It seems to me, that this is a very similar move to what Jimmy Ballard prescribed many years ago. It is his belief that if you stay connected to your torso with your arms, and maintain a triangle between your arms, between waist high back and waist high through, your contact will be more solid. It’s very similar to what I’m currently working on in my swing.
I couldn't break 100 before I found your teachings. I broke 90 yesterday on a par 68 course. I've learned a lot from TH-cam golf teachings but most of my improvement has come from watching your videos over the course of only a few weeks. I will be buying merch from you as a thank you. Can't thank you enough really Alex.
Wow, you're doing great. Keep up the good work mate. Don't forget, if you can learn to chip and putt, you can easily get into the 70s with an up and down game that results in converting 40% of the time. I call it 2 chops and a plop game management. You can miss every green in regulation. As long as you're 4o yards from the green, and you get it up and down 40% of the time, that's 7 to 8 pars a round. If the rest end up as a chip and 2 putts, that's a bogey for the remainder, bringing you at around 83 (on a par 72) From there, high 70s are within reach once you hit just 4 greens in regulation. It's really about course management and playing within your limitations. The score card does not reflect style points, greens in regulation, or bombs off the tee. It only records a simple number of strokes, and it does NOT care one iota about how you did it. So practice that short game 80% of the time. Use the range sparingly for chasing a perfect golf swing is a recipe for driving yourself crazy in the pursuit. Short game short game short game!!! No one does this however because all those golfers at the driving range mistaking believe it's the equivalent of the squat rack in the gym and they must load on every plate to impress upon the world how strong they are, when in fact no-one gives a hoot. What they do care about is when their opponents drive them crazy with a killer short game and they 3 whack 7 greens a round, having then to reach for their wallets to hand over their hard lost cash to the short game master, who's more of a psychological warfare agent than a perfect golf swing aficionado chasing rainbows and unicorns.
I love how your videos have a POV angle of what you are seeing in the swing! I’ve watched so many golf videos and you are the only one that provides the a POV angle. Please keep doing that!
This advice has been the most beneficial to my golf game thus far. Due to my inability to swing my irons properly, I went so far as to acquire a set of hybrid clubs. This advice enabled me to shoot lower than my typical score with my hybrids while using irons I haven't used in about two months.
This is MAGIC! 😳 I’ve done this for three rounds now and I’m hitting fairways with my driver and throwing darts at the flag with my irons. Yes, it feels different (especially with inside of the right elbow facing outward & then turning the right hand so the “V” points at right shoulder), but … this is that one magic golf tip we’ve all been looking for. ☝🏻 Thanks, Alex … keep up the good work.
Out of the hundreds of YT videos I've watched, this is the simplest and most effective tip, change, adjustment I've seen. My dispersion off the drive has shank noticeably. I need more work with the irons to be consistent, but I've already hit the type of shots I've never hit in my life. Thank you Alex. 7/21. 11:37am
Thank you Alex! This made an unmistakable difference in my shots. Doing the curl & just turning the wrist gets me on the right path for the shot better than the method I used to try (bringing the right elbow in on the downswing). This was seriously helpful : )
I have been watching your videos since this past spring and have applied a number of your teachings. I’ve been a mid to upper 80’s guy for 20+ years. Over the last month, using your teaching, I’ve been breaking 80 at my home course 3 out of 4 times. I play 2 to 4 times a week with very little practice. Your concepts are simple and easy to follow. I just have to be careful with how many I bring to any one round at a time, which is hard to do because of the exciting possibilities each time I play! Eliminating 6 to 10 shots a round is a big deal for me over the course of a few months and I have a new found excitement for the game! Thank you for sharing and making this guy more excited about playing and knowing I can improve my game as I get older.
I watched this last night and rewatched it a couple times. Went out to the range today. Hit some really solid shots with the irons and hit 6 drives, not one slice (what I struggle with the most). Thanks man and keep up the good work.
