  • How the details of Monster Hunter World Iceborne compare to the newest installment Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. Both games were captured on PC at max graphics settings. If this video gets enough attention we'll make another video trying to find more details which make Sunbreak stand out. Although their differences, both are great games and worth checking out.

A really cool thing that they missed was the fact that certain monsters don't attack you on sight. For example, Teostra doesn't see you as a threat or food so if you walk past it in iceborne it will never attack you. And if you shoot a stone at it from far away it will fly to you and basically just look at you like "don't do it again or else" but it still won't aggro. Meanwhile in sunbreak teostra will just straight up attack you on sight.

I walked along side a Tobi kodachi to its nest and it fell asleep in it. Wasn’t bothered by me at all. I just chilled in its nest with it and felt so relaxed. It didn’t attack me or aggro when it woke up either and I let it walk away. This was in mh world. In mh rise I discovered an anjanath sitting on the sand on the beach just vibing and looking at the oceon. I was taking pics of it with my camera and then those stupid lil crab monsters decided to attack it for no reason. The anjanath killed them and then spotted me and threw a big rock at me. Would of been cool to sit with the anjanath and look at the ocean together

It's called Monster HUNTER. I want to feel like a hunter. World did an excellent job with that and while I like some of the combat changes made in Rise, it feels more like I'm playing Monster FIGHTER.
The way monsters just kinda meandered around the map in World was fantastic and natural feeling. There's been several times in Rise where I set myself up for a crafty ambush on the monster and the AI just goes "OK I'M LEAVING THIS ZONE K THANKS BYE" and it just does a 180 and sprints across the map to another zone. Where it just sits there until it decides to do it again. Missing a fully charged Hammer plunge attack because the AI isn't implemented as well as it should be feels bad.

I think both do well for what they are meant for, MHW was a massive undertaking, pushing the environment, interactions, and world building to its limit. And obviously, was massively succesful.
MHR was premiered with the switch, obviously that's going to have its drawbacks. So while the environment, interactions, and world building aren't up to par with MHW, they still did an amazing job adding new mechanics and keeping the same MH feel with the game.
I personally enjoy both and think that both are great, however I would like the next MH title to push past what even world did. UE5, an actually good story, and pushing the environment system/ai to its new limits.

    2 underrated details in World that I absolutely adore;
-Elder Dragons physically change the appearance of the locales they appear in. When Kushala Daora is at the Ancient Forest, there's a storm brewing. When Teostra is at Sandy Plains you can physically see the heatwaves in the air. When Kirin is at Coral Highlands, lightning is striking all over the sky. There could also only be up to a max of 1 other monster in the locale at the same time to sell the power and influence Elders have wherever they go.
-When you capture a monster you can go back and see it physically restrained in a pen at Astera/Seliana and even get some unique lines of dialogue about them from the researcher nearby.
Neither of these things are true in Rise. I like Rise a lot, I think it's great, but I love World and all its little details so much more.

It felt like a real living breathing world with all the details it had to provide. Rise has a lot of new and interesting mechanics sure. But after playing World and really take in all that it has to offer alongside Iceborne, Rise just fell short of something. If I had to say what it was I'd say that it's missing life? Idk. I agree. My friends really liked Rise, but I always felt it was missing something. They told me to wait for Sunbreak since World had Iceborne, and that would fill the gap. Beat Sunbreak, had an amazing time, but still felt like something was missing. Finally recently went back to World solo. Did a simple hunt, and after dropping a boulder on a zinogre, taking the fulgur bugs so it wouldn't have its charge anymore, I realized what it was. It was that sense of HUNTING a MONSTER. Rise felt too easy. I never HAD to use traps. I still did, sometimes. But I spent my downtime on the dog chasing the monster whenever it ran. In World, I spent my downtime gathering supplies, refreshing equipment, checking the area, setting traps, checking the map to see if another monster might drop in or be close enough to lure to it, etc. It really made me feel like I was a normal* human hunting something dangerous. Rise, I was the only dangerous thing there, so I never had to try except for certain event style quests. There was little more than hit it till it dies. I was doing the same thing, every single hunt.

