    Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak vs Monster Hunter World: Iceborne or maybe you prefer World vs Rise, or Iceborne vs Sunbreak, regardless they all mean the same thing. I aim to answer the question of which game is better. You can buy both games here on my nexus store, and even get a free month of nitro if you do so in august. Nexus.gg/swoocer You can play both of these games on steam deck too! Afflicted Monsters otherwise known as anomaly monsters are a huge part of sunbreak, but how do they stack up to the end game of iceborne? Furthermore you've got curious crafting I'm curious as to how that'll stack up as well! (I'm so sorry)

    For me it has to be World, I'm a massive fan of ecology and biology so seeing a game feel so immersive with the environment feel so alive is incredible, the maps are made for hunting but exploring them is just as fun, catching all the endemic life, finding secrets in the map, unlocking camps etc. is just as as fun to me as the hunting itself. I do have criticisms for the game but many of them are either due to the limitations of the old engine or just personal preference, no game is perfect but World is close to perfect for me. (PS: I still love Rise/Sunbreak and other Monster Hunter Games prior to Gen 5)

    Man, as a first time Monster Hunter player, when I played World, it was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had in my 20+ years of gaming. It was nothing short of brilliant. It brought happy feelings and memories every time I sat down to play. There were many moments where I played with a huge grin on my face savoring what a wonderful game it was. I was completely in love with it and still am. Rise is coming on the PS5 horizon and I'm feeling this sadness that I have to leave the World.. All those beautiful environments, monsters, feelings and the vibe. It makes me sad that I'll be leaving it but hey, Rise sounds like a great experience too. Maybe I'll return to World to finish my Iceborne Platinum, who knows. By the way, I loved the video a great deal.

    MH World's scale was amazing. It really made you feel like these were massive creatures and not just bosses. They felt powerful and emotive, kind of like the bosses of Shadow of the Colossus.
    IMO, literally all Worldborne needed to essentially be perfect was more customization options for weapons (like GU) and less eventual emphasis on clutch claw. If the next mainline title basically gave weapons different styles like either GU or like SunRise gave hammer 3 stances, but largely did most other things like World, I'd be beside myself.

    • @EhurtAfy
      @EhurtAfy ปีที่แล้ว +5

      MH World would've gone down as one of my favorite games of all time if just a couple things were different.
      *1. Every hunt should give all monster parts.* It makes no sense to not be able to harvest scales and bones during EVERY hunt. Since when are monsters suddenly devoid of these parts? Maybe certain parts like horns, but not scales/pelts/bones.
      *2. Every player should have 3 carts per mission.* It doesn't make sense for a monster to get a huge buff per player, yet the whole team still be limited to 3 carts. I basically played solo for this reason even though I wanted to play with friends.
      *3. It'd be nice to actually hunt/trap monsters instead of having a 30-minute gladiator duel with them.* It's the dumbest thing ever. IRL hunting deer, boar, bear doesn't mean fighting them with a longsword. It is at least possible to hunt early monsters like Great Jagras in seconds.
      It's been a couple years since I touched World, but these things still bother me off the top of my head. It's basically squandered potential and it hurts to see how close to perfection a game could be. Just a few easily addressable issues really

    • @harveyboi3917
      @harveyboi3917 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      @@EhurtAfy Dude thats just monster hunter in general. Its not squandered potential, its making creatures tens of times larger than you able to last more than a few minutes in a fight with a little man/woman poking it with sticks.
      Point 3: Where's the fun in killing large monsters by the boatload in seconds? Hunters aren't gods. They are humans bordering on Captain America levels of strength.
      You compare it to real life as if this isn't MONSTER hunter. We aren't hunting small boars or bears with weak skin that can die to a bullet. We're hunting monsters. These things are huge and full of meat and scales that could possibly turn back bullets and blades. Heck, if your weapon isn't sharp enough you might get your swing turned back by a part of the monster. What's essentially happing is that since the weapons of monster hunter can't just outright kill the monsters in one blow, you need to whittle them down slowly and attack weak points consistently until they die.
      Point 2: If everyone got 3 carts then the game would lose a large semblance of difficulty lest they pump up the health and damage even more. This is because with the right builds and game knowledge you can avoid death from any creature while still dishing out an obscene amount of damage. If the game gave the players a total of 12 lives then even decent players would never fail difficult quests because the restrictions wouldn't be great enough.
      Point 1: I can see why you think hunts should give all parts, however the way I see it its because you can't skin the whole monster yourself so the commission does it for you. And since the commission employs you, and they skin the monster, they take a large portion of the materials they get. If hunters got all of what they killed, then the commission wouldn't function properly.
      Monster hunter is a game about you hunting monsters and getting stronger through refinement of your skills and making equipment. Its not an easy game, but it's a really well crafted one.

