestine as a country! 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
A serious problem over the years is the way Israeli society in general has become dismissive, to a criminal degree, of all things Palestinian. As a democracy, it is certainly co-responsible with their government of the war atrocities committed in Gaza.

"If the hostages were returned, there wouldn't be a war in Gaza"
Nonsense.
the Israelis have already said that they would continue their war regardless of whether the hostages are returmed.
Either this so called expert is not paying attention, or she is not being honest.
The map forgot to “green” #Iceland. Iceland do recognise Palestine. In case some would say the map covers only EU countries and not EFTA countries then why Norway was highlighted and not #Iceland while they’re both Non-Eu Efta countries. This was definitely a mistake. Hopefully it will be fixed in the future.
It’s a shame that all of this will be undermined by the survivors and allies of Gaza focused on seeking justice. The future will be less secure.
As long as HAMAS is in control of Palestine, there's no way in HELL that Israel will recognize Palestine as a state. And I do not blame them for doing so.
Its strange how Israel always talk about their security, while what we always see, Israel is relatively safe althought implementing discrimination against Palestine, building illegal settlement in Palestine land and see how insecure Palestinians in their home, how insecure their family and children living in their own land, and how powerful is Israel with the full support of US and the west , comparing to Palestine Authority