I've learned to play the slice, just like I learned to play the shank. My shanks are up to about 45 per round, I'm even learning how to shank my bunker shots where the ball careens off the hotel, along the ground like a honey badger seeking its prey, up the grassy bank and over the fringe nestling right next to the cup for an easy tap in. I play the shank so beautifully in my game that opponents fear being paired with me because they know just how contagious the shank is, and they're not prepared to deal with it emotionally, psychologically, and physically. The Shank! Golf's secret weapon.
Thanks! This video has done wonders for me. I didn't have one fat shot today, I could tell I gained club head speed because my distance improve. I found I needed to stand a little closer to the ball. Only adjustment I had to make.
Played yesterday and tried the drill. Was a bit inconsistent with driver but irons loads better. Finished last 2 par 4 holes with birdie putts from less than 6 feet ok I missed them but my 6 iron approaches were the best I've hit in a long time. Will persevere with the right elbow
When I watched this last night I thought yeah right. Wow was I wrong...I've been struggling with ball striking this season so far (lots of slices and pulls) and was generally shooting high 90's as a result. Took this tip and shot an 87 tonight with some of the straightest ball flight I've seen from myself maybe ever. New happy sub here.
I really enjoyed this tip, I have been a slicer most of my golfing career, I have been trying to learn how to hit a draw. I have worked so hard a trying to draw the ball that I have lost my slice or fade, now when I want to hit a fade I’m having trouble.
I’ve been trying to work on this for a while Alex. It seems to work well with irons, but with the driver, more often than not leads to a push or push fade.
After I watched your video, I rushed myself to the range to experiment this tip. Wow ! It works. Amazing. You know , I watch a lot of golf instructions on you tube . I would say it’s the most improving tip I received since I play golf… And I’m 68 …
Thanks for the Cheat Code. Player perspective was key for me. As a singe digit HC, I was definitely struggling to achieve it. I look forward to a round in the 60s this year and almost did it yesterday with this move. Thanks Alex, like the way you keep it real.
This was an excellent video Alex! I am very aware of the duty of the right arm in the swing and as such, I set it just as you suggest. It's surprising how much better my strikes are when done properly. I also know when it leaves my side because an errant shot is the result! Good Job Alex!
Very helpful. I will take this with the towel drill as well to really drill this home. For fairway woods, I assume the irons approach still applies since you’re not really hitting up off the deck?
I started doing this last week with the video you did about the placement of the toe of the driver to the tee. Worked like dream. Best I drove the ball ever
This is one of the best tips I've ever had Alex. Ball striking improved a lot but curiously all my shots are going slightly left now which is easily sorted.👍
This definately makes sense!! Think i am dropping my right shoulder too much on my irons. I hit a fat shots alot ! Definately gonna try this! Great video!
Great explanation! Very Ben Hogan-y. Ben Hogan said point your elbows at your hips, literally getting the same setup that you end up with. I definitely will incorporate your ideas.
Can you do a post on topping on ball strike it small practicable bite size chucks and include a strike in slow mo to show how a full complete swing looks.
3 things: 1. Great lesson; I’ll take this with me to the range after work today! 👍🏾 2. 🚨GOLF NERD ALERT🚨. Are the Fujikura “Ventus” line of driver shafts the greatest, or what?!?!?🥰 (Project X “Hzrdus” a close second!) 3. I love how Alex is growing out his “TH-cam-PGA-Pro” beard. (Shielsy, Finchey, and Mattie need to have you on for a scramble! MAKE IT HAPPEN, ALEX!) All the best, Alex! 🙌🏾
Timely video. Great contact when done properly. My miss with this move is often a push - open clubface - difficulty squaring up the clubface. Any tips for getting the clubface back to square without reverting back to an over-the-top move?
