    Iforce:
    Your presentation, humor, conciseness, and tips were both spot on, and delightfully entertaining!
    Looks pretty darn cold in your FPV demo! Great focus, and exposure. Liked your text overlay commentary too.
    I'm hoping you will do a video when you figure out how to make a "cheap-ass" head gear or other fine tuning for watching your video on that monitor more conveniently.
    Great technical considerations, suggestions, and the most organized wiring on your quad I have seen!
    I'm now a fan of yours. Keep 'em coming!

    That's awesome! You may appreciate my balsa quad. Just a 1/8" x 2" x 4.5"balsa sheet with two carbon fiber arms at each end holding 7mm brushed motor mounts for the Hobbyking Pocket Quad, flying the Nano QX flight controller, and motors I took out of a used 1SQ frame. The icing on the cake is the arms are glued and Duck taped on and have never broken.

    Thanks for your video. It's really helpful. One think I didn't quite understand is how do you power up the video audio transmitter and the camera on the quadcopter. Also what lipo did you use for the video receiver and screen monitor ( 2s? )? Did you do modification on one of the wires of the Rx receiver to connect the battery?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      angelos christou In this case the video tx was connected to the pins of the battery alarm, so it will be powered up when I connect the battery balance plug to the alarm (see 17:08). I use either a 2S or 3S lipo for the screen and receiver (see 10:40). Yes, I made a splitter connection to make one jst plug go into 2 jst plugs (you can see at 11:38)

    How can I get the Hero session 4 video feed from the quad copter to mission planner hud ? Is there such a thing as a wifi transmitter I can setup on the drone that will connect to the camera and send the feed to a receiver I can install to the pc , and get the signal to the mission planner hud ? Anyone know ? I need part numbers ! Or do I have to install an separate FPV system , and just turn the go pro on record when I take off ?

      Have you noticed this 800x480 LCD for $30 from BangGood?
      www.banggood.com/Blue-Sky-5-Inch-HD-Digital-Panel-Display-800x480-Snowflakes-Screen-p-970382.html
      Cheapest I have seen with this resolution. If you mounted 2 of them sideways on a plywood viewing box securely mounted on a tripod and connected them to two Boscam RX5808 receivers:
      www.banggood.com/FPV-5_8G-Wireless-Audio-Video-Receiving-Module-RX5808-p-84775.html
      would you then have a live video side by side 3D VR viewing system?
      You could use the balsa quad you already started ready for a binocular camera as an image source.
      I would suggest two of these FX758 transmitters tuned to different channels as the transmission system capable of running on 3.7v.
      To me this all seems very doable. The challenge would be to stich or synch the two video signals together to a single 3D VR feed for side by side 3D viewing afterward with a smaller, more comfortable 3D viewer/cell phone combo like this:
      www.banggood.com/Universal-3D-VR-Video-Glasses-Virtual-Reality-Free-Controller-For-iPhone-6S-Plus-6Plus-Samsung-HTC-Smartphone-p-1000219.html
      Does this stimulate your Cheap Ass creative juices? I would like to see you do it. You have much more talent than I for this kind of thing.
      Send me your email address if you want to discuss further (James.C.Eastep@gmail.com)
      Jim

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James C Eastep it's not quite as simple as just having two video feeds. Just look at how long the oculus rift has been in development without an official release. Getting a nice result requires having the screens at the right distance and angle, so that ideally the field of view of each eye will overlap the other by a large amount, which requires some carefully made lenses to bend the light correctly. I would think the whole thing needs to be attached to your head too, so screens that large would be a problem. Overall it seems to me the kind of thing that a cheapass attempt would never really do very well. If I had lots of money I would try it by modifying a fatshark style goggle set to show different views to each eye, and see how that goes for a start.

