6 years later would you still plant 3 plants per 3.5 gal pot or would you recommend they have more space?

Thank you for saying they don't need 2' of grow space! I love container gardening, because that's my only option on a balcony. Great video. Thanks! Keep up the awesome work!

You left out an extermely important part of your presentation about a container: Put holes in the container as this will serve as the drainage for the plant. You can put the holes on the bottom portion or on the sides. It’s best if the container is 10 inches deep as this will be large enough to accommodate the broccoli plant’s root growth.

it would be really great if you would do a follow up video and show us what to expect. you could update this video by merging the two together or just put in a follow up link. you give wonderful "how to" vids but showing us the result would be even more beneficial as we can know what will happen if we follow your advise before we waste a season to find it doesn't work.

Love it. I've grown in containers compact spacing like you're showing for a while now and I do get that screaming plant syndrome every time. Had 4 cabbages in a 12" diameter 5 gallon container recently. They push away from each other over the edges. I've noticed they don't grow as big though. No more 4 cabbages in 1 container any longer, but love the square foot idea in containers. Great job as always Luke.

Hi Luke! I’ll be growing broccoli for the first time this year! I started it indoors already, but I didn’t realize it would germinate so quickly. It’s still small, but it’s growing under my grow lights. We won’t have our last frost until late February or early March. I’ll have to check to be sure, but I’ll harden them off and plant them outside in containers, three plants per container.
I’ve been watching your videos for many years now.
Thank you so much for sharing your gardening journey!

I LOVE broccoli and finally started some veggies this year. I have a yard but the best sun & level place is my deck. I made a planter out of a pallet for tomatoes & will add more. Out of my broccoli sprouts, 1 survived, it's a little late to plant & this is my learning curve year so I'm eager to learn how to help my little guy thrive & do better next year. Thanks! (I'm in Michigan). Also its trained a ton this week and it's been saturated so already getting useful info! Excited to finish the vid

I am growing everything in pots. I have very limited sun in my small backyard. So containers, hopefully will work for me. Have only grown tomatoes and that was years ago. Growing them now in containers and what to do broccoli and cauliflower too. Thanks for doing all your videos. You have helped me tremendously. Ordering the trifecta from you now. Ordered some seeds from you already but you were out of most of what I wanted. I waited too long to order. Playing this by ear this year. Hopefully next year I will do more planning ahead for spring veggies.

Thank you so much MI.... A friend gave me some broccoli seedlings ... I didn't want them ... way too ADVANCED GARDENING for me. I'd given her some tomato seedlings, so I felt obligated to take the broccoli. Thank you so much for container sizes. It's so hard to find such information. I put three plants per 3.5gal container (nursery sizing 5gal) they are doing BEAUTIFULLY. Taste great and more sshoots on the way. I'm thinking that the variety is Waltham .... heirloom. My only trouble is that they HATE full sun and begin to wilt in 5 minutes and I feel too sorry for them to suffer, so I move the contianers into the shade every time. Great muscle building for small .... persons. Gardening takes a LOT of TIME. No time for ANYTHING ELSE. Thanks for all videos.

A few things I wish you included in your growing guides:
    1. When to start the plant: either indoors as a seedling or by direct seed sowing and then when to plant outside as a seedling (X number of weeks before or after first or last frost in our area).
    2. What are the most common issues that this plant can have (early on and all the way up to harvest) and either how to identify those problems early and how to address them or further resources for this information.
    3. A screenshot of basic facts like: typical days to maturity of the average variety, sun preferences, soil preferences, watering preferences, hardiness, ideal season to grow in (spring, summer, fall, winter).

This was probably your worst video, a lot of misinformation here. The closer you plant broccoli together the smaller the heads get. If you grow 3 broccoli florets in that small of a pot you wont get a head, and if you do it will be the size of a quarter. I'm not surprised you didn't show an update on these broccoli to prove you can get heads from it.

I live in south Texas and so what I found to help with the watering issue is to much especially with straw and for the soil that I use for my containers was Peat Moss, that was sourced from Canada where they have an endless supply because they actually produce more peat Moss a year than they harvest, then compost then my native soil which is Sandy Clay and I mix it until the drainage is it under 2 to 3 minutes and then I mulch 2-3 inches with straw or some aspen pet bedding any soil stays moist so far for couple of weeks that I rarely have to water

I'm not having such great luck growing broccoli in containers yet, it's my first season. To be honest I had a sprouting mix that I planted for microgreens and it got overgrown and the broccoli was part of the mix so I'm not sure what kind of broccoli it is. I pulled everything else out perhaps they're still growing too close together. I live in Los Angeles so I think I'll have to wait again until the fall.
I'm getting lots of leaves and not many flowers or heads at all. I'm thinking of just dehydrating the leaves like kale chips and starting it over with your excellent guidance.. and maybe better seeds. Thank you.

Three 15" inch pots one with 3 broccoli another pot with 2 broccoli and the last pot with one broccoli.
The pot with 1 gave me by far the biggest harvest.
The pot with 3 gave me the smallest harvest.

One of mine immediately bolted in the heat. The other five didn’t take. Had to get starts. Once I have a grow light, timing might be easier rather than direct sowing.

Do you suggest fertilizing every month using Trifecta+ as well?

Does the two feet spacing still apply to the zuccini and cucumbers? Thanks!

My babies I bought look like they're dying a little. The stalks are healthy looking but the leaves are turning white and kind of wilty. I also feel like the base of the plant keeps becoming uncovered, but I don't know how (wind maybe? I don't think I packed down the soil a lot). Do you think it's not getting enough sun? I planted them early for my area (zone 5) and it's had a huge mix of 40-75 degrees too. I bring it inside sometimes because it gets to like 34 at night still here. =/

Do you suppose it will grow in a tropical climate, like in India? Would I need to put the pot in shade, given that it's very bright and very hot out here??

I would think that one larger plant would produce a greater harvest than 3 smaller plants would so it's not exactly a waste of a sq ft. I guess with the smaller plants you have backups if you lose one or two of the others, that's one advantage to this method I can see. I'm considering growing some broccoli in containers to save space in my garden so thanks for the video.