I have appreciated your videos and perspective. Wondering if you might cover the legs, both left and right in backswing and downswing as this seems to be the key to both stabilize as produce power and consistency…? Thanks
Whats the best mental approach to having 2 different swings with irons and woods? I use Sam Goulden's videos and method of the square to square swing for my irons, I recently got a driver lesson and use a open to close swing. Lately it feels like I can't sort them out on the course.
When you address the ball with an iron, should the club lay completely horizontal to the ground. It seems to me there are times where the toe of the club is not touching the ground? Beginning with the heel, maybe 3/4 of the iron touches the ground, but the remaining 1/4 that includes the toe is up off the ground. And when you strike the ball, is the club totally parallel to the ground at moment of impact?
Awesome tip. Thank you for taking the time to show us your tips. You make them so simple to learn and understand. I Can actually feel the difference in my swing.
Alex, I like your videos, and I would like you to make a video showing how to swing with the shoulders while keeping both arms straight. I played my best golf doing this, but I have forgotten how to do it properly. Thanks, John
Dude! I started playing a year ago. This past winter I was shooting 125+. Around February I started really watching your videos and practicing what you teach. Last month I shot 100. Thanks to your videos! Thank you Alex. Keep ‘em coming. All the way from South Carolina USA. 🤘🏼🏌🏻
Love this tip it helped me to a nett 67 in our monthly medal competition two shots ahead of the field. It definitely helped keep my ball in play. I will be adopting this method and looking forward to reducing my handicap even further. Thanks Alex.
Thanks Alex great tips. Would you please consider playing your "watch me hit this away" shots in both normal speed and slow motion so we can really see what you have taught us, onya mate
Great video and "cheat code" Alex. I was out yesterday trying this and really improved contact. AND I found it helped massively with pitching - had the dreaded s*anks for months and this looks like the fix 🙏
I see the nice divot you hit there with your iron. When I hit my irons I tend to take very little divot. I'm hitting the ball ok but little divot. There historically have been two schools of thought on ball position... one is like Nicklaus... play every ball off the left heel. The other old school thought is move the ball back in your stance as you move to shorter irons. What do you subscribe to and what is the key factor here? Also, I tend to keep my wider stance up to my 7 iron and go a little more narrow with 8, 9 and wedges. With the narrow stance I feel I have less power. I am now 62 years old. Hogan said he wished he had 3 right hands. With your bent right elbow, do you try to extend the elbow thru impact to increase power? Btw I have always enjoyed your videos...you're very "down to earth" and do nice instruction. Where do you do most of your videos from... .England?
@@AlexElliottGolf The thing is, these two tips help me get the club back in the right place consistently. You presented them from the golfer's viewpoint, so I can replicate them in the setup and in the takeaway. When I go to the range I practice getting them correct on shot after shot. Thanks.
Hi alex started playing 4 years back iam 62 years from india..i struggling with those 4 5 footer putts..plz give tips right from the grip to swing path and more
I used this at the range today and I was so shocked at how straight the ball was going. Specially as I slice the ball when driving all the time!!! Thanks Alex
If I do this with a strong grip it’s snap hook city. But it does allow me to hit a draw with a neutral grip when I get it right. Been trying to build in a neutral grip with driver. I hit irons great with a neutral grip but I need a strong grip with driver Dk what it is
Content is fantastic and i use alot of your tips. I would like to know the best way to get the perfect flex in your knees for all clubs? Keep up the great work
Good info. In my experience, there are other setup ideas you can incorporate that also relate to impact position. You should do more along this line of thought, because not everybody has the same feels, and there are other 'presets' to explore.
The funny thing…while hitting a draw I unknowingly got my right shoulder down sending the golf ball flying. I realised it when I saw your video. Would this apply when using a 3 wood and hybrid off a tee ?
I'm right handed but play left handed. Should I try i get my left hand and arm stronger and more active in the swing or use my stronger right arm to square the club?
Is there a drill to help with the feeling of going from Driver (hitting up) the fairway woods (sweeping the ground) and irons (hitting down)? As an amateur it would be nice to have a mental image for each.