    • @EhurtAfy
      @EhurtAfy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harveyboi3917 The commission should just shower Anjanaths with ballistas, makes no sense to risk hunter's lives by fighting in close-quarters. Same problem with Call of Duty where in real life, troops operate from a secure, strategic point, but in-game everyone is running around and jumping carelessly. Campers are usually despised in these death-match style shooters.
      I think it'd be more fun if Monster Hunter lived up to its name and focused more on exploration/studying a creature's habitat and crafting elaborate traps that effectively one-shot or severely cripple monsters. There are traps and hazards that do significant damage, but they are under-powered. Essentially, the game is Monster Fighter, not Monster Hunter.
      The game teases a lot of amazing things, and is so close to perfection it hurts. Capcom just seems out-of-touch and could easily accelerate Monster Hunter out of the weeb zone if they wanted to
      Didn't even mention how ridiculous it is to have an hour to fight a creature and only 60 seconds to harvest; biggest facepalm in the game.

    • @harveyboi3917
      @harveyboi3917 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@EhurtAfy 1. I'm not sure if you've seen the dragonator or dragonrazor, but if you think that they could make something better when that seems like the best technology they can prepare, then by all means, convince me I'm wrong. CANNONS hardly scratch monsters. BALLISTAS don't do anything either except tie down the monster for a few seconds with special ammo made from rarer material. Fatalis for instance would be capable of wiping a strategic operation to bits with one nova. The game sets the limits of technology at the level of steampunk. Medieval style siege weapons have little effect. Their biggest hitters are barely capable of heavily wounding a monster of the caliber of an elder dragon. And they require massive preparation and strategy that IS enacted in the game.
      2. There's a bigger thing that you are missing in Monster Hunter. Its not about modern day style of hunting, but rather a more primitive style, where physical prowess with spears and bows were the deciding factor in a hunter. Sure there were elements of stalking and set up in that style of hunting too, but it was much more difficult executing a perfect one shot hunt back then. Monster Hunter takes this primitive nature, makes it more complex and grander, and then does it that way.
      3. I think that a monster hunter game that was more realistic and strategy oriented would turn away more people than it attracted. Because Monster Hunter is mostly an over the top spectacle game (especially MHW that is all about showing how outclassed you are) and most of the community are drawn towards that factor. Also saying its in the weeb zone when its made by Capcom, the people who made street fighter, the sweatiest weeb-like game, is hilarious to me. Both games are good, and the weeb factor adds to it IMO.
      4. Finally, you only have 60 seconds because it is better to skin a creature while it is fresh. Its the first step of the process of beef cows right after killing it, bleeding it dry, and shocking the meat. It doesn't take long in between the steps because no one likes decayed stuff. And hunters are trained in fighting, not skinning. But sure, lets say they had the tools and experience to skin it. The body is way too heavy to move since they are so damn large, so a large surface area of the materials are impossible to skin. Furthermore, a monster with large and tough scales (though weakened by the battle), would be really hard to scavenge with the tools us modern humans have. So how long would this take? For reference, cows are usually hung by hooks and then skinned (video for citation: th-cam.com/video/6sJGNHiQwCo/w-d-xo.html) and this guy can do it in about 5 minutes or less. This is with a cow. Cows have pretty tender skin, at least compared to the monsters in this game. You might be able to do the same thing with a paolumu with hide or Great Jagras/Pukei Pukei with weak scales, albeit a bit slower. That isn't even accounting for storing the materials (where the fuck is the hunter going to put them as they haul it back to camp?) I don't think you could do that for bigger monsters, much less stuff like Barroth and Diablos which have PLATES of hard material. I would hardly call it a facepalm, its pretty satisfying to skin for a few seconds after a kill. Any longer and it gets tedious unless they add a minigame rather than the PRESS B TO CARVE option.

      I would argue that SunRise did a lot more with the older cast than WorldBorne. In Iceborne, they completely forgot the World cast, didn't even give some of them new moves and some of Iceborne's monsters weren't good enough to stop that, looking at you Viper, Shrieking and Nightshade
      While Sunbreak doesn't have a lot of new monsters in the first couple of ranks, they fill it up with new MR versions of low tier monsters, some of which get tons of new moves. In the later half more new monsters show up but don't take away from the original roster, they just spice it up.

You can just look at your map when you enter the arena, find the monster, head over, prepare by collecting endemic life and spirit birds as you ride in your palimute, find monster and do badass jump attack from palimute and start hacking away. Monsters themselves are not 'easy' per se its more due to the fact Risebreak gives players way too much advantages with utilities that trivialize monsters e.g. faster mobility, wirefall recovery, silkbinds, switch skills, monster riding, laternbugs etc. Sunbreak added more advantages which were not necessary such as the element bugs on walls to ram the monsters for additional damage. As for the better game both have their pros and cons. As for more fun I would have to go with Risebreak despite the balance issues. Off topic I loved underwater combat and it needs to return.