The way you have to track in World is actually pretty genius.
Not only does it make finding monsters more engaging, it also keeps the map more mysterious, e.g. by make invading monsters an actual surprise.
But most importantly, it actually makes you interact with the vivid enviroment much more. While looking for scratch marks etc, you are also paying attention to the detailed environment.
Just exploring every nook and cranny the first time for each new map was actually a ton of fun.
Flying around with wirebugs is enjoyable in it's own right, but doing so is the antithesis of slowly taking in the environment. I wouldn't want wirebugs in World, at least not not the first complete playthrough.

While the graphical fidelity was the best in the series bar none, the new additions to the roster left much to be desired. Clutch claw was a mistake, the tempered monsters were just spongy versions of their original character models, and Iceborne didn't feel like the giga expansion that all of its predecessors had. Plus, all the new options that MHW brought were hit or miss.
The clutch claw and its evolution, the wirebug, I think were a mistake. They're giving the player too many broken tools when the original concept of the series is "hunt the giant monster". It's devolving into weeb bait and I don't care for it too much.

A big part of why MHW is so great (for me) is just how alive and immersive it feels to play. Chances are i didn't notice 90% of the stuff that makes the game "alive". But just having those small things in the background adds up to being such a wonderful experience where you are actually experiencing what "monster hunting" is like. Even the part that many people hate, the tracking. it just makes the experience so much more engaging as you are expected to engage with the environment, and actually finding the monster rather than having an objective marker. (It does get annoying at times when you run around the whole map for like 20 mins and can't find a single mark). But for the most part, it has the right balance between realism of finding/hunting monsters, and game-ism? to prevent tediousness(where you have the scout flies highlighting marks so you aren't looking for 1 teensy scratch mark in the whole map)

It made learning all of the areas very rewarding. Like all things world had room for improvement, but they took the lives of the monsters we hunt and gave them substance, they gave us incredibly unique and diverse climates to explore each with their own challenges to overcome and prepare for. I'll never forget my first time time seeing Anjanath sunbathing with its sails up, out on its little ledge overlooking the sea.
Your first interaction with it is a hulking behemoth of a monster, which it is, throwing around Great Jagras like a ragdoll. It's your first true brick wall for most World players too.

I agree for the most part. I liked some mechanics from Rise too, like being able to take pics of everything and put it in the Hunter's Notes. I don't remember if World had that, but if it did, i never did it. You could also hang pics in your room in Rise. And Rise introduced some new endemic life that helps you fight the monsters in different offensive or defensive ways.
I would say the graphics, environment, and the level of detail is what's best about World. Everything else is better in Rise, including the wirebug mechanic, i much preferred it over the clutch claw. Not so much the wyvern riding, but i grew to like that feature too. I would prefer the combination of these 2 games to not have that specifically, and to just stick with World's land on the boss' back to do a take down. And Rise's wire bug skills/movement abilities over Clutch Claw. Basically best case scenario would be a combination of wirebug and clutchclaw, but adding only the best parts of both, and removing the bad things.

