Yes, sir, I actually felt the left arm working like a lever, allowing the elbow to target in downswing. It naturally wanted to square the face, and it was less effort. Thanks for the knowledge.

Great explanation of this often overlooked aspect of the golf swing. I've found that pointing the elbow towards the target makes it so much easier to swing back with a straighter arm and flat wrist, which has improved my ball contact immensely. Thanks again!

Perhaps the single most important thing that you introduced me to was the downward pressure on the handle through delivery and impact. Improved my ability to control the club head. Reduced my flipping, and hitting toe shots with high dynamic loft. Hope that makes sense. Thank you so much.

Thanks mate.. Now i realized why i can't seem to swing naturally and always have the awkward feeling like i can't control my lead arm.. Its because at address the inside if my left elbow already pointed to the sky and it makes me uncomfortable when initiating the backswing and also when executing the downswing.. When i try the back of my lead elbow at address pointed at the target i can execute the entire golf swing naturally without any of the awkward feelings..

Stuart, i watched almost all your videos and absolutely love the educational approach, i have so more trust when i understand why to change something.
You mentioned the importance of pulling the hands towards the ball first, as a "steepener" who pulls the hands downwards and then very close to the body, i would be highly interested in more information on how to pull it outside towards the ball in the beginning. Can you recommend drills for that purpose or did i miss a video?

Without any conscious thought my left elbow has been pointing back toward the left hip. Just gripping the club and taking an address position that is where it ends up. For some reason it must feel stronger to me. Plan to give the "pointing at the target" position a try and see what happens. The way you explain it makes sense to me.

Tried it yesterday. Seemed to work pretty well. Had my best scoring round in a while. A general question for you. When I try something new for the first time I can perform the move after just a few swings. However, when I come back to perform the same move the next day I have lost it and struggle to get it back. Is this a quirk in human learning? Have you run into this with your students?

    • @GoodGolfCoaching
      @GoodGolfCoaching  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi David - there is always a euphoric moment of change, the problem is the point at which you migrate from the old to the new and knowing how hard to push the feels. If you find the performance drop off, push the feel even harder or even film and confirm you are doing as much as before. Usually, after a positive result from change, most golfers reduce the intensity of the feeling which impact the results negatively. Hope this helps Sir. @@user-mc6jj4xm2c

For many years, I followed Hogans 5 lessons. Im sure you know he fought a hook. I wasn't aware then. I blindly followed his elbow pockets pointed in the sky. Plus, his weaker grip, for him, promoted his preferred fade. Of course, most of us fight the slice. For a while it worked, I was connected, but quick fixes never last, do they ? Your lesson here pointed out my fault very clearly as regards to the lead elbow. Off to the range today to work on this drill, just going through your moves here indoors makes it obvious to me what im doing wrong. Brilliant insight, even though you got tounge tied early on, lol ! Many thanks Stuart.

@GoodGolfCoaching just been to the range. My elbow pocket has looked at the sky of late, so it was an effort to get the elbow looking at the target. I started out with half swings, gradually swinging longer. The results were obviously better. I did pull a few, but some draws in there too. It'll take a while to bed in, but I know it's on the right track. For those of you who may think it's complicated, it isn't. Copy Stuart's movement in this video and you'll feel and see the difference. Swing slowly at first.
      Thanks again Stuart

I just came back to this video and I would suggest Stuart does another video on this subject comparing this to something Bryson said just before his US Open win - that when he sets up to the golf ball he internally rotates his whole arm (so lead elbow points to target) then externally rotates his lower arm before gripping the club.
That leads to the obvious questions: is Bryson simply saying the same thing as Stuart but in a slightly different way; is Bryson's idea a good one to consistently ensure we are doing what Stuart suggests; or is Bryson' s idea and Stuart's teachings just too different

Very interesting video. Most youtube coaches talk often about the the Hogan approach of having elbows point to each hip. Stuart, I have a very strong lead grip yet my elbow is most comfortable pointing back to the hip. I tried some practice swings with a strong grip and internally rotating my shoulder to point the elbow towards the target and it felt like the takeaway was more "solid" and felt (haven't confirmed with video) that it was easier to get the club on the right path/plane in the backswing. Does that make sense?

Great video. I have a few tendencies and one is my left hand grip weakening over time until the point it gets obvious and I self correct. Seeing how the strong grip also helps preset the elbow, causing it to want to return to that position, thus closing the club face is SO SO helpful!! And once the strong left hand is on the club, the corresponding position of the right hand gets my right elbow in that correct position where the inside of the elbow points away from the body. I love when one change fixes other issues for free.

Ok. Please post just the correct swing path with left elbow. Then I can pause and view. Too much talk, noise in the current video.
Why don’t coaches start with the correct swing and then show all the bad swings… Most videos are too much loooong talk at the beginning, then describing what amateurs do…. By then viewers lose interest..confused..

I never realized how un flexible my elbow is. I feel like I have to move my wrist to make my elbow move.
I guess it's time to work on flexibility drills. 😂😅

@GoodGolfCoaching I'm pretty sure my wife would leave me if I start walking around the house in spandex. Nobody needs to see that. 🤣
I get your point, though. I am gonna work on that. Thanks.

It wasn't disappointing if someone just gave you the ingredients to bake a cake. You wouldn't have a clue. You need to know how it all goes together to bake it right. The understanding is the learning