    What I would really love to know: are the maps of Rise/Sunbreak really smaller then the World/Iceborne maps. They feel smaller, that I will admit right away, but if I would spend the time to just run from the base camp to the other side of the map, lets say from the starting camp on the Shrine Ruins to the wyvern nest, I think I would need at least as much time as I would need in World to traverse a map. Many people forget, that the Rise hunter has way more movement options: wirebugs, the palamute of course and those shining wirebugs, that can fling you over half the map. Kinda the same for me. I love the visuals of Worldborne and honestly i love the tempo of fights. WorldBorne feels more akin to Elden Ring than SunRise ever has. In WorldBorne you have to prep, track, weaken parts, wall bang, damage and then use enviroment/traps to go in for the kill. In sunrise its just grab birb and hit monster....WorldBorne really pushes players to make full use of inventory items. If you wanted to be a good player you always brought bombs, traps, flash/sonic/sleep, and dung bombs for the occasional pesky pickle. Dung bombs have almost no play in SunRise and the rest of it feels more optinal than mandatory. The utility of items just didn't scale in SunRise and Afflicted quests are just a slug fest. I am still going to play SunRise until they stop updating it because its still a good game but i just don't get the same feeling for it as I do WorldBorne. I just wish they let you get charms as quest rewards so you could passively have maybe 1 or 2 decent ones after the story, instead of you have dog crap or nothing and now you have to actively engage in the melding system. Still like charm rng more than deco rng tho.

      Take lance in iceborne. It’s attacks didn’t do much damage on their own. But they all had very low commitment. Now In sunbreak, it’s best attacks have VERY high commitment and legit it feels like you have input lag the entire time your playing the weapon. You constantly are thinking ahead of what the monster is going to do. Which can be nice and takes skill, but that’s not what lance is about. It’s about second to second in the moment reacting and trading with the monster instead of having 1 move do 700 damage (perfect guard)

    I think it's important to have both when the portable team arguably makes the most money with where the trajectory of the video game market is going at the moment (portable systems sell really well). But at the same time console/PC centered Monster Hunters like World/Iceborne are far more ambitious on a technical/conceptual level - the devs ever since Tri arguably have been trying to gain mainstream success, but it wasn't until they broke out of their mold enough that it happened with World; my parents and brother actually knew what Monster Hunter was then when previously it wouldn't have even been a blip on their radar of what gaming is. There is a time and place for overwhelming, risky projects (World). And there is a time for safe, yet fun investments that give you the time and space to be creative for the former (Rise). It kind of reminds me of the experiments you might read in a research paper about the effects of giving financial rewards for faster completion of tasks. The quality of the outcome always tend to favor projects of relatively little cognitive skill. That's not to say that Rise was an easy game to make in all of it's facets, almost everything exists on a spectrum but you have to admit that after making so many games with a monster model they aren't going to waste their time redoing by scratch rather than adjusting some values or certain key textures like fur. I'd assume the wire-bug and everything that came with that addition garnered the most development time. World felt like a complete overhaul of the sensibilities of prior games, for good or ill. And for the most part it succeeded enough because it had those incremental steps of evolution (MHTri and MH4) and even some periods of deep reflection (The Generation games were literally described as celebratory by the devs in an interview, sometimes you need that to understand where your heading and maybe even to let off some pressure about said future).

      Why are you questioning the realism? Is it fun? Yes! Worst part of world is the tiring level of navigation

      because the feel of the game is what made world great. im not saying its not fun just that its a detractor going from moves and attacks that feel like they have impact vs combat that is SFX spam anime fight.

    I could never quite figure out why I preferred World over Rise but I think this video nailed it. I wasn’t able to beat World at the end of the day because monkey goes hard but still easily some of the most fun I’ve had

    I've been thinking about getting world and icebourne. Is it too late to start them with rise and sunbreak already being out?

      If you still havent played rise has less players then world at the moment so its still good

    hey i know im like, a few months late but around 10:21 when you go about talking about using the wire bugs to dodge attacks, I'm not sure if it was intentional or not but you forgot to mention that for some god awful reason the monster doing low ground attacks can hit players jumping in the air as long as they are directly below the player, doesn't matter whether its a plain wire bug jump or using aerial based attacks like helmbreaker or dual blades vault attack that sends them upwards

      Yeah you're totally right. This video is a few months old so I can't remember if I had a reason for not talking about it or not, but I think the most likely scenario is that I just forgot lol. Thanks for pointing it out!

    I think I prefer the style of Iceborne but ultimately they're both fantastic experiences.

    If you want an immersive experience : World
    If you want challenges and mechanics : Rise

    I personally adore the more immersive aspects of Worldborne and would love to see them in Wilds. However the flow of combat in Sunrise is downright addicting. I hope we get a specific mixture of both. Lively, fully fleshed out ecosystems like those we see in World, and weapon customization and general combat flow like we see in Rise.

    It seems to me that Capcoms plan is building something that does not require total commitment and using the handheld version as a beta test to when they finally will go all out, I’m pretty sure the next game will be a fusion of world and rise, to get a bigger roster of monsters and to just shine up the graphics. I started rise 2 weeks ago, so far I still prefer world.