This is a good technique. also, there are bands you can buy to put over both arms and keep your arms connected and close to your body. When I was a kid, I would put a plastic coat hanger over my arms for the same feeling.
I’ll take it one step further…I’ve been suffering from inconsistent contact forever (who hasn’t?)…to get an idea where I’m supposed to be at impact, I set up at impact…and as soon as I did that, I asked myself, why not just start my swing from here? So I did…and voila…I was going from maybe hitting 4 or 5 out of 15 balls solidly, to 13 or 14! Not sure why we address the ball in the position we do…makes so much sense to start where you want to be when you contact the ball! Try it and you’ll thank me later…
*This player cam HONESTLY makes this SO SO easy to understand!*

Hi - answering your question in tonight’s video so keep a look out, it goes live at 8pm UK time
Best video thus far Alex! Simple tips!!
Brilliant once again Alex. So easy to understand.
Content is fantastic and i use alot of your tips. I would like to know the best way to get the perfect flex in your knees for all clubs? Keep up the great work
Reading Ben Hogans lessons he says swing the club like throwing a ball sidearm. I didn’t understand. Now I do.
Good info. In my experience, there are other setup ideas you can incorporate that also relate to impact position. You should do more along this line of thought, because not everybody has the same feels, and there are other 'presets' to explore.
Thanks. This has been the answer for me, I just have to stick with it, as you say. Love the channel. Keep it up mate.
Thank you Pete! So happy to help you with your game!!!
The funny thing…while hitting a draw I unknowingly got my right shoulder down sending the golf ball flying. I realised it when I saw your video. Would this apply when using a 3 wood and hybrid off a tee ?
What causes left to right fade with driver?
Starting doing this and it has been a game changer for me
You’re really good to watch. Probably my favorite on golf!
Very kind thank you!🙌🏼
Such a helpful tip Alex. A game changer. Thanks very much
Hi Alex! Pretty cool tips as always 😊👍👍. Thanks again and cannot wait for more! 😁 😊
Alex, how do I stop rushing my entire swing, particularly the down swing? Thanks.
I'm right handed but play left handed. Should I try i get my left hand and arm stronger and more active in the swing or use my stronger right arm to square the club?
stronger to square the club!
Is there a drill to help with the feeling of going from Driver (hitting up) the fairway woods (sweeping the ground) and irons (hitting down)? As an amateur it would be nice to have a mental image for each.
Great suggestion Cody! Keep your eyes on the channel I have you covered
I am subscribed.....the elbow and right arm is how one hit ball correctly 😊👍🙃
Used this technique in my game today. Great drives. Now I need to work on short game. Cheers
Thank you Francis!
I can't wait to work on this at the range!
Won’t this always lead to a strong right hand grip?
No. The key is to keep your elbow close to the body at address while maintaining your usual grip, as he demonstrates.
Used this today. Hit some of the purest shots I've hit in years. Knocked one to 10 feet on a par 3 and made birdie. Can't wait to get back out. 🏌♂️
This is a good technique. also, there are bands you can buy to put over both arms and keep your arms connected and close to your body. When I was a kid, I would put a plastic coat hanger over my arms for the same feeling.
I’m a literally doing this in my pre shot routine on every shot and it has made a huge difference in my ball striking! Thank you so much
Fantastic lesson. Thank you.
This has helped me so much it changed my game totally your awesome 👍
I’ll take it one step further…I’ve been suffering from inconsistent contact forever (who hasn’t?)…to get an idea where I’m supposed to be at impact, I set up at impact…and as soon as I did that, I asked myself, why not just start my swing from here? So I did…and voila…I was going from maybe hitting 4 or 5 out of 15 balls solidly, to 13 or 14! Not sure why we address the ball in the position we do…makes so much sense to start where you want to be when you contact the ball! Try it and you’ll thank me later…