Hunting horn was the biggest gripe for me, I ain't complaining, love the buffs, I just don't love the way it feels, now there is no real risk/reward to using the weapon anymore, it's very overpowered yes, but it just... It don't feel right...
Hunting horn had many buffs to make up for it's one big risk...
Which is playing the songs, which keeps you stuck basically still, (with some wiggle room), when played, your songs would become these big shockwave esce attacks, which felt powerful and addictive, the drawback being, the horn is most effectively used on the face, cus it's a bonking weapon of course, so that's dangerous, the face is the riskiest zone to be attacking, more often than not.
Pulling off a song and then managing to pull of an encore felt great! Getting stunned not so much... By hey, that's the cost of getting cocky and not paying attention.
I swear most hunting horn users I meet, (who ain't corner horners) have the biggest balls of steel, (and often get clapped because of it 😅)
I mean, running straight to the face of a monster preparing to fry your ass, hoping to stun it with your next song/attack is pretty ballsy. (Something I've cough-cough absolutely never cough-cough done before)
Another minor danger is, not remembering your songs, pausing to look at songs too often, hyper focusing on your next song, and losing attention on your surroundings, it's not a weapon for folk who struggle to multi-task, it's a difficult weapon grab the reins of and thus is not often recommended to newbies.
But it has so many great things about it, not just the songs and buffs, the fact that it can't be deflected and has the highest movement speed naturally (every horn has this song) it also is one of the few weapons to possess high exhaust damage, not only that, some the highest exhaust damage out of all weapons.
(Exhaust being that mechanic that makes monsters stand there huffing and puffing for about 20-30 seconds or so, so you can wail on em). Which makes it in fact quite friendly even for solo use. (Yes it's not just a weapon to be used when in parties).
      But in rise... I dunno...
I'm not quite a fan of the lack oomph it has.
I mean, for starters, there are way less songs per horn, which means some horns are way, way crapper than others.
Not all horns were created equal I see...
The unique songs added in iceborne are gone, (really missing that speed boosting song and so are all my dual blade friends who enjoyed receiving it and just going nuts)
      And the songs themselves...
More appropriately the way it's done...
      Not a fan...
Just spam a note twice, song plays.
Before you had a unique note sequence for every song, then you had to play it, which was risky but gave massive benefits once pulled off. (Plus it felt sick as hell and I loved the boom it made, felt powerful)
Man I'm just really missing the way iceborne did the horn. It was the perfect buff for me personally, I love using encores and playing the songs as my main form of attack, it does so much damage and it feels great. It's like hammer on steroids, with a longer neck, plus it BOOMS. So fun.
Don't get me wrong I still love Rise tho, very happy to see more people using and appreciating the horn, I just love it for different reasons.
They are different experiences (but yes won't lie I think I definitely preferred the iceborne experience, in terms of the newer style gen games that is)

@@saceurai6629 oh yea the hitlag, everything certainly does feel slower in iceborne won't lie, rise is very gotta-go-fast, I appreciate it when farming, but it almost feels... Too fast sometimes, like I get suprised at how the longest I seem to take on hunts is around about 5-10 minutes, when in iceborne it's usually 10-15 minutes is my faster hunts (and this is playing casually of course, if I really tried I probably could end a hunt super fast it's just effort 😅)
Totally agree about the oomph and heavy weapons feeling absolutely nuts.
(The timing is based around how long I take in g-rank. Low/high rank obviously won't take long for the express reason that health pools are much smaller)

I prefer Rise a lot more. MHWorld thick environments full of stuff were unnecessary for me, I just want to hunt. It's why arena quests are some of my favorites. The clean landscapes and wide open areas in MHR are much more enjoyable to traverse and fight in imo. Rise was the perfect game for me much like how I would love a MHGU remake or to have that game with updated graphics but keeping the clean, mostly empty environment

It be fair to rise, it was developed for the switch and by the studio responsible for mobile releases. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison for the two games. I just got into MH recently and I decided to play world over rise because it appealed to me more. The immersion and world building with the way that different elements interact with one another keeps on surprising me as I continue to play the game. I can’t wait to see what they cook up for the next mainline MH game.

That already puts a lot of limitation on details so that rise could run without killing the switch and also took away a chunk of dev time. To make matters worse they were faced with covid which restricted even more of what they can do, hence why they were forced to make allmother into a TU. I honestly prefer the tone and vibe of Iceborne over Sunbreak. I enjoy some (not all) of the combat changes in Rise/Sunbreak, but a lot of the little things I liked in old MH game, let alone the small details in Iceborne, just aren't there in Rise.
One such example is invaders. In Rise invaders do not matter, they exist purely for free damage, and after giving you that free damage they just leave. In the older games and Iceborne the only way to get them to leave was huck dung bombs at them, which didn't always force the monster to leave instantly and they'd sometimes still get a couple attacks in.

a thing i always did in this situations is hit the mosnter your fighting with the dungbomb and not the invader mosnter
the dung bomb adds a huge load to the i think called scare/fear system what makes a monster in the end leave an area
but cause in most cases the invader is way stronger then the monster your fighting
its more likely the mosnter you fight will get scared and move on then the other way around