    I have one of those 10mw modules kicking about which has sat doing nothing for about 3 years but now I'm looking to try and build an ultralight setup and hopefully get a micro heli airborne with fpv for giggles while our UK winter prohibits my fixed wing flying.
    I'll use 30awg wires for everything from power to the camera connection and I'm gonna solder a diy coax dipole directly to the pads for minimum weight but is there any reason why the shielding box can't be removed as well for further weight loss? Ultralight fpv transmitters like the eachine vtx01/02/03 have no shielding but weigh more than one of these!

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The shielding helps reduce interference, it can be removed for a small signal quality loss. Unless you are going far away I'm not sure it would matter.

    • @stevefox3763
      @stevefox3763 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iforce2d no, not going far, 30m at the very most.
      ill remove the shielding and see how it behaves, its got to weigh a fair chunk of the modules overall weight and can bring it down a significant amount if i remove it.
      ive made a ultra light coax dipole for it that ive soldered directly to the module, i need the absolute minimum weight possible for this setup but range is not an issue

    hi, me again :D, question you recommend Dal 700tvl camera (SKU183213), but it's a 12V camera, it's still compatible with the 5.8ghz transmitter Tx5823 ??
    Did tou buy this camera, and if so, can you manage to do some stuff over I2C (like brightness control, or other stuff) i can't found a datasheet for this one?
    i hope my question aren't too stupid and annoy you, thanks from France

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'm using the DAL 700TVL camera, but with SKU072090 for the transmitter. It's much easier to set up than TX5823 because the camera just plugs straight in and you get an antenna etc included. It also has an onboard microphone and dip switches to change the channel, and only costs a few dollars more than TX5823. I have not found any good resources about I2C for the DAL camera... well, somebody gave me a link in the banggood forums but I have not checked it out yet.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Palkesh Agrawal you can use an analog video recorder, often called a DVR, to record the signal on the ground from the receiver. Photos... I guess you can pause the DVR video and look at it :)

    • @palkeshagrawal2703
      @palkeshagrawal2703 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +iforce2d Thank you very much. I think it will work for me, but i am thinking that can't we link the video recording and photo capturing option on our remote control. So, that we can turn on/off recording and can capture photos via turning on/off any two switches on our remote control.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Palkesh Agrawal well there would be no photo capturing 'option'.... just record the video the whole time. If you want to turn the DVR off and on, it will be sitting beside you on the ground, no need for any remote control. But typically, if you want decent video you would have a second camera (HD camera) on the quad to record, that's what everybody does.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that the 200mW like I have in this video (tiny box module)? How are you finding it? After this video I set mine up with a much better arrangement using the protoboard like I showed, I even used 470uf caps as suggested in the instructions, but I had a lot of trouble with it and ended up not using it - it never seemed to last more than a couple of minutes and would just suddenly turn off even when just sitting there on the desk, and it was not hot at all, just barely a little warm. I ended up getting one of these, which at the moment is only $6 more and comes all set up with heat-sink and better support circuitry, switches to change channels, an antenna and a microphone, and no need for soldering: www.banggood.com/Boscam-FPV-5_8G-200mW-AV-Wireless-Transmitter-TS351-p-73198.html This works really nice and I actually got another one before the price goes back up :)

      Yes the 200mW looks exactly the same, $10 at banggood. I bought the RC732-DVR which is a monitor with built in receiver (nothing but problems I would advise not to get this one). The camera is something I bought on ebay for $8.00. I use a 1 s 3.7v battery from my Blade Nano QX. Finally had a chance to fly it yesterday and it worked. I was only about 100 feet away but still had good video.

    The camera you used is a 5-12v camera but the output of the board is only around 3v. So you can use a 5-12v camera on a setup like this?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would depend on the camera I guess. This particular camera runs fine on a 1S lipo as I'm doing in the video, and recently I'm running it from the main battery with a 3.3v regulator (tinyurl.com/kfj38y4) and it works well with that too. You might not be so lucky with other cameras that are rated 5-12v, if they really do need that higher voltage. It may also depend on the type of TX you're using too - obviously a camera running on 3.3v cannot generate signal level any higher than that, so the TX would have to be able to use the 3.3v signal.

    the price of fpv continues to drop almost daily. Hobby King just released a set of goggles that prwtty much anyone can afford. couple that with cheap receivers and camara's and you can be flying fpv. I have been putting it off myself because I just dont care about it,but I think so others can ride along while I fly,that would be the only reason I would invest.

    ***** .. Quick Q for you. Would you have any clue as to how (when i do eventually get to that stage) i'd be able to have this display on an android tablet? I have a great tablet with an extra long life span, a very bright display and think it would serve well for this purpose. Just wouldn't know where to begin

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stefan Bachrodt Short answer is you won't have it on android tablet. This is analog video and there is not much to be gained from converting it to digital. The image quality will not get any better and it will probably introduce more delay, and use more power in the process. In the long run you'll have a much better experience viewing through some kind of goggles than a monitor like I've use here.

      Thanks for the speedy response on that, it's rather unfortunate as my reason for stumbling across your videos is entirely due to the words, "cheap-ass" in your title! =D
      I've seen what these goggles go for and considering its materials, manufacturing and design, it's still far to expensive. Esspesially since only one person can see what's going on. It's not in my nature to be ripped off, what you're paying for with those goggles is basically just the lens assembly and a tiny LCD screen. The plastic housing, switches and 3 circuit boards are barely worth $60 if we were to order parts ourselves. Can you imagine how cheap FatShark or SkyZone must be getting them for? No no, DIY it is for me haha. Besides. Do those goggles even have a "Video out" option for me to connect to a VGA monitor / mini pocket projector / projector with separate power source?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stefan Bachrodt That's true, I don't think I will ever buy any fatshark type goggles. I have been using the $25 Quanum 'goggles' which are not too bad, and they have just released a version2 ($55 from HobbyKing) which has a bunch of improvements and many people say they prefer them to fatshark. Hi,
    I really like your all video about the "cheapass quadcopter", but i have 2 question :
    - Possibilitty to use a smartphone to display the fpv ? i think so but i don't found really nice tuto.
    - Add some osd on the video directly with the arduino, i found that : www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1473207 but i want your opignion.
    Thanks for all !

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The display and video transmission signals used here are all analog, and it's fast because there is no heavy OS in the way. To display video on a smartphone would require analog to digital conversion and would be slower. I'm not saying you couldn't do it, but I don't think it would give much advantage. These screens are so cheap, the cost you would save by using your phone is not much anyway. That rcgroups thread is pretty old. You can now buy many purpose built modules for OSD that will do that, and many flight controllers have an output pin for that purpose.

      If you have the video already compressed it would be no problem, but for FPV you don't. Let us know what hardware you would use for ADC and to compress video on the fly, and how much power it uses and how much it weighs :) My desktop PC has a quad-core 3.4GHz CPU and it uses about 6% of that to compress a 640x480 video that is already digital. Maybe you could use a video capture card somehow, or maybe the compressed stream from a GoPro etc, but I don't think it gives much advantage to just using a regular FPV transmitter which is cheap and has less lag.

    This might have been said already,but without reading through all the comments I'll say it anyway.

      YellowBlue RC yeah I like them well enough, but the strap is pretty crappy. I also noticed there is quite a difference in picture between what I see in the goggles, and what I see in the video recorded by the DVR when I watch it afterwards. In the goggles, there is a lot more white-out saturation to the point where I can't see well, even when the DVR has recorded a pretty nice picture. Unfortunately the brightness and contrast adjustments of the screen don't seem to do shit... maybe the screen is faulty. That new version of the quanum looks really nice, I will probably get that sooner or later.

      ***** yeah i have the v1`s too and i quite like it but like you said i have the same problems but what do you expect from a $45 screen and stuff.
      but even with all these issues i would still recommend it as I don't like lose screens and other goggles are way too expensive.
      I will get the v2`s too someday..

      I think most 5.8g transmitters and receivers are compatible, but not all. That goggles is what I'm using now actually :)
